A joint training exercise between the Royal Navy and the Pacitalian Naval Force concluded today. The exercise involved over two dozen warships off the northwestern coast of Isola Lampudesa, Acqua Verdi, Pacitalia and simulated a joint amphibious assault against what exercise planners called an enemy of the United Kingdom and the Republic of Pacitalia.
The exercise tested the two navies’ ability to operate together in a combat setting specifically hitting the areas of sensors, combat and communication systems. Rear Admiral Sir Gregory Lloyd represented the Royal Navy’s senior theatre commander and afterwards stated that “the joint Azazi-Pacitalian naval force tested their systems, along with those of our national military surveillance systems – both orbital and subsurface, against Tyrannia. We acquitted ourselves quite well of the challenge.”
Tyrannia was the name of the dictator-controlled state that opposed the two nations. By all official and un-official accounts the two navies performed remarkably well for their first joint operation. However, the exercise did provide both navies opportunities to assess other areas of their national defence. One anonymous Pacitalian naval official added that the exercise was a “precursory test to the general integrity of Pacitalia’s Marazulan coastal defences.”
While at home, the Admiralty commented that the exercise “proved to the international community that the Royal Navy had recovered” from its losses in the Novikovian War and is “quite ready to defend the UK and her allies as well as prosecute our enemies.” Defence analysts noted that this was the first operational deployment of a major UK surface action group since the Novikovian War.
Both navies made use of the publicized event to showcase some of their latest ships to not just the world but the populations of the UK and Pacitalia. In particular, Pacitalia offered the UK its first glimpse of the destroyer RPN Breningrad while the Royal Navy dispatched the new cruiser HMS Mandragora to take part in the exercises.
