Ignorance Has Its Price (Earth II)

The people of Liberia had lasted long enough with a leadership that seemed uninterested, at best, with the people. They were tired of the lackluster approach of government, that is, one where the government was more interested in watching the clock tick then helping its people out. This post-Taylor government was no better at stopping the problems, or even trying to solve them. No matter what action was taken the people never seemed to have enough power, that was until now.

Under the leadership of Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf (although the current Prime Minister, parliaments continual disinterest in government has forced the Americo-Liberians hands) the people gathered outside of the Parliament and started to chant. They chanted for the resignation of Parliament, or more so, the dissolvement of the entire government organization. The people wanted Johnson-Sirleaf to lead the country, as well as a board of military and diplomatic supervisors. This, some reasoned while being interviewed from random outside sources, would bring about a stronger Liberia.

Hours though before Parliament could formerly dissolve a Military General forced all sides hands by butchering Parliament and taking Johnson-Sirleaf hostage, and then executing her. The resulting violence from the civil and now greatly weakened military branch resulted in weeks of civil unrest, almost prompting another civil war, similiar to the 1989 and 1999 fiasco's.

Finally a wealthy and influencial Americo-Liberian named Amos Taylor, no relation to the ousted Taylor. He promised to bring about a strong, civil military and start to socialize the government to work for, not against the people. It wouldn't be long now before Liberia was in good hands.

Official Message from the Russian Federation

We recognize the government lead by Mr. Amos Taylor as the only legitimate government of southern Liberia. We prepared to send any sort of aid to this new government if such aid is requested.

Greek Embassy, Liberian Capital City

The Greek Embassy was a beacon of light in the poor district it was located. It stood out from every other building and the uneducated people of Liberia believed it was the Parthenon itself, since the Embassy was decorated in white marble with Greek architecture.

The ambassador just got off the phone and was really angry. The Rosian placed government fell and it came under the control of Turetel. A nation that Greece has no relations with what so ever. Giorgos, the ambassador, issued a message to the new government for peace. While that was happening outside soldiers fortified the Embassy and soldiers armed themselves. The gates were closed and the only tank was stationed near them. Who knew if this new government was hostile or not and the civilians looked like they were ready to raid the Embassy for any valuables.

To: Government of Turetel
From: Giorgos Andreou

Greetings

I am Giorgos Andreou, the Ambassador at the Greek Embassy. We are worried that this new government will not be able to keep the peace were the Embassy is located. Since the fall of the Rosian government, attacks have been made against the Embassy. The Embassy is technically Greek sovereign land. But if we are not welcomed we will be glad to leave until the civil war in Greece is over.

Amos Taylor's first step in his own government was getting the civil groups under control. He heard that reports of wide-spread looting was occurring and that if not stopped might spread into the Embassy District. This was the last think Amos needed at the time, enemies.

To: Giorgos Andreou

It has come to my attention that the Embassy District is under a major threat, and that, as stated from reports, wide spread looting of Foreign Government Embassies is in progress. We find it in the best interest that you open fire on any Southern Liberian citizen that tries to break onto your Embassies soil. We will try to immediately detach a unit from our small military, which is at no more then 850 men strong. The 66th Civil Guard will be sent with haste to your Embassies lane to try and secure peace in that region.

As a gesture of goodwill we wish to extent our plan to the future to you and the nation of Pushka will also receive this. Under my, Amos Taylor's, direction I hope to raise a military of 180,000 men strong, of which only 27,000 will be a fighting force. When this is completed, we will have hopefully secured the nation and quelled any major unrest, through diplomacy if at all possible. Our foremost goal is to ensure that all nations in the International Community view us as a fair and just nation, for the time being. Our government respects your Embassy and will do our utmost to protect it.

~Amos Taylor

In a broadcast over the Liberian News Association, Amos Taylor has requested that all Southern Liberians accept a cease-fire, and that all parties, including tribal ones, cease all attacks and looting. If not military force will be used to detain, but not kill, individuals. We mean the international community no harm.

In another broadcast on an International News Network Amos Taylor requested aid in the form of rebuilding supplies for ravaged land, and forces from nations, especially naval power so that the Southern Liberians could defend their land.

Once Turetel gave the Greek Embassy permission to open fire a set of loudspeakers, that were saved for these kind of occasions, were set up. They began broadcasting a warning message in English, Greek, and Liberian.

WARNING!

Stay a good distance away from the Greek Embassy. If you refuse to cooperate live ammunition has been authorized and we will not hesitate to open fire. Under the order of the Turetel Government we also ask you all remain peaceful. Fail to do so will result in your arrest.

The gates were opened and the tank rolled out accompanied by 2 APCs. They began patrolling the streets broadcasting the same messages the Embassy loudspeakers were already broadcasting.

Thank you for your cooperation. The Embassy is guarded by 80 highly trained Hoplites. We have 1 tank and 5 APCs. We will be able to keep the peace in this part of the city for some time but reinforcements will be best. We can also spare a few Hoplites to train youre Army in the way the Greek Army is trained.

Unfortunately we have limited supplies of everything so we will need to set up a supply route to a Turetel military base. And since Greece is under civil war no new troops will be able to be sent over. But I assure you once the civil war is over I will try to persuade the new government to aid in the rebuilding process of Liberia.

The Empire shares the same concerns as Greece and therefore we will be watching the development of this new nation carefully before we commit to any relations, good or bad.

Secret Message to new government of Turetel

How many soldiers/guns/ammunition/food/medicine do you need and there do you need them?

The Empire, aware of the situation in and around the Greek embassy, has authorized a supply drop containing food, water, rations, and ammunition. The airdrop will be done via C-17 Globemaster III, flying from the Azores. Should this be acceptible, the Empire will authorize the C-17 to enter Turetelian airspace and drop over the Greek embassy.

All foreign flights related to an embassy, foreign citizens, and aid are always allowed for a 2 year grace period. The Southern Liberian will start to restrict air and naval rights at this time, but until then, any drop for civility is a supported drop.

Also, the Civil Guard's Emerald Unit has entered the tattered Embassy area and has netted 121 people who have been caught looting embassies.
