CAPITOL CITY, (Reuters) – The world received a new diplomatic player today as the largely-isolationist and virtually unknown nation of Mighty Susanica opened its doors to limited diplomatic relations with the rest of the world.
Largely Isolationist
Mighty Susanica is a small island nation on the edge of the Pacific Ocean, and has existed as a state entity for one hundred years. However, over that course of time, the nation has remained a largely isolationist country, shunning diplomatic relations with the rest of the world and barring its citizens from leaving the country for virtually any reason. The last citizen of Mighty Susanica to leave its shores was in 1923.
Dictatorship Law
Mighty Susanica is ruled by a Dictatorship government, and has been for the past ninety years. The short-lived Mighty Susanican Republic at the birth of the nation in 1906 lasted only a decade before it was overthrown in a military coup by opposition politicians and military officers that were dissatisfied with the policies of the residing government.
Very little is known about the creation of the Mighty Susanican Dictatorship, as the government has erased all records of the revolution from official documents and purged many private documents in the early state actions to solidify its position. According to official history, the Mighty Susanican Dictatorship came to power to ‘save the noble citizens of the glorious nation from the corrupt, petty and weak Republic that attempted to sell our future to the evil foreigners.’ This story is disputed by historians in other nations, but the fact remains that the Dictatorship has been in power for ninety years and remains strong.
Indoctrination
The Mighty Susanican Dictatorship has maintained its power in several ways; brute force, covert operations and indoctrination. Although the first two listed are obvious, the latter most method is of most interest.

President Karl Vladimir Alexander (80), President of Mighty Susanica
The current residing President of the Dictatorship, Karl Vladimir Alexander, now in his sixtieth year of power, has maintained his power through a process of constant and overwhelming indoctrination. Posters line nearly every wall in the main cities of the Dictatorship, and are also prominent in the smaller towns and settlements on the Susanican Isle. Propaganda trucks constantly rove the nation, spewing pro-State and pro-Presidential messages 24/7, and mass rallies are constantly organised by the Dictatorship to celebrate the President. The education system is also influenced, with children as young as six being taught the alternative history of the Susanican government and the infinite glories, wisdom and kindness of President Alexander. The President personally addresses the nation on television and radio every day regularly at noon, and internet access is strictly controlled and restricted to websites that are deemed ‘un-controversial’. 17 years ago, the President adopted a son from one of the local orphanages as part of a combined PR exercise and tactical move to secure the future Presidency from possible opposition, afterwhich placed the President at an estimated 100 percent Public Opinion Rating (although this is disputed as government propaganda, the number is still expected by foreign analysts to be in the high eighties.)
Eyes are now beginning to turn to the President’s adopted son and widely expected successor, Christopher Iosef Alexander, and how he will go about transferring and maintaining the cult of personality that his father has built up without being usurped in the possible power struggle.

Diplomatic Relations
The Mighty Susanican Dictatorship has always maintained a foreign policy of total isolation in order to prevent its citizens from being influenced by other ways of living and models of government and history. However, in the last few months, a surprising change in policy brought in by the President has resulted in the Dictatorship opening its iron clad doors partially so as to allow the exchange of embassies between nations. Speaking on television yesterday, President Alexander professed that “we must implement this policy so as to allow the foreigners to take notice of the Dictatorship and assume our rightful and glorious position at the centre of the world stage and command the international agenda.”
Diplomatic exchanges and conditions upon which these can be established can be reached through contacting the newly constructed Ministry of Foreign Affairs at 555-01234-77, or addressed in formal manner to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Presidential Lane, Capitol City, Mighty Susanica, MS1 2PA.
