A Shocking Discovery [Open PMT]

Northern Cydonia, Slovanian Penninsular

A Scientist scrabbled in the ground with a small trowel, the area cordoned off with yellow tape, around him were other scientists, archeologists and various experts on excavation sites...

"How are we progressing Doctor?"

"It's going slow, the tundra isn't making it easy.." The Doctor looked up from the section of soil he was scratting at...

"Yes, I gathered, but its something were going to have to live with..." The project leader shrugged his shoulders dismissively..

the Doctor returned to his work, the air was still, normaly this time of year brought around heavy snowfall, but thankfully there was a repreave from the generaly harsh conditions...

The Sky above was clear, the sun was hung low in the sky, moving from sun rise to sun set, while what little clouds there were floated gently across the clear blue sky...

For Slovania, this was a beautiful day...

People continued to work, digging away in their various pits, as large excavators worked to shift vast bucket fulls of muck, while their powerfull power plants strained under the effort to crack the hard tundra...

The project leader returned to his tent, and sat down gently into his seat, picking up a telephone he dialed the number of the Government...

"Dr Richardson here, from the Cydonian Project... can I speak to Foreign Minister Gredenko please?"

"One moment"

"Alright"

"Hello?" Gredenko spoke with a heavy Russian accent, he'd moved here a few months after the fall of Kraven to assist in the reconstruction, from their he fell in love with the Country and has lived here ever since...

"Gredenko? It's Richardson... "

"Oh, Hello Doctor, how is the Project coming along?"

"We haven't found anything yet... I'm starting to belive it never existed..."

"Keep Looking Doctor... its there..."

"What have we found so far?" The Project Leader spoke looking down at a doctor who lay, kneeling in a small pit, his hair looked dry, and covered in dust..

"Nothing so far... just these Fragments of metal.."

"let me have a look?" The Project Leader spoke, as the one in the pit started to climb out, in his hands some fragments of metal, handing them to the Project leader, the doctor stood with his arms on his sides, while at the same time taking a deep breath...

"Hmmm, What do you think they are from?" The project leader spoke, while thumbing the shards

"I'm not sure, it could be from anything... " the Doctor spoke, while shaking his head, then continuing to speak "What are we looking for anyway"

"I'm not sure myself... I doubt wether or not it actualy exists..."

"What?" The Doctor was confused and starting to get a little irritated at the lack of information...

"Well... During the Reign of Kraven Tyranny, this entire area was used for something, Documents point towards activity here... but as to what... its very vague.. we are simply looking for evidence..."

"Oh...." The Doctor simply replied, his face draining white...

"keep digging, I'll have the Fragments examined by our Research Team, maybe they can tell us what happened here so many years ago...."

The other Doctor climbed back into his pit, still white and shaking a little... he daren't dream about what he might find as he dug further....

"What did the Fragments uncover?" asked the Project leader, while stood over some Doctor looking through a high powered microscope..

"Well, So far.. they were chipped from something..." The Doctor spoke, while pulling away from the lenses and rubbing his eyes..

"How do you mean?"

"Well, the pattern of the fragment suggests that what ever this was part of was struck against something, but then again that could be anything, from a sword to a tool of some kind..." The Doctor spoke, while returning to the scope, then pulling back to rub his eyes once more and adjust the focus..

"A Pickaxe Perhaps? It is possible that we may have found the site then?" The Project leader mused, while rubbing his chin.. there was a gentle glow cast down through the white tent as the sun rose higher into the sky...

"The site of what Sir?"

"hmmm, I'm still not sure, This doesn't prove it existed, but we are still nearer... continue your study, see if you can bring up anything else on those fragments... Mineral deposits.. anything.."

"All Right, I'll see what I can come up with..."

"Good Good..."

Doctor Smith, Dig Site Report

We have been into the Dig for a Week now, and so far the only evidence that there has been any activity in the tundra are small fragments of metal, now it is believed that these could come from a Tool or a Sword which may just possibly indicate that what was belived to be here, was in fact here.

But no substantial evidence has yet come to light, that solidifies the description in your texts that were uncovered in the Eastern catacombs, our dig continues, but I fear it may be a fruitless endeavour.

... In Slovania, an Archeological Dig has been underway for a week now, in an attempt to solve some unanswered questions at the end of Kraven Tyranny, so far clues to as what they are looking for have been sketchy at most, and at best confusing, However Doctor Smith, the Project leader has stated that any Scientist wishing to help can contact him through the usual channels, or through the Slovanian Foreign Ministry....

Assuming it wasn't lost in a Helfaer sorting office somewhere, impounded by customs, mishandled and misplaced by Slovanian post office workers, or swallowed up by a bureaucratic sinkhole at the foreign ministry, the following letter would soon find itself in the hands of Doctor Smith.

Dear Dr Smith,

I am writing to you on the subject of the archaelogical dig currently taking place in Northern Cydonia. Although it has apparently started without me, if possible I would like to become involved in this project from here on in. With Slovania now a safe area after the defeat of the Kraven Corporation, a host of new archaeological opportunites have been opened up which I would hate to miss.

If you have need of my credentials, here they are. I achieved a doctorate in ancient history from the University of Shamet in 1983. Since then, I have undertaken several projects across Helfaer and written three books about early civilisation as well as several articles for magazines including the International Science Journal, the most recent being a study of a suspected prehistoric settlement in the Spine of Leviathan mountain range.

If possible, I would also like to bring my assistant, a recent graduate from my old alma mater who I have agreed to take on. She and I would arrive by aircraft and then proceed to the dig site by utility vehicle.

I look forward to your reply.

Sincerely,

Korin Shalmalexaris

Dr. Smith-

Would you be interested if the Ministry of Foreign Affairs donated a large sum of money for future discovery on your site? While we are not as talented in the arts of digging one's dead graves, the potential is of new things we have not known in the present. The large sum of money would be present in the form of digging equipment and water purification - namely from the sky if you are in a desert climate. Please respond if interested in only the money or the equipment,

Dear Doctor Shalmalexaris

I am quite Impressed by your dossier, and look forward to having you onboard our dig, I'm currently organising your entry into the country, and can safely say that your transfer from the air port to the dig site will be as speedy as possible, as to further the delay, again I thank you for your interest, and look forward to being able to talk more about the Dig in person.

Dear, President Noea

It is such an Honour to receive a telegram from someone of stature such as yourself, I did not expect the interest in the dig to run so far, however our project is funded by the government of Slovania to uncover some mislead truths about what went on in Northern Cydonia during Kraven Occupation, and to that extent we would prefer man power and scientists to speed up the dig, also extra equipment and tents would be a god send, again I give you my personal thanks for the interest you have in our Dig and look forward to meeting either you, or your Scientists personaly.

[ooc: If you want me to go back and meet your people at the airport, I can redo this. I just hate long sections of travel before getting to the meat of the RP.]

The flight had been uneventful, although the in-flight movie had kept both Shalmalexaris and his assistant amused for an hour and a half. Of course, that was an hour and a half out of over four, and riding in the first-class compartment hadn't made it much more comfortable when they hit heavy turbulence over the ocean. Because of this they were grateful to be out of the aeroplane and into the fresh air, at least for a while, and now they rode towards the dig site with the windows open. Although they had been told that the weather was generally snowy at this time of year, they had apparently arrived on an uncharacteristically nice day. The sun shone warmly, although not with the scorching desert heat of the Helfaer summer, and the sky was blue and only lightly dusted with cloud.

"Beautiful day, huh?"

The doctor had surprised his assistant, who sat in the passenger seat with headphones in and a CD playing. She took one headphone out to listen, although she had not heard the original statement.

"What are you listening to?"

The young woman shrugged.

"Some new band back home. I went to one of their gigs with a couple of old friends back home and they gave me a promo CD on the way out."

The doctor chuckled.

"Are they any good?"

"Not really. Actually, they suck."

They both laughed together, able to relax on their way to the dig. The doctor leaned his head out of the window, letting the wind ruffle his slightly greying hair.

"I actually used to be involved in some of that myself."

Seeing the woman's disbelief, he added,

"You probably can't see me doing that, can you? I actually used to play lead guitar in a metal band at university. We never got anywhere, but it was fun while it lasted. We were actually fairly popular for a while."

She raised her eyebrows at this, although her eyes showed belief. The doctor was not given to lying, he had often said that it showed a weakness of conviction.

"How far are we from the dig site?"

The doctor glanced at the GPS set on the dashboard.

"We're practically there. We should arrive in about ten minutes, assuming our Slovanian colleagues gave us the right directions."

Ten minutes later, the vehicle arrived at the site. Stepping out of the vehicle, the doctor walked straight up to the nearest scientist to introduce himself.

"Hi, I'm Korin Shalmalexaris, the archaeologist arriving from Helfaer, and this is my assistant Jaen Nator."

[OOC: No, thats fine, Very nice post, glad to have you here]

The Doctor rose up out of a small trench, his hands covered with dirt, wiping them on his overalls he held out a hand, and shook the hand of both of Helfaer's Scientists...

"Hello, I'm Doctor Jones, you'll be looking for Doctor Richardson, the Project leader, Follow me and I'll introduce you to him..." He spoke while squinting through dust encrusted glasses...

A few minutes walk, past various tents and trenches, they finaly reached a tent of similar size to the others, but was littered in possible artifacts and documents, scattered through out many tables that were stood outside...

"Doctor Richardson?" Jones spoke, while peering into the tent..

"Yes?" Richardson spoke, looking up from a Brown folder

"The Helfaer, Scientists are here..."

"Oh right" Richardson spoke, with a smile, before leaving the tent and walking up to the two Scientists, who no doubt were casting an interest over what little artifacts had been found..

"Hello, I'm Doctor Richardson" He spoke while offering his hand to both of the Scientists..

"Please take a seat" Richarson spoke while gesturing to some deck chairs positioned outside the tent...

"I'm Sure you have many questions and are eager to get started?"
Helfaer

After shaking Doctor Richardson's hand, and taking the offered seats after their long journey, the doctor had a lot of questions to ask. Although he had been eager to take part in the dig, he didn't really know much about what they were looking for. He had joined up more because of the new opportunites opened up by the fall of the Kraven Corportation than for any focused scientific reason, and also partly to give Jaen some needed experience. He had to give his assistant the ability to operate independently of him, and that had to involve going on digs.

"Yes, I'm certainly eager to get to work, and I'm sure my assistant is as well."

Jaen was looking slightly scared by the situation. Not only was this her first proper archaeological dig since graduating, it was the first time she had left Helfaer. She sat in her chair silently, staring around her.

"What are we actually searching for on this dig? I realise I should know this, but after reading about the dig I somewhat charged headlong into this. I read that its an attempt to solve some unanswered historical questions, but which questions are they?"
The Kraven Corporation

"Well.." The Doctor spoke, tenting his hands together...

"Our Details are a little Sketchy, but I'll fill you in on what details I know.."

The Doctor reached over and picked up a brown file off the desk, and handed it to Jaen, Inside was a photograph, in black and white of a facility, an immense Open Cast mine that looked like it stretched for hundereds of miles, various structures and chimneys, as well as cooling towers rose up from the multitude of buildings...

"That is what were looking for, The Evidence that, that facility existed... Documents recovered at the fall of Kraven indicate thousands of Atrocities that were carried out here, We're looking to prove that what happened here during Kraven, actually happened... "

The Doctor sighed, Helfaers Scientist and his assistant didn't know what truely went on in this location, but neither did Richardson...

"I'm Sure we'll find out what happened here, and why Kraven made it... Disappear.."
Helfaer
28-02-2006, 23:01
"So, a mission to discover the truth behind the Kraven administration. I suppose we owe it to those who died to discover more about this facility."

Jaen spoke for the first time in the conversation, making the doctor jump. In a hushed voice, with eyes downcast, she leaned forward so that her hair fell around her face and asked,

"What sort of atrocities do you believe were carried out here, Doctor Richardson?"
The Kraven Corporation
28-02-2006, 23:17
"Most of them are Rumours, But what I've heard from sources and sketchy Reports, was the 24 million Slaves, from various nations were held here and worked to death... I don't know wether or not this is true, hopefully we will uncover what happened.." The Doctor paused, sighing...

"We don't just owe it to those who died, We also owe it to those who died here... if at all they did..."

"We belive this man is responsible for whatever happened up here, but at the moment there has been no sign of him, it is belived he fled the country at the fall... his current location unknown..." the Doctor asked the young assitant, while picking up another file, a Dossier named... "Helghan" The Handing it to Korin..

"Tell me, Is this your first dig, Jaen?"

Jaen blushed. She had hoped that her inexperience hadn't been so obvious, but apparently her attempts to hide it had not been sucessful even around archaeologists who probably spent more time digging through dirt than actually talking to people.

"Well, its not really my first. I did a few digs in Helfaer while I was doing my degree, but this is my first since I graduated. I've been working under Doctor Shalmalexaris since then, but we've mostly been doing laboratory work."

Meanwhile, Korin thumbed through the file on Reichsmarshall Helghan, grimaing occasionally.

"Well, I'm sure you'll find this one Interesting, although possibly Shocking, I hope you at least have a strong stomach..."

"Shocking... Isn't it Doctor..."

"Amazing, How a human can inflict such atrocities on his fellow man..."

"Doctor Richardson!" Shouted a Scientist as he bounded across trenches towards the tent..

"We've Found something!" he shouted again, tripping over some tape, and struggleing to regain his footing...

"What.. what.. what.. is it?"

"We Don't know, Some sort of Black metal Plate..."

"Shall we... see what Hell has to offer us?" Richardson spoke while getting up out of his seat..

assuming the two Doctors followed, the group followed the estatic scientist..

a few minutes walk they reached a small pit, 6 feet in length and 5 feet wide, with a scientist, brushing away the dirt on a peice of Black Metal..

"What have you found?"

"I'm not sure Doctor... would you like to take a look, It seems to extend further out, but I didn't want to uncover more until you were here.."

"Yes.. let me have a look, Come with me Jaen, you can be part of this too.."

Once they were both in the trench, The Doctor began to push more soil away, the small black metal plate, revealed a small gap, then more Plate, he chipped away at the soil....

"Whats that?" he asked... Taking up a brush and sweeping away the dirt to reveal a serial Number..

"XAF 1113" He whispered...

"Dear God..." he spoke, suddenly, practicaly leaping out of the Pit, taking Jaen by the arm and dragging her out as fast as possible...

Richardsons face had gone a palid white and his hands were shaking, he struggled to keep his footing, before dropping to his knees before the pit...

Jaen screamed as the archaeologist dragged her clear of the pit, slipping on the removed soil. Her feet slid backwards and she fell, beginning to slide inexorably back into the pit. Still shocked at the scientist's reaction, she was too scared to fling out a hand to save herself, instead flailing at the air. Leaping forward, Korin grabbed her wrist and hauled her back out, pulling to her feet and holding her steady for a moment. She was still pale and shaking from the apparently random terror. All that she had seen in the pit was a black sheet of metal. There had been numbers printed on it, but in her sudden terror she had forgotten them.

Korin released the young woman, who was still shaken and wide-eyed from her ordeal, and strode purposefully towards Doctor Richardson. Lifting him bodily to his feet, he began to talk in a low but menacing voice, each word starkly clear.

"What are you playing at, terrifying my assistant like that? Don't you realise shes already nervous enough without you acting like a bloody fool and..."

He broke off from his tirade as he saw the look in Jaen's eyes mirrored in the man's, only more intense. His voice became softer, yet more urgent.

"What happened? What is it down there?"
The Kraven Corporation

"It's one of them..." He spoke, softly, holding his arm like he was wounded...

"I'm sorry, I had no Idea... "

he slowly began to regain is composition...

A team now entered the Pit, gingerly pulling away soil, until after several minutes, a Six Foot black figure had been uncovered, Dirty, Muddy, its front riddled in bullet holes...

The Team lifted the figure out of the ground, it was heavy and the team struggled, various men groaning under the strain, but sure enough, the body was laid on the side... Even in Death it was a frightening sight...

"heh... Its eyes normaly glow red..." The Doctor tried to laugh,

"I'm scared by old ghosts I suppose"

I'll most likely send someone later. Right now i'll RP as the Emperor seeing this on a nightly news broadcast he picked up from his Satelite TV.

IC:
Galen was flipping through the TV channels, looking for anything that would be interesting for him to watch. But the bad this is that the only crap he found was either Reality TV or stupid childrens shows. He just wished for one minute that he could watch some good old action movie on TV, without commercial interruptions. He then came across the block of 150 channels devoted to news stories from around the world. Mostly stories about some kid stuck in a well, or how the population in the world is booming. The same old shit that was on every day.

Then he came across an interesting story, not like the other shit that was on the TV these days. Interesting. Archeology digs in old Kraven. He then mutes the TV and pushes a button on the phone next to his couch. "Could you send in the Minister of Foreign Affairs?"

A voice came from the other end. "Yes, Sir. I'll get him in there as soon as possible."

---------------------------------------------------------

3 Minutes Later:
Galen: "Ah, Mr. Williams. Nice for you to join me."

Williams: "You wanted to see me, sir?"

Galen: "Yes. I wanted you to see this news story. Hold on a second though, i gotta find it on my TiVo."

It took a short time, but Galen found the story on the HD of his TiVo. He then played the story for Mr. Williams. Williams stood there and watch it, he was as interested in the story as Galen was when he first watched it. After it was done, Galen turned off the TV and looked at Larry.

Galen: "So, what do you think?"

Williams: "I think that all the Ministers should discuss this at our next meeting. I could schedual one for tomarrow if needed."

Galen: "Make it so. I would like to send a message to Slovania as soon as possible."

"Thats alright, Doctor Richardson. I'm alright now."

Jaen still sounded a little shaken, but she seemed to have recovered enough to join the group around the dead Kraven soldier. She stared down at its hulking armoured form, then at the bullet holes scattered across its front, perforating its armour and the flesh beneath. She blinked, swallowed, but remained in place.

"Well, I suppose that he is evidence that there was at least a small military presence here."

She turned the source of the voice, and saw Korin standing there. He showed no fear at the dead soldier, although he had not been in Slovania while it was under the thumb of the Kraven Corporation, and instead he showed interest. His eyes glittered as he saw what he also believed to be proof of the installation. However, he kept his fascination in check, instead turning back to Doctor Richardson.

"Well, this is one old ghost we don't need to worry about. Even so, I don't blame you. Their reputation alone scares me, and I never saw one in the flesh... until now. Anyway, I hope we can put our previous disagreement to rest. I apologise for my poor conduct, especially under these circumstances."

"It's Alright, Under these circumstances, we could have found anything.. hell It could have been a Sardaukar... Then! it would have been all different..." the Doctor spoke, shaking his head and throwing his hands up into the air...

"If it had still been functioning, it would have climbed out of the pit and killed us all!" The Doctor laughed nervously, his attempt to diffuse the situation further might have just failed...

"You may not have seen them Doctor, but I lived under their constant watch, that was why I was so afraid, I saw what they did, I saw how they worked.. I saw everything..." The Doctor was now staring at the Corpse, his eyes filled with utter contempt...

"They feel No Emotion, Doctor... They are bred specialy, in huge breeding factories, they cannot be bargined with, reasoned with, they will show no pity or remorse, they will not stop until their mission is complete or they... in this case... are dead... Some say they are the ultimate soldier... I think Automagfreek proved Kraven wrong..." he was still staring at the corpse...

"I don't want to see what Kraven comes up with next.."

People were dusting dirt off the corpses armour now, and others were taking photographs, a new reporter was franticaly retelling the discovery to a Camera crew... she was definatly hoping for an award for this news report...

"I once saw a Capitol Police trooper drag a young girl, maybe six years old, out into the street and shot her in cold blood... Why?... Her Parents were thought Criminals and resisted Arrest... The Madness of Kraven...."

Korin and Jaen had retreated from the gaze of the media: this was really Richardson and his team's discovery, and as it was such an important and tragic part of Slovania's history being discussed it would not do to wax emotional about a subject that he had never seen the full horror of. Richardson had: both of the Helfaer archaeologists had seen it in his eyes at the sight of the dead Kraven soldier. The sight had chilled him as well, even though the only time he had ever seen them was on news broadcasts of the war with the Freeks, so he knew that he could not even begin to fathom what Richardson was feeling.

They sat in a tent together, Jaen losing herself in her headphones, Korin leaning back to think. The flight had been tedious, but the dig had started explosively, drawing journalists to explore the aftermath.

"Jaen."

"Yes, Doctor?"

"I just want you to know that not every dig is like this. I had guessed that it would be something to do with the Kraven Corporation, and I was right. I never should have brought you, and I'm sorry."

She looked down at her feet, unsure of what Korin meant. Was she really that terrible company? Still, his tone of voice was kind, and he had always liked her, she knew that. He only meant to protect her.

"Thats alright," she said, looking up and smiling weakly.
"I'm sure that things will be better tomorrow, once Doctor Richardson gets over the shock and the reoorters leave."

IC:Vilachy Derabuns face was cold. The rest of his body and head was covered up with a winter gear... similar to what Russian Soldiers used during the infamous Russian Winters. He looked through the binocalurs from his safe and hidden little perch down on the Projects digging sight.

"Heh, they just uncovered a Capitol Police Trooper..." He said with a chuckle to his partner, "Seems to have scared them for a moment."

His partner was Ivan Kerovich, a fellow Red Tide Mafia Thug and Derabuns partner-in-crime, he said "Think we should report this?"

A bit of aways back in the forest the pair were hiding in was a little camp site. With a weather proof tent and other things... including an All-Terrain Combat Buggy. It was modified for the cold conditions and was armed with nothing more then a Kraven made GPMG that had been stolen. It was mainly there for a quick get away, just incase.

Derabun shrugged, "Go ahead." He said, still watching through the binocolurs.

The Journalists were asking questions and pushing into the dig, scientists struggled to hold back the crowd, Richardson was stood looking at the reporters, they kept asking questions, kept pushing towards him the shouting was loud and intense...

"What does this mean?"

"What are you going to do?"

"Has the Slovanian Government made a statement?"

"Have you found anything else?"

"Please, Questions will be answered one at a time...Please remain calm"

Richardson was speaking to the crowd with an unerving sense of authority, his voice was loud and directive... the people continued to shout and push however, when suddenly Richardsons vision went hazy...

Richardson had a flash back, rioters pushing towards a steel fence, people shouting and throwing rocks, Capitol Police stood behind the fence, using their strength to keep it in place, Officers stood on the top of APC's directing the Capitol Police...

"Return to your homes!" A voice boomed out across a PA system, the rioters continued to push, surging like a wave..

"This is your last Warning.."

An Officer jumped down from the APC and ran swiftly towards a Black Staff car, outside was stood several figures obscured by the darkness..

The Officer approached, snapping to attention...

"Sir, The Rioters are ignoring our Demands..."

"Order the Capitol Police to open Fire..."

"As you wish Reichmarshal Richardson.."

The Officer ran back towards the APC and began to speak into the radio, instantly the shouting was broken by the shrill chatter of GPMG's, people were being felled left and right, bullets tearing through people like they were paper, women, children and men screamed, there was no discrimination here, everyone was targeted, everyone felled with the upmost precision of the Capitol Police.

In perfect unision the firing paused for a few moments as the Troopers reloaded, a belt of 50 rounds pulled from the back pack and loaded into the GPMG, each drill was in perfect time as each breach was closed and each cocking handle set then sent slamming home...

The cacophony of destruction continued once more, while in the back Richardson shed a slight tear, these were his fellow people... he had no choice... his family was at risk and he was willing to pay this cost so high to ensure their safety...

slowy Richardsons vision returns, and his eyes focus in on the Reporters...

OOC: So this guys was a ReichsMarshal? Interesting.

IC:The two Mafia Thugs went back to their campsite, Kerovich reported in what they had seen for the day and they began to cook dinner over a stove they had brought with them. While eating, Derabuns asked the question, "Who is the head of that project anyways?"

Kerovich looked up, he was the info guy, "Some sort of administrator, believe his name is Richardson, from what I can recall, has a degree but not a masters."

There was a pause, Derabuns asked "Wait... when did he get this degree?"

"Some time after the Kraven-AMF War... dont know what he did before then... probably worked in some Kraven War factory and was able to avoid Freekian shells and VX."

Derabun blinked, then shrugged, "I dont think so..."

Kerovich looked up again, "Why?"

Derabun shrugged, "Call it a hunch... I am not to sure. Something about the way he talked."

They continued to eat.
