Archer class corvette

The Archer class corvette is a new design from Laksevag Naval Shipyards, and represents the newest in coastal protection and riverine warfare.

The Archer class measures 92.40 meters from bow to stern, and has a beam of 11.30 meters. This combined with a draft of 4.19 meters, allows it to enter even the shallowest of rivers and fjords. The displacement, fully loaded and ready for action comes to 1,530 metric tons, makes it a lightweight combatant.

The Archer class is powered by two DABB DMD-992 Marine Hybrid-Diesel engines, each generating 10.43 megawatts of power with a combined output of 20.87 megawatts, or 28,000 shaft horsepower. This power is sufficient to propell the Archer class through the water at speeds up to 31 knots, which is the maximum speed obtained during testing the Archer class. However, it is recommended that the maximum cruise speed be kept to 28 knots or less, so the engines and the two shafts aren't burned out. The Archer is propelled using two CRP propellers. The endurance of the Archer class in terms of fuel is limited to 1,000 nautical miles if travelling in a constant speed of 17 knots. Normal food supply aboard the Archer class allows for a deployment of up to 60 days.

Spanning over two decks in the hull itself and two in the superstructure, the five officers and fifty-five enlisted men crewing the Archer class has plenty of room. All efforts has been made to make the crew comfortable, with a dedicated recreation room equipped with a media center, wireless Internet access, satellite TV and a billiard table. As for crew quarters, the officers have single cabins located on "B" deck in the superstructure, while the enlisted frolick in 10 four-berth cabins and five three-berth cabins, located on deck "C" in the hull. All quarters are equipped with bunks, toilets and a desk, but the officer quarters are fitted with showers as well.

In terms of aviation, the Archer class can sport a helicopter up to the size of a SH-60 Seahawk, which fits into its hangar in the aft of the superstructure. The helipad can support up to two Seahawks or similar helicopters.

As for the armament of the Archer class, the primary armament is its missiles. In the 8 Mark.51 vertical launch cells, all missiles which normally fits into a Mark.41 cell fits. Other missiles carried are four Harpoon-type missiles in a Mark.141 Boeing Quad launcher mounted on the forecastle of the superstructure and one Mark.49 box launcher for the RIM-116 Rolling Airframe Missile mounted on the aft of the ship. 21 RIM-116s can be carried. For close-in defense, two Mark.99 30mm CIWS mounts are carried, each carrying 6,000 30mm shells. For self-defense, one Mark.65 57mm cannon and four MG26A2 heavy machine guns are mounted. This allows for the Archer class to be capable of defending itself against pretty much everything up to a destroyer or light cruiser.

The combat systems carried are limited, due to the mission of the Archer class. It is equipped with a AN/SQQ-99 high frequency sonar array, which enables the Archer to see underwater threats from quite some distance away. The exact range remains classified, but it is rumored to be up to 30 nautical miles away. As for surface search, the Archer has a AN/SPS-84G radar array, enabling it to see across the horizon. It is also capable of linking its weapons systems with other ships using the Datalink-63 system. Using the same datalink system, the Archer class can also be a part of the digital battlefield. As for countermeasures, the Archer is equipped with the Prarie/Masker sonar avoidance system and IR suppressing systems. It is also equipped with the venerable Nixie decoy.

The Archer class is defended passivly by 20 millimeters of TKCS armor, which is a mix of titanium, kevlar, composite materials and steel incorporated into a elaborate scheme, which has an RHA equivalent of one to four, something which means that one millimeter of the armor scheme used is the same as four millimeters of steel.

The annual running cost for the Archer class corvette comes to $200,000 per vessel if you are to keep the ship at prime condition. The current going price for the Archer class is $40 million per ship, or $30 million to very close allies. All ships sold will be delivered with a full load of ammunition and missiles.
