Kiev, The Ukraine
Army Camp outside the City Limits

A lone messenger galloped quickly into the camp, searching for the tent of Barclay de Tolly among a sea of grey, brown and green. After a few moments of search, the young lad noticed the old Commander from atop his horse and immedeately reigned the animal in so as to avoid splattering the distinguished figure before him in the ankle-high mud of the field.

"Lord General, a message for you!" he called, while saluting to de Tolly as his steed trotted to a stop.

Taking the small white envelope from the hands of the soldier, the General read the letter. Upon finishing, he quickly tucked it into the back pocket of his dark green overcoat and glanced back towards the rider.

"Thank you. You're dismissed." he noted promptly, sending the riding off to where he came. Then, in one fluid motion, he summoned forth a stout aide de camp from his tent.

"Call together all the Major Generals of the camp for a briefing in my quarters immedeately. Oh yes, and summon the cartographer as well, it seems His Majesty has altered the plans of his army yet again.

Moments Later...

"My good, sirs." he begun, surveying the room. "It is of the utmost importance that the information I have provided you not be divulged to those under our command. After all, the Ogre has many ears and it is of the utmost importance that surprise is maintained. As a status of combat preparedness is to be maintained, only those assigned to the position of road marshals shall be informed of the next day's route."

"But General." protested one of de Tolly's Generals. "Surely an army of this size will attract attention. How do we intend to move under such secrecy?"

"Of course, attention is inevitable. However, that is where wit comes into play. Thus, to keep the French in the dark, the army will be divided into two portions with the first porition consisting of a small group of regiments under similar orders but on a different route and will put up the facade that it alone is the entire army. Meanwhile, the larger portion will move along a different path more subtely. Of course, to make things more convincing, the armies will leave Kiev at the same time and I shall take command of the diversionary force."

"Then who will command the main army." asked another General curiously.

"I figure Major General Kutuzov will be able to lead the march. Now let us make our preparations. I want the army to be marching by the end of the week."

9 Days Later...

In the dead of night, the assembled army its temporary quarters and made its way westward towards Poland. Rumors did indeed swirl quite rapidly, but it was quickly downplayed as another field exercise as such events had been quite common since the beginning of the French Revolution. However, the journey these forces was about to take was not just for play, but to reclaim the honor lost in Switzerland and to deliver ultimate defeat.

OCC:

General Situation

The 1st Western Army, under the command of Prince Mikhail Illarionovich Golenishchev-Kutuzov, consists of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th Infantry Corps, the 1st, 2nd, 3rd Cavalry and Cossacks Corps, numbering 120,210 men and 580 guns.

The 2nd Western Army, led by General Barclay de Tolly, consists of the 7th and 8th Infantry Corps, the 4th Cavalry Corps, nine Cossack regiments and 27th Infantry Division and amounted to 49,423 men with 180 cannons.

Planned Route:

Below is the currently planned route into the theatre of war. Of course, the majority of territory these two armies will be passing through will not be that of Russia's, however the required nations will be contacted in order to gain permission for such an operation.

Kiev to Krakow: Mostly within Russian territory, although I will enter Habsburg dominated territories towards Krakow. Total distance: 899km.
Krakow to Prague: Habsburg territories. Total distance: 550km.
Prague to Frankfurt: Russian army will navigate through the remiander of Habsburg-owned Bohemia into Bavaria and then into the Palantine. Hopefully, if Austria approves of our armies, these Imperial Princedoms will accept my precense as well (although I'm sure a few extra coins in their pockets might guarantee safe passage). Total Distance: 513km.
Frankfurt to Strasbourg: By this time, the Russian Army will have entered French-held Germany, and thus permission is no longer required to enter such lands. However, depending on the course of events in the Netherlands and Switzerland, Russia may temporarily yield to await her allies. Total distance: 219km.

That makes the total journey a combined distance of 2181km or 1355 miles. Noting that the typical army of this size during the 18th Century traveled at roughly 7 to 8 miles per day, it will take roughly (counting bad weather, periodic rests and other inconviences) 196 days to reach Strasbourg if all goes well.
