OOC: Here we go... 1 on 1...

IC:

Vince Royal headed was headed east. Slowly. Very slowly.

He was moving so slowly, in fact, that he was crawling on his belly.

His mission was to take out a German Sniper who was being a nuisance in a small town in to the east.

Easier said than done...

Sniper duels were never fun, and generally one of the men died... from a mistake.

I'll make no misatke this time... thought Royal. I'll send this German sniper to meet his maker.

He crawled very quitely through the corn field. Off in the distance, he could see a bunker bordering some rail roads tracks. That was very far in the distance, he had to use his scope to even catch a glimpse of it.

There's work to be done... go get 'em Vince...

Sergent Wilheim Klein rest on his knee peering through his scope at the town around the hotel which was near a stone bridge that allied troops could cross if it was taken. The hotel was the perfect sniper position with caved in walls and decent elevation making alot of the town visible to a sniper awaitng any enemys that thought they would cross that bridge.

The few days squads thought they would simply pass over, not one made it out of the town...the allies were starting to wonder why the town hadn't been called in occupyed..rumors of a ghost sniper.

The SS sniper breathed slow and steady scanning for prey over the bodys of other fallen soldiers. He was not the best sniper ever but the war had given him experiance, as a boy he hunted with his father and learned how to perfect shooting at long range with iron sights.

He waited patiently for any opposition that might appear. He was concealed by a raggy curtin hanging in a high window.

Vince crawled closer... and stared up at the sun. It looked to be about 9 a.m. be he couldn't be sure. His estimate was likely pretty good though.

He was sure to keep the noise down as he pulled out a waterbottle and chugged a small portion of it. He would have to make the most of his supplies until (and if) he reached the stream in the middle of town. Hydration in this hot son was important.

He looked at the bunker through his scope again... could there be anyone in there. He scanned it very carefully, finally satisfied it was vacant.

He began to crawl forward again, stopping about every 20 feet to check for the enemy through his scope.

Klein's eyes scanned the streets and buildings closely but very quickly, still nothing moved that posed a threat. If another sniper was looking at you and fired you would never even know thats how fast you would be dead.

Klein often thought about when he would be killed, he would not accept anything other than death in the defence of his home land.

The streets were covered with rubble and debris scattered everywhere from the town being bombed in night and day raids. Klein waited patiently for more enemys to put out of the war.

Vince had now snuck within about 15 feet of the bunker. He had kept himself far behind it most of the time, so if the enemy was in the town he would not be able to see Vince approach.

That was Royal's advantage... the enemy would not know when to expect him, in fact, the enemy didn't even know Vince was coming.

Vince crawled up to the bunker. There was a two foot gap between the concrete roof and the ground, (the concrete jutted out about 2 feet past the foundation of the bunker) and then through the hole there was the life of this section of the bunker, an 8 foot tall 100 square foot area.

Vince hauled himself through the opening. It was a very tight squeeze, but after a minute of hard work he was through. He would sneak through to the east entrance and see if he could find the enemy sniper.

Klein decided to find a different vantage point. He moved away from the window and to the back hallways of the hotel, he came to a spot where a bomb took out a large portion of the back of the building.

The SS sniper then sighted some stairs that were hanging from the next floor, it would be the only way he could get up another floor. Klein put his rifle over his shoulder and hoisted himself up on the bottom stair, he then got on his knees and scrambled up the remaining the stairs to the next floor.

On the new floor a large hole was blown out of the buildings front on this floor. Klein got down and crawled over to the edge of the gap where he was concealed by rubble and a metal beam. He crawled back slightly and looked through his scope....still nothing but destruction.

Royal tip-toed his way through the bunker. The complex twists and turns that existed in this place were difficult to navigate, even if you knew them by heart. But Vince didn't know them by heart, and at the same time was attempting to be stealthy. It wasn't working, he was getting lost in the complex bunker maze.

He eventually came to an door.

Vince stared at it. He had lost his sense of direction in the poorly lit bunker rather quickly, and he didn't know which way this door opened out to. If he opened it and the enemy happened to see it open, Vince was in a very bad spot.

Vince backtracked a bit and took a different turn, this time he found another door, leading out the same direction as the first.

He made his decision. He flew open the door, and jumped back quickly. Running for the other door, he slowly slipped it open, sticking his gun through first and peering through the scope.

If the enemy sniper was looking on, he would be distracted by the other door, and wouldn't know that Vince was hiding about a 100 yards away, waiting for him to open fire on an empty passageway.

Then again, Vince thought, I might get lucky and take him out if I see him when he sticks his head up.

Klein heard somthing slam loudly and directed his attention down the street where a door was open moving back and fourth from the gusts of wind. The sniper had not looked in that direction sence he had been in the new position so he could not tell if the door was already like that to begin with,

"Im not alone..." Klein said to himself caressing the trigger of his rifle with his finger

Vince lay motionless, looking through the scope.

No sign of the Kraut yet...

The German was certainly smarter than Royal had given him credit for. He hadn't fired yet.

It was now a waiting game.

Vince swung his rifle back and forth, peering through the scope, looking at the various structures in the town. From his vantage point, Vince could see several domestic structures, a partially destroyed church with a graveyard beside it, a train station, and he could just barely see the edge of a partially wrecked hotel.

Hmm... where are you Mr. Sniper...

What was that? Vince blinked. Did I just see movement in that broken down hotel.

No... his eyes must be deceiving him, and he was nervous besides that. It could have been anything.

Just to be sure, Royal peered through the scope at the hotel, and looked very closely. What is that? Vince spotted something sticking out from the hurting structure.

Finally, Vince decided it was just a piece of wood that had been shredded by the bombing and left on the edge of the remains.

He would wait.

Klein scanned the rubble carefully but still nothing moved. As he continued to peer through his scope the rumble of plane engines was heard over head,

"BOMBING RUN!" Klein thought but didn't dare move from his position..

The plane engines got closer and closer every second, the building shook violently, still Klein did not dare move....

Vince heard the roar of the planes above his head, and getting closer.

Darn... those... planes!

He would be safe in the bunker, but he was in risk of being hit by the blast or debris with the door open.

Quickly, Vince pulled his gun in, and the door shut silently.

He pulled back and raced down the tunnel, heading towards the center where he would be safe from any bombs.

Explosions echoed through the air and Klein knew he had enough. He scurried backwards and ran towards the battered stairs leading to the lower floors where he jumped down grabbing onto a oak balcony saving himself from the fall,

"Damn it!" he cursed

His arm muscles were strained from the quick reaction, he slowly dropped down making a loud thud with his jackboots. Klein slung his rifle and dashed for the door leading into the basement where he ran quickly hearing the bombs explode closer and closer, he dove to the concrete floor and tucked himself in a corner,

"Bloody bombs...do they not realize there is nothing left as it is...germany will be a crater when they are finished..."

He thought to himself....

Dust from the floor above fell making a cloud around the room, the buildings walls shook violently....

The bombs started to fall, and Vince clattered to the ground, clutching his rifle with one hand and covering his head with the other.

He heard the bombs tearing through things outside, appearently the bombs weren't actually falling on the bunker... but it was pretty dang close.

Vince lay there motionless and breathing heavy while he waited for the barrage to end.

I will find you German.... this bombing run may smoke you out.

The german crouched with his back to the wall reciting prayers like he was used to doing by now, asking the lord for protection in his time of need. He thought back to when he first heard the engines and replayed motions through his head when he all of a sudden raised his head with a angry look on his face,

"The door shut...THE DOOR SHUT!" He yelled loudly

The bombs slammed into town, Klein heard rubble crashing to the ground. He thought it could have been his imagination but still he had to investigate..so far no allies had lived that entered this town and it would not start all of a sudden.

He would stop the allies here for as long as possible, even if it was the only un-occupied town in germany.

As the bombers suddenly halted their attack, Vince rose to his feet, he headed what he believed was west... and he was right.

He came to the very same end of the bunker that he had crawled into in teh first place, and this time he crawled out. It was a stretch to get between the crack, but he was able to do it.

He found himself outside, behind the bunker now, covered by the size of the building. He looked up at the sun. It must be around noon...

Vince looked what he now knew to be south (from the sun), and saw a lake. He crawled to the edge of the bunker, rifle in hand, and paused.

Should he dare turn the corner?

He decided against it, and stared through his scope at the lake. If the German was around that lake right now, Vince was terribly exposed to his fire.

Klein scrambled up the wooden stairs leading out of the basement. He came out on the ground floor beside the reception desk and crouch walked over to a collasped wall where he layed down behind the scattered rubble,

"Common..." he thought looking towards the small part of the bunker that was visible from his position

He decided it was time to change his current position and crawled away from the hole towards the back door where he slid out into the sun. Smoke rose high in the sky and the smell of burning wood filled the air, Klein put his back to the hotel wall and pulled out a half smoked cigerette from his breast pocket and light it with his zippo lighter.

When he had finished he moved to the left keeping close to the wall, there he would cheak his left flank for any movement.

Vince spun himself around to face a large building in the middle of the town. The hotel again.

This time, Vince felt sure he saw movement, but he couldn't get a target. Part of the building was falling apart anyway, and it could have just been some shrapnel that had fallen to the floor.

But Vince wouldn't take a chance. He held his weapon trained on the building, searching every square inch with his scope. The hotel would certainly be an ideal palce to hide, but Vince was in a bad position to attack it.

He decided on a somewhat reckless course of action. He took out a match and found a dry piece of wood beside him. He carefully and quitely lit the wood on fire. The dry wood instantly caught and the flames licked the arid material.

Vince hurled the piece of wood as far as he could behind him (north) and then watched as a nearby bush and some grass caught flame. Starting a full scale fire wasn't a fantastic idea, but it would serve Vince's purposes. The nearby brush were engulfed by the heat and soon enough a middle sized fire was roaring.

Now was the time. Vince hopped to his feet and made a mad dash south for the woods surrounding the lake.

Klein peered around the corner to see a burning bush then he decided,

"Destraction!"

He gripped his rifle peering down his scope he seen dust being kicked up from movement, he then all of a sudden got a quick veiw of a man running..

*POW!* The Gewher 43 roared to life...

He had missed the target, that soldier must have felt the bullet wizz by....

"Mein Gott!.." he cursed aiming for another shot but the man was gone..

He quickly rushed towards the bridge keeping low, he knew the shot he let off had to of spooked the hell the out of that infantry man he fired at. Klein dropped to his ass, slid down the bank under the bridge dividing the town in half, the man was really moving quickly....it irritated the german sniper very much.

He was shaky and tired to shoot to quickly, ignoring the lessons he had learned and the training past on to him...

"I can't believe i missed...err.." he said quietly to himself...

One infantryman was not going to come back, by now he would be long gone...
