Ocean, Unknown Coordinates, 0532 hours. On board the Salvatore, Flagship of the Nueve Italian Grand Fleet

~ It couldn't possibly get any worse for the people of Nueve Italia. God had truly seemed to abandon them in their most desperate hour. Days before, they were locked in a battle for their very existance with the Bandurians: Heartless, crazed murderers, who butchered the people of the Holy Imperial Repbulic to near extinction. The killers had dropped chemical and nuclear weapons upon Isola D'Argenta, the homeland of Nueve Italia, and now, it was inhospitable. Fleeing their destroyed home aboard any vessel that was available, the people of Nueve Italia were hunted and chased by the Bandurian Fleet for days, though it seemed much longer. Were it not for the intervention of military forces from Mondoth and Czardas, the Nueve Italians might not have escaped.

All that was left of this once-proud race was a fleet: Nearly a thousand ships strong of every class ever seen. From small fishing boats to mighty Battlecarriers, the fleet was led by one man: Antonio Orsini Gori, the newely proclaimed leader of the Scattered People of Nueve Italia.

For Antonio, his life had been shattered by the recent events back on Isola D'Argenta. He had witnessed his father die at the hands of a radical seperatists, had seen his nation's very land be destroyed, and had been going nonstop to keep the people of his shattered country alive and well. However, supplies were running low: Water, food, oil, and the like. If the Nueve Italians did not find land soon, they would die out in the vast expanses of the sea.

Gazing out at the sunrise before him, Antonio took in a deep breath. The sea air was fresh and calming; something the young leader neaded after such a long and ardous battle. The scene before him was unsettling, however: ships as far as the eye could see, still sailing on. His black hair was touselled by a rough wind that swept across the deck of the carrier suddenly. The salty-wind stung his eyes for a moment, and he began blinking rapidly, trying to regain his sight. When Antonio did look again, however, he could not have imagined was before him. Land.

Other ships had spotted it long before Antonio, Soveriegn Emperor of the People of Nueve Italia. Calling in in quick succession, hundreds of ships reported the miracle before them to the Salvatore, the Battlecarrier that was serving as the flagship of the Nueve Italian Grand Fleet. By now, everyone was awake on every ship, clamoring excitedly about this find. Antonio himself could not believe it: a new home for his people. A new life. He raced towards the Bridge as fast as his legs could carry him when he saw the first gleam of sun strike the beach before him.

Bursting into the command deck of the flagship, Antonio quickly assumed his role as Commander of the Nueve Italian Forces, barking out orders and inquiries left and right. When the entire fleet had been notified of the land before them, all of the ships dropped anchor, awaiting their leader's orders. Antonio had something to take care off first however.

" Comm Officer!"

" Yessir!"

" Send out a signal from this point to notify others of our presence here. We need all the help we can get. If any respond to the signal, tell them that the people of Nueve Italia are in desperate need of assistance: Their lives depend on it."

The comm. officer nodded, and immediately set to the task that his commander had given him.

Meanwhile, it was truly remarkable for a people who thought that all hope had abandoned them to see a second chance in front of their eyes.

Of course, much work needed to be done. The land had to be tamed, cities and housing be build, a government be established and the like. Before all of that even, the people had to explore this land.

But it was still there. A second chance for the people of Nueve Italia. A new hope.

Their future was finally starting to look up.~

SLowly the lights flickered on, revealing banks of computer monitors, set in several tiers facing a central wall display. One by one the monitors came on, scrolling startup text as they connected to the network and then, over hundreds and thousands of miles, finally to a vast network of state of the art spy and surveilance sattelites. Cheers erupted as the several dozens of people in through congratulated each other on having finally broekn back into their own codes, reclaiming the Mondothian sattelite network from destitution after the terrorist attack that had destroyed the original command center. With the sattelites back on line, Mondoth could once again pear down from the heavens and pick up almost any sight of interest.

Quickly the sattelites began running searhc algorithms. Tests to make sure that network was fully operational and to update the outdated information on military movements worldwide. Slowly, in patches, the central display began forming a humongous globe, splotches of color signified various identified fleets and armies. One patch showed an interesting grouping of vessels. The technician working that area quickly zoomed in, taking a close look at the hundreds upon hundreds of shipsfloating virtually at the mercy of the sea.

Message to the Nueve Italian Refugee Fleet

Our sattelite network has only recently been fully repaired. It seems fortuitous that our eye's in the sky were retored when they were and not later. It should please you hear that now that we know where you are, the aid fleet we have been preparing can be dispatched with full facilities to help maintain your people until a more permament homeland can be found. Hospital ships and cargo carriers with food and vital supplies are only a sampling of what Mondoth has to offer you. Please expect the aid fleet to arrive at your position with in the week. It will of course be escorted by a small military task force, given the nature of the fleet and recent 'piratical' actions taken against Mondothian shipping. Our network has yet to be coordinated with a Geo-Political map, so we are unsure of the nations near your landing place. perhaps the Military ships will be a godsend as well, though we hope that they are not needed for even so much as scaring off potential raiders.

On board the Salvatore, holding anchor near unknown beachhead

~ On the deck of the massive carrier stood almost all that was left of Nueve Italian leadership; Antonio Orsini Gori gazed out towards the bow of the ship with his wife, Catalina Gori, wrapped around his right arm. They had been married briefly and quickly on board the Salvatore, and the ceremony was not something that Catalina would have thought her marriage would ever be like, but nonetheless, it had happened. Next to the two were General Vincent Larenzi, Supreme Commander of the Republican Army, Admiral Faggio Perriggio, Supreme Commander of the Republican Navy, and General Gregorio Veduros, Supreme Commander of the Republican Air Force. The three stood solemnly as the looked at the amber waves around the ship and how they lashed at the white sands in front of them. As for the Senatorial body, only 37 of 100 Senators remained. It was a realization that the entire political structure of Nueve Italia would have to be refurbished once the people of Nueve Italia stepped foot on the soil of this strange new land.

" Captain! Message for you!"

A young sailor shouted from across the deck towards Antonio, who turned swiftly to see why he had been called for. To others, it would be strange as to why this courier had referred to the Emperor as "Captain," but in truth, it wasn't: Before his father had been killed and Antonio inherited his birthright, He had been a Fighter Captain of the 104th Tactical Fighter Squadron in the Nueve Italian Royal Air Force. All of that, however, seemed so long ago . . .

" Captain, message from the nation of Mondoth. They recieved our tranmission signal and are sending aid."

Antonio smiled. If there was one group whom he owed his life to, it was the Mondothian Fleet. It was their strategy of placing their ships in-between his and Banduria's that the Nueve Italians were able to escape.

" I'll be right there Ensign," Antonio remarked, with a hint of content in his voice.

Message to the Government of Mondoth

There has never been such a debt owed between two nations as there is between ours. It seems as though the genorosity proud people of Mondoth has no ends. Your fleet being sent will come under no harm, I assure you. Do not be alarmed, but once your ships come into our field of interception, a fighter squadron will be deployed to keep watch for any hostile contacts. This is merely a precaution: after the past few days, many of our people are paranoid, believing that we are only living on borrowed time. At this moment, we are going to try and disembark a part of our population to try and colonize the beachhead we have stumbled upon. Please, continue to send all transmissions to the Salvatore; Her channels will be open at all times for messages. Our thanks to your people knows no bounds.

Unknown Beachhead, several hours later

The disembarkment was going rather smoothly. First, people from military vessels were let off to secure a perimeter on the area. When nothing was found, fighter jets were deployed to scan a twenty mile radius and then report back in five minute intervals. Next, a floating dock, carried on one of the military transport ships, was set at the beachhead, stretching about half a mile into the sea. From here, civillian vessels were ordered to dock, get off whatever they needed, then steer away from the dock, drop anchor, and then the navigator would be picked up in one of the many dinghies the fleet had to spare.

As this process carried on for hours, hospital ships then came and got off whatever medical supplies they could spare. Following that were container ships, dropping off whatever food and water they could as well.

The entire process of dropping off a nation was going to take a very long time, most likely weeks, but it was a start. By now, anyway, things were looking better for the Nueve Italians then they ever had been.~

"But theres nothing there except a reasearch detatchment."
"I know sir."
"What is their fleet size."
"A few thousand."
"Go to alert level one:Dispatch battle groups 1,2, a-t, and B1-B7. This may be war."
"Yes sir." the lietenant scuttled off.

Hello, Nueve Italia,
We have an offer for you of help. If you help us build a military and commercial fleet we will help rebuild your nation on the ocean. We can build many of these things for you. You will no longer have to live on boats. We will take many of your ships in exchange for building a large number of these. This will allow you to rebuild your nation.
Our nation is built on commerce. But we must be able to defend ourselves. Your fleet represents a tremendous opportunity for both of our peoples. A chance to learn and build new classes of ships for commerce and trade worldwide. We wish to become the premier trading nation in the world and to do that we must have a fleet of ships unmatched on the earth.
I realize the urge to rebuild on land, but it would also be of great importance to build on the seas as well. We offer you hope, dignity, and freedom.

Regards,

Myles Ming Brown, Commonarch of the Commonalitarianism.

We have this to house your people:

Freedom Ship Mark 2.
Freedom Ships twenty-five decks house residential space, a library, schools, and a first-class hospital in addition to retail and wholesale shops, banks, hotels, restaurants, entertainment facilities, gymnasium, martial arts center, international art gallery, casinos, offices, warehouses, and light manufacturing and assembly enterprises. A seawater purification plant is built into this facility. There is also a recycling center, and waste reprocessing center allowing for close to complete reclamation of waste. The waste is processed into fertilizer to maintain the parks and gardens. It is also used in the small botanical garden inside the ship. The recycling center processes used metal for the light assembly plants. The police center bunker inside the ship provides for protection of its citizens and preparation drills against piracy. There is also a small recruiting station for the military with a mutual association for the different services available. A ferryboat transportation system provides departures every 15 minutes, 24 hours a day, to 3 or more local cities giving ship residents access to the local neighborhood and up to 30,000 land-based residents a chance to spend a day on the ship. The windows on the ship are made of a clear solar cell material able to resist typhoon force or greater winds providing power to the ship making it require little outside power sources. The windows can resist most all small arms fire. Also a submarine dock is available for up to four tourist or transportation submarines.
A virtual private network is built throughout the ship. This virtual private computer network provides cheap VOIP telephone service, international satellite cable television access, and has optional secure access to the internet through a separate channel.

Parks and promenades boast waterfalls, ponds, and extensive landscaping. Ours includes a small botanical garden. Most levels feature large saltwater aquariums. Included is a small marine science center for oceanic research. In addition, there is an aquaculture center for growing fish, and sea vegetables. There are small hydroponic gardens to provide fresh fruits and vegetables. There is also a pleasure district for gambling and relaxing activities. The shopping mall, one of the world's largest, is also one of its most beautiful. Portions are dedicated to individual countries, featuring culturally characteristic architectures. There is also a weekend flea market and an open space for small business kiosks. The 100-foot-wide main deck leads to a marina at the stern. There are over 200 acres of open area for recreation and relaxation. Included is a small artificial lake stocked from our aquariums for fishing. Also there is a small firing range to practice target shooting. Small electric transport with recharger stations are available throughout the ship. There are also bicycle paths in the recreational areas for recreational riding.

The vessel's flat bottom hull construction, along with its extraordinary size, results in unmatched and unprecedented stability providing a smooth ride in the roughest seas. The safety of the vessel is enhanced by the use of 600 individual air/water tight hull sections. These hull sections are coated with a light hard ceramic armored coating to prevent damage from other ships bumping into the ship. Extensive use of 4 hour rated firebreaks between decks areas within the decks enhance fire safety. The ship is virtually fireproof. The electro-static ventilation system supplies uncontaminated, filtered and purified air. It has automatic detectors for chemical and biological agents and will automatically locate the presence of such agents in any part of the ship. There is an entry processing center for incoming travellers. This includes a series of checkpoints for bombs, biological agents, and other material which you wish to be checked for.

The ship's design accepts up to 40,000 full time residents, 30,000 daily visitors, 10,000 nightly hotel guests, and 20,000 full time crew. This population of 100,000 people provides a wealth of talent and diversity for the private businesses aboard the ship and to those they visit daily on their adventures ashore.

Freedom Ship has a flight deck can accept are turboprop aircraft in the 38 to 40-passenger range. While fixed wing aircraft are economically and strategically more practical we can eliminate the landing strips and replace them with helicopter pads and a large recreation facility for the residents if you wish. A retractable dome is available to seal the landing pad against hurricanes and typhoons.

This is a link to the original Freedom Ship : http://www.freedomship.com
length: 4,500 feet, width: 750 feet, height: 350 feet
price: $12,000,000,000
We also have a cooperative buy in plan where permanent residents can buy shares for $300,000 a piece, a maximum of 3 shares can be purchased at any given time for each individual. There is a maintenance fee of $600 per month per share to keep the residential areas in the ship in order. If we collect 40,000 shares in your market we will build a new ship for you. This is especially good for overcrowded countries.

Official Imperial Statement

To Antonio Orsini Gori, or acting head of the former Nueve Italian state;

We, on behalf of the Imperium, formally apologise for Imperial actions during the Nueve Italian Civil War. The officer who ordered the use of nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons upon the Nueve Italian homeland has been dealt with accordingly; he exceeded his authority, fabricated messages from the Upper Command, and committed war crimes unacceptable by the laws of the Imperium. We also wish to donate the sum of two trillion sestertii ($3.265 trillion Universal Standard Dollars) to Nueve Italian rebuilding efforts, to improve the survivors' quality of life and allow reconstruction to begin. We know that after the events of the past winter you could never accept protectorate status of the Imperium, so we have refrained from making such an offer; nevertheless, we hope that our efforts have aided your people in some way.

Pro Imperium, Gloria, et Deo~

The Salvatore, current official government residence of Nueve Italia

~ " Sir! I think we've succeeded in angering someone!"

As if trouble seemed to be attached to the people of Nueve Italia like cinderblocks cemented onto one's feet, a new hostile force was currently treating the Grand Fleet as an invasionary fleet. Antonio, who was running himself ragged overseeing each and every detail of his people's progress on making it onto the island, nearly hadn't the patience to deal with a matter of this, but to ignore such a warning wasn't something a ruler who cared for his people did.

" Comm Officer, patch me in to the fleet that broadcasted the warning, I'll speak to them personally."

Antonio's request was met with all haste, and in a few seconds, the line was traced back whence to it came, and the Emperor was in direct communication with the nation of Admiral-Bell. However, he wanted to clear something up first.

" Comm Officer, you said that this country stated that they have research facilities on this island?"

" Yessir."

" Have our fighters reported any civilization on this island back?"

" No sir, within a twenty mile radius of the beachhead, we have no visual confirmation of any technology or civilization."

" I see. . ."

Message to the Government of Admiral-Bell
From: The Scattered Peoples of Nueve Italia

To Whom this may Concern:

Your threat and warning to our nation's people is uncalled for. We are not an invasion fleet: any sensible person can see that. What attacking army sends civilian vessels with its spearhead forces? Furthermore, what invasion fleet sends every ship they have in their entire country at a target? No, we are no hostile naval fleet. Our country has been destroyed by chemical, biological, and nuclear weapons. Its very land is tainted and decaying. Hence, we can no longer live there. We, the people of Nueve Italia, have set away from that dreaded place in search of a new home, which we have found here. If this truly is an outpost of yours, we have found no evidence for us to believe so. If you cannot justify that this island is yours, and you do attack our fleet, we will defend ourselves with everything left in our arsenal, which, I may assure you, is quite a bit of weaponry. Please, we are simply seeking refuge and rest, and need no more of chaos and war. We are asking, nay, we are begging to simply be content with the lives we still retain and may start anew. We ask for no more war upon our country and people.
_____

Aside from dealing with a group bent on attacking what was left of the Nueve Italians, Antonio learned that the government of Banduria had also contacted his nation. He scoffed at what an ensign called a "sign of peace," and wouldn't believe that any Bandurian would ever have good intentions towards his people. He had seen their attrocities first hand: witnessed many good men and women die because of their treachery. However, he still decided to entertain the Bandurians' message, and respond to it once he had read it. Upon reviewing the statement by the official Bandurian government, Antonio realized that his people were the victims of simply one man's hatred of them. The need for vengeance was not something that Antonio craved often, but now. . . Morality could be bent for some cases.
_____

[b]To- Lucius I, Emperor of Banduria
From- Antonio Orsini Gori, Emperor of the Remnants of the Holy Imperial Republic of Nueve Italia

Due to the actions of many Bandurians, our people have endured the worst suffering a nation can face. Our land is inhospitable. Our families lay dead and dying. Our very spirit and will has been broken. Many, I believe, will never forgive the Imperium for the brutish and barbaric acts its people have brought upon Nueve Italia.

However, I believe your words, Emperor Lucius the First. I believe that your government, your people would not have authorized such needless destruction. I believe, yet I know in my heart many will not. Many will blame your people, seek vengeance upon them, and hate them for all their lives. As best as I can, I will see to it that they are shown the light, and come to not resent Banduria, but I can promise nothing. You don't know what it is like to see your very land: your homes, cities, achievements, hopes, and dreams, all of it simply killed. I pray that a day never passes where you must bear witness to such an action.

Your offer to help in the rebuilding efforts of our country is most kind. On behalf of the people of Nueve Italia, I accept any aid that can be spared. In our darkest hour, we can only pray and hope for the best. Our belief is that God has chosen this path for us: we may influence how we walk it, but it is ours to endure. However, travel goes by much quicker when in good company, as the saying goes. Thank you for your time and generosity. May there come a day where the anger between our peoples settle and be forgotten.

HMS Reward

With clean efficiency the Reward’s clipper bow sliced through the seas as the engine plant provided the power to thrust her forward, ever closer to the Nueve Italian fleet that the airborne URAVs noted at a distance of still some 500 kilometers away. On the open bridge, Commodore Spencer Irons ran his fingers over the printed report that his communications suite had received from a nation that the United Kingdom had once aided in one time of need, only to find it now all but destroyed and seeking the near impossible. And yet the Prime Minister decided that UK resources would be diverted to the new Nueve Italia and aid a people that the UK considered dear friends and allies.

Glancing off to port, Irons found the ship that would likely be seen as a savior to many within the Nueve Italian fleet – a nearly fully stocked replenishment vessel with several hundred tons of dry stores and several thousand barrels of maritime fuel. The rest of his small squadron could only provide limited augmentation to the fighting power of the Nueve Italian fleet, although it maintained the distinct advantage of being relatively well rested in comparison to a group of ships that had fled for their very lives, a journey that Irons found entirely remarkable – and more so that they had survived.

From behind him he felt the deck shake as the shoes of his communication officer slammed onto the corrugated steel deck plating. Commodore, we are now within communications range.

Very good, Lieutenant, I shall be in within a moment. Irons rested his palms on the cool, tubular steel railing as the gravitas of the situation struck him. He would be the point man for the next chapter in UK-Nueve Italia relations, a chapter sure to be riddled with difficulties that might or might not be overcome.

Attn: Emperor Gori

Although absent in your most recent troubles, the United Kingdom has not forgotten our long-bond of friendship and we wish to lend you our hand in these truly desperate times. Although I can personally offer little, I am but the vanguard of what could be a large amount of UK aid directed towards rebuilding Nueve Italia on your newfound island.

For the more immediate future, however, I represent His Majesty’s Ship Reward and her surface action group, consisting of a battlecruiser, two destroyers, two frigates, one submarine and most importantly, I feel, an oceangoing replenishment vessel with nearly full stores and fuel. The Admiralty has authorized me to release said stores and fuels to your fleet should you formally request the transfer.

In the meantime, on the behalf of the Prime Minister and His Majesty King George, I would like to say that the United Kingdom is quite pleased to find that not all of your nation was lost and that may these coming months and years only cement more fully the relationship between our two peoples.
