American History

Britain's American colonies broke with the mother country in 1776 and were recognized as the new nation of the United States of America following the Treaty of Paris in 1783. During the 19th and early 20th centuries, 35 new states were added to the original 13 as the nation expanded across the North American continent and acquired a number of overseas possessions. The country faced traumatic experiences due to the Civil War (1861-65), but rose greatly in power and prestige after the victory in the Spanish-American War. The US is one of the world rising powers as it contains a huge population, many natural resources, and an economic infrastructure second to none.

The nation is maintaining a fairly isolationist course at this time in the view of world affairs and the public has no wish to get into a European war. On the other hand, the nation is very agressive in enforcing the Monroe Doctrine and seeing to it that the Western Hemisphere is stable and American-influenced.

Diplomatic Message from the Empire of Japan Code:
Message via the Embassy in Washington DCThe Empire of Japan would like to agree to a non-aggresion-pact, or maybeeven an alliance with the United States of America. Negotiations could start immediately, our embassador wil negotiate in name of the Son of Heaven, Emperor Taisho.
Prime Minister Okuma Shigenobu

President Wilson would be delighted to establish friendly relations the Empire of Japan especially increased trading and the establishment of a non-aggression treaty. This treaty shall exist to create better relations in the Pacific and allow our nations to work together to bring the region into the modern world.

On the second point, the United States must decline as it is not in a position to or willing to enter into an alliance with Japan at this time. The administration and public do not want to become entangled in world affairs and will not enter any alliances until it is deemed fit.

The following letter was received by the American Congress in the early hours of August 26. The letter was written by the Kaiser Wilhelm himself.

To the Gracious and Friendly American People:

As I am sure you know, the German Reich has recently been attacked by a coalition of European powers in an attempt to stand up for freedom against terrorism. These vile terrorists attacked and assassinated the Archduke of Austria-Hungary and when the Reich's good Habsburg ally tried to apprehend those responsible, war was declared on us. Military action was prepared for, but the decleration of war and abandonment of peace came from the other powers of Europe. Being the freedom loving nation that you are, you can understand our position. We request that the United States, should she not wish to aid the German people, that they at least remain neutral and, if possible, limit trade with the European aggressors.

Should the mighty nation of the United States seek alliance with Germany, the Kaiser would be delighted and we can begin more intimate talks. We also are aware of your rising hostilities with Mexico wish you the best of luck. We look forward to peace and friendship in the future.

His Majesty,

Kaiser Wilhelm II

Mr. President
As you are well aware elections have recently occurred within the sovereign state of Mexico. I am highly troubled by your governments lack of recognition of these legitimate proceedings. Almost as much as I am trouble d by your governments continual occupation of Veracruz. As the sole legitimate power within Mexico and for the sake of soverity I strongly urge America to withdraw its occupying force from the city of Veracruz and recognize the legitimate government of Mexico. Doing so would do much to settle the chaotic situation within my borders. I eagerly await your reply.
President Victoriano Huerta of Mexico

Transcript to the Government of the U.S.A.

Transcript from Washington DC to Mexico DF

The United States does not recognize the usurper of the Mexican Presidency, Victoriano Huerta, who brought down the previous administration without democratic approval, and became President of Mexico without even being in the ballot for the vote. The United States can only recognize a democratically elected leader to Mexico, and do this for the very good of the Mexican people.

The US calls for new democratic elections in Mexico, ones which are fair and without corruption. Also, the Mexican rebellious militia should put down their arms to help create a better Mexico.

The US will not pull out of Veracruz at this time as the task force there is occupied in protecting US and foreign citizens and rights from the unrest in Mexico. The force only contains some 800 marines and sailors and has no hostile intention and does not play a part in the chaos. The squadron headed by the USS Texas will remain for some time and withdraw when the situation in the area is safe. The US warns Mexico to allow this to go by and leave the US troops alone.

A fleet is being assembled in Hampton Rhodes to consist of 3 battleships, 5 cruisers, and 8 destroyers. This force will take on coal in Havana and then head to Veracruz. In the meantime, a cruiser and two destroyers off Panama will head to Veracruz to reinforce the USS Texas there and the garisson with some 2300 more marines.

US forces on the Mexican border are ordered onto higher alert and some national guard forces are called up in the southwestern states.

The US understand Germany's plight and the circumstances around which it joined this war, and is happy to agree to have no hostile intent with the Kaiser. Despite this, the US will remain neutral for now, and consider possible entangling alliances at another time. The American public is simply to concerned with internal events and creating a better America than anything else now.

The US thanks Germany for its letter and good wishes and reutrns the same to Germany.

To the U.S.A

This is unacceptable, after almost a month of no response, Aye we did indeed grant you additional time for your congress to consider our very generous offer of you to leave us alone, but it is apparent that you refuse to accept our sovereignty. Have you not paid attention to the very things I speak? Withdraw your forces and I will resign and allow new elections. But first you must resign. Mexico is not your lap dog that you may order about. Mexico first and foremost is Mexico no matter how many times you occupy us or step upon us. We will stand as Mexicans, This is your last opportunity withdraw your forces.

To Mexico, DF

The United States has seen the turmoil and problems inherent in Mexican society for some time and is not pleased with the undue danger present to American citizens living in Mexico.

We have recently heard of aggressive Mexican actions around Veracruz and demand that the Mexican government withdraws and:

1)Removes all troops from the region
2)Denounces aggressive action of this kind
3)Apologizes to the US
4)Repays any destroyed property
5)guarantees that American citizens are not harmed by the government or rebels in any way
6)provide some sort of protection for American citizens in dangerous areas
7)assure the US that similar incidents to this one and to the one that occured months earlier never happen again - or are better handled between the nations according to international law

The US will be unable to pull out of Mexico at this time.

The President stresses that Mexico is at fault, and needs to stop and elect a legit government

The US government is calling up more men in the face of hostilities with Mexico, and the House of Representatives is urged to give the President leave to conduct actions appropriate.

The President made a short speach today, saying;

My fellow citizens, it brings me sorrow and consternation that currently, the false government of Mexico has deliberately attacked US troops in the city of Veracruz, starting hostilities with our nation that I, and we did n0t want. The American people must be prepared to fight if needed, but I assure you that the leadership will do all it can to avoid or end this war, though it is thrust upon us.

The Mexican government has been called upon to stop this but the President has created several measure to deal with the situation.
One, 175,000 men are being called up to protect the borders and be prepared for possible actions.
Two, all national guard within the southwestern states, up to 45,000 men, are called to duty.
Three, all Americans within Mexico are requested to return to the States. Four, The American fleet is upgraded to full activity

The President must assure the people of the US, they have nothing to fear and the government will pursue this to the end, thank you

A lone Horseman rides to the U.S.A Border with Mexico. He is quickly apprehended by a boarder patrol, on his person is a signed letter.

To the United States of America,
It is our strongest desire that any U.S. offensive not take place through the states of Sonora and Chihauhua. These Lands have seen enough war within our internal turmoil, there is no need to compound it further. That being said should the U.S. find an alternative path, the Revolutionary Troops stationed within Sonora and Chihauhua, will remain neutral in this dispute between our two nations. While we have no love for the despicable traitor and murderer Huerta, we have no true desire to aid the you against our own country at this time. It remains to be seen whether any action you take will make Mexico a better place. Should your forces insist on trekking through Sonora and Chihauhua, one would not be surprised if no troops trek out of it.

To the great democratic nation of the United States of America:

Switzerland is the bastion of democracy in a continent of imperialist nations. As such, we consider the United States of America our natural allies. Because of the recent conflicts in Europe, we feel threatened that we may be subject to the greed of our neighbours. As such, we turn to you, in all respect, and propose a mutual protection pact, so that we may benefit of a rising power for protection and that you may benefit from a good friend in the center of Europe. If not, then may we at least keep freindly relations through these times of turmoil in the world.

The United States does not negotiate with illegal guerillas who show no respect for governments for the selfish reasons that they wish to seize power for themselves. Despite this, the US has no wish to fight with the rebels Zapata and Villa and hasmerely occupied a vital border city to protect itself rather than invade the northwestern Mexican territories.

Message from Chihuahua

If the American's withdraw from Chihuahua, and promise that no American troops will enter Chihuahua or Sonora, than the armed Militias of these two states will stand down. In addition no Federalist troops will be allowed to pass through these two states, we strongly believe that it is in your best interests and in ours for this confrontation between our two groups not to take place.

The US will consider avoiding the provinces of Sonora and Chihuahua, but do not approve of their leadership due to its anarchical nature. The city of Ciudad Juarez is the exception and will not be abandoned.

Major movements are now being taken by US troops into Mexico involving many divisons.
