The August chambers of the Royal Palace were alight with decorations of glamour and wealth, glory and splendour. The massive building was lavishly decorated with rich golds and silvers, along with the purple colours of the Royal Family, with celebratory banners everywhere. Outside the Palace, thousands of citizens thronged against the gates of the Palace grounds, celebrating and waving the purple cross that was the national flag. Cheers and flyers were thrown into the air everywhere. Along the walls of the Palace grounds; immaculately prepared Royal Guardsmen resplendent in their purple and silver formal dress uniform stood sternly and smartly to attention to protect the inner sanctum of the Royalty from any possible security intrusion.

Inside the splendour of the Palace sat hundreds of invited guests, dignitaries and aristocrats that made up the Feudal system upon which the Kingdom of Jacksonapolis was, and indeed had been based for several centuries. Dukes sat with Lords, Knights and Barons in their gloriously crafted robes and uniforms of state, along with the highest military officers in the Jacksonapolis Armed Forces of the Crown, each sitting smartly in their own dress uniforms and shining chests of medals and awards. There was a low hum of conversation in the Great Hall, and the general discussion was focused on the empty throne that stood on an elevated platform at one end of the room. Next to the throne stood the Archbishop of Jacksonapolis, standing ready to perform his duty.

Within moments, the hall was silenced as the Jacksonapolis Philharmonic Orchestra began with a rousing chorus of the national anthem, ‘Land of Hope and Glory’. The entire assembled crowd turned to rear of the hall as the next King of Jacksonapolis entered the hall. Resplendent in Royal Purple robes, the man walked slowly down the length of the hall before stepping onto the podium and bowing to the Archbishop, representing his humbleness to the service of God. The Archbishop returned the bow, and then instructed the man to sit.

“With the spirit of God, in service to the Almighty,” the Archbishop began. “With the blessing of the subjects of the Crown and the Priesthood of the Christian Church, we hereby recognise the following change in the Almighty’s representative on this planet for Jacksonapolis, the divine and almighty ruler of the subjects of the Jacksonapolis Crown.”

The Archbishop turned, picking up the purple and silver crown that was held on a purple velvet cushion by one of the Churches’ adjutants. Turning again back to the man on the throne, the Archbishop then uttered a short prayer of sanctification before lowering the crown onto the man’s head. Turning to the silent assembled, the Archbishop opened his arms and announced, “King Richard is dead. Long Live King Julian!”

The orchestra swung into a full song of the anthem as the assembled stood, and bowed before the new King. The twenty-eight year old new ruler of the Absolute Monarchy smiled; this was his day.
