The CES Voyager (http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f84/Chroli/DiscoveryClassExpShip.jpg), the first Chrolian ship capable of interstellar travel, travels to a nearby solar system. It scans the system, stores the data, and moves onto the next. Its 12 crew are on a mission to explore all systems within a 20 lightyear radius of their homeworld of Chrol, and return with the data. It is also tasked with attempting to locate any other spacefaring civilisations, and communicate with them. As it travels, it broadcasts a message on all frequencies:
We are the Chroli Empire. We seek contact with other civilisations and establish diplomatic channels. If you receive this message, please meet our exploration ship broadcasting this message, or travel to our homeworld at the enclosed co-ordinates.

We are now coming in to dock. Upon successful docking, the four-person team shall disembark. The chosen team to go aboard your vessel will consist of two researchers, one Diplomacy Officer, and the Captain.

The Hiveship rent out of hyperspace; appearing, its hull lightly crackling with residual discharge amongst the blackness of space. It's black surface gleaming and hissing amongst the void, as it slowly; ponderously began to move; closer now to the Chrolian vessel.

The sensor officer jumps up in alarm, "Sir, another ship has appeared, it is slowly moving in on an intercept course. We received a communication from them; they don't sound friendly."
The Captain frowned. They were still a few minutes from the Sephrioth Star Destroyer, and this new arrival looked like it would reach them before they arrived.
"OK, send out a message. Ask them who they are and why they're here. Navigation, can we use the Subspace Travel Drive?"
"Negative, sir," replied the Navigation Officer, "it still hasn't fully charged, and such close proximity to these vessels could cause problems."
"Fine, just continue course to the Sephrioth vessel. Maybe they can help."

The Voyager continued on its course, the ion engines accelerating it slowly; the engines were designed for efficiency, not speed, and it definitely could not accelerate too fast. The scanners were redirected to run an intensive scan on the Hiveship, and all data so far collected on the trip was sent back to Chrol, in case something happened to the Voyager.

Already the far flung Zeji Armada was regaining its old strength. On Aiur, the first and greatest part had been revived, but there were many bastions of the Zeji scattered about the Galaxy, and all were intent on one thing: Reaching Aiur. There were still a few true Zeji alive, and they made up the crews of the ships that had stumbled on this small confrontation.

A deadly Tiamat led the decent sized taskforce, followed by a trio of Krakens, several Zeji Leviathan Carriers, a dozen hydras, and a reasonable number of Barracudas and Tritons, backed by a sizable fighter contingent. They were all that was left of a once powerful outpost, but, if worst came to worst, they were still tough enough to deal with whatever came their way.

"No, sir. The Hiveship is still moving towards us at its slow pace, and the Sephrioth Star Destroyer is doing nothing but they appear to be alert."
"Good. Maintain course, keep an eye out in case that Hiveship fires."

The Tiamat held its position, and began charging its massive Tiamat Cannon. They had no idea who spoke truth here, and whoever fired first would recieve the planet destroying capabilities of the Cannon, in a very personal way. The supporting Krakens readied their Charibdys Cannon, best suited to capturing enemies, and brought their Acheron Batteries on line. They had no desire to get involved in petty squabbles, but if someone decided to involve them, they would pay.

The Sephrion Star Destroyer had made the first move, and it would be the last. The Tiamat opened fire, a slightly toned down blast, but still more than capable of shattering whatever it targeted.

This was quite regrettable. I see that they are irrational, and violent.

Sephrioth ship, the taskforce have sent a communication saying they will not destroy your ship if you stand down, and judging from the size of the taskforce we would suggest you do so. Also, earlier we received a communication from the Hiveship which would suggest that they may not be as hostile as previously thought; we have attached the contents of the Hiveship message. So, please cease firing, for the good of all forces involved.

The Zeji ships ceased firing as soon as the Sephrion torpedoes detonated.

The Voyager turned to resume docking with the Sephrioth Star Destroyer. It slowly lined up with the docking bay, and gently came in. The ship slowed and landed on the bay floor. A few seconds later, the rear tail swung slowly down to touch the floor. The chosen team of four stepped into the airlock at the rear of the tail, and the airlock cycled open to allow them out into the bay, where they met the Sephrioth wardroid detachment. Once the team had left, the airlock closed and the Voyager's tail moved back up into its normal position.

A frigate screamed across the heavens, an endless search for the currently unknown. New people, places, information. The Explorers sought it all. They would not stop until the entire multiverse had been discovered, catalogued, and assessed, or the Forgemaster returned to claim his children, whichever came first. The transmission caused much excitement. A new chance to meet more people. To build more alliances, engage in more trade. To maybe get a friend to help in the civil war.

However, as it neared the specified coordinates, large scale combat was detected. And there is little the Explorers hate more than such. Instead, the frigate altered its trajectory, barreling towards the Chroli Homeworld. Stopping a respectable distance from the planet, it transmitted a powerful tightbeam hail.

Hail to the Chroli Empire. This is the Explorer Frigate NES Spade of the Galactic Inferno of No Endorse. We have recieved your transmission, but as we neared your explorer craft, we detected heavy combat.

We do not know the status of your ship. However, we do wish to meet with you peacefully, and discuss many things. Things such as peace, trade, embassies, nonagression, and possibly a large alliance. We request clearance to enter the system and speak with your people. We wish to know of you before we commit to many things, we shall tell you much of our nation as well. We await your response.

You have permission to approach Chrol. A fighter wing will be dispatched to ensure a safe arrival. Please power down any weaponry, and then you will be permitted to dock at Hammer Shipyard. If you wish to travel to the planet's surface, we will send a surface-to-orbit shuttle.
Ten Archer-Class Fighters set off to escort the Spade, while scanners performed sweeps near the frigate to check for any dangerous materials or objects.

Meanwhile, the team onboard the Sephrioth Star Destroyer followed to the first stop at Engineering.

Our weapons give off a distinctive energy reading, you will know when they are powered up, they tend to stand out quite vividly. The Explorers have other ships for stealth, we are for long patrols.

As for the shuttle, that will be quite necessary. This ship carries no onboard craft, and I doubt you have room for a hundred-meter vessel to land offhand.

The frigate met up with the incoming fighters, proceeding as they indicated. Every weapons was deactivated, but shields stayed at one-third power. It scanned the surrounding area lightly, just to get its bearings, before switching to passive.

It touched down at the main shuttleport, and the airlock in the bottom of the craft opened, into a tunnel which led up into the grounds just outside the grand diplomatic building. A security team of twelve laser rifle-armed soldiers and two hovering Enforcer Police Drones was ready to meet the No Endorse captain.

The captain strode out of his frigate, a calm and powerful figure. Interesting that so much is needed to keep me in line. It's a nice building at least, no blatantly obvious weaponry on it.

One of the soldiers replied, "Yes. Emporer Cholus has decided to meet you personally. When you go in, we will wait outside, but the drones will accompany you to the office where you will meet the Emporer. We apologise for the tight security, but criminal activity in this area has been higher than usual these past few weeks."

The diplomatic building was a large, grand structure; the main building was a grey, metallic building, with two dull, golden, crescent-shaped wings coming from each side. A metallic red wall extended from between the tips of the crescent wings, with an arch in the centre, leading into a courtyard. The courtyard was dominated by a grand, golden fountain, and rows of well-kept bushes and trees lined the edges. As the Captain approached, he might notice a low humming noise, almost too low to hear; this was the internal shield generator, used to provide security barriers in offices throughout the building to protect the high-ranking government officials who worked in the building.

The Emporer personally? I'll need to tread softly. There was an almost undetectable surprise at the remark about the Emporer, but David quickly supressed it.

He approached the building, barely detecting the faint hum of shields. It was comforting, something that reminded him of his ship in orbit.

"So there is a crime rate in the area? We've had troubles like that in Haven and Sanctuary. It's hard to keep heavily populated worlds clean, they just keep falling apart."

The diplomatic building, Chrol Prime
The soldiers waited outside the entrance to the building, while the drones showed David in. The inside of the building was modern and impersonal, and everything was made of metal. The police drones escorted David around several corridors to a door. One drone moved forward and opened the door by nudging a button on the wall. The room inside was completely different to the rest of the building, as the metal corridors gave way to an expensively furnished room, in a traditional style, with everything made of ornately carved wood or gold. The slight blue shimmer of the energy shield was clear above the wooden desk. Emporer Holami Cholus, dressed in similarly traditional and ornate clothing, sat on the other side of the desk.
"Ah, Mr. Bragg, I believe," he said, "Please sit down."

The team was impressed by the holosuites, especially the researchers who were more interested in this type of thing.
"Interesting," said the Captain, "So these holosuites are multi-purpose, then? Interesting," he repeated.

David Bragg sat down in the chair provided, taking in the room. The presence of the energy field was disturbing, but it could be ignored for now. "Thank you sir. I did not expect I would be meeting with you, your highness."

As the 25 beamed down onto Chrol, an Enforcer Police Drone approached. For several seconds, it scanned all 25 of them and went round the corner. After a few short seconds, it reappeared, followed by three Fury Wardroids for security. The Frigate pulled away from its space moorigs above the planet, charging every weapon to full power. It would look like a star had suddenly appeared on sensors, belaying the craft's hundred-meter size. Its sidejump drive charged to maximum in an instant, and the ship hurled itself to a good firing position against both sides.

This is a message from the NES Spade, First Explorer Fleet, to all involved parties in this little problem. Cease your hostilities at once, or we WILL cease them for you. This is your final warning, we are singularity charge equipt, cease at once.

There have been no agressions, except from the Sephrion craft from what our sensors tell us. Stand down and allow all parties to arrive here in peace. Consider this newcomer under Inferno protection until we find out more about their position in the galactic scene.

The reply was quick.
We would be interested. However, we don't have the manpower onboard to engage in two sucessive meetings. We are calling in another craft.
Another transmission was made simultaneously, a much more powerful one aimed out-of-system, at another Explorer. This was a cruiser, a craft six times longer than the hundred meter frigate. It turned slightly on its heading and barrelled towards the system, a huge sensor reading approaching.

It would arrive soon, ready to go on a mission to a new world.

Meanwhile, the Sephrion delegation was showed into a room to meet the diplomat. The room was similar to the one where the Emporer was. The diplomat, called Zel Ninoranat, sat behind the desk. At the sight of the Sephrion marines, he surreptitiously pressed a button under the desk to increase the power on the shields. He smiled and waited for the Sephrion Captain to sit down.

The No Endorse cruiser screeched into realspace, hyperspace energy flowing off it in blue tendrils. Its transponder read as the NES Sidewinder, another of the Explorer fleet.

The NES Spade replied just as the Sidewinder appeared in system.

They will have to accept it. This is a diplomatic meeting. All No Endorse vessels here are military designs modified for longer range and exploration. The Sephrion craft are all military, there should be no problems.

The NES Sidewinder will ensure your safety to the best of its abilities. We must return to dock.

The frigate jumped to back near the space-dock, and waited for clearance to dock at the slip it had just left. The cruiser slid towards the smaller diplomatic vessel serenly.

The Zeji had observed everything, silent and patient. These "Sephrions" were agressive and seemingly cross-headed in their actions. There must be something done about them. The Zeji had waited, silent and patient. They had expected the Sephrions to become calm eventually. The Zeji would wait no longer.

Transmission to all forces in the system:

We are the Zeji. We have seen and heard all that has occurred here. It is our determination that there is too much instability in this place. You are now ALL under the law of the Zeji Empire, all forces not belonging to the No Endorsians, the Chroli, and the Armada are to stand down, or suffer destruction. A demonstration will follow this message.

As soon as the message was sent the powerful Tiamat turned away from the main planet, targeting the largest uninhabitable moon. It fired, a coruscating beam of pure energy, lashing through pace at unimaginable speed. Minutes later, it impacted on the moon with a visible flash, before burrowing deeper and deeper, finally exiting the other side, before the moon finally succumbed to the stresses involved, and disintegrated.

A burst of energy disappeared into Overspace and then the Charan materilized, a five hundred kilometer sphere, radiating energy from its abrupt radial velocity change as a corona of light.

OOC - The Charan was origionally designed while the phase drive needed a massive spread of nodes to induce accurate Overspace transit. It was designed as an exploration vessel but in the time it took to lay down the hull of it and its sister ship, the Alba, the phase drive technology was improved by a massive degree so the huge node array was not needed. The ships were built on a modular design so as new technology became available, more advanced modules were designed and built, replacing the older designs. They were not designed as warships but the huge amount of internal space meant that there was nothing else to mount on the outside so the desighers thought 'what the heck, we might as well make it very well defended' and put weapon emplacements all over the outside.
