Geographical Information: The Republic of Politya is situated on a small island in the Atlantic, sitting on the Equator line itself. As such, the Republic’s geographical differences vary as they move towards the centre of the island where it crosses the Equator line, with greenery and tropical rainforests along the edges of the island where water sources feed the plant-life and desert areas situated in the centre where the heat and lack of water sources make it difficult for any kind of life to survive.
Economic Information: The economy of the Republic of Politya bases itself mainly on primary activities, with mineral extraction and farming being particularly large sectors of activity. Extraction materials that are currently sold on the international market are coal, iron ore and gold minerals, whilst farming is largely crop-based and physically intensive, comprising wheat, barley, cotton and sugar beets.
Government Information: The Republic of Politya is a Federalist Republic, where power is distributed through different levels of the government system so as to ensure a minimal abuse of powers where such abuse may take place. The governmental structure is divided into the Executive, Legislative and Judicial sections;
The Executive is comprised of the Office of the President of the Republic and, where the President is indisposed for whatever reason, the Officer of the Vice-President of the Republic. The roles of the Executive are limited; the President largely performs a diplomatic and figurehead role for the Republic. The Executive also gives assent to legislation passed, and also has the power of veto. The President is also the de facto Commander-in-Chief of the Republic Military, and is the only person able to authorise military action and employ the use of unconventional forces. The Executive also appoints the Cabinet and the judicial section of the government, pending legislative approval.
The Legislative is comprised of a Cabinet and two houses; the Republican Congress and the Republican Senate make up the lower and upper houses, respectively. The Cabinet is appointed by the President and heads the Legislative and proposes legislation to be debated upon in the Congress. The members of the Cabinet are also heads of the individual government departments that undertake enacted legislature, and thus represent their departments in public. If approved by a majority of Congressman, legislature is sent to the Senate for debate and further analysis. The Senate therefore decides whether to send legislation back to the lower house for modification or to send the legislation to the President for Executive assent. If legislation is vetoed by the Executive, it is sent back to the Senate whereby a vote is held; if a majority of Senators vote in favour of the legislation then it is passed into law despite the Executive veto. The Congress and the Senate also vote on Executive appointments to the Judiciary and the Cabinet in the same way as legislature is approved.
The Judicial section of the government comprises a Supreme Court that monitors the other two sections of the government in order to ensure that the actions of the Executive and Legislature are not contrary to the Constitution of the Republic. They have the power to block legislation from becoming law even if the two other sections of the government agree, and can send the legislation back to the Legislature for alteration.
Aside from this, each County within individual States maintain a County Council that is locally elected to manage local provision of services, for example waste reclamation and directing local funding.
Social Information: The population of Politya is demographically varied, with the largest sections of the populace of Western European origin, closely followed by those of African origin. Other minorities include Asian, Indian and smaller groups of other ethnicities and nationalities. Polityan society is particularly liberal at this time, seen in the election of the Liberal Party into majority groups of the Legislature and the Executive, and maintains the right to bare arms in the case of the government becoming too oppressive.
Military Information: The Republic Armed Forces comprises a voluntary, professional military force. Training varies depending on the area of the armed forces; infantry, aerial and naval forces undergo six months of basic training, whereupon they have the ability to undergo advanced training, whilst officers in the Army, Navy and Air Force must attend four years at the Politya Military Academy before entering active service.
