Height: 66 Metres
Crew: 250 (10 Officers, 240 Enlisted)
Decks: 8 (Saucer), 5 (Secondary Section)
Powerplant: Matter/Antimatter Warp Core
Propulsion: Faster-than-Light, Sublight Impulse
Maximum Velocity: Warp 7
Weapons: 8 Type VIII Phaser Banks (12,336 TerraWatts), 2 Photon Torpedo Tubes (50 Rounds)
Further Information:
As the policy of the Human Space Colonies' government changed to one of exploration and expansion following its twenty-year period of isolation, the United States Department of Defence issued a general requirement for a frigate-sized vessel that would be able to take up the roles of patrol and light escort and alleviate the heavier-armed Defiant Class vessels to concentrate on their primary roles of fleet defence for the larger vessels of the Space Force. The winning design went to the United States Allied Shipwrights Corporation, which gained the contract by providing a plan for a small, reasonably armed Starship that could take up escort roles and defend itself on patrol missions.
The Defender Class Frigate sports eight Type VIII Phaser Banks, surplus from the construction of the Excelsiors, and two forward-firing photon torpedo tubes with 50 reloads in total. The Defender also sorts an impressive maximum speed of Warp 7, whilst minimising its power output by sporting only a single nacelle to do the task, thus extending the maximum possible power availiable and reducing the need for refuelling on long missions.
The first Defenders are expected to come into service in 1 NS Year (1 RL Week)
