OOC: Looking for a Proxy War (FT)

OOC: Okay, in order to practice my skills involving space-based and ground-based conflict, I'm looking for somebody to oppose me in a small-scale proximity war, the sort of thing that does not leave the theatre of battle so neither side gets annihilated. It would also give me a chance to develop more characters in my military to feature in future character-based RPs.

The Scenario:

http://img518.imageshack.us/img518/8914/taroknam6wn.png

Taroknam is an 'M' Class planet in the Tarok System, three days high-warp travel from the Churchill System (the home system of the HSC). The third planet from the sun, Taroknam largely resembles Earth in size and gravity, the main difference being that the planet's only continent is largely stretched along the equator line, and subsequently covered in tropical rainforests and sufferering high temperatures all year round. Taroknam's most valuable feature is its large, untapped sources of metals, plantlife and fertile land due to its lack of any lifeform on the scale of human development.

The idea would be for my nation and someone else to stake claims on Taroknam, and tensions rise between the two sides due to their competition for the planet's resources. Eventually, after a build-up of tension and military equipment, the two sides engage in a small-scale war for control of the planet.

Any takers?

Oh Oh Oh!

I wouldn’t mind.

(thought I'd get a post in quick)

Okay, that sounds good. :) Could you give me a general idea as to what your own nation is like? Mine is a Star Trek tech based nation itself, somewhere around the TNG levels of sophistication (largest vessels I have at the moment are Galaxy Class Heavy Cruisers)

I’ve gone down the route of Battlestar Galactica (2000) tech. My ships in general tend not to use shields and go for heavy armor and flak (which conveniently for you does bugger all against lasers).

They are big ships however, most hover around the 1km mark and have a lot of firepower. They don’t tend to operate in fleet over the size of 20.

All types are battleship types primarily, a ‘scale’ I created dictates the doctrine of each type, so you’ll see aircraft carriers as well as direct action battleships. This is because due to the size of the fleet in general I’ve done away with escorts per say and have just bumped up the power of what was left.

Fighters are a big part of the fleet, they operate as air superiority as well as bombers. Raptors provide sensor support as well as boarding ships and CSAR.

On the ground theres very little difference between modern day tech, I don’t go for hyper futuristic guns, we still use bullets.

Nation wise, the leader currently is Lord Seric (there should be a post around about how he came to power) and things are getting a bit dark. The nations rotting always at the core, so although most of the armed forces are ‘good’ you will get the odd evil bugger and if you scratch at the surface (again in other posts) you will find torture ships and the like. The running theme is that everyone knows something is wrong but no ones doing anything about it, apart from the rebel element (but they shouldn’t have anything to do with this RP).

The other theme is that everyone’s got a deep seated fear for anything foreign (aliens and strange tech) due to a ‘doomsday prophecy’ of sorts where a race of aliens comes and wipes out the galaxy.

That’s very basically the nation.

Sounds good. :) I'll start writing the first post and link you to it from here once it is complete.
