The time had come. Governor Paul D. LeDuc had decided enough was enough was enough. The federal government was simply out of control. A never-ending war in Iraq, international hostility and scorn, run-away defecit spending, a perilously endangered economy in freefall, and the ever encroaching menace of socialism all imperiled the nation's future. Governor LeDuc, a fierce proponent of Minnesotan independence and leader of the Minnesotan Front party, decided to take matters into his own hands.

"We, the People of Minnesota, do hereby declare our independence from the United States of America, in the name of free-market capitalism, peace, justice, Western civilization, and Christianity. We do thus sever our links to the federal government- or, shall we say, federal leviathan- and do hereby establish the Republic of Minnesotan Federation as an independent nation. We refuse to remain subservient to a socialistic, warmongering welfare state that shackles and suppress its citizens at home under the iron heel of Big Government, and rampages in distant lands abroad. We swear to uphold the principles that have made Minnesota great, and we commit ourselves to a free, democratic, capitalist, peaceful, non-aligned, neutral state where men and women of every race, color, religion, sexual orientation, and political ideology can live together in cordial harmony. So it is written, so it is done. On this date, 26 January A.D., the Minnesotan Federation is henceforth an independent nation."

He signed the document at the bottom, as did his cabinet, aides, and prominent members of the legislature. The document was promptly sent to Washington, D.C. LeDuc crossed his fingers and prayed for the best.

Would the international community recognize what was, in effect, a rogue nation?

I doubt the US will make such an attack. They are bound for mass civilian casualties, and while the US seems to have no qualms with that in the east, I doubt those hyprocrites would risk it in the West.

Minnesota is landlocked ... I doubt you could run a very good blue/brown water fleet on the Great Lakes.
OOC: Even still, Sarzonia, whose country is also based on the USA (it also fell due to domestic conflict, which was the result of perhaps not surprisingly the Second Gulf War), also sells land warfare and air warfare products. Perhaps the Z-33 Jaguar will make a fine MBT for you, MF....cheaper than it's successor, and quite efficient.

The issue is of concern to us, because, we also became independent of the US and with our military in shambles, the US may be tempted to invade us if they can't invade Minnesota.

Well then you are also welcome to attend. We can make it a conference on the futures of the splinter states of North America, not just on Minnesotan independence.
