"Sir," The Taoiseach's aid walked into his superior's private residence at 0400 hours, "Sir, we must take action. We can't just sit here and cross out fingers hoping that we aren't attacked. If we do than we'll have no one to fall back on when we are." "Hmm," The Taoiseach groaned from behind the desk in his small 'home' office. "The problem is that if we side with the British then we face the possibility of an uprising by the damned IRA, but if we join the axis then we will once again be conquered by the English tyrants." "Then sir," The aid started, "I suggest that we at least try and protect our coasts and borders better. Build more ships, call for a draft, anything it takes to ensure that the Irish people are save from either side." "Fine, draw up a general idea and have by 1200 hours, I'll look it over and edit it then. As for right now I need to get some sleep," The Taoiseach said as he walked out of his office and into his bedroom to get some much needed rest.

Meanwhile:

"We must take action," IRA Chief of staff, Seán Russell, declared as he heard the news. He got on the phone with some of his colleagues, "Listen, tell your men to prepare for a pre emptive strike on Britain. We have intel saying that they may try to come down from the north.

OOC: The Irish were afraid that they would possibly be attacked by England to ensure two things:
1 The Germans couldn't
2 The IRA couldn't help the Germans

Also check the Non war IC thread. I posted a message to you there.

The Draft was approved. Another hundred men would be trained in this month alone and another three hundred every two months after it. There was work going on in the few development labs of the Irish Army. Anti-air defenses were being built all around the coasts and in the major cities. Two new boats were being worked on. By the end of the year twenty new Irish ships would be in the water.
