McKagan forms Coalition Against Religious Extremism (CARE)
Kurora, McKagan (SRN) -- Today while speaking at a press conference on the Kravanian War the President of the Democratic Imperium of McKagan made an unexpected announcement.
"In recent months, and even weeks, a rash of religious extremism-based political organizations have started using their beliefs as a right to execute and oppress mass groups of people. This very dangerous trend is beginning to form into imperialism. This is simply unacceptable. Because of said worries, I at this time suggest the formation of CARE; or Coalition Against Religious Extremism. Now this isn't about homosexual rights, or abortion, or how some people understand aspects of certain religious documents differently. It's about how they act on them. This Coalition isn't about using overwhelming military action to crush any nation who has an official religion, or about being the most secular organization to ever walk the Earth; but about using economic and social means to combat this threat to humanity. I encourage both religious and secular nations to join and work with McKagan. The main mission is simple: Religion based genocide and imperialism must be stopped; and international economic and social interests must be protected. That why in one months time this city will host a conference of everyone interesting with the goal of forming a long lasting, effective, and fair charter for this organization."
The President ended her conference by telling the world that any nation with an interest in joining should contact the McKagan State Department Consulate in Kurora, McKagan.

FROM:Minnechusettsfornian Government
TO: McKagan State Department
Minnechusettsfornia has witnessed too many acts of hate and opression in recent months, many pretending to be drawn from religious truths. We oppose such acts and philosophies strongly, and we would like to send a delegation to this conference. We hope that we can help build a brighter future for all inhabitents of this world by combating the scourge of theocratic extremism.
Offical Imperial Statement
I must say, I never thought I'd see something like this. Though, I do have a question for you and the members of your Coalition. The Trinity Empire of Jagada has used in the past, is using, and will continue to use religion has a unity for our people, and we will continue to use whatever methods nessecary to ensure our people, and the religious peoples of the world are not harmed or abused by hypocritical nations like yourself.
You may think it is hard to regonize, or thats your hands aren't covered with the blood of the innocent, but only a fool cannot see this. I've personally paid attention to the political 'climate' in McKagan. With the recent Liberal Party victory, in a extremely shame election, along with suddenly deaths of Christian political leaders across your country. One can only assume you are nothing more than a dictatorship, save you have 'pretend' elections. You are nothing more than an atheist state which oppresses its religious people. If anything you and your entire government should be put on trail for crimes against humanity.
Then again, alliances like these, forged in hatred and bent on pushing one belief upon others, rarely last very long--strong and sane leadership is hard to find these days. So the Trinity Empire will continue to do what it must to ensure the religious people are the World are not oppressed by governments and nations like those who join this CARE.

DEMOCRATIC SOVIET REPUBLIC OF KAHANISTAN
Ministry of Foreign Affairs
The Government of Kahanistan is interested in joining CARE. While out government is officially secular, roughly 75% of our population believes in one of the numerous religions which have a presence in Kahanistan. We are currently at war as a result of a religious terrorist attack in our capital.
We are very interested in any organization that seeks to repel the scourge of terrorist religious extremism from our lands.
Signed,
Margaret Delray,
Minister of Foreign Affairs
The Holy Empire of Naktan would be interested in such a coalition, as long as there is a more detailed description on the nature of of the actions of this coalition.
The Holy Empire of Naktan believes that the faith of all nations is threatened by all forms of extremism, and such vibes of thoughts must be combated at all fronts. In this, we hope to preserve the righteous nature of all religious traditions, as we also believe that the road to extremism perverts the road to the faith itself. Furthermore, religious brands of extremism are a known cause of terrorist activities, and thus limiting and preventing extremism would be great step in preventing terrorism.

The deaths of the various political leaders were far from sponsored by the government as you so suggest. It was determined by MISA in a special case that the attacks were carried out by rogue members of the radical muslim sect "Global Jihad." Futhermore, McKagan does nothing to oppress religious people. The fact is that the majority of McKagan isn't religious in the first place!
So the Trinity Empire will continue to do what it must to ensure the religious people are the World are not oppressed by governments and nations like those who join this CARE.
Yes, you'll continue to do that until someone of a different religious decides to voice their opinion. Then you'll form an alliance to defeat those evil heathens that dare disagree with your almighty and holy ways.

Robyn Cavalt, President of the Democratic Imperium of McKagan

While the mission we have invisioned for CARE is not a military one in nature, CARE would definately be organization to deal with that type of religious based terrorism. You are encouraged to send a delegation to Kurora for the upcoming conference.
To: Naktan
From: McKagan State Department
You seem to have understood the exact message McKagan is trying to send. It's not about crushing a religious, promoting a religious, or fighting a religious at large. It's about crushing terrorism and imperialism that come from such organizations at times. We'll define the organization more at the conference, which you are invited and encouraged to attend.

Statement from the Oligarch
Totalitarian Oligarchy of Laurasia
The Party is interested in C.A.R.E. and allowing Laurasia to join the coalition. Religion itself is an extremist point of view that is subversive and completely unorthodox to the teachings of OLICOL (Oligarchical Collectivism). Through careful social engineering and religious property seizing, the Party has been successful in eradicating all forms of religion from Laurasia. Total secularization.
Thus, the State believes that Laurasia can be a great ally in the war against radical, religious extremism. We believe that not only does C.A.R.E. help the world in rooting out this radical form of belief, but that Laurasia will greatly benefit from its acceptance. Thus, the Party hopes that their nation is quickly accepted.
Sincerely,
Father
Representative of the Party and Oligarch of Laurasia

Just as clarification, as this time everyone who has requested membership has been granted. Sending a delegation to the pending conference isn't a requirement for membership, however it is said nations only chance to influence CARE policy. We'd like to see more of you there, but we understand travel restrictions are a fact of life for some nations.
[OOC: I'm going to make a reference thread for this after a while that contains CARE doctrine, a members list, history, and the like. We'll also have a "security council" type arrangement where conflicts are made public. Would anyone who has registered have any direct problems with joining a separate set of forums at a later date?]
TO: The McKagan State Department
FROM: The Democratic Republic of Hamilay
The Democratic Republic would be very interested in this organisation. Our government is officially secular, and a large percentage of the population are the same. Religion is by no means discriminated against, but extremism and inciting to acts of religious hatred must be stopped. The Republic opposes all oppression, but oppression caused by religion is particularly saddening. If we are accepted, the President of Hamilay will be attending this conference.

Ad Vitam Aeternam! – For All Time!
To: The McKagan State Department Consulate in Kurora
The Democratic Imperium of McKagan
From: Dr Carolyne Daentra
Deputy Secretary
The Eternal Republic of Holy Xirnium
Cordial greetings from the Eternal Republic.
The government of Holy Xirnium (which is officially atheist) has long subscribed to the rational, secular notion that religion should not in any way interfere with, or be integrated into, the public affairs of a society. It is our opinion that separating politics and religion promotes, not only secularism, but also the noble goal of strengthening the essential civil liberty of religious freedom (a liberal civil right considered extremely important in the Eternal Republic). The Xirniumite Foreign Ministry therefore expresses interest in your CARE alliance organisation and indicates that it may be interested in one day joining it.
Religious extremism is a dangerous, irrational force that must be combated by supporting the spread of secularism in society. Indeed, many of the most heinous crimes against humanity are committed by fundamentalist religious ideologues.
The government of the Eternal Republic looks forward to attending your conference in Kurora.

Neu Heidelberg
26-02-2006, 03:11
A few minutes ago, His Reverend Excelency the Neu Heidelberg minister for Foreign Afairs issued the following statement.
"The Government of the Theocracy of Neu Heidelberg is rather concerned about the initative taken by McKagan. Though in name an organisation against extremism, the attendance by governments that implicitly or explicitly enhance atheism may make this conference a threat to peacefull nations like ours.
"The Lutheran-Calvinist State Religion of Neu heidelberg will change neither its teachings nor its practices because of material threats. Even less will it stop using its every influence for the Christian cause, that is: to make every human being a disciple of the Lord.
"Neu heidelberg has stated time and time again that such conversion should be voluntary. True conversion thereby is a safeguard against religious extremism, because peace is a work of the Holy Spirit - Gal. 5:22. Any sins commited in the name of Christiany are worse a sin than sins commited in the name of other teachings, because sins in the name of Christianity are so clearly a blasphemous use of God's name.
"The Neu Heidelberg government would like to take this opportunity to point out the true reasons for extremism:
poverty and anomy.
Whoever is concerned about extremism should be concerned about social and economical imparity.
Whoever is concerned about terrorism should present an alternative set of beliefs and customs for those who act out of a feeling of 'being lost without a clue in a hostile world'. So often terror is commited because only aggression presented itself as such a set, while covered by a malfunctioning religion.
"The Neu heidelberg government would like to present and elaborate these statements at any given time. We therefore hope that our country too be allowed to send delegates to the conference in McKagan. (Should we not be welcome, this will present a ground for further concern on our side. - As it should do to the rest of the world.)
"However, we ensure our citizens that this will not constitute a full participation in the conference. It merely means that we want to show goodwill, that we hope to advise the direction of resolutions that may or may not be involved and above all help shape the opinions of other governments on maters of poverty and anomy, matters that are ever so closely connected with loving one another.
"For the time being, we will continue our prayers for the participents and hope that the Lord may bless the procedures and the outcome of the conference."

You have misunderstood CARE. CARE is NOT about countering religion, but countering the things you mentioned that cause religious based terrorism and imperialism. One of the main issues there being poverty and intolerance. As we've previously stated CARE is NOT a military organization; but a social and economic alliance. If you are willing to work with and join CARE on these grounds then you are invited. However, the conference is about the formation of the organization; not the problems with it. If you want to aid in the formation of CARE's doctrine as it has been presented here, you are welcomed to come. If you wish to debate about the usefulness of such an organization then you should hold your own conference.
Commonalitarianism
26-02-2006, 23:42
You must explain the meaning of religious extremism. Three major religious movements have arisen in our country which are not part of the mainstream of the worlds religion. We would prefer that there be a different description. Because of these unique religious philosophies we cannot be party to your organization. Although they may not be extreme, they represent viewpoints which diverge considerably from the main points of religion and can be viewed as extreme.
These movements are The Church of Human Uplift, the New Harmonites, and The First Universal Church of Deism. The Church of Human Uplift supports genetic engineering to create a "perfect' enlightened human being. The New Harmonites seek to harmonize all philosophy, science, and religion through one central tenet which has not yet been determined but must be sought after forever. The First Universal Church of Deism is an organized deist body.
We of course allow full religious expression including extreme viewpoints as long as said bodies do not resort to violence within our borders. What happens outside is a separate matter.

CARE isn't about judging what religions are 'extreme' and which ones aren't. We aren't trying to form another cult that determines other people are too extreme to be tolerated. By 'extreme' we mean NATIONS that declare war, commit genocide, or otherwise compete against more peaceful nations in order to imperialize their own viewpoint.

Incidentally, we did not misunderstand the goals that McKagan had in mind when setting up this conference, we merely pointed out the implicit defaults that might arise at the conference itself, issuing from the attendence by nations that are more "judgemental" than yours - if it comes to state religions.
We hope that hereby lonhlasting diplomatic relations will commence to be established; bless your government.
