Wilhelmsborough's military build-up thread

Wilhelmsborough
01-02-2006, 06:10
Prince William looked in dismay at the various reports spread out upon his desk. Until this moment, he had been so very unaware of the volital state of the world. The nation of Princstable was facing a rebel uprising, and the Kraven Corporation was making threatening gestures towards smaller nations with Socialist or Communist economies. There was also the terrifying and overwhelming power of the World Anti-Communist League, and it's incredible numbers.

In the face of such matters, Prince William the First came to but one conclusion: The Principality of Wilhelmsborough would have to build up its military.

This would require weapons. The army was currently equipped with AK-47 assault rifles, donated by the fellow nations of the Soviet Union region. But what he needed now was a larger, more expansive variety of guns: Handguns, shoulder-mounted rocket launchers, flame-throwers, sniper rifles, and grenade launchers.

The Prince also noted that he would have to build up a navy and an air force. One could not defend Wilhelmsborough by land alone. He would need fighters and bombers and reconnassance aircraft, as well as fast destroyers and submarines.

There was also the large amount of ammunition, rockets, torpedos, and bombs that he would require, not to mention, the cost in fuel.

Fortunately however, Prince William was not alone is his concerns. The Minister of Defense, General Salazar T. Sherman had been pressuring the Prince to create a national defense plan. He had also put together an engineering team to design new aircraft. Prince William knew nothing about the specifics of their plans other than the fact that they were all going to built around a common theme of Mobility.

There was one other matter of concern to the Prince and that was the matter of Nuclear Weapons. If William knew anything, it was that a nuclear deterrent was a powerful factor in preventing invasion. Fortunately, uranium had been discovered in the southern regions just shortly after taking power. It wouldn't take too much effort to refine it to weapons grade levels. But there was still the matter of a delivery system.

Prince William sighed. A military build-up was going to be more complicated than he thought.

Infoclypse Industries has heard of your nations current military position and wants to inform you that help is here! We want to tell you about an incredible service offered by Infoclypse Industries, namely, the Nuclear Bank! For a small, one time fee, you will be given the launch codes and procedures for a nuclear missile in one of our state of the art Missile submarines. These missiles are primed and tipped with deadly 8 megaton city buster warheads. now I know what your thinking, why purchase these launch codes when you can just build your one nukes? Well, nukes are expensive and dangerous to build, the international community often frowns on nations gaining nuclear weapons and some will even attack those that attempt to gaint he safety and security of a nuclear arsenal. Furthermore, Nuclear weapons are expensive to maintain and even the best defended silos are prone to debilitating preemptive strikes and commando raids. But when you purchase the firing codes to a Nuclear Bank missile, you are purchasing raw distilled destructive power, there's no need ofr upkeep, and if for any reason your missile is destroyed, damaged or otherwise rendered inoperable. Infoclypse Industries will send you codes to an functioning missile free of charge. Purchasing firing codes comes also with a degree of security from anti nuclear nations, wuth modern conveniences like encrypted banking, numbered acounts and secure messaging systems, no nation has to know that you have firing codes to an Infoclypse missile!

Our missiles are ready around the clock for an immediate strike anywhere in the worldm we even maintain a first strike capability including depressed angle firings that can preempt a counter strike scenerio. All you have to do is pay the one time fee of 200 million per missile, and you can have the safety and security of your own secret nuclear arsenal.

Prince William the First looked down at the two documents on his desk. They were catalogs from two major arms dealers: Phoenix Dynamix and Infoclypse Industries. He picked up the catalog for Infoclypse Industries and began to read.

Infoclypse Industries has heard of your nations current military position and wants to inform you that help is here! We want to tell you about an incredible service offered by Infoclypse Industries, namely, the Nuclear Bank!

Prince William blanched. They have nuclear banks now? Gods, the world's gone truly mad. But he shook his head and kept reading.

For a small, one time fee, you will be given the launch codes and procedures for a nuclear missile in one of our state of the art Missile submarines. These missiles are primed and tipped with deadly 8 megaton city buster warheads.

What? The Prince thought. They sell launch codes instead of actual missiles? He laughed nervously. Some hacker is going to have a field day trying to learn them!

Now I know what your thinking, why purchase these launch codes when you can just build your one nukes? Well, nukes are expensive and dangerous to build, the international community often frowns on nations gaining nuclear weapons and some will even attack those that attempt to gain the safety and security of a nuclear arsenal. Furthermore, Nuclear weapons are expensive to maintain and even the best defended silos are prone to debilitating preemptive strikes and commando raids.

The Prince raised his eyebrows. Expensive to maintain, and frowned upon by other nations? That certainly didn't stop you from obtaining them.

The Prince grinned. You know the world's gone crazy when someone is selling nuclear secrets as if he were an encyclopedia salesman.

Purchasing firing codes comes also with a degree of security from anti nuclear nations, wuth modern conveniences like encrypted banking, numbered acounts and secure messaging systems, no nation has to know that you have firing codes to an Infoclypse missile!

Unless of course, you're the only one with this encryption technology. At which point they could trace it back to you, Prince William thought grimly.

For the second time today, the young Prince's face blanched. 200 million Euro per missile! Thats crazy! The Prince sighed. My money's best spent elsewhere. Nuclear missiles will have to wait. Reluctantly, William tossed the Infoclypse catalog into the ever-growing pile of documents that the Prince had yet to get back to.

He then opened up the catalog for Pheonix Dynamix and then looked carefully. Was this a joke? The catalog was a complete blank! There were no deals, no offers, not even a proper website address. Frustrated, Prince William crumpled up the catalog and threw it in the trash.

"Jesus, this really shouldn't be such a chore. It's ARMS DEALING for chrissakes!"

The Prince shook his head in annoyance. Then he noticed he was thirsty. He popped the top on his water bottle and took a long drink.

Satisfied, William turned to the next document. Surprisingly enough, it was from Minister of Defense General Salazar T. Sherman. Perhaps it's the design plans for our new line of aircraft. He thought with cautious optimism. Then he looked at the header on the document and his thoughts of finally seeing Shermans plans were dashed.

The header read: Your majesty, I felt that it would be appropriate to recommend a certain jet fighter for purchase. Take a look. You may like what you see.

Though initially disappointed that Salazar hadn't made any mention of the new designs, his message raised Williams interest. He opened up the accompanying file.

Prince William gasped at the document. Then he began reading, and his face turned to a smile.

Yes indeed, Salazar definately had good taste in war machines. He had definately choosen the best here. It was a jet aircraft designed by one of the old Russian Aircraft manufacturers. It had superior maneuverability, a powerful airframe, and an advanced radar system.

But what really stood out about this aircraft was its shape. It didn't look like most other fighters one would see. Those aircraft had wings that swept backwards. This jet on the other hand, had wings which swept forward.

This jet was the Sukhoi Su-47. The latest in a long line of Sukhoi aircraft. It was the best of the best. Not even an F-22 Rapter could stand up to it in combat and hope to win, to say NOTHING about an F-15 Eagle. It was fast, it was incredibly agile, and it capable of executing the Cobra Maneuver.

The Prince knew at that moment that he had to get a hold of these jets. A dozen of them, if possible, two dozen at best. They would give his nation a greater edge in aerial defense.

All that was needed now was for a seller to come forward...

After careful thought, Prince William the First, Sovereign of the Principality of Wilhelmsborough finished his "shopping list" of aircraft that he would require for the Wilhelmsborough Royal Air Force (WRAF). The Prince looked down upon the sheet of paper which held the information.

12 Su-47 Fighters
24 Su-37 Fighters
48 Su-27 Fighters
200 Sea Harrier FA2 Fighters
100 B-52 Bombers
20 E-3 Reconnaissance Planes
40 C-5 Galaxy Cargo Transport Planes
15 KC-135R Stratotanker Refueling Planes
100 CH-47 Chinook Transport Helicopters
150 UH-60 Black Hawk Attack Helicopters

Of course, the Prince realized the fact that he might not be able to get every single piece of aircraft he requested. But he did know that if you want something bad enough, chances are you will at least get some of what you desire.

Now, all that awaited was for a retailer to come forward. And then there would be the matter of paying for all of these craft...

IC:Official Message from Tech-Com Corporation
"GREETINGS NEW NATION TO THE INTERNATIONAL SCENE! We have noticed that you are trying to arm yourself, and sense we, a weapons producing Corporation, sell these products, you would like to maybe purchase from us? Here are some sample items for the ground:

MBT-66: This State-of-the-Art Main Battle Tank has 37% more armor than a M1A2 Abrams, yet moves at the same speed. The reason for this is instead of using the Abrams Steel-DPU Advanced Composite Armor, we use Titanium-Tungsten Advanced Composite Armor. Titanium is 40% stronger than steel yet lighter, Tungsten is somewhat stronger then Depleted-Uranium and about the same weight. The MBT-66 armament consists of one 130mm ETC Cannon, one 7.62mm co-axial machinegun, and one top mounted 12.7mm(.50 Caliber) machinegun. It has all the electronics you would find on a M1A2 SEP(Special-Electronics Package). Its gun is capable of firing HEAT(anti-APC/IFV/LBT), SABOT(Anti-MBT), and HE-FRAG(Anti-Infantry) shells. Cost:10 million USD per tank

APC-45:This Armored Personnel Carrier is capable of carrying 10 men inside. It has a fully rotatable turret armed with two 30mm rapid firing SmartFlaK guns. These guns are also effective against infantry and unarmored veichles. Also can be armed with ATGM-4 Laser Guided, Fire-And-Forget, Anti-Tank Missiles. 3 million per APC.

M-100 Assault Rifle:This rifle fires about 100 meters more then the AK-74, 10 more Rounds Per Minute, and has a slightly larger clip(34 instead of 30). It utilises 6.8mm rounds and can come with either a gunsight or laser scope. Fires in semi-auto, auto, and burst. Cost:1200 USD per gun.

MDM-1 Anti-Tank Rocket Launcher:This 88mm rocket launcher has a effective range of 1.5 kilometers the M-100 Assualt Rifle and can be fired inside buildings. Unguided, lightweight, portable, and reloadable. Fire from above or behind the tank for maximum penetration. 2400 per launcher.

MDM-4 Surface-Air Missile: Is capable of effectively targeting all types of aircraft, Cruise Missiles, and Short Range Ballistic Missiles(like the SCUD) up to 95,000 feet. A battery also comes with a specialised high powered RADAR and LADAR array capable of detecting and targetting most Low Signature(read:Stealth) aircraft. A battery usually consists of 10 of these fine weapons. The MDM-4 is even capable of targetting large bombs(such as a FAE or MOAB), the missiles are RADAR Guided with LADAR as a back-up. The MDM-4 launcher is a stationary weapon that must be disassembled to move and assembled to fire. The max range is 300 kilometers, with a speed of mach 5. The launcher holds 12 missiles, A single radar array can guide a battery of MDM-4s. The cost for a battery of these is 60 million USD.

M-1 Tunguska RT Mobile Anti Aircraft System: This is a modified Tunguska Mobile Anti-Aircraft Gun/Missile System. Instead of firing 8 SA-19 Missiles, it fires 8 QMSAM(Quick Manueverable Surface-Air Missiles)-10, these missiles at Mach 6 and are LADAR guided. Both versions have a 93% success rate against low-flying aircraft and cruise missiles. This will cost 12 million USD per launcher WITH the missiles.

LRASM(Long Range Anti-Surface Missile)-50: This is NOT a cruise missile but instead a long range missile effective against ships, bunkers, and structures(effectiveness against target type depends on warhead). There are two versions, a air launched one and a surface launched one, the former haveing a slightly shorter range of 110 kilometers instead of 115 kilometers. There are 4 warheads, deep penetration, anti-structure, anti-ship, and chemical delivery(the last warhead is also capable of carrying cluster bomblets). The missile moves above mach-1 and is a surface skimmer making it difficult to hit with CIWS. It costs 100,000 per missile.

Training in above equipment:Each instructor will cost 700,000 American Dollars

We hope these products will fit your needs well. Please contact us soon.

PS:We prefer that you have a place to deliver these weapons."

Prince William smiled. Now this is more like it.

Upon his desk were catalogs for some of the best arms dealers in the world. There was the Pudite Military Arms Storefront, Baltimore Shipyards, Tech-Com Corporation, and The Nine Military Storefront amoung other catalogs.

Prince William looked at the catalog from Pudite Military Arms Storefront. "Now that's exactly the kind of service I like!" Prince William was happy because when PMAS contacted him about making weapons deals, they had actually addressed the matter of what aircraft he wanted to purchase, which plains they didn't have in stock, and possible substitutions that could be made.

It was much better than the companies which simply took the build-up as an opportunity to advertise their businesses. PMAS had actually delivered a personal message explaining what they could do. And he liked that.

The Prince was somewhat disappointed that Pudite didn't have any SU-47s in stock. Oh well, he thought, there are other catalogs, maybe they have some.

As for the recommendation to forgo the C-5 Galaxy for either the C-130 Hercules or C-17 Globemaster, Prince William decided to heed Mr. White's advise and go with the C-17 Globemaster.

He also decided to forgo the Sea Harrier for the AV-8B Harrier II. If Pudite didn't produce the Sea Harriers then he didn't want to waste time insisting that they make them anyway.

He did however, still want the Stratotanker.

And so, with these options on the table, Prince William of Wilhelmsborough compiled a new list of aircraft, and how many of each he wanted.

The list was as follows:

96 Su-27 Flankers
48 Su-37 Flankers
100 B-52 Bombers
200 AV-8B Harrier II Fighters
100 CH-47 Chinook Transport Helicopters
150 UH-60 Black Hawk Attack Helicopters
10 E-3 Reconnaissance Planes
20 C-17 Globemaster Transport Planes
10 KC-135R Stratotanker Refueling Planes

Prince William was satisfied with the new list. All that remained for now was getting the acknowledgement from Pudite Military Arms Storefront that they had all the aircraft ready. Once that was assured, they would be paid. Only after it was confirmed that the money had exchanged hands would the shipments to the Crimean Peninsula occur.

Prince William grinned with anticipation. Everything was moving along well. Much faster than he had anticipated.

Prince William blanched at the figures. 20 Billion Euro! My god! That's going to a drain on the treasury.

Then the Prince looked further down the sheet.

The Prince nodded, forgetting the fact that the room was empty. Yes, that seems like a pretty good deal. 5 Billion over the next 4 years. It should be plenty of time to pay off the debt.

He sighed. I may have to raise taxes though.

William reached for a pen and a blank sheet of paper to which he wrote his affirmation of Mr. White's deal.

Then he contacted the treasury to wire the money to the Pudite Aircraft company.

The Prince was worried. With this major purchase, William's plans for a proper naval and army were going to be set back due to debt. It might be several years before the Prince would recognize his dream of a properly militarized Wilhelmsborough.

He shook his head. There was no time for worrying. After all, he was now the proud owner of an incredible number of defense aircraft. Within a short period of time, he would be at Yalta Airport waiting for them to arrive.

The Prince grinned. This was gonna be great.

Location: Yalta Airport; Principality of Wilhelmsborough, Crimean Peninsula.

Prince William the First looked in with joy as he and his entourage toured the various aircraft that he only just recently purchased. Among the collection of aircraft, there was the vicious SU-37s, the leviathan C-17s, and the dignified B-52s.

Minister of Defense General Salazar T. Sherman was there as well. He was a tall dark skinned man who came from the African nation of Liberia. He worked with William in his campaign to become Prince. William counted Salazar among his oldest and most loyal allies.

Seeing all these aircraft together, Prince William, although very happy, could not help but feel just a little bit worried. The purchase of these aircraft had not been cheap. In fact, Wilhelmsborough was now €15 Billion in the hole. If the country wanted to stay out of debt, there would have to be some belt tightening.

Later that Evening...
Location: Royal Palace

"General Sherman, I need to talk to you." said Prince William.

"Of course, your majesty." Replied the Minister of Defense in a deep African accent.

The Prince was silent as he composed his words. "This cost us a lot of money."

"Yes sir."

"An incredibly large amount of money."

"Yes sir." Sherman repeated.

Prince William sighed. "I don't think that we can afford to do that again for a long time, I mean we gotta pay €5 billion out of our asses every year, for the next 3 or 4 years, just to keep them from repossessing them!"

"Like hell they will, sir." Replied Sherman with a slight edge in his tone.

Prince William smiled. "That's the spirit General. But seriously, they could crush us."

For a while, there was silence.

Finally, the Prince spoke up.

"General, if we are going to maintain this airforce, we can't rely on the outside world to supply us. We need to be self-sufficient!"

"What do recommend then sir?"

"We take a couple of each aircraft, take them apart, and study what makes 'em tick. And then, we'll contract a couple of the big manufacturing companies to reverse-engineer the aircraft. In time, we'll have our own production lines devoted to constructing the warplanes for the W.R.A.F."

General Sherman smiled. "If the old Soviet Union could reverse engineer the American B-29 Superfortress, then I'm sure that we could do the same thing!"

"And think of the economy! Production of military aircraft will put hundreds of thousands, maybe even millions of people to work! We might be able to create a market for small foreign nations which were once in our position!"

General Sherman nodded. "We might even be able to pay off our debt early. I'm sure that the fiscal conservatives would appreciate that."

Prince William laughed. "It sure would Salazar, it most certainly would. By the way, how are those new designs coming?"

General Sherman smiled coyly. "The plans are almost complete. I should have them on your desk by next week."

William nodded. "Ok good. Now then, let's get some companies on the phone, and tell them that we have a job for them."

General Salazar T. Sherman saluted Prince William the First. "Consider it done, your majesty!"

OOC:

Nope. I didn't get the Stratotankers or the SU-47s that I was interested in. And I still gotta work on my army and navy. It'll take a while to get to it because my nation is €15 Billion in debt.

Time:One week after the arrival of the aircraft-
Location: Prince William's office.

Prince William looked at the folder before him as though it were the Holy Grail.

For this file contained the design plans for the new aircraft that General Sherman and his design team had been working on.

Fingers shaking, he carefully unraveled the string that held the folder closed.

And then, he opened up the file and took a look at the wave of the future.

For a moment, the Prince just stared, unable to comprehend what he was looking at. Then he looked closer, and he realized what this object was.

It was an airship! An honest-to-goodness airship! Prince William was stunned. This was what Sherman had spent the past few weeks doing?

But oh, what an airship! This gas-filled behemoth was covered in an array of cannons, turrets, and flak guns. The bottom appeared to be lined with machine guns.

But the top of the airship was the most noteworthy thing about it! Judging by the designs, it looked as if the top of a battleship, with its big guns and conning stations, had been cut off and attached to the top of the airship.

It was unbelievable. Sherman had always been quite bold, but this was something completely out of right field! Salazar had been smart in keeping the design plans a secret. He had meant them as a surprise, and he did it! The Prince was incredibly surprised, in fact he was a bit overwhelmed.

He closed the document and slumped back into his black leather office chair. He would look more into it after he had some time to recover.

RE: Su-47 Replacement

Greetings Prince William,

While the Su-47 is a formidable air supremacy fighter, sadly it is not as advanced as some other designs. While we in the United Sovereign Nations have yet to produce a domestic air superiority fighter of our own, we know and purchase from two foreign arms contractors that can do you well.

Perhaps you should go check out Kriegzimmer Conglomerates (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=409787) sometime. They have a portfolio of expensive (but good quality!) designs, and the Lu-45 "Hawk" Air Superiority Fighter (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=9708782&postcount=533) should do better as a replacment for the Su-47.

If the Lu-45 does not fit your air force, we suggest you visit Detmerian Aerospace (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=380088). The DAS-6 "Scimitar" Air Superiority Fighter (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=7738834&postcount=9) could be fit for your military.

I hope I was of service.

The Prince looked over the design specs for the Lu-45. It was indeed a very impressive aircraft. He was pleased to learn that it was capable of the Cobra Strike manuver, which involved turning the aircraft in such a way that the engines faced forward. This action manuver would slow down the craft in a matter of seconds, causing the enemy to fly right by. It would only take the craft but a couple seconds to resume upright position before it would let its missiles fly.

Yes indeed, it was a very powerful jet, Prince William conceeded. But the fact of the matter was that Wilhelmsborough didn't have enough money in the defense budget this year to pay for it.

A darn shame thought Prince William. But maybe next year.

Besides, he mused, I have to look forward to the rolling out of our reverse-engineered aircraft. He smiled. And the eventual rolling out of the new Leviathan-class Combat-Airships! Yes indeed, the Prince decided to approve General Sherman's designs. All that was needed now was to contract the work out to a manufacturer.

Soon, he thought with glee, the world will see a battleship sail through the air.

[OOC: Not be a pest, but a question: Was the snubbing of WINDS due to my not providing systems you found interesting, because you're interested only in RL systems, or because there was a problem with the link? And, if it's the former, I'd like to know why, in the hopes of improving the products offered.]

Yeah, I was only interested in real life systems, tangible objects which I could clearly see in my head. I'm sorry if you thought I was snubbing you.

OOC: Trust me, unless you have such good writing skills technology doesn't matter any more, RL planes won't stand up too well against NS ones. And how about your prince's reaction to the Isselmere-Nieland DAS-6?

The nation wishes you the best in building up your armed forces. We too had to expand our forces and did so at great expense. However, we had an easier time considering our main industry is arms manufactoring.

Here is a list of the weapons we have for sale. United Defense Industries (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=458937) Do note- it is not complete and is still a work in progress. If theirs a piece equipment on there that you would like let us know and we'll see about adding it. If you have any questions feel free to contact me.

After careful thought, Prince William the First, Sovereign of the Principality of Wilhelmsborough finished his "shopping list" of aircraft that he would require for the Wilhelmsborough Royal Air Force (WRAF). The Prince looked down upon the sheet of paper which held the information.

12 Su-47 Fighters
24 Su-37 Fighters
48 Su-27 Fighters
200 Sea Harrier FA2 Fighters
100 B-52 Bombers
20 E-3 Reconnaissance Planes
40 C-5 Galaxy Cargo Transport Planes
15 KC-135R Stratotanker Refueling Planes
100 CH-47 Chinook Transport Helicopters
150 UH-60 Black Hawk Attack Helicopters

Of course, the Prince realized the fact that he might not be able to get every single piece of aircraft he requested. But he did know that if you want something bad enough, chances are you will at least get some of what you desire.

Now, all that awaited was for a retailer to come forward. And then there would be the matter of paying for all of these craft...

We'll give you all those planes from our aging surpluses for free, in return we want a mineral contract to be the exclusive foreign miners of certain minerals.

Telegram us back for more details.

It had been over a month since Prince William had purchased the aircraft for the defense of the Principality.

Since then things were moving rather quickly.

The reverse-engineering of the aircraft was progressing smoothly. Designs for the 9 models had already been auctioned off to the big three auto manufacturers in Wilhelmsborough.

Caravan Corps was in charge of producing the Harriers, Su-27s, and Su-37s.

O'Donnell and Sons was in charge of the production of B-52s, Chinooks, and Blackhawks.

Ethanhawk Industries, itself relatively new to the manufacturing market, was given control over production of the E-3s, C-17s, and KC-135R's.

And now, The Principality of Wilhelmsborough was producing aircraft of its own. In the time since they were given the approval to manufacture, Caravan had turned out 5 Harriers, 3 Su-27s, and 1 Su-37. O'Donnell and Sons was halfway through their first B-52, but had already turned out 2 Chinooks and 7 Blackhawks. Ethanhawk was halfway through production of their first E-3, C-17, and KC-135R.

Prince William smiled as he thought of the progress being made.

Then his thoughts turned to the construction of the Leviathan-Class Combat-Airship and his smile grew broader.

Production of the new aircraft was moving along fast. The skeletal frame of the airship was halfway complete, and the Helium that would be needed to inflate the vessel was already there. Once the skeleton was completed, the focus would then shift to attaching big cannons, machine guns, and conning towers to the top of the structure.

Once completed and put into service, it would be an intimidating sight for any of the enemies of the Principality. 250 meters of military might flying through the air.

The Prince grinned at the progress that was being made. Everything was working out in the Principality's favor.
