President Lord Harald Gustavsson is planning on resigning after fifty years in office, and has decreed that he will end military rule and allow civilian elections.
The following candidates are running for office:
Monsiuer Philippe de Burgoise
Party: Capitalist Moderates Party
De Burgoise is the son of Pierre de Burgoise, chairman and CEO of the internationally renowned weapons maker ArmsDiscounters Bonstock. He promises a pro-business environment, including lower taxes, and promises to make Bonstock more economically competitive in the world, along with a strong military. A lawyer by training, he was elected to the Senate five years ago, and divides his time between his Senate office and his family's retreat in the tropical Ste. Evremonde islands.
Roberto Sanchez
Party: Socialist Party
Originally a steel factory worker, Sanchez wrote a book about critisizing government labor policies while working at his job. The book, Democracy and Exploitation, became a bestseller, and Sanchez was soon elected to the Senate, forming a new Socialist party. He advocates the nationalization of many industries, a reduction in the armed forces, and raising the standards of living, as well as a softing of Bonstock's traditionally anti-communist and expansionist foreign policy.
Yeshumed of Miramik
Party: United Church of Yeshumedism
A shepherd from the southeastern provinces of Bonstock, Yeshumed claims to have had revelations from God that he was to save humanity from sin by spreading God's word. He has been gathering a large following among Bonstock's usually atheist population. He advocates a holy crusade to unite all people under a government that spreads his version of God's word, and advocates the inclusion religious matters in Bonstocknian life.
