The Balkan fleet set sail today from Venice, they are heading towards Durres a port in the Principality of Albania with a large force of infantry and a smaller force of cavalry on board.

Whilst in Tirana, capital of Albania, Prince Wilhelm was reading a telegram from the Italians that demanded that he gave their troops free reign in Albania, allowing them to march towards nearby Serbia. Wilhelm knew that this must surely be a ruse, it was now well known that Vittorio Emanualle III had had his eyes on Albania for a long time. But would they be able to keep them out, that was the question. Peaceful annexation or a violent one those seemed to be the only options for Wilhelm.

The tiny kindom was in chaos. Prince Wilhelm had announced his surrender to the Italians and escaped to Greece. The army - one division - had informed the public that it would follow the last orders of the legitimate ruler, but several mountain tribes and clans were arming themselves, and anarchy was spreading in the streets of Tirana. As the police was mainly formed of various militia and hired tribesmen, who were heading now joining the various gangs and robbing stores and post offices, it was both unable and unwilling to secure the peace.

In only few days had the country, mostly because of the cowardness of its leader, fallen deep in disruption and uncontrolled violence. Officially, it was now open for the Italians to come, but the mountain tribes, who were enjoying their freedom to rob and pillage, weren't too happy to hear that "veniciros" were to come and occupy their lands.

14 ships sailed into Durres the same day that Wilhelm fled the country. Over the next few days 20,000 Italian Infantry secured the city and the surrounding area. In an effort to reduce rioting and other such actions in the city and elsewhere it was declared that each city would elect a City Council that would act as a local authority. Many prominent members of Albanian society were invited to become menbers of their local City Council.

After securing the area the army split into three smaller contingents, one of 10,000 men and two of 5,000 men. Divisione A was to head directly to Tirana to take the capital as quickly as possible. Divisiones B and C were sent south to gain the trust and support of the southern districts.

Also three more forces were sent from Naples on transport ships. One was a garrison force sent to Durres. The second was a small force of 5,000 men who were sent to the northern port of Shenjin. The last force also numbered 5,000 men and was sent to the southern port of Vlore.

The only Russian fleet near enough to posibly make a difference would be in the Balkans, but they would probably be trapped by the ottoman Empire, because the Ottomans refused to let anyone pass through the Dardenelles strait
