Explorer searching in the southern rainforests have found a vast civilization of elephants with many interesting and intriguing parts. The explorers were stunned upon seeing an elephant city. As Lawrence Pachy, the group leader, stated: "It was amazing! No one thought it was possible. There were elephants walking around dressed in some clothing made of leaves, branches, and grass. Even more, there were log cabins that appear to serve as homes and other buildings..."
The team decided to try and make contact with the elephants. The first attempts were met with surprise and a few sharpened sticks pointed towards them. But elephant expert Alexa Derm stepped forward and attempted to communicate and show that the humans came in peace. Once convinced through hand motions, the team was brought to the palace of the leader. The palace was a much larger structure than the rest and had actual doors unlike other buildings. In addition, it was made partly of stone. Also, the inside was highly decorated with wood sculptures, paintings, and other things.
The team met with the elephant leader, a female named From-the-Sky V, and began to communicate with her. Elephant history has gone back hundreds of harvests and they have been unable to figure out when. The team was given a tour of the city. There was a housing section, a government and public service section, and an work section. The housing was mainly rows of houses that looked more or less the same. The second section included the palace, a fire brigade, prefecture, and a sort of market place. The last section had warehouses and guilds for mining and farming.
The elephants made a resevoir and canal to get water from a lake to supply water for drinking, farming, and putting out fires. Farming was mainly a section of purpose-grown trees and shrubs. The elephants did use fire for baking, heat, and light. Also, they had a salt mine and a quarry. The stone was used partly in buildings and also for weapons. The elephants said they do make war against other cities over land and plain power. Some have even made mini-empires.
Several elephants from the city have been brought back to the main area of Sel Appa where the elephant language will be translated and for culture differences to be studied. Also, part of the team remained in the city for the same reasons. Sel Appa says it wishes the elephants to unite as one group and is considering expanding voting rights to the elephants.
