Following the end of the occupationary govenrment, the provisional government met in the city of Vichy -due to the dillapatated state the city of Paris was- to prepare for Election of President and Parlament -which would reside in the Louvre with what was left of the old parlament building turned into a museam and monument for peace- In a matter of months this was complete. The new head of state was to be the old field marshal Jean de Lattre de Tassigny with the prime minister chosen to be Jean Monnet.
Thus was the Fourth Republic born, although It was more known as the "Vichy" Republic, as the city hosted the ballot counting and temporarly the first parlament till the Louvre was refitted.
General Charles De Gaulle retains the position of head of security and armed forces.
Maxime Weygand has been retried and cleared of all charges, following the resurface of new evidence.

Today the Prime minister Monnet unveiled his plans for the restoration of Paris and her landmarks which were severly damaged during the war.
"The city of Paris has paid a dear price for the follies of man and his wars" he told the people "The works of artists, thinkers and hardworking men over the centuries were destroyed in but a few months. We, their descendants, must forever hold in our minds the lessons we have learned and aspire to true greatness, the greatness achieved by creating an aura of harmony and cooperation, not just between us, the people of France, but with all of Europe!
Over the next few months we will be restoring Paris, but in reality It is up to you the people of France to return Glory to your capital!"
Competitions were created for designs for the Eiffel tower, With many participating from all over Europe.

Britain is willing to make concessions with the French government over the future of the artworks liberated from the Louvre as reparations at the end of the war. Any artwork which the British Museum, the Tate Gallery and other leading galleries in London do not wish to keep will be returned to France as a token of goodwill.
OOC: unlikely to restore any of the really desirable masterpieces but at least you'll be able to partially reopen the Louvre.

At last! Paris has been restored! after around the clock construction and repairs results are finally showing andParis is begining to look as herself once more, the crown of Paris is her once more standing the Eiffel Tower redesigned by the swiss engineer Charles-Edouard Jeanneret bringing in the old and the new together in his new colorful design. (OOC: Imagine an eiffel tower built using modern designs). A statue of Gustav Eiffel was also erected in front of the tower. Another spectacular sight is the Old National assembly Building which was rebuilt by the aid of the innovative German archatic Adolph Hitler. The Assembly Muesem will hold the works ofart returned by our friends the British.
The Prime Minister have congratulated the French people on their Success and urges them to work more for the glory of Peace, Liberty and Brotherhood.

25th September 1948
The streets of Paris were filled with joy and festivity that day from dawn to dusk and beyond; performers were at every corner, flags covered every wall, music could have been heard for miles from the city. Everybody was celebrating! from the Parisian officials to the small groups of Germans, Belgiums, Dutch, English, Americans, Moroccan, Spanish and others who had gathered up -by the help of the government of course- for this marvellous event.
The only people not celebrating were the national police who -along with many military detachments- were placed on extreme high alert to watch over the festivities and protect from any incidents, thankfully these turned out to be minor.
Throughout the day there was the tasting of many wines, cheeses, chocolates and other various assortments of exquisite foods there was also several other events which included several contests and displays of daredevil acts.
But nothing was greater than the parade which took part through the city. men women and children marched through the city side by side with the millitary which periodically changed from the formal marching to the casual walking alongside normal civilian. International leaders made appearance also each siting alongside each other in luxerious vehicles waving the flags of their countries, even the old president ooked dashing in his old uniform holding up the flag proudly.
The people marched to different marching tunes, which varied from Beethoven's Ode to joy, to the La Marseilleise and even to the new sound of Jazz, which seemingly took an appeal to many young people. The event was covered by national televison.
At 17:00 a moment of silence was declared for those who fought in the Eurasian war and several speeches at the previous site of the arc de triumph were made by international officials and celebrities which deeply moved the people.
<Important IC part>:But the most incredible speech was the speech given by the Prime Minister on the importance of increased cooperation between all nations of the world to avoid further tragedies and that an example must be set to acomplish this.
He pulled out a document and told the people that this is a document for the economic and scientific cooperation of Britain, France and Germany, after outlining the terms, which are:
-The Fromation of an economic pact between France, Germany, Britain and the Lowlands states.
-The official formation of the European Space Agency, in which the previous nations will be part of and will equally contribute contribute to the exploration of this new frontier.
Then the Prime Minister and the president signed the document and presented it to Chancellor Erwin Rommel, His Majesty King George VI and other representatives from the Lowland States who also signed the document. Which was followed by great cheers, celebration and Fireworks.

ESA news:
The European Space Agency has announced that it's first sub-orbital flight has been made. The flight was launched from the ESA launch facility in Sierra Leone. It was ably piloted by an unamed German test pilot and reached heights of 116.5 miles (187 km). After reaching the peak height the craft began to descend through the atmosphere. Both it's heat shielding and parachutes functioned correctly and the craft touched down around 300 miles into the Atlantic Ocean. The radio location devices functioned almsot perfectly and the craft was soon located by a helicopter from the aircraft carrier HMS Vindictive, which had been seconded from the British Navy Atlantic Fleet for this purpose. Both the spacecraft and the pilot were recovered the the Vindictive and taken back to Sierra Leone.
Footage of the flight was broadcast across the world and the ESA hopes to reach true space within three years.
OOC: I gave a 10% chance of each major system (parachute, heat shields, recovery etc.) failing and a 30% chance of this failure being serious. As it happened no failures occured and the craft completed it's mission adequately.

ESA Manned Mission a Success!
German Pilot Günther Rall First Man to Reach Sub-Orbital!
Three days ago, the ESA announced that the first manned mission was a complete sucess. They also announced that a German had been the pilot. Günther Rall, a veteran of the Eurasian War was chosen. He was known as one of the Top Aces of the Volksluftwaffe. While many in the ESA were against the use of members of the old regime, Walter Dornberger, a resident during the old communist reign himself, has universally decided that "these young boys, like their esteemed Chancellor, have their loyalty to Germany, not that who leads it."
This is in continuation of the Kaiser's policy of Reconciliation and Reconstruction, which has been identified by the use of many of the competent members of the old Volksreich to rebuild the Empire.

First off, I would like to say that I understand your concern and I am truly thankful for the offer you have made for the sake of Brazils future in democracy. With an impartial "middle man" I would like to believe that this would help thwart any attempts to have a corrupt election. However, with all due respect, I think the people would rather have a UN appointed nation to oversee the elections. Once again I thank you for your concern.

In a secret project in Sierra Leone, the ESA begins it's first satellite mission.
The first mission was attempted on January 18th 1952. The rocket was on its launch platform and all systems were go, however shortly after take off the rocket unexpectedly exploded, damaging some nearby buildings and part of the launch tower, but fortunately causing no casualties. Many immediately suspected an act of sabotage from a rival space program (either the SCT or, more scarily, the USA). However investigations into the cause are still underway.
A second launch effort was immediately begun, with the tower being rebuilt and a back up satellite being hastily readied. The second satellite, codenamed Discovery II, was launched on January 22nd, being a particularly poignant occasion as this was the 51st anniversary of the death of Queen Victoria whose name was given to the main research centre for this project. The second launch was successful and the satellite reached a peak orbit point of 939km. The satellite is sending back temoerature and pressure details of the outer reaches of the Earth's atmosphere. It has been estimated that the battery life will be around 3 weeks, but the satellit ewill remain in ordbit for almsot 3 months. Plans are made for follow up launches later in the year.
OOC: Not a sabotage attempt, just a fault in the fuel systems. A randomly determined error occur (rolled for by me) and it disintegrated. A substitute launch was paid for by the British secret funds (overspend from last budget) and a second satellite and launch vehicle used from the dozen or so back ups always ready in such situations. The codename is pretty lame, but the best I could think of (ESA members feel free to suggest better ones).

Aviation Hero André Turcat Triumphs for France
The nation celebrates as the first person to sucessfully achieve orbit in space is honored by his proud country. The president, despite recent ailling health delivered his speech:
"...This is history in the making, the efforts of fellow Andre' Turcat and his colleagues from all over Europe has ultimately proven that the notion of that the sky is the limit as absolutely false and that nothing can limit the power of human imaganation and capabillity in aspiring to greatness..."
Despite the glory which Turcat has earned, his modesty that can be found in all great Frenchmen did not prevent him from recognising his peers and commended the efforts of John Cunningham, Peter Twiss, Herman Salmon, Eric Brown, Johnnie Johnson and all of those who are to come, at his bequest a moment of silence was declared in the memory of Robert Stanford Tuck and Fritz Wendel, the two brave pioneer who gave their lives in this great endeavor.
It is reported that a small memrial is to be erected to recognise the efforts of the two astronauts.

May 1st- June 31st, 1957
Paris, France.
Thousands of Parisians flock to the public squares, gallaries and theaters where artists, performers, writers, musicians, cuisine, art and friendship is on display from all over Europe. At the museams, the many schools of both Modern and classic art can be seen, at the motion picture theaters, the works of Europe's finest directors can be watched with French translation, at the public squares, dishes from all over the continent can be sampled along with the entertainment of the street performers and at local hotels and assmblies many works of litrature can be found.
It was as all of Europe had come to the city, even those who weren't officially part of the program, although the spirit of coperatin was high, as expected several problems aros when a few radicals held protests on several political issues, thankfully due to the increased prescence of the police, these went as peacefully as it may be hoped.
Following the end of the month the program shall head over to another capital (London).

OOC: I'm trying to come up with specifics for my military, not for any in game reason, but mostly for my own amusement. I don't think this will have any in-game effects, but that's up to GB, really. Some of these items are WWII era, but I think they would all exist at this point in the timeframe.

In addition, the Syrian Navy (which currently has no ships since the Coastal Patrol was founded) is pleased to announce shipbuilding contracts will occur, but will have to be delayed until 1959 (as I dont want to buy ships that will be obsolete a few months after I buy them)

3 points for 10 years, maybe? this is negotiable of course...

Perhaps I should figure out numbers per unit first, as paying 3 points would be quite a bit if it was around 50 pieces per unit.

Navy to be Strengthened
The French government has announced that several changes will be taking place to improve the effectiveness of the French Armed Forces, the main issue addressed is the French Navy where it is expected an increase in the number of Aircraft Carriers to improve the flexibility of the Airforce, thus it is expected that the CAS wing (consisting of 4 Mirage IV fighter units) will be scraped or sold to friendly nations. Also planned is the sale of 2 Mirage V Fighter Units and 2 Mechanised Flak Units.
A major change comes in the Special Forces where an Airborne Brigade has been retrained to a light Marine Brigade. "These changes shall bring a good deal of flexibility to our armed forces" stated the Head of the armed forces, "Thus improving our defence capability and the efficiency in which we could help our allies".
Finally a civil defence program has been announced to be initiated throughout the nation, this is much welcome by many citizens as public opinion shows concern on the wake of the Siberian crisis.

The first Concorde supersonic passenger prototype makes its maiden flight on 2-3-63. The aircraft has been deisgned and constructed by a joint project between BAe and Aerospatiale, the major French defence contractor. The Concorde test flight ran from Toulouse to Heathrow airports and included extensive checks to the major systems. A supersonic test flight is scheduled for early next year. The first sale of passenger aircraft is not to be for another 7 years following more than 6000 hours of in-flight tests, including extensive monitoring of the aircraft during supersonic flights.
The first sale of aircraft will be open to British Airways and Air France only but subsequent production models will be available for export.
