new cabinet today, which consists of 24 portfolios.
Some Ell-administration portfolios were split, while
some were renamed. Sorantanali named Domenico
Benficalzo, as expected, the SDPM.

Sorantanali names his first cabinet; "one of the most diverse" ever

By Mario Battistuta, Timiocato

Prime Minister Constantino Sorantanali named his first cabinet Wednesday morning, and to the chagrin of bookmakers it was smaller than their betting call of 30. Twenty four Progressive Democrat MPPs were named to Agustinate positions, six more than Dr. Timotaio Ell's 2004-6 cabinet of 18, and most of Sorantanali's appointees were not in Ell's cabinet, as most of Ell's original cabinet retired from politics alongside the now-former PM.

"This executive council that we have named today is one of the most diverse in Pacitalian history," Sorantanali said at a press conference this morning. "In choosing Agustinates, I wanted not only to draw from talents and experience, but after much consideration, I felt it even more important to have the highest branch of government truly represent the demographics of the people."

He added, "All the people you heard named have my utmost confidence, and I chose no MPP I thought would fail to do his or her job to their fullest potential."

Sorantanali's claim about sexual diversity is not false: of his 24 Agustinates, 18 are men and 6 are women. However, that number is bumped to eight when you consider that Sorantanali gave the positions of President of the CAF and President of the Senate to women. Three-term Puntafora MPP Paola Macchianesta will serve in the former capacity while another triple-termer, Sen. Dr. Petra A. Kyriake, will head the Senatoro Federali. It is the first time two women have filled the two positions in the same cabinet.

In addition, Sorantanali's executive council is racially diverse. Only eleven of 24 members are Pacitalian, while five are of Greek descent, and the remaining eight positions split evenly by people of Romanian and Spanish descent. This cabinet marks the first time, remarkably, that a Romanian woman has been named to the cabinet.

Domenico Benficalzo and Luciano Cannavaro, widely tipped to respectively fill the positions of Senior Deputy Prime Minister and Junior Deputy Prime Minister, did just that. Sorantanali said, "My admiration of these men is of the greatest calibre, and there are no others I would wish to have in these offices. I look forward to working with these two honourable, exceptionally intelligent men. They will serve Pacitalia well."

It was a message he repeated when he finished naming all the other positions.

Now, here is the full list of Sorantanali's cabinet.

OOC
The SDPM and JDPM take some of the workload off the PM's shoulders - mostly more of the minor domestic stuff, however, they can both make public statements on foreign issues if they like. However, they are second and fourth in command, respectively, so if the PM dies in office, or resigns his/her government without calling an election, the Comissioneri Alti appoints a caretaker of government. His first choice would then be the SDPM but if he/she refuses (usually because of a conflict of interest), then the CA will next ask the JDPM to become the consigliere degli governmenti. The JDPM's main other job is to, if the PM is unable to attend a parliamentary session, fill in as the party's "leader".

(The Agustinate of Nat'l Defence is third-in-command, if you were curious ;))
