President Lorenov was grim. He had just come from a meeting withthe People's Senate. They had agreed to authorize his proposal within the next few days. Now all that needed to be done was put events in motion.

His government had recieved word several weeks ago that the King of Rodenka had assumed extreme executive power. This was worrisome to him. Kilani's neighbor to the north was taking steps toward fascism. Already they had returned large tracts of land to several noble families, leaving some working class people out on the streets. The very idea was counter-revolutionary. And what's worse, they might even try spreading those ideas south...

He looked around at the assembeled generals and cabinet members. In this room was the entire People's Army of Kilani High Command, along wth almost every high-ranking official in the country.

"Comrades," he began, "I have called you all here today because we must make a grave decision. As you are well aware, the rulers of Rodenka foolishly took a step backwards in social progression, giving dictorial power to their king. In the past, we have always had at least decent relationships withthem despite their continued use of a monarch. At least then they had the decency to have a parliametn. BUt now...I am afraid not only for my people, but for our comrades and fellow workers across the border. What could this king do with dictorial power? They may as well have stepped back four centuries!"

"Comrades, I propose that we liberate the Rodenkan people from their dictator and depose this so-called 'king'. The Senate ha agreed to raify the proposal and declare war. However, I would be as bad as their king if I did no ask you to vote on it as well."

There was a moment of silence before the Secretary of State spoke up, "Comrade President, I do not think we can go forward with this. It is imperialistic, despite the stated goals. Invade Rodenka? That would be proposterous."

The president nodded, "I know how you feel comrade. But let us vote."

The final tally was 15-6, for.

+++

Within days, the Kilani Army began mobilization. Reservists were called up. Every man and women between the ages of eighteen and twenty-five was ordered to report to their respective mustering centers. The active military was ordered to redeploy units north. In a week, there were 1.1 million men along the Kilani-Rodenkan border.

A massive propoganda blitz was launched, assuring the people of Kilani that this would be only temporary. The military would be on alert due to massive exerciese in the north. Several politicians gave speeches railing aginst the evils of monarchy. Editorials begin appearing, arguing that the Rodenkans have taken a massive step backwards. War inches closer.

[Secret IC]
The President ordered the airforce to begin bombing at 0100 the following morning, following a special session of Senate.

Royal Army of Rodenka Headquarters, Ulsburg
General Sir Joachim Tiefel bent over the series of phtographs that had been taken by a high-flying Rodenkan spy plane, frowning. The communists to the south were mobolizing along the border, and that could not mean anything good.

He looked up, immediately springing to attention and saluting smartly as King Fredrick entered the room. "Your Highness!"

Fredrick returned the salute. "At ease, general. What do we have?" Tiefel indicated the phtographs.

"As near as we can tell, the Communists are mobolizing for a war. These photographs, along with the anti-monarchial sentiment we've been recieving from the Kilani airwaves and newspapers seem to prove that. I advise immediate mobolization and pacing our own military forces on high alert."

The king nodded, looking at the various other officers that were assembled in the room. "Is this the consensus of the High Command?" There was a murmur of assent from the others, and the king nodded again. "Very well, then we mobolize."

The Rodenkan Army is mobolised along the border and the reserves are put on standby. Air patrols along the border increase.

Sultan Suleiman Al Bashir II (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v504/Ottoman01/73.jpg) was reading the latest new that was coming from the nation of Rodenka, He thought to himself…”Such a foolish young Emperor…has made many enemies by doing this. Half throughout plan to secure more power for himself.. European background monarchs have such a half hazard way of thinking…no wonder so many of them went the way of dodo…oh well..but this Kilani is more interesting compare to this bloody half baked King of Rodenka..”

Then Grand Vizier Mehmed Pasa Sokollu (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v504/Ottoman01/marcus.jpg) enters the Sultan office and said

“My Sultan, you have call me and yes I have review that report from the foreign affairs ministry on the situation between Kilani and Rodenka..all I have to ask why should we even brother with this…our current policy of realism states, this situation doesn’t effect us in the slightest bit..”

“Of course, our policy calls for us to not enter this situation…yet our nation has to establish itself more in the international spotlight and we must extent our influence to other nations..if we are to be fear and respected in the world….we must get involved in this war on grounds of protecting this nation Rodenka right to do what they please in their nation, without Kilani telling them what to do..we are not going to support their policies, we are just there to help them defend themselves from Kilani…frankly I could care less for their King..who apparently is moron and dumbest man to ever walk this earth. Disband Parliament..such a fool…” said the Sultan

“So we are going to use this conflict for our own interested and to show the world our power and gain that respect so badly we want… shall we send a message to this half baked King of theirs?” asked the Grand Vizier

“Yes, we’ll a message soon enough, note…we are not going this for free and most important not out of the goodness of our hearts…nothing is for free in life..remember that Grand Vizier.” Said the Sultan

OOC: This will just have to take place after you actually begin the attack. If this goes against how you were planning the attack or anything please just let me know.

IC: Several arguing messengers burst into the throne room shouting angrily.

"What is it?" Czar Vasili Kotov asked casually, playing his usual game of chess with Master of Assassins Roman Kostyanov.

One messenger broke off the argument with the others and spoke, "Sire, you remember the nation that dissolved their House of Commons?"

Now the Czar was alert. This was no ordinary news. "Yes," he answered, "Rodenka was it?"

"Yes, sire. We have recieved early reports that they have been attacked."

The Czar closed his eyes and thought for a moment. "Was the attack provoked by the shift in power?"

"That would seem logical, sire."

Czar Kotov sighed loudly and rested his head on his hands for a moment. When he lifted his head back up, his eyes showed the internal conflict raging inside him. Finally he made a dire decision. "Mobilize the army."

Roman Kostanov objected immediately. He shot out of his seat and stood, looking down at the Czar. "Sire, this will spiral out of control faster than-"

"I know, Roman, I know. Whoever is doing this has left us with no choice. Mobilize the army. We'll decide later if Rodenka is worth saving." the Czar stood slowly and headed for the War Room.

0100 Hours, Kilani-Rodenkan Border

The sounds of hundreds of jet engines echoed through the air as the first wave of Kilani attack planes crossed into Rodenkan airspace.

At roughly 25,000 feet were the Lu-12s and Lu-45s. They were to attack enemy airfields, bridges, communications, and enemy troop positions. The Lu-12s carried a variety of air-to-ground missiles, as well as cannon. The Lu-45s were on escort and ground attack duty, carrying mainly AAMs, but some GAMs as well.

At 50,000 feet, larger bombers were on there way to bomb positions further into Rodenka: rail depots, supply depots, airfields, and other targets.

It was an impressive sight. Well over half of the Kilani airforce was in the air tonight.

On the ground, the Rodenkan defenders can hear tank engines warming up and as the sound of engines begin to grow louder, the far horizon lights up. The preliminary artillery bombardment had begun.

The PAK was arranged on an east-west axis. Closest to the coast was Army GRoup West. On their extreme eastern flank was Army Group Center. To the east of center was Army Group East and Army Group August. Waiting to the south of Army Group Center and West was the Reserve Army Group. Well over a million men and machines were on the move against the facists.

Radar Station 18, 1..5 Kilometers north of the Rodenka-Kilani Border, Blau Mountain Range

Hauptmann Georg Tristig yawned and sipped his coffee. The night had passed thus far (as usual) uneventfully, despite the alert from High Command. He was considerign going to get another cup, when a shout came from one of the stations.

"Sir! I think you'd better look at this!" The man's voice was shrill with fear. Tristig hurried over, perring down at the screen that was rapidly filling with contacts.

"Mein Gott..." he murmured, crossing himself instinctively, then reaching for the telephone that sat nearby. "This is Station 18! We have massive incoming contacts! We believe that they are People's Airforce aircraft en route to Rodenka. This is NOT a drill, repeat, NOT a drill!"

Already, the camoflaged SAM sites that surrounded the radar station were tracking targets, preparing to fire when they came in range.

Blumstadt Airfield, 15 Kilometers further North.

Moments after the phone call had been recieved, the pilots of Geschwader 17 were running to their interceptor aircraft, Lu-45 'Hawk,' twins to the Kilani aircraft that were at that moment heading towards Rodenkan airspace. Soon, the entire force of 22 fighter craft were prepped and taking off, along with aircraft from dozens of similar airfields across the country.

Air Patrol by Flight Group 'Leopard', 30,000 Feet

LuftcOberst Sir Heinrich Bonn peered out of his canopy, watching the 5 other planes of hsi patrol. They had just reciveved word of the impending air invasion and they knew what they had to do. They must delay the oncoming enemy as long as possible in order to give their comrades time to get into the air.

Bonn examined his HUD. "Leopard flight, we have incoming hostiles. We are weapons free, repeat, weapons free. Take your shots when you have them."

The flight broke into a dive, heading towards the enemy craft below. Bonn armed his missles, locking on to one of the oncoming enemy before pressing down on the 'fire' button. "Leopard 1, Fox Three!" There was a chorus of similar words as the flight opened fire at long range. The war had begun.

Blockhouse 91, Kilani-Rodenka Border, Main Highway

The men of 2nd Platoon, B Company, 551st Infantry Regiment sat, waiting for the enemy bombardment to end. A few flinched each time the shells crashed down around the blockhouse, others simply sat. They knew the enemy was coming, and they knew that they were there to delay him. They would not dissapoint God or their country.

Urlsburg, Royal Palace

Fredrick was jerked out of his sleep by the urgent shaking of an aide. "Your Majesty! The Communists have begun their attack!"

Fredrick cursed and sutmbled out of bed, hurriedly dressing. He was straighteneing his jacket as he hurried down the corridor towards the elevator that would take him to the war room, and the High Command.

Already, units that were on stand-by began gearing for deployment, those on the border braced for the oncoming wave. All in all, a mere half a million men faced the oncoming Communists, spread across the border. They would sell themselves dearly in the attempt to delay the enemy.

Aleph Flight, Rodenkan Airspace

"Incoming missiles! Break, break!"

The planes began taking evasive action as the enemy missiles sped towards them. Explosions filled the night sky as missiles exploded, some finding targets. two of the twenty-four plane flight were hit, one exploding in mid-air. The second ejected, his parachute deploying as the pilot was thrown clear of the stricken plane.

"Alpeh flight, engage. Smash the facists!"

There was chorous of affirmitives as the Lu-45s turned to engage their counter-parts. Missiles sped towards the oncoming enemy planes as the two forces closed the range.

Boadsword Flight, Kilani-Rodenkan Border

"Targets below. All craft engage."

The Lu-12s rolled and dived on the bunkers and enemy troops below. It was time for the airforce to clear the way for the army. Bombs dropped as the planes pulled out, explosions pock-marking the ground below.

All along the border, similar engagements took place as the People's Airforce engaged the Royal Airforce of Rodenka.

International Highway Two

Tanks, trucks and APCs roared forward, driving towards the Rodenkan border. Many of the soldiers watched as the preliminary barrage began to let up slightly. In a few minutes they would be engaging the border defenders.

Statement of The Republic of N Y C

N Y C condemns this invasion and all its instigators. We have no love for dictatorships, and certainly hope the Rodenkan King will agree to a more democratized government. However, war should only be used as a last resort. Kilani has no right to forgo the diplomatic processes that keep the world intact. We strongly urge both sides to cease immidiately and try to resolve this conflict with the pen instead of the sword. We would like to know exactly what Kilani plans to do if and when she overruns her neighbor. We will not tolerate warcrimes by the agressors and will send in a peacekeeping force if such an event occurs. Until a ceasefire is reached and the parties can negotiate without bloodshed, we are ending all trade with Kilani.
May the spirit of peace guide your actions,

The People's Reublic is not responsible for any casualties inflicted on your troops should they attempt to enter the theater of war. If they attempt to intervene they will be treated as hostile forces, serving under the flag of Rodenka.

To President Israel Azullias [Encoded]

It is our intention to overthrow the so-called king of Rodenka and put a democratic republic in place so that the people of Rodenka may rule themselves once more. We also plan on abolishing such outdated concepts as nobility.

We are sorry to hear that your free and democratic nation does not see the wisdom in this move. Facism anywhere is a threat to freedom everywhere and is in essence counter-revolutionary. We are saddened by the loss of trade with your nation. You can rest assured the Kilani soldeirs will never commit acts of terror or destruction against the civilians of Rodenka. We ourselves, during our civil war, were subject to forign invasion. They used our civilians as human shields. The death toll was catastrophic.

The people of Kilani know full-well the price of war crimes. The instigators were subsequently tried and executed several months later.

Farewell Comrades.
[Signed]President Alexei Lorenov

To the Facist State of Blessed Chris

Your leaders have been declared Enemies of the People and your government is no longer recognized. We call on the people of Blessed Chris to raise against their oppressors and destroy their facist governemnt.

Leopard Flight, 35,000 feet

Sir Bonn, twisted his plane to one side, spraying flares behind him as he attempted to shake off the oncoming missles, he glanced behind, sighing in feleif as the one's that had targeted him zipped by, confused by the countermeasures.

He was straightening out, when he heard the anguished screams of the other pilots.

"I'm hit, I'm h-"

"EJECT! EJECT!"

"I can't shake this on-"

"Ejecting!"

"I need some help here!"

Bonn watched and listened in horror as four of the planes in his flight exploded or began the long spiral to the ground below. Only two parachutes appeared.

"Damn you!" he cursed, activating hsi afterburners and speeding towards the enemy aircraft, trying to close the range. As he came closer, he squeezed the trigger, a burst of cannon fire reaching out towards an enemy plane.

Across the border, soldiers hunkered in their fortifications, awaiting the oncoming enemy. To the rear, enginneers were already fitting explosives to bridges and important mountain highways. They would delay the enemy in whatever way possible.

West Corinthian C-17s have begun bringing in land forces to secure the command post you have permitted us to build. A small airfield is being built within it's perimeter to allow the C-17s to bring supplies directly to the base, and to allow fighters to land/refuel there. Helicopters are also being flown in.

Our sea forces have also been deployed and are en route to the Rodenkan coast. We will fly most air missions off of our carriers. Again, we would appreciate keeping direct command over our own troops. We will not declare a state of war between West Corinthia and Kilani, but we can still help you as "peacekeepers." T-72s have been replaced with more modern Leopard 2s.

A single gun fired. Several seconds passed. Then the radio crackles.

"Shell is on target. Fire for effect!"

The artillery opens up in a blistering salvo.

As the scream of incoming shells fills the air, the Rodenkan soldiers duck into their foxholes, fire slacking off as they attempt to avoid the shells. But even as the Kilani artillery begins firing, Rodenkan artillery responds from 15 kilometers away, sending shells directly onto presighted points on the highway.

Secret IC:
It has been 2 days since power was handed over to the New Elected Emperor, Mr George A. Loak (Former Minister of the Interior), from former Emperor Galen Q. Leotardia. Emperor Loak was pacing back and forth in the hall. He had never sat in the Imperial Chair and was nervious doing it so early after the Election. Galen walked up to him while he was pacing and tapped him on the shoulder, making Emperor Loak spin around. They looked at eachother at first.

Galen: "Congratulations George. This is a big honor for you. Although I wish you good luck, there is a matter that was brought to my attention before I left the position that you might want to know about."

George: "Go on."

Galen: "Approximatly several days ago a nation decided it wanted to back to a Monarcy/Parliamentary governing body. Where the Parliament had little control and the King had a lot of control. This didn't go well with their neighbors to the south and the neighbors soon decided that they wanted to wipe out the current government to their north and make way for a more 'democratic' government. Now personally I would send some aid in the form of medical supplies and food supplies to the defending nation while having SpecOps take out attacking military positions without either side knowing about it, but the call is yours. I would meet with your Joint Cheifs of Staff and get their input before you do anything."

George: "I need to choose someone to take the position that I vacated. But maybe i'll have a meeting. And I think that I am going to put out a message with what could happen if the Empire intervened."

Galen: "Thats good. Now, have a good reign there George."

Galen then turned around and walked toward the front door. George thought for a second and realized that Galen just gave him the go ahead to sit in the chair. George then walked into the Emperors office and up to the desk. he stood there for a minute then walked around the desk and sat down in the chair. This would be the finest day so far in his Reign as Emperor...

The Parliamentary Body and the Imperial Cabinet of The Pure Socialist Holy Empire of Shazbotdom has talked over this issue and has decided that we will do whatever it takes to protect the soverignty of the Nation of Rodenka. Right now we are preparing what forces we can to initiate a defensive line. These forces will consist of Marines, Anti-Aircraft defences, and Sub-Orbital Aircraft. We will take down anything and everything comming out of the Naiton of Kilani if they don't withdraw their declaration of war against the Nation of Rodenka. Thus is the will of the Empire and Thus will be done.

The 14th and 15th Companies of the Shazbotdom Marine Corps were being prepared for insertion into the warzone. This would be a large military force for such a small operation, but it seemed to the Emporer that this would be a needed force to counteract such a stupid war. He was also ordering a flight group of 200 Sub-Orbital fighters and a group of 150 Sub-Orbital Bombers to take out any military positions of the Nation of Kilani within the boarers of Rodenka.

The flight group of Fighets was under the command of Sub-Commodore Fredrick Hanson.

The flight group of Bombers was under the command of Sub-Commodore Jack Douglas.

The 14th Marine Company was under the command of 3 Star General Nicolas Linkcrew.

Encrypted message to Shazbotdom
We are glad to see you enter the theatre in support of Rodenka. We have troops stationed there, but have been timid in using them for offensive action as of yet. With only a small force there, we could easily be overrun and have the peacekeeping mission turn into a full-scale war with Kilani. This has been something we were trying to avoid. However, with a dominant power such as your own nation entering the conflict, we could finally begin offensive action against Kilani, which we were saving as a last resort. We would like to coordinate our attack with your forces to maximize damage to Kilani forces. Please respond on same frequency.

Waters off the Rodenka coast

The printer on the deck of one of West Corinthia's aircraft carriers began typing out a message sent by headquarters. The captain read it quietly to himself, and then ordered the fleet to halt. He toggled his speaker and spoke into it, "Action stations, I repeat, action stations. This is not a drill. Pilots man your planes."

The hallways of every ship were instantly filled with sailors and pilots heading for battle stations, with no idea of what was going to happen.

If we are there to maintain peace and prosparity and we are fired upon, it will be considered a declaration of war again the Pure Socialist Holy Empire of Shazbotdom and Her Colonies. And if that takes place, the full force (approximatly 95,184,650) of the Pure Socialist Holy Empire will be marching down the streets of Kilani and a new nation will be annexed into the Empire. I doubt the people of your nation would want their government to give up their nation in a futile war. The MSF Beckford and the MSF Blagraland were repositioning themselves toward a geosencranis orbit above the nations of Kilani and Rodenka. The marines were being transported via a multitude of AC-01's and AC-02's. The two ships were preparing for al out war, their defensive systems were being prepared as the Starfury-class sub-orbital fighters were being armed with railgun bolts and their fusion missiles. Each was getting 200 railgun bolts and 8 Fusion Missiles each, except for the SA-32A which carries 10 Fusion Missiles. There would be a total of 17,000 sub orbital fighters that would be available for use with this operation.

The Beckford and Blagraland were running at half-speed during the transfer of all the different personell. It would take a total of 51 hours to complete the transaction and the movement of the orbit for the ship to it's designated location. Their designated location would put it approximatly over the capital city of Rodenka, where it will then transfer troops down via the AC-01's, AC-02's, and DropPods available on the two ships. Time is ticking.

Never said you number-wanked. I just assumed you'd be transporting your forces by sea.

And as for your 95 million troops? Good luck moving them in concert. The logistics for a force that size are incredibly hard to maintain. The army would collapse just trying to move.

"Comrade President, we have reports of two large sub-orbital craft moving towards the Rodenkan capital. They reportedly carry troops from the Empire of Shazbotdom. We have deployed the bulk of our airforce to the Rodenkan front in order to face the new threat that these craft will represent. However, we do not have enough high explosives to effectively damage the craft as of now. Nor are our fighters yet in range."

Lorenov thought for a moment. Time was running out. His forces would eventually have to clash with the Shazbot troops, so a decleration of war was inevitable.

"If they insist on putting themselves in harms way, then we will respond in kind. Prepare for high atmospeheric nuclear burst above the Rodenkan capital and the enemy airships."

There was a collective gasp from the military advisors.

"You mean we are going nuclear?"

"We have no choice. If we are to defeat this new enemy, we must strike now while they are still relatively weak. We must destroy his capibility to launch attacks and we must do it now! As soon as the ships are over the Rodenkan capital, we will launch our strike."

OOC: PLease explain to me how you can detect nuclear missiles being prepped underground in MISSILE SILOS. From orbit all you can see is a steel slab, IF it's not camoflauged. Nor can you detect silos on radar. Maybe, if you had thermal maging, you could detect them. Maybe. And even if you knew where they were you could not tell if they were being prepped or not. There's nothing to prep. People do routine maintence on the things. When the go-code goes through, they ignite their engines and launch. I call GodMod here.

Unless of course you can explain that. Otherwise, I'm kicking you out of my RP. With ROdenka's blessing .I've already talked to him about this. The Emperor frowned as he read a recently delivered report about the war currently going on in Rodenka. It appeared many nations had ganged up on the 'liberating' army. In his eyes, the defending nation was pretty much run by a tinpot, useless dictator holding onto power without really doing much with it. Someone unfit to lead.

However, he couldn't just go charging in like a bull in a china shop and send good men to their deaths on foreign soil without some kind of intelligence gathering, and justification plan.

Turning to his Foreign Affairs advisor, the Emperor passed him back the report. "I shall send a personal letter to the nation of Kilani for now. And I shall also give my orders to the Imperial Intelligence Service. That is all."

The young military officer saluted sharply, before leaving the room. Now Anton IV was alone, and able to get on with work...

The People's Oligarchic Republic has chosen to aid its comrades in Kilani against the fascist dictators and capitalists so unwisely choosing to battle them. As the People's Representative for Military Affairs, I formally call upon all nations aiding the capitalist monarchists of Rodenka to back down, else the full might of Devlyn's armies will soon be marching victorious through the streets.

~ Oligarch Wládislaw Kupcenyi

Devlyn was mobilizing.

Already, so soon after the first ships had been constructed, they were preparing to sail off to war, carrying their cargo of destruction. Dozens of ships were being prepared for launch from Herzna, or Gdánsk as it had once been known; the great military forces of the DPO were preparing to march off to Rodenka to liberate them from their fascist-capitalist rulers and aid fellow forces of socialism and democracy. At least if one believed the propaganda.

The DPO was a highly democratic country, of course. Citizens elected the oligarchs and the assemblies, and were even allowed to form assemblies of their own. But the education and propaganda was inescapable. Devlyn was part of a new world socialist order, and a good part of that included anticapitalist propaganda. Always had according to some. Perhaps they were right, but no-one remembered the names of Stalin, Lenin, and other former dictators who had advocated the same thing. Their names were simply not taught and not remembered.

The incident in Rodenka had catapulted the DPO into a nationalistic frenzy. Citizens, briefed on the situation by the news—which could hardly be said to be government-controlled, as the People's Assembly decided upon that anyway—held torchlit parades and rallies, calling for Devlynian intervention in Rodenka and support for Kilani.

Finally, with Oligarch Kupcenyi's proclamation, the people had their wish. Demagogues cheered and the people cheered with them. Cannons spit their shells into the air, their voices echoing. Devlyn was finally getting involved...

Following that communication, a Hercules C-130J CMk5 took off from a MelekTaus airbase. Inside were eight Imperial Marine Commandos, the official Special Forces branch of the MelekTaus Maritime Forces. They were armed with M16s, Berretta 9mm pistols, supplies for 9 days, camping equipment, night vision goggles, standard Combat Soldier 95 BDUs, flight helmet, standard MelekTaus Marine issue parachute gear and all other manner of special forces equipment.

Within the matter of a few hours, the Hercules slowly aproached Rodenka lands, near to the border of Kilani. It was still outside of their airspce, however, and was flying at 32,000 ft. It was then that the 8 Commandos were pushed out of the aircraft, in HAHO gear and formation, prachuting from a good distance away from Rodenka lands, silently and swiftly.

After some time in descent, the 8 man squad landed about 50 miles away from the battle waging on the highway, quickly grabbing their parachute gear and collecting themselves together. Scanning the area for enemy activity, the group began a quick march out of the vacinity, to reduce the likelyhood of being detected, and caught. Far better to flee the scene than hunker down...

[ooc:] Yes, that is a significant personnel contribution. Considering that I'm a nation of 2,000 million using about 4-5 million of that total, it's less of a stretch than Shaz's 3,131 million with a 95 million army.

As for the vehicles: A lot of them are basically just improved Soviet-era designs, so expect a lot of them to break down easily or otherwise malfunction. But that's the fun of RPing a socialist nation though. ;)

We are unable to send any other forces to the area. As a side note, we also refuse to engage in hostilities with West Corinthia unless they attack our forces. We're not here to start wars against peace keepers unless they get in the way of us restoring some form of democracy to Rodenka. As a further note, if any of the Coalition forces attempt to set up a 'puppet' nation, including you, we will, and I mean WILL, come down on the offending nation with nuclear fire and artillary.... You have been warned to keep to the mission objective.

SECRET IC:
A multitide of doors opened up on the ventral hull of the MSF Beckford. Several drop pods then fell out the holes. They held roughly 40 fire teams from the Marine "Black Ops" Special Operations division. They moved slowly toward the atmosphere, at roughly 2km per hour. In one of the drop pods, Captain Gregory Johnson was preparing his XR-01 BattleRifle. There was just enough room for him to move his arms a little and make sure that his weapons were secure before he hit the atmosphere.

Just as he got done making sure that his weapon was prepped, there was a sudden jolt. It started to fell like he was in a freefall. He looked in front of him at the readout on the monitor built into the front hatch of the drop pod, it stated that he was now going at over 200kmph. He pushed a button and it took a reading of the area around the pod, he was in the atmosphere all right. In roughly 2 minutes the shute would deploy and he would float down right outside the Captial of Rodenka. He pushed a button and then spoke into the intercom to the Beckford.

Johnson: "Beckford, are our orders the same as they were when we left?"

Ship's Comm: "Negatory. Orders are to protect any innocent civilians from enemy fire. We will send down more troops soon, but set up a perimiter around residential area's and make sure that no military vehicles enter them. We want civlian casualties down to a minimum."

Johnson: "Rodger that. Relay orders to the monitors in all the Drop Pods."

Comm: "Rodger that."

"Sir, we're picking up a large formation of Kilani planes on radar." a radioman yelled to Admiral Gregoriy, aboard the WCN Carrier Motherland.

"Heading for Rodenka? A strike force?" the Admiral inquired.

"I don't think so...wouldn't they go straight for the mainland?"

"Perhaps." the Admiral thought for a moment. Suddenly the command deck printer started printing a message from the capital. Admiral Gregoriy ran over to get it and quickly scanned the document. "My god." he whispered.

"Sir?"

"Scramble fighters. We're at war."

Alarms sounded as the fleet went to full readiness.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Return to base, I repeat, return to base, over." the radio flickered on the lead Leopard II tank.
"What the hell is this about?" the tank commander asked.
"Kilani just declared war on us. Having forces in the capital won't stop them from attacking at this point. Turn around and high-tail it back to base."
"Roger."
Herzna, Devlynian Poland. 0530 hours
The DPO Republican Navy (RDAN) was setting sail. Behind the rising sun, illuminating everything with a liquid red-gold glare, hundreds of ships were leaving port, nearly a thousand of them. All bore the proud flags of the DPO, fluttering bravely in the wind.
The mighty 2nd and 4th Fleets moved in a diamond-shaped formation, at the centre of which the twin mighty Dreadnaughts sailed, RDIS Slovakia and Lithuania, the sun glinting off their armor and illuminating them in millions of colors. Carriers and transport ships were behind the capital ships, and a pair of Galleons (RDIS Devlynia and Prehevo) flanked the dreadnaughts, accompanied by ubiquitous air defense vessels. Beyond those were battleships and battlecruisers, more and more logistical ships, and finally a perimeter of minor surface combatants making up the outer edge. Below the waves moved scores of submarines, packed with deadly weaponry for dealing significant amounts of death to enemy forces.
CAP patrols swept the skies as patrol boats darted ahead of the fleet, communicating with the capital ships on anything they found. The DPO war machine was on the move with deadly efficiency...
It was some thirty hours' sail to the Rodenkan coast, but the Devlynian forces were fully prepared to do what they had to do. This involved a full-scale amphibious invasion, with the ships providing support for the land invasion force and the airwing providing the aerial support... The outdated monarchist-fascist ideology had passed its time. And now its days were numbered.
Rodenkan Coast
Over three hundred planes, Lu-12 Canaries and Gli-76 VTOL craft, began an attack run on the Corinthian Fleet. Lu-45 HAwks are waiting to pounce o nany enemy aircraft.
There is a staggered array of fire from the planes, and within moments over three hundred air-to-surface missiles are headed for the Corinithian's outer screen of destroyers.
The Kilani Battleships, missile cruisers, and it's superdreadnaught change course to intercept, big guns swinging into position.
OOC: Hmmmm, 300 missiles to 15 destroyers makes...20 missiles to a ship. I'm about to lose some ships.:eek:
IC: The destroyers' anti-missile chain guns were ready for the attack and they locked onto the heat signals of missiles and fired. Several missiles were hit and exploded in mid-air, but the sheer number was too overwhelming.
A missile smashed into the upper deck of a destroyer in a fireball. The front end of the ship broke off as the rear deck was struck. Another missile hit the radar mast. Then a missile hit the magazines and the ship moaned and split in half. Men poured into the water, many with serious burns. Others had been killed by missile strikes. Similar scenes were occuring with the other destroyers on the line.
The carriers were backed well away from all this. "Get us out of here. Send up all fighters and take us to full speed away from here." the admiral shouted.
"Yes, sir." the navigator plotted a new course and sent it to the engine room.
As the carriers headed away from the battle the missile frigates were ordered to hold their ground and target enemy aircraft. The radar was full of red blips. In other words plenty to target. The frigates locked on to enemy signals and began firing anti-air missiles.
Meanwhile 200 West Corinthian aircraft were in the air. 150 Tornado WC-IDS and 50 Saab WC-Gripens. As the pilots looked down at the burning wreckage of recently destroyed destroyers, they were filled with rage and a new sense of nationalism. "All units." the leader of the air group stated over his radio. "Weapons free, engage."
"Incoming missiles! All units, evasive action!"
The planes broke off into groups, planes spiraling both down and up to avoid incoming missiles. Others blew countermeasures. The sky was soon filled wiht blossoms of fire as missiles either missed and exploded, or found their targets. There were screams over the radio and boards radar boards begin to show planes dropping out of the sky. However, they also pick up distress beacons from the ejection seats.
Thrity-seven planes have been knocked from the sky
The Lu-45s pick up the enemy aircraft, "Engage!"
Two hundred Lu-45s dive into the fray, engaging the enemy aircraft at extreme range with missiles.
The attack craft attempt to reform and launc hanother strike, this time on the missile frigates.
In the meantime, the capital ships of the fleet are churning after the retreating Corinthians at full speed.
The West Corinthian Tornadoes each carry two long range air-to-air missiles. Seeing the Lu-45s engage them from very long-range, they return fire before breaking formation to dispense countermeasures for the incoming missiles. Kilani missiles quickly close the gap, knocking out several planes that were too slow to break formation. 11 blips disappear from the radar screen.
"Dammit!" Admiral Sasha Petrov yelled from te command deck of WCN Motherland. "I've got every fighter and every ship I've got fighting out there. Is there no way to get more aid?"
"The Czar ordered us to churn home at full speed to regroup. They are sending a larger force of vessels to intercept us and join up with us."
"This battle will be over long before then. Our fates will have been sealed."
"Have you considered...surrender?"
"How dare you!" the admiral glared at his messenger. "I would never consider such a dastardly thing." He composed himself and focused. "They're chasing us with their capital ships. All we have that isn't already engaged are the submarines. Send them to attack the capital ships."
"Yes, sir."
The six West Corinthian attack submarines positioned themselves between their own carriers and the advancing Kilanis. Then they shut down all non-vital systems and went invisible, waiting for their prey.
The return fire is somewhat less effective, as eight Kilani planes are tumbled from the sky, five of the piltos ejecting. The Lu-45s continue their attack, firing shorter range missiles as they close in.
The capital ships are arranged in a box formation, with several destroyers and frigates on the outside and the cruisers and battleships and finally the superdreadnaught on the inside.
SCENE: On the Ground
It's been several hours since the SpecOps troops landed. They were scouting out area's where the AC-01's and AC-02's could land the troops for the civilian protection mission. They had turned on their encrypted beacons so the ship could keep track of where they were on the suface. They spotted an area to the north of their current position (roughly 3km) that could be used to land the Warthog's and troops that would accompany the SpecOps into the heart of the captial city, to the civilian quarters. A total of 15,000 troops were to be landed (this included the SpecOps already on the ground) and they were to quarentine the largest Civilian area that they could find. The 2 fire teams started on their trek to the north, toward the clearing.
SCENE: MSF Beckford
The situation room on deck 5 was tracking the troop movements on the surface. They were using sensors and satelites to track all the groups in the area's movements near the boarder. A small group of green dots at the center of the map on the computer screen was the small SpecOps group that was landed a short time ago. By estimations it would take them roughly one and a half hours to reach the LZ and scout it out for any traps and/or enemy troops. Although they were far enough in the nation that the crew in the situation room figured that there wouldn't be any resistance to speak of.
From: Captain Anthony Keys
A short time ago, two fire teams of five people each were deployed, from the MSF Beckford, into the Nation of Rodenka. While these troops are in a nation that is being currently illegally siezed by a capitalist war machine, they have been re-tasked with two new objectives. The first objective is to clear a landing zone for more troops to land, and the second objective is to keep civilian casualites down to a minimum. We have picked out roughly 5 communities that we will, in a term, adopt. We will supply the civilians with food and medical supplies as well as treat their wounded. We ask that nobody approach these civilian zones with any military technology and/or troops as they are, and will be, considered "safe zones" and "neutral territory" by the laws of the United Nations. If any nations blatantly attacks the SpecOps troops of Shazbotdom and/or the innocent civilians within these 5 zones, there will be repirations paid to the families of the diceased, weather they be civilians of the Nation of Rodenka, or Marines from the Pure Socialist Holy Empire of Shazbotdom.
~ Some 400 km off the Rodenkan Coast ~
The DPO fleet was closing. They were about to see some action, and they knew it.
"Sitrep!" an officer's voice barked.
"We have West Corinthian forces engaging Kilani ships at T minus thirty minutes, no clear outcome as yet."
"Let's just say there will be... soon!" The same barking voice, which tended to remind one of a highly irritable Pekingese, informed the XO without words that he was to salute, which he did, and say "Yes, sah!", which he did as well, then broadcasting the orders to the rest of the DPO naval forces.
"All right everyone, this is it!"
Cheering.
"We're going to engage the capitalists on my mark one. On mark two, begin firing anti-shipping missiles. Understood?"
"Yes, sir!"
"Good. Mark one."
The forty 762mm guns and fifty 635mm guns the Dreadnaughts and Galleons carried between them blazed into glorious song, weaving a tapestry of destruction as ninety massive shells arched through the sky, their rocket assists kicking up and propelling them into West Corinthian ships. It was followed by another volley of shells, in perfect unison, all the guns bringing swift destruction to the enemy.
"Mark two."
A total of 1,200 ASROC-style missile-launched torpedoes were forcibly spit from the vertical launch systems of the ships, sea-skimming at Mach 2.5 until some 50 km from the fleet, when they dropped their torpedoes into the ocean. The torps began to supercavitate, rocketing along at 250 knots towards ships, submarines, whatever else was in range.
Meanwhile, the RDAN continued to move inexorably closer to Rodenka, preparing to launch missiles towards the pre-selected military targets within the country.
Official DPO Proclamation
We will never bow down to fascists and the vile lackeys who lick their boots. By attacking the Kilani fleet and giving aid to the monarchists of Rodenka, you have proven yourself a hostile power and must face the full might of the People's Oligarchy. Perhaps it would be wiser for you to surrender now before the victorious forces of socialism march down your streets in full dress and liberate your oppressed citizens from their filthy, elitist rulers.
~ The Oligarchs and People of Devlyn
2nd Revolutionary Council, New Order Congress, Devlynia
The massive DPO war armada continued to move towards Rodenka, coming closer each minute...RDAF TI.19 Hawks—the slightly modified Devlynian versions of the Lu-45s, with marginally increased payloads and equall marginally slower speeds—and TI.10 Fulcrums, more modernized MiG-35s—were beginning to circle above the fleet, while the TI.20 redesignated Black Mariah STOVLs lifted in clouds from the Dreadnoughts, readying their air-to-air missiles as a measure against Rodenkan planes.
Admiral Christoph Salzung watched all this from the bridge of the Lithuania, capital ship of the 4th Fleet. Turning to his XO, he asked, "Are any more of those fools challenging the seas?"
"Yes, sir. Rodenkan ships have set out now, almost a hundred of them."
Salzung stroked his chin thoughtfully. "We're more likely to gain victory with a pre-emptive strike, to wipe them out before they realise we're attacking... Order the fleet to attack."
"Yes, sir."
This time a larger strike would be needed to wipe out the larger Rodenkan fleet. However, the RDAN was equal to the challenge. The four massive capital ships opened up with their shells: the forty 762mm guns in chorus with the forty-eight 635mm guns, and now sixteen 460mm guns and twenty-four 305mm railguns. Volley after volley exploded from the barrels, accompanied by rounds from the one hundred and forty-four 406mm coil guns of the battleships, even as the DPO closed in.
Missiles now broke into the deafening chorus of destruction. The Missile Ships opened up with a total of 2,560 long range surface-to-surface missiles, fitted with powerful penetration warheads to bore into large ships like aircraft carriers and battleships. Hundreds of shells and missiles sped towards the Rodenkan fleet, death carried on the wind, as ballistic missile submarines began to surface for their real task: the destruction of Rodenkan military bases, paving the way for the DPO Marines to march triumphantly into the country and throw out the oppressors, establishing true freedom...
Captain Johnson walked up to the convoy. He let his firearm drop to the side of him as his men knelt down and looked around, just in case something snuck up on them. He looked at the man who spoke to him, wondering if he should be warry or if he should shoulder his firearm.
Johnson: "I'm Captain Johnson of the Marine Corps of the Pure Socialist Holy Empire of Shazbotdom. We are here as a peacekeeping force and we will only to defend the civlians of your nation. We do not wish to get into this skirmish between your two nation. I ask that you point us toward the largest civlian cooridoor in the capital so that we can set up a checkpoint and a landing zone for our forces to use."
Johnson then motioned to his troops to prepare to move out. One of the troops was on his radio and his GPS attempting to triangulate a spot in which the ship could send down the AC-01's and AC-02's to land the rest of the troops. The sergent looked over at Johnson and motioned at him. Johnson then walked over and looked at the GPS as the Sergent talked to him.
Sergent: "From what i can tell, there's a large park in the center of this residential district. If we can get to that district, we can set up a makeshift airport to land whatever troops and supplies we need to begin the defence of this specific residential area. We would be able to set up checkpoints within a matter of a few hours."
They would move in as soon as possible to drop in the marines and supplies that was requested by the fire teams for the blockades and entry checkpoints through the civilian areas of the Capital City. Some of the brand new XR-07 Stationary Guns were being brought in to man the blockades and entry checkpoints that would be at every road entering a civilian living area.
The general look of civilian ID's was known in the Marine Corps. Most nations used the same format or a slight variant of it and the Marines were trained to recognize these different variants of ID's. The training would help them to determine which ID's were fake and which ones were real so that they could let only civilians into the specified area's and not military personell of the invading nations.
SCENE: Inside the MSF Blagraland
The Captain of the ship was watching the radar and satelite imagry to make sure that there would be no attack against their ship He raised the aleart level to gold and had the defensive guns sweeping side to side and up and down, looking for incomming missiles. The Captain had recieved word from the Emperor that intelligence gathered would indicate that there would be little if no attack upon the Marines and the Blagraland due to their UN Status and their Status as a Peacekeeping force bent on the protection of a civilian populace.
The Parliament hadn't decided if it would be worthy to send more than 10,000 troops into the nation to defend the civilians so they were staying with the orriginal pland of 10,000. It was only a few division of the SpecOps and Marines that would be placed down in the capital city for the defence of the populus. 3 Star General Nicole Randal was put in charge of the groups that were on the surface, she was to be stationed in a small tent at the zone in which the AC Aircraft were to make the temporary base of operation for this mission. Barracks, eating area's and mission briefing rooms were amoungst the tents that were loaded into some of the AC-02's. It would take a total of 10 trips for all the AC Aircraft before the entirity of the forces were to be deployed in the Capital City of Urlsburg.
Message to Admiral-Bell
Your support is greatly appreciated and earnestly accpeted. We will show these Communist peasents what it is to oppose the free world.
Rodenka:
We are a socialist country. If you identify your enemies to be of our breed, you risk turnind us. We fight for justice, not ideology.
Foreign minister of Admiral-Bell
At sea:
The fleet arrived in Rodenkan waters. The admiral in command on the Republic gave the order: "Begin landing troops."
On land:
They landed at Nardhalm, hopefully out of the way, and began a long march. The column moved with AA and heavy tanks up front. Then closely followed by anti-infantry vehicles, then the infantry itself. Then lastly were the cruise missiles, artillary, and more anti-Air. Highway 2 will soon be reinforced.
In the Air:
At all times there were fighters in the air, at least 100. AWACS patrolled, hunting for incomming attack. Helicopters and attack planes were preparing to attack enemy positions.
Rodenka:
We are reinforcing highway 2, where you seem to be having some difficulty. We would also liketo borrow 5 tanker planes as we wish to bring in a long range bomber and reccon run.
The August Revolution
The superdreadnaught was moving at top speed when there was a shouted warning from the sonar office, "Torpedoes in the water! I count over twenty-four of them!"
"Evasive action! Launch counter-measures! All hands, brace for impact!"
The massive ship began a turn, trying to avoic the incoming torpedoes. Similtaneously, it dumped noise-makers into the water, hoping to divertthe incoming torpedoes. There was a breathless moment as the crew waited for the expected explosion.
Three of the torpedoes just missed, sliding by the massive hull. Four others exploded harmlessly againts counter-measures. The other17 impacted at various points on the super-dreadnaught's hull, two near the main drive shaft.
The ship was rocked by the massive explosions. The admiral picked himself up, bracing himself on the conn. "Report!"
The damage control officer was nursing a nasty gash on his head, but he began speaking as reports started coming in, "Hull integrity has held for the most part. One hull breach forward. Damage control crews are evacuatingthe area and sealing it off. We've lost 20% manuverability...Drive system has been slightly damaged. Speed has been reduced by 10%. We're in decent shape, sir."
The admiral growled, "Get those submarines before they fire another volley!"
Destroyers were already combing the area, pinging for the submarines. Several ASWAC were zipping back and forth overhead.
The Lithuania, 4th and 6th Combined Fleet Groups
"Sir, an Admiral-Bell fleet has arrived as well."
Admiral Salzung laughed lightly. "I see... The fools, do they not realise that the DPO Navy has enough firepower to blast Rodenka to hell and back?"
"But sir!" The XO interrupts in a panic. "As far as we can tell this fleet has over a thousand vessels, including thirty aircraft carriers."
"Show me those screens." Salzung strode imperiously over to the tactical displays along the wall and pushed aside some of the officers, scanning the displays himself. "Most of these look like small surface combatants—patrol boats and the like. Not a single Dreadnaught or equivalent vessel among them."
"Sir..."
"Direct all firepower to the Admiral-Bell fleet on mark one. On mark two, get those Arsenals on it with the Annuvins. On mark three, everyone else begin firing the Gliendors. Understood?"
The liaison officers nodded hastily and began connecting to the proper channels, sending out the orders via link to the rest of the massive war armada. Almost too quickly, Salzung spoke.
"Mark one!"
Two hundred and seventy-two large calibre shells (an assortment of 762mm, 635mm, 460mm, 406mm coilguns, 305mm railguns) burst from the turrets of the capital ships, the initial volley fired in perfect unison. A second and third volley followed, the recoil rocking the massive ships as Salzung gave another shout.
"Mark two!"
The thirty Missile Ships carried 1,280 vertical launch tubes each, and each one fired in unison all of its Annuvin SSMs, or a total of 38,400 missiles, which arched through the sky at Mach 4—velocities too high for a surface-to-air missile to intercept. The autoreload mechanisms began working almost immediately, a second group of missiles sliding into the launch tubes as the DPO Navy watched the streaks of fire rocketing into the sky, then turning downwards at the uppermost point of their arcs and descending upon the Admiral-Bell fleet with a projected terminal velocity of Mach 13.
"Mark three!"
If it was even necessary by now, the remainder of the ships opened fire, launching a total of 32,768 Gilendor SSMs. These missiles popped up just to give the fleet clearance, then entered stage two, hugging the sea at Mach 2.4 to confuse IR sensors and giving out almost no radar signature, traveling as they were at fifteen metres above sea level. At some 30 kilometers from their targets, the missiles dropped their real armament, a single 864mm torpedo, which entered the water and began to supercavitate, hitting 200 knots rapidly and making the waters around the Admiral-Bell fleet highly dangerous. While the torpedoes were difficult to maneuver, each one carried a highly potent proximity blast, which could rip through even heavily armored hulls and put a pretty big hole below a Dreadnaught's waterline, causing at least some damage.
Meanwhile, the discarded metal exoskeletons of the SSMs switched on electronics jamming through the guidance in the nose, confusing enemy systems into thinking each was an active missile while at the same time preventing a successful lock and jamming the targeting and detection systems of the ships and any aircraft that happened to be on combat air patrol.
With the reloads, the DPO Navy was capable of loosing several more volleys like this one, although Admiral Salzung strongly suspected that it wouldn't be necessary.
Meanwhile, the missile submarines began preparing to launch their missiles towards the preselected targets within Rodenka. ~
Prince William, Admiral Augustine, and General's Trotski and Sherman watched the growing conflict between Rodenka and Kilani on a private channel. The fighting was fierce. The Prince and the Military men watched grimly as West Corinthian ships were torn to shreads under the onslaught of Devlyn ships.
More than anything, the Prince was concerned about the status of the West Corinthian forces. West Corinthia was very close to the Principality. They were also allies.
"I can't believe..." Prince William started, "that they're taking so much of a beating out there."
"This could turn out to be a problem for us," replied General Sherman, who watched as a fighter was blown out of the sky.
"Yes, that makes sense," added Admiral Augustine. "If West Corinthia falls, there could be a foreign puppet government put in their place."
General Trotski started. "Indeed that is not advisable. The status quo need not be changed.
"Agreed." finished Prince William.
There was silence. The only noise came from the television set where sounds of explosions and gunfire penetrated the silence. Then the Prince started again.
"This all started because a socialist state didn't like the way the new Rodenkan governent was running things. In my opinion, that's a pretty bad reason to go to war."
"We're pretty socialist ourselves," quipped General Trotski.
"Granted, but we've never taken out a government simply because we didn't like the way it was run. Machinist had to go because they attempted to use children as hostages in order to achieve their dark ends. OA Boy Scouts had to go because their dictator was a religious nut who declared war on every country that was 'against the bible.'
"But this is different. Who is Kilani to say that putting power in the hands of a monarch isn't the right course of action for Rodenka? It may have been beneficial, but Kilani never let the nation exist for a while in its new state for the people to respond to their new existance."
"Exactly!" put in Admiral Augustine. "They call themselves a democratic state, but they never once considered what the people of another nation might think. Even if their democracy was dismantled, there are other ways for a people to show their discontent."
"Like protests and rioting." said a stone-faced General Trotski.
"At which point would be the opportune time for a foreign country to step in."
The prince shook his head. "This is beginning to spiral out of control. The original reason for this war is being forgotten. Already, countries that had nothing to do with the original conflict are going to war against each other."
"Somebody may have to pay the price for this," said Sherman.
"It looks like that may end up being West Corinthia." relied Augustine.
Prince William lept to his feet.
"Gentlemen, such a scenerio is absolutely intolerable. Our two nations have had our disagreements before, but they never tried to destroy us! If this war is taken back to West Corinthia, it could destablize the region in ways that we couldn't comprehend! Civil war, rebellion, terrorism: right in our own backyard!
"We cannot simply ignore that, simply because it's in a foreign country! Sooner or later the problems there with cause us problems here! In OUR country!"
The military men nodded in response.
"Gentlemen!"
The Military leaders were on their feet.
"We are going to assist West Corinthia in this war! General Sherman! Mobilize the Air Fleets!"
"Yes sir!" Sherman saluted and left the office.
"Admiral Augustine! Get Fleet Admiral Jacob Nields on the line, and tell him to deploy the 2nd Fleet!"
"As you wish sir!" Augustine bowed and left.
"And General Trotski-"
"I will prepare two Army Groups for deployment. They will be placed under my direct command." By the tone of Trotski's voice it sounded like his decision was final.
"...Very well General. Make it happen."
"By your command, Your Majesty." Trotshi saluted, turned on his heels and walked out of the office. A true military man.
Prince William, buzzed his secretary.
"Get me Czar Kotev on the line immediately!"
The Czar was in a fury. He paced across his throne room, trailed by many messengers and attendants trying to get his attention. "We did not seek war." he shouted. "We took no aggressive action. I tried to remain neutral!"
"Sir, shall we respond to the attack? Perhaps a small-scale bombing run over some of the larger ships launched from the mainland?" a messenger suggested.
"No!" Czar Kotov yelled. "The world must not see us as weak. We shall deploy a grand armada immediately. Sure, we lost a small flotilla of destroyers, well, we shall respond in force!"
"To war!" Roman Kostyanov shouted from the other end of the gold-adorned meeting table. "Our honor as a country demands it!" he raised a glass of wine and downed it in one gulp.
"Yes!" the Czar thought a moment. "Yes! To war! Send the 1st and 2nd armadas."
"That's more than half the fleet!" a messenger protested.
"We can always buy more. Deploy them now!" the Czar finally stopped pacing and sat on his throne.
"Sire, Wilhelmsborough is on the line."
"Patch them through." the Czar declared.
After the Czar had spoken new orders were telegrammed to the 1st and 2nd Armadas. They were to head for the Rodenkan coast at full speed and reinforce the carriers that had survived the battle. 200 guided-missile frigates, 4 carriers, 100 destroyers, 50 attack submarines, 30 heavy battleships, 60 cruisers, and supporting aircraft all departed the West Corinthian coast and headed for the battlezone.
More ground troops and armor were being deployed to support the West Corinthian ground forces already within Rodenka. Chief among them were West Corinthia's newest tanks and heavy armor. They were now fully entangled in the war. As of yet the ground forces took no action and stayed beyond the range of Kilani forces.
Soon they would deploy to protect the Rodenkan capital...
OOC: where is your fleet Devlyn?
"My god!" shouted the radar operator.
"What." shouted the officer on deck.
"We're doomed," wailed the operator.
"No we're not. comm, call all battleships and cruiser, and missile ships, tell them to load an fire nuclear arsenal in an artillary and cruise missile disruption pattern."
The order was recieved from commander, and all ships opened up with tactical artillary. Due to the uniformity of the enemy firing pattern, the explosions could be timed perfectly.
The subs, seeing the massive number of torpedoes, opened up with their nuclear arsenal, either destroying, or knocking off course, the enemy torpedoes.
59 shells survived the nukes, only 7 hit a target, sinking 2, and damaging 1 destroyer.
Of the cruise missiles 797 survived the nukes, the ship then fired AA fragmentation shells into the air, leaving 169, these sunk a battleship, 3 destroyers, 2 frigates, and 2 cruisers.
The torpedoes were left with one thousand of their number, planes deployed depth charges and anti-sub meassures against them, losing 17 transports.
Admiral Charles Baker yielded command to fleet Admiral Yohanna Mare.
"Send a request to Admiral-Bell for 6 super and 2 ultra dreadnaughts. And, throw in the super carrier to,. While your at that comm, Navigation, pull us out of enemy weapons range, we are running out of nukes."
All of the troops had been unloaded, 500,000 went up highway 2 300,000 up 1 and 4, and 400,000 up 3.
The Admiral and staff had decided to send an attack on the enemy fleet. All guns, 6 in. and up, fired 3 times. 2000 cruise missiles were lobbed at them, and a group of 2000 Seagulls, 750 A-10s, and 750 stealth attack helies took off.
The seagulls flew high, the A-10s, hugged the sea, 20 meters above it. The helis took midrange. It was payback time.
[ooc:] I'm about 400-500 kms from Rodenkan waters now. I don't think 155mm [6"] shells would have the kind of range to reach that, even with rocket assist. One would need at least 406mm [16"], or 305mm [12"] railgun slugs.
The [i]Lithuania, 2th and 4th Combined Fleet Groups
Admiral Salzung watched the tactical displays grimly. More fleets had been spotted on GPS, some of them quite large. The Admiral-Bell fleet had evaded the Devlynian attack by using nuclear weapons—which in the Admiral's eyes was a cowardly way out, merely prolonging the enemy fleet's short life by a few hours or less.
"The enemy has returned fire, sir."
Salzung's eyes narrowed, blood and anguish, and he regarded the XO steadily, a bitter smile playing about the corners of his eyes. "How many?"
"Several thousand cruise missiles and artillery shells..."
Salzung shrugged. "And that's all? That makes about two projectiles for every ship we have here. I'll leave it to the fleet's defense systems to deal with them."
And so they did.
Surface-to-air missiles rocketed from their batteries, targeting larger shells and cruise missiles. The SAMs exploded among the missile salvo, blowing many of the missiles into wreckage and sending others to the bottom of the sea. The electromagnetic countermeasures of the fleet switched on next; radar jamming sent the remainder of the missiles to the seafloor, their electronics scrambled. Only a few shells were left, and the close-in weapons systems of the fleet put up a screen of bullets, ripping several of them apart. Nonetheless, several shells impacted.
One of the light cruisers was hit by a 305mm shell in the main magazine. Fires ripped the deck as it exploded, taking with it several hundred missiles. The ship began to list and then sink to the bottom. Another shell hit a tanker, sending up a massive explosion that sent several fast attack boats and a destroyer to their doom.
SAM launchers began firing the Macabean Praetorian SAMs now towards the incoming planes, a total of 6,480 long-range surface to air missiles targeting the aircrafts, as Sea Hawks, Interceptors, and Black Mariahs began taking off in droves to counter the aerial attack, each armed with a formidable array of air-to-air missiles. Soon a total of eight wings of aircraft were in the air as Chimaeras provided much-needed AWAC support. TI.129 Acheronn Gunships swirled through the air as well, following on the wave of aircraft, itself coming hard on the heels of the missile barrage.
Death was truly on the air.
Rodenkan Armada, bridge of the battleship RNS Kaiser, flagship of the Fleet
Admiral Baron Gustaf von Seeberg stood on the bridge, listening to the churning of the engines as the mighty fleet struck out across the ocean. Already, his strike planes were in the air, awaiting the order to begin their attack. Suddenly, a cry of alarm burst from an operator.
"Sir! We have multiple incoming enemy missles, I can't even begin to track them all!"
"Evasive action! Return fire!"
The battleships, arrayed protectively around the carriers, began a long turn, attempting to throw off the enemy missles as the destroyers and cruisers outside the fleet throw up flares, missles, and flak in an attempt to halt the oncoming enemy fire.
Witha tremoundous crash, one of the giant shells fire by the enemy fleet crashed into the sea next to the Kaiser sending a wall of spray over the decks of the ship.
"Return fire, damn you!"
Even as the enemy missles came on, the Rodenkan ships responded. Ship-to-ship missles fired from the crusiers and battleships, over 2,921 TASMs, accomapnied by the salvos of the battleships 16 and 18 inch guns.
But while the brave men an dwomen fo the fleet returned fire against the enemy, they were doomed. Despite countermeasures, enemy fire was proving deadly. 6 destroyers were sunk by direct hits from ship-to-ship missles, and a further 5 damaged. The proud batttleship Seestadt, named for it's city of birth, was struck amidships by enemy shells, massive explosions ripping into the forward magazines as the battleship began to settle into the cold ocean.
Overhead, the Lu-45s steaked onwards towards the enemy fleet, released by the Admiral's orders to hit back at the enemy. 600 aircraft had been released, leaving 250 to defend the fleet. a little over 400 of the attackers were armed with air-to-surface missle,s while the remaining 200 had been equipped for air-to-air combat and flew in the canguard of the mighty air attack. Soon, they could strike back.
Attack Subamrine Swordfish, ahead of the Rodenkan Fleet
The crew of the sub were tense. They had heard little of the battle that must surely be raging overhead, but something must be going on. Slowly, slowly, they moved forward, atttempting to seek out an enemy vessel. Silence. Then suddenly, contact. A surfaced enemy submarine, far forward. THe captain nods, and the crew prepares their first shot of the war.
Moments later, 2 torpedoes speed through the water towards the enemy sub, the crew of the Swordfish waiting once more.
Highway 2, the town of Südbrücke
The border guards were continuing their retreat. here, they would cross across one fo the few bridges across ths gorge, then destroy it. Even as they fell back, units of the 13th Royal Alpine Brigade were digging in across the bridge, sighting weapons as they prepared to defend their homeland.
Frightened civilians joined the soldiers, streaming across the bridge, northwards towards relative safety.
They make the fight through Südbrücke to the bridge a hard one, fighting house-to-house towards the vital bridge. Even as they fall back further, the last of the fleeing civilians are hurried across by the Alpine troops on the other side. Then, with a deafening roar, the bridge explodes, collapsing into the freezing, rushing river over 70 feet below. The Alpine troops begin to cheer, but are quieted by their officers. Across the remains of the bridge, the once proud 551st is reduced to barley 3 companies in strength and now with no place to go, the survivors raise their hands in surrender.
~ 2nd and 4th Combined Fleet Groups, outside Rodenkan waters
As the ships rolled ponderously closer, the one hundred and sixteen Ballistic Missile Submarines the two fleets carried between them slowly surfaced, unloading their cargo. Twenty of the submarines were armed with seventy-two K.42 Deathfire Incendiary missiles, each one capable of causing massive fires ripping and burning through almost everything. Twenty-six carried thirty K.76 shaped missiles; each one would spray the area with thousands or millions of submunitions and an assortment of mines. Thirty were armed with bunker buster missiles, capable of penetrating difficult targets. The remaining thirty carried nuclear missiles, but they had been ordered not to use them except in response to a similar attack.
The submarines fired their missiles. 1,440 incendiary missiles were fired in all; they were divided equally between known Rodenkan military bases and important bridges along the major highways, with the largest number (180) targeting the Rodenkan capitol buildings. Of the 780 total shaped missiles, 600 were divided between the Admiral-Bell troops marching up the mainland; their explosions would spray the troops with millions of anti-personnel mines, killing thousands. The remaining 180 were fired upon Rodenkan troops mobilising for battle, especially along the border with Kilani, and on Rodenkan cities wherein troops were known to reside.
The bunker buster missiles were meanwhile kept in reserve until the locations of bunkers and similar emplacements could be discovered.
Meanwhile, the ships of the fleet had detected the oncoming missile and artillery barrage from the Rodenkans, and preparations were swift as AA guns and SAMs were brought to bear upon the missiles and shells. The response was similar to that against the Admiral-Bell salvo, with close-in weapons systems spraying incoming missiles with bullets as ships rocked with the force of anti-air guns firing at shells. The few missiles that did manage to get through caused quite some damage. A brace of destroyers were hit, one rocking in the water and firing off its missile complement of 192 Annuvin SSMs at the Rodenkans [see above] before capsizing totally and disappearing beneath the waves; the other one listing lower, its crew evacuating as it limped towards the logistical ships. An aircraft carrier was also hit several times, but its sturdy flight deck withstood the impacts.
The ships were now coming closer, and returned fire, spraying the enemy ships with a salvo of 4,096 Eclipse SSMs, the missiles armed with heavy depleted uranium tips to penetrate through even the sturdiest battleship, before detonating their explosives and ripping a massive hole in the ship. However, the real punch came from the heavy guns, which began lobbing massive shells towards the enemy fleet—now including smaller shells such as 381mm from the battlecruisers as they entered range—for several volleys of over 300 shells.
Meanwhile, the remainder of the carrier-based STOVL Black Mariahs were taking off into the air, reinforcing the planes already massing there. The war would soon be taken into the air.
DRS Teheran, Tenerife Class Hunter-Killer Submarine
"We've been pinged!" yelled Vassily Kormoa wildly as klaxons began to go crazy, wailing with the news of incoming torps. Kormoa yelled not in panic, but in triumph. The Teheran's duty was to find, hunt, and kill ships. Submarines, surface ships... it mattered not. Among the hundreds of submarines in the RDAN, the Tenerife Class SSHs were among the most powerfully armed.
"Right. Who shot the bogeys?" The Captain strode over.
"Sir, we can't detect them... must be some kind of stealth submarine, or one moving fairly silently."
The crew shouted something along the lines of "Let's get 'em!" in unison and had to be placated by the Captain as the torps approached.
"Get some depth charges out there! We can't rejoice until after we've killed the bastards!" the Captain all but screamed at his crew. The response was immediate as a pair of depth charges hurtled towards the incoming torpedoes, destroying one outright. The other was still inbound, and the Captain began shouting loud enough to appear on enemy SONAR screens.
"Dive! Dive!"
The submarine descended rapidly into the deeps, releasing a further depth charge as it did. The remaining torpedo hit the depth charge, blowing up, and the Teheran continued on its way.
"Cut the engines... run silent!"
The nuclear engines shut down and the submarine was running on its backup turbines now in near-complete silence until they were close enough to detect the enemy sub.
"Torp them!"
Six torpedoes rocketed from the torpedo tubes, shooting upwards at 86 knots towards the submarine. The Teheran immediately reversed, sliding back down into the depths and turning off active sonar, effectively disappearing. It was a deadly type of cat-and-mouse game: the hunter and the hunted. It simply remained to be seen which role would be taken by whom. ~
"Ha!" shouted the 3rd AA brigade commander, "So now they start shooting."
he was staring a radar display. "Hit them with all our anti-missile power."
Similar orders were given by all of the AA brigades. All but 27 were taken down. 12 hit in a marching area, deploying mines. This would slow the advance however. Helicopters were requisitioned with mine-sweeping sleds attatched behind, The advance would continue later.
The air war was about to be conducted. The Admiral-Bell air squadron outnumbered the Devlyn forces, but there were no chances taken. all planes matched speed with the helicopters, they were the ones with the most anti- missile power. The planes now flew in groups of 5. 3 seagulls, 1 helicopters and A-10s with some helis and warthogs trailing. They were ready.
"Sir, we have multiple incoming contacts on our screens. Profile suggests that they ae ballistic missles."
"Begin counter missle fire, now!"
SAM batteries long the Rodenkan coast open fire knocking down many of the missles as they attempt to pierce their airspace. Unfortunately, a few managed to get through, hits being made on several military bases. On missle burst over the city of Essenburg. The resultng shower of explosives and mines caused a large number of civilian casualties, and some military.
The Rodenkan government's response is outrage. A statement is issued by the King, safe inside the bunkers deep beneath the royal palace.
"These cowardly attacks on our civilian population show that our opponets are willing to disregard the rules of warfare and the saftey on non-combatants. I call upon all Rodenkans to resist the invaders to the utmost of their capability!"
Troops continue to mobolised, heading down the highways and taking up positions along the coast, and in towns straddling the main highways.
Rodenkan Fleet
"We have more incoming rounds!"
"Return fire again and knock those damn things out of the sky."
Once again missle, flak and flares fill the air, knocking missles down and away. However, hits were scored on the picket screen, 3 destroyers taking hits and beginning to setlle, the crews hastily abandoning ship. One cruiser is anhilated in a shower of shelfire.
The missle tubes and large guns speak again, sending a shower of deadly missles back at enemy.
The mines had been cleared by helicopters and the routes were now clear, all columns were now within artillary range of enemy positions. The columns radied into Rodenkan positions: The cavlry is here, what do you need us to do?
The dogfight begins... now! All seagulls launched 2 AIM-132 missiles. Then, all planes braced for the return fire.
Lastly, the drednaughts had arrived. 2 Eternal Storm Class Super Dreadnought, 2 Dweladelfia Class Super Dreadnought Carriers, and 6 Overlord Class Trimaran Super Dreadnaughts. They launched an additional 100 B-1 bombers and 400 seagulls. The fleet is far better protected now.
I will be jumping ahead a few days, to when i have a foothold in the defenec of the civilian area's of the Capital City. If this is unwanted or considered GodModding, I will edit it on Wednesday in the afternon which is when i will be back in Grand Forks, ND (of where I live).
IC:
It's been several days since the Shazbotdom Forces arrived in Rodenka. There has been a total of Fifty Thousand assigned to the current task of defending civilians from any and all enemy attacks. There were barricades around civlian area's consisting of makeshift walls and gates, as well as Anti-Aircraft and Anti-Missile batteries stationed throughout the sector to protect civilian targets from enemy aircraft and weapons. General Cindy Nacowitz had come down to the area to survey the progress of the Marine and SpecOps forces in this, the largest defence operation in the history of the Empire.
Naowitz: "Captain. Notify the MSF Beckford that we have a foothold on defence of the populace. We are letting them enter and exit the civilian area to go to work and to shop, amoung other things."
Captain: "Yes, Ma'am."
The Captain then walked into the comunications tent that was made in the large park, of which was where the Shazbotdom Marine Corps set up their base, and sent the message.
OOC: oops. Also I have 4000 air to air misiles firing at you planes
Thats what the helicopters were for. Equiped with nothing but anti-missile defences, they opened fire. A total of 8000 were deployed, streaking against the
oncoming barrage. Only 23 seahawks, 3 helicopters, and 7 A-10s hit and destroyed.
The second force continued flying.
Aerial Battle
By now nine wings were in the air, the planes swirling over the massive fleet group. Airman First Class Piotr Kowalski, aka Red Foxtrot One, relaxed in the cockpit of his Sea Hawk, glancing idly at the displays of the six AIM.72 AMRAAMs and four AIM.85C SRAAMs in his weapons bays. He and the rest of his squadron sped forward at subsonic speeds towards the enemy fighters.
He jerked back into alertness as his tactical passive RADAR began beeping wildly with the telltale pattern signifying a missile lock. With practiced ease Kowalski appraised the situation and radioed Fleet Command with a "Missiles incoming" sign, then his squadron. "We have four thousand plus zombies incoming, deploy countermeasures, take evasive maneuvers."
The Sea Hawks in his squadron responded immediately, diving as they released flares and chaff, confusing incoming air-to-air missiles which began exploding. As Kowalski turned sharply again just a hundred metres from the sea, he glanced at the display. Two more missiles still tailing him. He had to work fast.
Pressing a light blue button, his electronic countermeasures (ECM) went to work, releasing a blanket intermittent jamming signal that sent a missile off course. One more left now. Kowalski dived towards the sea, pulling up sharply at the last minute and gasping with the pain and pressure. Looking over his shoulder, he saw the remaining missile plunge into the sea, confused by his evasive maneuvers.
"This is Red Foxtrot Leader, are you all ok?"
"Red Foxtrot Four at the ready, sir."
"Red Foxtrot Seven up and flying."
"Red Foxtrot Twelve prepared to smash them to kingdom come."
As his squadron reported in, Kowalski noted the losses. Red Foxtrot Nine and Seventeen had both succumbed to enemy missiles; other squads had taken even heavier losses, with some thirty planes downed in total. Kowalski radioed back, "All right men, back at 'em. Fire your AMRAAMs, then close in to finish them off."
He pressed a button and three of his AMRAAMs rocketed out of their bays, quickly picking up speed and disappearing into the sky at Mach 4.5, too fast for a missile to intercept but still capable of maneuvering to hit their targets. All 383 other Sea Hawks did the same, firing a total of 1,152 AMRAAMs. The three hundred and twenty Black Mariahs in the air—a number swelling as even more joined their comrades in the skies—fired off all four of their AMRAAMs, or 1,440; meanwhile, the one hundred and twenty Interceptors, with their long-range missiles replaced with medium-range ones, fired 1,200 AMRAAMs towards the enemy planes and began to restock on shorter-range missiles from the Ordnance Carriers.
Meanwhile, even before these missiles were fired, the Chimaera AWACS planes began demonstrating their usefulness from some 20,000 feet above the main action. These powerful command planes were equipped with very sophisticated electronics, most importantly a directional jamming system capable of focusing in narrow bands powerful enough to destroy the electronics of a plane or missile. These electronics beams began flicking on and off now, sweeping across the enemy air formation and undoubtedly frying the electronics of the planes, either disabling their sensors and making a response to the DPO missile attack much more difficult, or knocking them out altogether, sending them into the sea. There were no fewer than twenty-eight of these planes in the skies now, and they were capable of causing a great deal of damage.
And, of course, there were the 3,792 AMRAAMs inbound, with an additional 2,512 LRSAMs from the ships' Praetorian launch systems... not to mention the thousand-plus planes closing in for the kill. ~
[ooc:] I might agree. Although as it's spring break here at least, Kilani and Rodenka could just be on some kind of trip (not that kind... ¬_¬) or vacation sans internet, so we should wait until classes resume before calling off the RP.
All of Admiral-Bell's planes fell from the sky. Some do to jamming, but the planes were well shielded enough they managed to reboot. The damage was minimal. Flying at only a few thousand feet, the fleet of planes continued. Most missiles missed, unable to replicate the dive. The main air fleet as well as the bomber group were now in range. Both began their attack runs...
The last AC-01 took off from the makeshift camp. The camp, which 3 days earlier was a rather large camp, was disassembled and packed up in the various transports that had landed in the past few days. Sergent Gene "Slaughter" Henderson was looking out the back of the AC-01 as it started it's climb. He thought of what had happened here and smiled that it was done.
