Project Ragnarok; Yurka's Lunar Weapon (PMT)

Zion Macrotechnology Corporate Base; Western Mountain Range

The sun slowly rose over the mountains to the east, casting a slowly growing glow over the massive facility over the flatlands. They were completely cut off from the rest of Yurka, the only connection being a small subway depot. The entire facility was massive, with rows of warehouses and hangars, along wtih an enormous Zion Macrotech. Corporate Headquarters. In front of it sat a large radio tower, and behind that sat an enormous launching pad. On this launching pad was an equally massive cylindrical object... The first of the Ragnarok Modules to be launched over Yurka...

Inside of the radio tower there was a sudden flash of activity as a group of officials walked in front of the numerous workers manning the controls. They were all wearing the same red and white Corporate uniform, though it was easy to tell who the military personnel were by the way they carried themselves...

"So are you sure its ready? It was rather quick..." General Karth Grimoire said behind his mirror-sunglasses, hiding the expression behind his eyes. There was a certain coldness in his voice, which was mixed with tiredness from the long ride there, "I can't believe you managed to get it done so quickly... If it doesn't work then you won't be paid..."

"Haha... Don't worry Imperial General Grimoire... This baby is more than ready. You gave us quite the motivation if I remember correctly. What was it? One? Two?" A shorter gentleman with a black cropped haircut said with an almost charming smile.

"Two and a half trillion credits..." Karth said quietly, "Just hurry up and launch it. The Emperor might need me in case the war with Czardas escalates."

"Heh... Well general, not even going to let me do a little countdown first? Those are our men and women in the module after all..."

"Very well."

"Ah... Twenty! Nineteen! Eighteen! Seven-" The man cut through with a bit of manic laughter, "Now where was I? Oh sorry I seem to have misplaced my count... I'm just so excited... Alright Eighteen!"

Oh gods... Why did the Emperor send me on this trip?

Zion Macrotechnology Corporate Base; Western Mountain Range

A full minute passed before the man finally finished counting and the immense nuclear-powered space module quaked at the launchpad in front of them. Those few still outside quickly rushed into the nearest buildings to avoid the immense heat and traces of radiation slamming into the ground. All eyes were on the massive cylinder as it seemed to struggle under its own immense weight, slowly breaking free of the earth as it immediately rocketed into the air, leaving an immense black scar on the launch pad, which had been built of a flame-retardent material and coated in an unknown substance to prevent that from happening...

Meanwhile in the radio tower cheers were heard as the men and women manning the controls quickly began cheering. Even Karth Grimoire had a smile on his face, despite the Corporate Director's constant, annoying laugh! The entire base facility had finished construction of the first of many modules to be sent to create Ragnarok!

"So how many people are in that thing?!" Karth shouted over the cheers, staring at the short laughing man.

"Oh! Fifteen! It was troublesome getting so much food there, they have enough for five months though! We'll send more up later, as was pre-arranged!"

"You are a credit to our people Director." Karth said quietly before pulling out a small radio-like object, "This is General Karth Grimoire! Send the escort now!"

"Aye... Sir!" The Radio squeaked before shutting off.

---------------------

The immense, high speed ship was quickly followed by a group of twelve atmospheric aircraft, to make sure nothing went wrong. Behind the fast-moving ship they were visibly slower, but every now and then would boost forward quickly to keep up. Once the object left the atmosphere though, the aircraft would need to return, as their fuel supply was not efficient enough to get anywhere within the range of most satellites, though they would serve their purpose and fire at any aircraft or weapons targetting the module's crew.

OOC: The full plans for Ragnarok are in the factbook. ;)

IC:

Yurka; 600+ KM

As the enormous cylinder reached the final stretch of the atmosphere, the charred jets following it quickly descended, rolling through the heat downward. For a second it would seem as if the things would actually burn up or continue falling downward until they crashed into the grounds. Thankfully, these craft were tested beforehand, and as they reached one hundred and twenty kilometers above the Earth's surface most of them had broken free and were flying back to their respective military base. Two however, didn't, but before they crashed large parachutes were quickly opened behind them as numerous chunks of the craft fell off, leaving only the cockpit and pilot to gently fall into the mountains below...

As the module made it through space unassaulted, it slowly continued forward, aimed for the edge of the moon. From there it would continue until it made it to the side facing away from the Earth. Once this was done they could begin construction unmolested, and if any satellites did spot them, there was no way to know yet what exactly was being built, other than the fact that it would be quite large...

Zion Macrotechnology Corporate Base; Western Mountain Range

"Good job Director! The government will send your check immediately, so in the meantime you can begin working on the other modules within your other facilities. We hope to have some of Yurka's allies give us assistance under the guise of a research lab." Karth Grimoire said with a smile and a salute, despite the fact that the Corporate Director was no one even close to his rank, "So when can we expect the next module..."

"Please Imperial General Grimoire... Call me Dalton. You can expect the next few to be all finished within six months, should our payment come through alright."

"Excellent! Keep the true purpose of the project secret though until Ragnarok's first base is completed. By that time we should have enough defenses to protect the other modules and bases."

"Alright then. Send the Emperor my regards."

"Of course. Now if you'll excuse me I have a train to catch." The general said off-handedly as he tucked a folder full of CDs under his arm and made his way for the door. As he did so an immediate sense of relief came over him, now that he wouldn't need to put up with the attempted humorous mannerism of Director Dalton...

The Emperor sat back in his office, staring at the display on his desk of the satellite slowly reaching the other side of the moon. Thankfully it hadn't been fired on, and Drake Yurka's plan for a fully offensive lunar weapon was one step closer at hand. Brushing his hair back, he slowly stood up and walked down the long hallway, passing numerous secretaries and armed guards, half of whom swarmed to his sides... He would meet Karth Grimoire at Imperial Sub-Station 0024 personally.

Just a matter of time...

((OOC: I'll begin launching more modules as time goes by, hopefully with the help of my allies. So far the help I have is essentially just research.))

Low Earth Orbit, Orbital Ion Cannon - Crew 2

After the Ion Cannon blast in The Marxist State, the Motherland had launched a rocket with an Advanced Apollo module to service the Cannon with interest. The two crew that had be assigned this task were both Military and Engineers in their respective areas.

Flight Commander Justin had been working for nearly three days to rpair some fried wires, when suddenly the Ion Cannon came to life. He was shocked, being the only person in it at the time, and capable of doing anything, he looked at the wires and made sure there wans't anything wrong.

Finding nothing, he turned to the screen and saw that the end of the Cannon pointed towards an object near the moon. Of course, in this stage, it looked like the Skylab of old.....the barrel still hidden from view. However, what Justin didn't know was that someone on the ground had ordered this.

Justin, this is Ground, I take it Issy moved?

"Copy that ground," everyone liked calling the Ion Cannon Issy for some reason, "Issy'a movin her eye."

Go with her, she's just scouting a new encounter.

"Roger that, will do."

OOC: Remember that its going towards the side of the moon always facing away from Earth, so unless your ship revolves around the moon it more or less won't be able to target it from a stationary orbit. Oh and would an Ion cannon be considered MT/PMT?

IC:

The ship was quiet as the crew sat back and waited in their space suits, completely black in coloration and heavily armoured should anything go wrong. The ship itself was more or less armoured as well, since the government of Yurka was wary of it's investment. The Fifteen men and women suddenly struggled upwards as they slowly began to move across the exterior of the moon's orbit. The first to speak was the captain, a dark haired man with a matta crossing his eye.

He clicked on the radio slowly, "This is Donavin Yurka... All equipment normal... Hows the reactor? Alexia?"

"This is Alexia Branca and the reactor is steady." A blonde haired young woman said quietly as she sat in the far back of the cockpit.

After these were reported back to base, along with the rest of the necessary information, over half of the crew quietly left the room to check on everything else first-hand. It was thankfully all there, and within the hour they would be completely hidden from the Earth's view... Then construction would finally begin.

Obelisk; Section 6

The room was extremely plane, with a 3D map of Yurka floating over it as the Science Division went over their yearly project meeting. At the head was Alan Yurka, who had just finished Cerberus and Arian Trevas, who was responsible for the burgeoning Ragnarok Program and the defensive Satellites being fired into orbit weekly.

"It seems base one has been completed..." One of the scientists said with a smile directed at Arian Trevas, who simply smiled back, "Good work. When can we expect the other modules up?"

The tall, dark haired man smiled as he leaned back in his seat, stroking his relatively unshaven face, "Hmm... Now that we already have one up, and the process is perfect, I suppose a single year and the other two bases will be completed. Of course we will be needing more funding. Would that be alright Alan, do you think we could aquire more funding from the Emperor?"

"Hmm... Yes, with Cerberus completed the AI programs won't be needing quite as much surpluss funding, so the rest can be transferred to your group. Do you think the silos can be finished on time too?"

Arian unleashed a good-natured smile, "Ah... That might take a bit longer, though some will be done. Do you think that space elevator can be constructed, or will we need to continue using nuclear power?"

"That... Well for now that won't be created for awhile. Perhaps when you finish Ragnarok the Catch Colony can be created? From there we can build that little elevator you're so fond of." Alan smiled back.

"Alright then. So is there any other business to attend to while we're all here?" He looked around and received no further glances, "Alright then. Lets all look forward to another fruitful year, shall we?"

if its one of the big-ass string variety, its so much BS, but all the different versions have problems too... trust me, I used to love the idea, but it just wasnt feasible...

OOC: it would work perfectly well, if it wasnt for the fact that the counterweight weighs so much that to lift it into orbit would use up about thirty times the current world fuel reserves...
oh, and we dont have anything strong enough to be the string, unless you make it about 100 meters wide (not sure on the exact value, being generous and making it small...
Yurka
15-02-2006, 02:48
OOC: It was mentioned in the articles... Nanotubes can easily hold them up. The counter-weight doesn't need to be that heavy, it mentions why there too. ;)
No_State_At_All
15-02-2006, 13:34
hmm. nanotubes might work, but think how expensive that one would be?
its also a hazard to aircraft, particularly nanotubes, as they are invisible, and sattelites, including mine, and I'm not re-routing them, so they'll break the cable eventually, and lose your counterweight into space...
Yurka
15-02-2006, 22:05
Ah but if you place the elevator in the ocean it can slowly move out of the way of those, along with satellites. The main problem would be planes, which is why I would need to place bases around it to stop them or shoot em down before they attempted to get near it. Also, idealy it would be placed on the Equator. The amount of Nanotubes necessary still keeps the project only in the billions though, and thats the first one. Not counting that PMT can probably make them a little more efficiently.

So other than terrorist attacks and the fact that it would be easy to attack, the only downside for me is getting an Equatorial place to build it. Which will eventually come into my plans... ;)
No_State_At_All
16-02-2006, 01:07
(that and the fact that the minute someone puts one up, I'll break it. not openly, but I will... sorry, but I really cant have them being used except by my allies, and the minute they get one, everyone will be building them, and the world stops being PMT and goes NFT...)
Yurka
16-02-2006, 02:09
(No problem. Though you'd need to find out how. Its still expensive to use it to send crap into orbit. Its more or less just to cheapen building small-scale stuff and sending up our satellites. Everything is nuclear powered anyways, but the radiation being emitted isn't too clean. ^_~ Hope we don't find out, or they'll be an enormous war to take out all threats to our sovereignity. Though we'd probably just blow more cash building a few more. We won't lend them to anyone though, and will probably sabotage all others on our own, so that we remain at the top of the herd.)

We thank you for your praise, and would be willing to accept strictly financial aid at this time, as we would more or less like to keep Ragnarok's abilities to themselves. As far as anyone is concerned, this is simply a peaceful space laboratory, where we can conduct around the clock experiments within relative safety and solitude. Along with this it will be there to assist with our astronauts, and construction projects for space. With monetary help, we would be more than happy to accept any Uranium you have on hand, to assist with our current space ventures as well. As always, you are an invaluable ally to us, and we are there at your side.

The modules had finally stopped coming for a time, giving the large crew sent there time to begin construction. So far the most essential parts of the complex were done, and they have begun excavating the ground beneath the crater to accomodate the more sensitive areas of construction. Among these was the nuclear reactor, which was the primary part of the original module. Thankfully it was online without and problems, completely integrated well below the lunar surface.

Donavin Yurka, leader of the large colony, looked out the window at the facilities being built around him, in admiration at the lengths Yurka would go to protect herself. This facility could be the largest, as it was completely safe from most earth satellites, though still most of it would be hidden beneath the surface. At maximum it would be able to hold hundreds of people, though for now there were only a few dozen workers and scientists...

"The Eternal Empire... Safe from the foreign rabble at last... How fitting." He smiled a bit, sat back in his chair, and pulled out a thermos of coffee and began to drink it from a straw. Most things came with a straw on the base, even in the artificial gravity portion built for rest and the daily work out, "Someday... This will all be ours..."

Donavin looked up at the sky, at the depths of space and smiled as the door opened behind him to reveal Alexia Branca in her scientist's uniform. It rather large on her, and the top was left unbuttoned due to the heating system, which still needed some work.

"Ah Alexia, hows our reactor going? Is there a problem?" His voice was calm as he slurped at the coffee, his eyes wandering over her youthful body, "Hmm..."

Alexia blushed a bit under his gaze, "Sir, we'll need another massive shipment of Uranium in the next three months to keep the power being released stable. Can you please order more?"

"Ah, no problem. I'll send it along with the rest of the needed supplies. I'll see you at dinner, right?"

"Y-yeah." She said quietly, seemingly embarassed.

"Excellent. We can discuss our plans." He said with a smile as he turned back to the beautiful expanse of space behind him, turning away from the young girl.

"Plans sir?" She nearly coughed as she repeated him.

"For the Alpha station."

Zion Macrotechnology Corporate Headquarters; Yurka City II

After an hour of preparing, Emperor Drake Yurka III finally entered the room and had a seat at the head of the table, facing the Corporate leader all the way across him, as men and women sat between them along with guards. Ragnarok Beta and Gamma were soon to be launched on the side of the moon facing Earth, and hopefully would draw more attention than Alpha. Karth Grimoire was also there, standing behind the Emperor as still as a mannequin.

"Now..." Drake said eloquently, as if he had rehearsed what he would say days in advance, "Give me the overview on Beta and Gamma..." He smiled a bit as he looked at the dark haired man in a suit at the other side of the room, "I've heard only good things about Alpha, and would like the first of the modules launched at the beginning of the month."

"O-of course, Emperor." The President of Zion said with a smile as he pulled out some paperwork and had it passed to Drake, "As you can see we are more than prepared, though we will need to continue sending supplies to Alpha-"

"So its not done yet?" The Emperor's voice grew a bit annoyed. He had been informed that it would be done far sooner than this, but he maintained calm, "Ah... So what parts do you still need?"

"For now all we need is to send some more Uranium to them. After that all we'll need is to send up the rest of our men and women to get things prepared for the creation of the bases' defense network... We will, of course, be paying for this ourselves."

"Fine. I have no problem with that then, but I would like it done immediately, we can't do something like this without getting attention drawn to it. With only the minimum amount of defenses the base has now any tinpot dictatorship might be able to find out what the bases' true function is. So when can Beta and Gamma be finished?"

"By the end of the year they should both be near completion... Now about the Space Elevator..."

"Start it immediately. We've found a location along the equator distant enough to not draw attention. Your crews will be escorted by a large portion of our Imperial Navy." Drake slowly stood up, knowing that there wasn't much left to state. He was being clear and to the point, as he had other obligations to attend to, "Your payment will be wired upon my return."

"Thankyou Emperor. I have no problem with the conditions imposed upon us. We thank you for this project."

All over the nation numerous modules were sent weekly to the bases, while a few continued going to the other side of the moon's surface. They were loaded with massive quantities of construction materials, uranium, and unknown to most involved, weapons. The crews aboard these would also be spending a great deal of time there before they could leave. Within the first four months, Ragnarok Beta was nearing completion, and Gamma had already begun digging into a crater to begin as well.

As for Alpha base, all of the modules landing nearby were taken into the base itself, disappearing inside. The final phase of the Ragnarok project was coming to an end, and all Yurkan Satellites were prepared to defend it...

Inner-VCD memo

This project is obviously widespread. We are still trying to figure out the source of their materials from our satellite data. Whatever is going on up there, it's far more than a "peaceful space labratory."

Ragnarok Base Alpha; Completed

"Alright? Is everything ready?" Donavin Yurka said wiht a smile as he looked over the dozen of men and women in front of him, the leaders of Alpha bases' different sectors, "If so we can finally start opening them up."

Everyone as the table looked around, muttering to eachother before Asra Preta, the Communications Head Officer stood up and bowed, "All of the other bases have been more or less completed as well. Theres nothing stopping us now, sir."

"Excellent... So without further chatter, Yurka's Grand Masterpiece can make her debut on the lunar stage... Send the message to our engineers."

"Yes sir."

---------Ragnarok Alpha; Weapon Control Room (http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y21/Kutulmak/bscap063.jpg)---------

The underground tunnels were massive, as dozens of white suited men shouted and herded the large group of people manning the underground facility just past the control room's one-way mirrors. The engineers quickly worked in front of their councils under the orders of those in the facility above.

"Alright people! Open all chambers! Raise weapon platforms A through F! Leave the others on standby!"

"Aye sir!"

---------Lunar Surface---------

It started with a slight jolt under a large section of the surfact just south-east of the facility, as a plume of smoke rocketed spaceward. This was quickly followed by another near it, and once again to the east and south of the complex until in total, five massive plumes of moon dust and debris not used in the facility were fired upwards, into the depths of space. As the smoke settled, what took their place were five large platforms, loaded with what appeared to be missile silos, while some were standing next to small drill-like devices aimed upwards. There were more beneath the surface, though for now they would remain there...

The Ragnarok Alpha base's unraveling was quickly followed up by Beta and Gamma on the other side of the moon. Though instead of missiles, Gamma was eventually turned into a large crater-like device, with what appeared to be some sort of slingshot. Beta, on the other hand, was armed more conventionally, like that of Alpha base. In a word Gamma was more or less simply a mining facility for now, to launch large amounts of rocks and other debris into space to later be used by a project further down the line.

Iner-VCD Memo

So that is the purpose of the station. Inform SKYSHIELD that their budget has been increased. We need at least 3.
