The Govt. of the Armed Republic of Hamilay

Recently our nation was born with the unification of the warring city-states of the region of Hamilay. A dictatorial regime was installed, ultimately overthrown by the people and the army in favour of a Republic. This occasion is to celebrate this fact.
The Parliament of Hamilay invites all nations to send an envoy to a Banquet celebrating the founding of the nation of Hamilay and the first free democratic elections.
The President of the Republic of Hamilay looks forward to establishing friendly international relations with fellow leaders. We would be honoured towards all nations who would make their presence known at this celebration.

Sincerely Yours
Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade
Rt. Hon. R. E. Fletcher

OOC: Well, I've just joined this game as you may have guessed. I'm pretty newbish to RPing so any constructive criticism would be appreciated. I read the stickies and they were helpful, I got this idea from there.

A message for you:

To: The Office of The Presiden of the Republic of Hamilay
From: The Imperial Office of His most Holy Satanic Majesty, the Emperor of MelekTaus

I, the Emperor of MelekTaus, welcome you to the international fold. I will be personally attending this formal event, and shall be acompanied by two Brotherhood Special Forces guards. Both will only be armed with concealed pistol weapons for my protection.

We understand you are only a fledgling nation, and as such, we would be willing to enter discussions on the possibility of a military alliance. The Nation of MelekTaus is willing to act as a protectorate for your country in the even of a much larger nation declaring war on you, untill such time your defenses are capable of defeating your foes. However, this is all future discussion material.

I look forward to further discussions and peace talks.

I just find it so much easier to use IM services for diplomatic discussions. Do it on the boards, people see it, and despite anything they say, they still act upon what you say in some manner, even if it's a 'secret' IC. Also, Telegraphs are annoying to use, since it's slow, and when you're on the forum, you have to trek all the way back to NS, just to check if you've even GOT a Telegraph.

Communique to the Right Honourable R. E. Fletcher, Minister of Hamilayan Foreign Affairs and Trade

Greetings and welcome to the international sphere. The Archduke Philip IV extends his welcome and congratulations on throwing off the shackles of a repressive tyranny. Our Grand Duchy was spared from the turmoil of full-out war for our independence, but we sympathise with your nation and people. Chivalry and the goodwill of man still exist, and those who endeavour to improve themselves, their society, or their nation need only to look around to discover more friends than they could ever expect. Seek pride in your country and pride in yourself. Indeed, the Hamilay national motto rings true. Dulce Et Decorum Est Pro Patria Mori.

While the Archduke regretfully cannot attend this banquet, we offer our friendship and aid. The Archduke understands that Hamilay is a fledgling country and has personally inquired as to what sort of aid, if any, Hamilay may be in need of. The wrath of war in our modern day means many lives lost and much infrastructure obliterated. If there is a need, we pledge to aid your nation as best we can.

Respectfully submitted,
--JEAN RATIGNOLLE, Marquis de Graignon, Personal Secretary to Archduke Philip IV

(OOC: I'm just getting back into the swing of things, too, so I apologize for any errors.)

We give our thanks to the nation of Monte Ozarka and its ruler Archduke Philip IV for their support and kind words. Fortunately, due to the fact that the people presented a unified front against the regime our nation was spared great loss of life and damage. However, Hamilay is in need of modern conveniences such as appliances and vehicles and also more up-to-date weapons for our military. We would be happy to trade Uranium or our famous cheeses for these.

After meeting with his Cabinet, the Archduke has an offer to propose to you and your nation. We will make the proper provisions to get Monte Ozarkan manufacturers to invest in your nation. Boggs-Goulder, the second-largest manufacturer of household appliances in the GDMO, and Gravis Auto, the fifth-largest personal automobile and third-largest industrial automobile manufacturer in the GDMO, have both shown particular interest so long as you agree to the following terms:
The companies will each set up a factory employing 1200-2000 personnel daily.
The land on which these factories are built will be sold to the companies at fair market value within your country.
Copyright and trademark laws are enforced.
The Hamilayan government shall pay for 20% of the upkeep for the factories.
The Hamilayan government shall be given 35% of the stock in the named companies' Hamilayan divisions.
The Hamilayan government shall export to the GDMO 5 tons of enriched uranium ore and 5000 tons of depleted uranium yearly. Should the Hamilayan government require assistance in the mining or transport of these materials, the GDMO government will be happy to assist at little to no cost.

As a sign of goodwill these companies have donated 250 microwaves, 250 personal refrigerators, 75 central heating units, 100 '03 model family sedans, and 20 heavy transport trucks. They are arriving via tanker (OOC: Got a port?) and should reach your coast in approximately 1.5 weeks. (OOC: Let's call that a RL day.)

The Hamilayan government thanks the GDMO and the companies involved for their gift of much-needed consumer goods. [OOC: yep, we have a port] After review of the terms put forward, we find these acceptable and accept your offer. However, we do not have the resources to transport the required uranium supply. The GDMO would need to supplement our shipping with their own.
We are confident this deal will be mutually beneficial to both our nations.

The Hamilayan government is interested in the opening of all new trade routes at this point in time. We are particularly in need of fossil fuels such as oil and gas or precious metals including gold and platinum. If the FedAB has a surplus of these they are willing to trade with the Republic of Hamilay, we would be particularly glad to open commercial relations.

To Rt. Hon. R. E. Fletcher, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Hamilay -
We are glad to see a fellow republic reach out into the world community. We would like to set up a 20,000 square foot embassy in your capital, and hereby present to you the credentials of Ambassador Peter Schwartzkopf, who will be representing The Beltway at the banquet, for your consideration. He, his family, fourteen staffers, and twenty guards (armed with MP-5 submachine guns) will live and work in the embassy. We would like diplomatic immunity for misdemeanor offences and to set up a helipad with two unarmed S-70 Black Hawk helicopters. If you wish to reciprocate, contact us here (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=464604). Thank you.
Sincerely,
Mark Warner, Foreign Minister of The Beltway

To Rt. Hon. R. E. Fletcher, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Hamilay -
We would prefer a free trade agreement between our two nations. Failing this, we will authorize our corporations to purchase your cheese and uranium and sell our fiber-optic networks. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Michael E. Busch, Commerce Minister of The Beltway

Well done! I'm also rather new to the forums; two things I've found useful are: put up a foreign ministry, which you've done here, and put up a factbook, which, although it takes a while, is really useful for helping decide the nature of your nation. Further, I'd recommend staying out of wars, both for IC and OOC reasons. IC - wars are damaging to the economy; we're still in recovery mode from two early wars. OOC - wars are difficult to RP and tend to be massive, so it's useful to keep things small at first. If you really want to RP combat, either hold military exercises or take out a pirate nest/terrorist base. Have fun!

The Divine Imperial Reich welcomes you to the international stage. As part of our ever-growing diplomacy program, we wish to extend a hand of friendship and co-operation with your young nation. We shall like to work out the exact details of this alliance over secure channels, or perhaps at this banquet you offered us. I, Stewardess Isabella Reinhard will personnel be appearing at the afore mentioned banquet. I request to bring along with me three to six bodyguards, armed with .22 Caliber handguns. Or if this is not suitable, I will drop the bullets down to 9mm. How ever, I do require my men to be able to posses firearms of some type at this event.

In a spacious office overlooking a wooded terrace in Reisz...

A man in khaki slacks, brown loafers, and a white oxford shirt with the top button unbuttoned sat on his desk. The desk is moderately cluttered with memos and half-read reports and a brass nameplate that read:

Sir Marcus Annaly, Baronet
Minister of Commerce

He balanced a legal pad on his thigh and held a phone up to his ear.

"No, Minister, none...Oh? That's alright, we'll be able to help you with that...Just so-...Yes, just so long as the material can be produced...How about monthly shipments?...We'll bring a tanker every month to one of your more secure ports. Don't want this stuff to be falling into the wrong hands, ya know...We'll contract out private contractors...Cranes and tractors and all that jazz...From the processing plant to the port? Yeah...Okay?...Okay, I'm glad we got all that finalized...Thank you, great doing business with you, too."

(OOC: That was my side of a hypothetical conversation I would have with one of your ministers finalizing the deal. The jist: I accept and I'll do transport--monthly shipments.)

The Republic of Hamilay thanks the nations of The Beltway and Tocrowkia for their support. We notify The Beltway that their wish to set up an embassy in our capital of Sayenna is welcome. A plot of land has been allocated to you of the size you requested on Embassy Row, in the Government District. We would like to reciprocate in kind with establishment of a Hamilayan embassy in The Beltway's capital. Our ambassador, who has not been selected at this point, will be accompanied by his immediate family of four, ten staff and twelve soldiers of the Republican Guard. A vacant building suitable for use as an embassy would be preferable rather than an empty plot. We hope these terms are acceptable to The Beltway.

Hamilay thanks the Reich of Tocrowkia and Stewardess Reinhard for their presence at this occasion. The bodyguard detail you propose to bring is acceptable. We shall hope to discuss the terms of this alliance at the forthcoming banquet.

The convoy of three luxury cars pulled to a stop outside Parliament Hall. Their doors clicked open and a dozen occupants exited.
The President of Hamilay walked towards the entrance towards the Hall, flanked by his Minister of Defence, Minister of Foreign Affairs and two Republican Guard. He adjusted his tie and wiped his brow with the silk handkerchief he kept in his suit pocket. This was the moment. After three years of war and oppression, his dream for Hamilay had finally been realised. The dictatorial regime had been overthrown and his nation was poised for growth in economy and power. This was the time to celebrate that success. This was his hour.
He smiled and was snapped out of his reverie when he passed through the Parliament Hall doors. Already the main foyer was full of staff and soldiers preparing for the arrival of foreign leaders and high-ranking Hamilayan politicians. Two violinists were setting up by the stage and trays of food were being carried in to place on the long banqueting tables.
The President took his seat at the head of the central table and adjusted his tie apprehensively.
