Lord Philip Rosecrans faces the daunting, and lonely,
task of rebuilding a destroyed Federal Government.
Rosecrans takes helm of the damaged Ship of State
Lord Rosecrans, the reluctant Lord Protector of the Realm, took swift and drastic action today to reverse the damage done by the Regency of former Senator Bernard Charles Allenby, Jr. He issued Executive Orders that ended Martial Law across the League and ordered the immediate and unconditional release of all prisoners held in the Secure Housing Centers. By order of the Lord Protector and the Royal Senate, the Royal Police were disbanded at six o'clock in the morning and senior military officials in all Royal Armed Forces branches allied with the Regency have been issued with arrest warrants. Lord Rosecrans issued a statement saying that "all care will be taken to ensure that all allegations of crime are properly investigated. Any and all trials for crimes committed during the Regency will be held to the highest standards of Hamptonian jurisprudence."
The deposed former Regent, Mister Allenby, is currently being held in an undisclosed military prison along with other former members of the Senior Cabinet. Officials from the Hamptonian Red Cross were allowed earlier today to visit the prisoners. At the Senate's early morning session, Mister Allenby was ejected from that body and all his titles have been voided. It is expected that government prosecutors will file their charges against the former Regent by the end of the week. The trial, to be held in front of the Supreme Court of the Realm, is expected to begin by the end of the month. The Chief Justice of the Realm, Lord Pemberton, was quoted as saying "the Supreme Court will hear all relevant arguments. The facts of the case will determine whether or not Mister Allenby is indeed guilty of whatever the government decides to charge him with, if indeed they charge him with any crimes."
Political parties have already begun to distance themselves from the period of the Regency. The Nationalist Republican People's Party, the New Frontier Union and the Center Party all voted themselves out of existence last night in extraordinary emergency sessions. Senior aides in the Royal Congress have also indicated that within the next few days the Senate will ask the Lord Protector to officially dissolve the entire Congress and call an emergency session of the Great Althing. The Great Althing, if called, would be able to reform the Basic Law and Charter of the Grand Duchy and by dissolving the Royal Congress new elections would be able to be held within three months. The last time the Great Althing was called to session was in 1885 when it produced the Charter on the Rights of the People.
The first true test of the Lord Protector's ability to rebuild the shattered nation will be tomorrow afternoon when he is scheduled to address the Royal Senate in a televised address. It is not known what measures or proposals he will discuss.
[OOC: This is the continuation of the end of this (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=448051) thread.]
