Veni Vedi Vici (V3) is an Earth set a short ways into the future, as indicated by the title. The storyline is fairly basic, but goes something like this:
Roughly 500 years ago World War Three devastated Earth in a suprisingly non-apocolyptic manner. The long-predicted nuclear massacre never took place due to the foresight of the nations involved.
A combination of sabotage and a new anti-nuke satilite network meant that only about %5 of the warheads that launched (or attempted to) actually detonated, although these devastated the American East Coast, parts of Europe, Southeast Asia and some of South America, they had nowhere near the effect estimated. The worst effect was a mild climate shift to the warmer side of things, although this caused Africa to desecend into Anarchy and killed a large portion of Brazil's rainforests, it did make places like Canada and Siberia much more habitable.
In any case, interplanetary spacetravel and a 'New Age of Imperialism' are important, the 'Big Six' (the USA, PROUS, USSR, German Empire, India and China) have a fairly large population set up on Mars and a few smaller colonies on Venus. Mars is in the process of being terraformed and has a somewhat breathable atmosphere, although physical activity outside of walking requires oxygen tanks.

Please note that nations colonies on Mars and Venus are VERY independant compared to earthbound colonies due to the sheer distance and the time it takes to reach them (although its not that long, two days to a week). The colonies are quite autonamous and may be fun to RP, should we run out of nations on Earth.

given the proximity of China i'd be more inclined to play it as a partly communist state if China is still following the teachings of Chairman Mao.

Ive posted a rough history on the forum under Announcements, it should give you a rough idea of what to expect. China's current situation is really up to whoever decides to play China, but SouthEast Asia took a beating in the Great War, and you have large powers on three sides. It'll be interesting though, if your a commie, I suggest getting the Soviets to supply you against the Capitolist pigs ;)

For recent events:
-the Australian Empire has launched a mission to establish a colony in the Asteroid belt. If they succede, will the result be similar to the bloody action on Mars just after the Great War? A vicious race to grab the most, acompanied by a series of wars on Earth?
-The Indian Republic is expanding its own settlements on Mars. The other five major nations on Mars may view this as a source of some nervousness, or not. Regardless, keeping the balance on Mars seems to be a key issue now.
-The Soviet Union has begun supplying an African state, apparently in an effort to sieze land in the area. The Peoples Republic of Bissau may rapidly become the dominant African power if no other nation steps in soon.
-Britain has begun expanding its own possessions in South Africa, perhaps an attempt to rebuild British colonialism in the area after nearly six hundred years.
