The Milliard-class Superdreadnaught

The Milliard class Superdreadnaught was developed to replace the aging Argentine Class Galleons serving in the confederate Navy, as well as to comemorate the breaching of the 1 Billion population mark for the first time in Confederate History. Enlisting the help of Silver Sky National Arms, Naval Warfare Department they have developed this next generation design.

The ship is the result of years of expertise in Superdreadnaught Combat as well as several million man hours of wargames between the ships newer generation Zealous Class Superdreadnaughts and squadrons of Rommel class Battleships and Indestructable Class Carriers working together. With this massive base of expertise the engineers at the Confederate Arms and at Silver Sky National Arms, have created what they believe will be one of the best Superdreadnaughts to serve in the Confederate Navy or in that of the Skyian Armed forces, should it ever be deployed there.

HULL

The hull of the Milliard is based upon the Zealous, Neptune and Argentine class hulls, the superdreadnaughts currently serving in the Confederate Navy. The Hull is as with normal conventions a trimaran based system, made up of a large central hull and two smaller identical hulls serving as outriggers, the primary armament is mounted along the ridgeline atop the middle hull and the secondary and tertiary gun armaments are mounted along the outsides of the outriggers, leaving space for the lage flight and hangar decks. The armour is primarily mounted along the outriggers and the bastion ridgeline but the inside faces of the outriggers and the sides of the central hull are almost impossible to hit anyway so this is not a major concern. The hull of the ship is designed to be smooth, adding a certain beutifying effect that many other ships lack.
The command structures are located on the central hull and are at approximately the midline, the flight contorl tower is located on the port side, giving it an unobstructed view of the flight deck. While the main bridge and the gunnery control centres are on the starboard side, allowing a good view through 180 degrees and a reasonable view through the use of cameras and flat screen "windows" of the remainder of the circle. The RADAR antenna and LIDAR targetting arrays are mounted on the topof hte command structures using a tubular mesh antenna layout.

PRIMARY ARMAMENT

To serve as its primary armament the Milliard Class wields 6 Mounts of Quadrouple LowG(tm) Railguns (3 forward, 3 Aft). These weapons accelerate the firing rounds to a velocity equal to that of a 25" ETC gun at a similar acceleration, together with an EMshielding Plastic layer around the projectiles fuses and sensors this allows the railgun to fire shells containing explosives that are normally impossible to use with Railguns. Although you may ask what would be the point of the trading away of all the Railguns advantages? The answer is the Propellant used in Electro Thermal Chemical Rounds makes up a substantial part of the mass of the ready to fire ammuniton, the removal of this in the LowG(tm) railgun system allows for several distinct benefits.

1. The required per round magazine volume is massively reduced. Reducing the amount of armour required to protect it, reducing the weight of the magazine per round. Increasing both weight and volume efficiency.

2. The autoloaders for the railguns are required to handle less weight with the same amount of energy. Aswell as a substantially lower volume, this allows them to work much much quicker. This nearly doubles the rate of fire of the gun compared to that of a standard 25" ETC naval gun.

3. The Turrets, requiring a smaller more compact autoloader and readybox round storage area can be siginificantly lighter, this combined with the instrinsicly lighter Railgun, allows for the turret to remain heavily armoured while gaining a substantial increase in turret tracking speed. This gives the Milliard a significant advantage in a combat engagement.

Each turret can store 60 rounds in a ready box behind the gun loading appatures. Beneath each turret there is a magazine, buried deep inside the interior of the ship, protected by a massive armour shield capable of shrugging off thirty inch rounds with the same impact point several times, any ammunition passing out of the magazine during combat, or during loading has to pass through a pair of heavily armoured doors, hopefully preventing a magazine explosion due to a lucky enemy shot. Each of these magazines can hold 800 rounds, giving each gun a total of 215 rounds upon sailing.

SECONDARY GUN ARMAMENT

The Milliard weilds 24 Twin Five Inch Rapid Firing ElectroThermalChemical Cannon mounts, each gun is equipped with electromagnetic rifling to serve as her secondary gun armament, ammunition for these weapons is stored in 4 secondary magazines, while not as heavily armoured they still offer protection equal to that of the ships main belt armour. Each twin turret has 80 rounds ready to fire and fifteen hundred stored in the magazine. Giving each gun about 790 rounds to fire.

TERTIARY GUN ARMAMENT

The Milliard possesses 60 35mm ElectroThermalChemical (ETC) Rapid Firing Autocannon mounted on fast tracking mounts for use against light enemy ships at close range, as CIWS and as AntiAircraft Batteries. In addition she possesses 30 additional Crew Served 35mm ETC autocannon for additional AA use.
The ship also weilds 14 Ballista Mk2 25mm CIWS mounts for emergeancy antiship use. She is protected below the waterline by fourteen ASHUM gun batteries and a sonic torpedo defence system, first installed aboard SD2 CSS Vanguard. This system uses massive focused shockwaves to crush and divert enemy torpedoes.

MISSILE ARMAMENT

The Milliard Possesses 80 4Cell Launchers for P.746.X missiles. Allowing it to produce massive firepower concentrations against enemy aircraft and to reload rapidly as the cells can be reloaded while another cell in the array is firing. The ship possesses five thousand P.746 missiles stored in the missile magazine and distrubuted using the tracked hauler that runs the length of the ship.

For offensive missiles the ship possesses 120 4 Cell VLS systems capable of firing Shockhounds, TASM-D cruise missiles, Wallabe ICCMs, and many other missiles. Including those in use by the Skyian military. The missiles are also stored in the missile magazine, which is armoured to a similar extent as the main gun magazine.

TORPEDOES

The ship weilds 20 Twin Torpedo launcher racks, each with a eight torpedoes. These are not stored in any magazine and instead beside the launcher itself. The torpedoes in use are Macabee and Skyian designed weapons, although the first is far more prolific.

FLIGHT DECK

The Miliard posseses a flight deck running the full length of the ship along the port outrigger, between the 5" mounts and the main hull. This deck is capable of Launching any known fighter aircraft currently in service with the IADF with the possible exception of the Lu-27 Condor. This deck is paired an armoured hangar on the starboard outrigger, access is by an armoured taxi-tunnel built into the deck. The planes can also use an armoured moving platform in an emergeancy.

The Hangar deck contains space for 96 fighters or other fighter sized aircraft, this allows the ship to defend itself and in most cases still have enough aircraft in reserve to launch a counter attack.

Protector-Class Guided Missile Dreadnaught

The Protector Class Guided Missile Dreadnaught (Escort) was designed in the wake of the modernisation of the confederate Navy and the introduction of the Milliard Class Superdreadnaught.
The ship is designed to provide massive missile support to the fleets ships that are two small to carry the immense loads required on a modern battlefield while still possessing moderate Gun capabilities allowing it to engage in naval combat beside its larger brethren, the superdreadnaughts.

PRIMARY ARMAMENT

The Protector wields a single forward triple turret of 25" LowG™ Railguns. The answer is the Propellant used in Electro Thermal Chemical Rounds makes up a substantial part of the mass of the ready to fire ammuniton, the removal of this in the LowG™ railgun system allows for several distinct benefits.

Each turret can store 45 rounds in a ready box behind the gun loading appatures. Additional ammunition is stored in a magazine buried deep inside the interior of the ship, protected by a massive armour shield capable of shrugging off thirty inch rounds with the same impact point several times, any ammunition passing out of the magazine during combat, or during loading has to pass through a pair of heavily armoured doors, hopefully preventing a magazine explosion due to a lucky enemy shot. This magazine can hold six hundred rounds in this way, giving each of the three guns 215 upon sailing at full ammunition capacity.

SECONDARY ARMAMENT

The Protector weilds 8 Twin Five Inch Rapid Firing ElectroThermalChemical Cannon mounts, each gun is equipped with electromagnetic rifling to serve as her secondary gun armament, ammunition for these weapons is stored in a secondary magazine, while not as heavily armoured they still offer protection equal to that of the ships main belt armour. Each twin turret has 80 rounds ready to fire and fifteen hundred stored in the magazine. Giving each gun about 790 rounds to fire.

MISSILES

The Protector possesses the following Missile Launchers:-
250 6-Cell Heavy VLS systems (missiles other than P.746s)
80 8-Cell P.746 launching VLS systems

These missile tubes are fed missiles from the magazine located below the missile launching deck on the aft end of the ship. Additionally P.746 missiles are moved to the launchers on the front, port and starboard of the ship using a missile transfer "railway" using automatic trains to deliver racks of missiles to the appropriate launchers. The massive missile launching capacity of the ship is backed up by a truly massive missile storage capacity.

6400 P.746.X series missiles
16000 Shockhound I Avenger AntiShipping Missiles
2500 TASM-D Cruise Missile
1000 Wallabe InterContinental Cruise Missiles
1500 Princep III ASROC weapons

DEFENCE SYSTEM

The Ship is protected beneath the waterline by eight ASHUM guns and a sonic torpedo defence system, utilising underwater shock waves to crush inbound torpedoes. The ship also mounts twelve Ballista CIWS mounts to protect it from enemy Missiles

Praetor-Class Bombardment Vessel

Picture (http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/3281/praetorclassbombardmentvessel9.png)

The Praetor class was designed for the same reason as the US navy kept two of its Iowa-class Battleships on the Fleet Reserve register after the Second World War, to provide massive naval gun support for amphibious assaults and for the early stages of the operation.

The primary armament of the Praetor Class borbardment vessel is its Eight Quadrouple mounts of Mk56 Repeating 10" ETC guns with Electromagnetic Rifling, these sue caselss ammunition and quck relaod racks to help increase rate of fire. These weapons can yield 15 Rounds a minute per gun, allowing the Praetor to fire 480 ten inch rounds per minute, allowing it to shatter enemy beach defences and overwhelm coastal defence batteries that may attempt to engage the Praetor in a big gun barrel, these weapons can be either reloaded using hydrolics powered by the ships reactors, or in a combat situation where hydrolyic power is not available, by a secondary gas operated hydrolyic pump, this mode of operation will result in a less powerful firing, the range using the former method of firing is about 165km, the later about 110km. The 10" guns can also fire Flak rounds which allow them to be effective against enemy aircraft.

The secondary armament of the Praetor Class is its Ten Triple mounts of Mk59 Repeating 5" ETC guns with Electromagnetic Rifling, these use caseless ammunition and quck reload racks to help increase rate of fire. These weapons can yield 25 Rounds a minute per gun, allowing the Praetor to fire 750 five inch rounds per minute, allowing it to shatter enemy beach defences and overwhelm coastal defence batteries that may attempt to engage the Praetor in a big gun barrel, these weapons can be either reloaded using hydrolics powered by the ships reactors, or in a combat situation where hydrolyic power is not available, by a secondary gas operated hydrolyic pump, this mode of operation will result in a less powerful firing, the range using the former method of firing is about 75km, the later about 55km.

For its tertiary armament the Praetor has 16 28-barrel fixed missile launchers, eight starboard and eight to port, these launchers are capable of firing Shockhound I Avenger Missiles, Tomahawk Cruise Missiles and Praetorian Variants P.746.A et P.746.B and DumbFiring Roackets as well as many missiles in service with the Confederate Military. These launchers have high speed reloading hydrolyics to allow them ot reload all the launchers 28 barrels within 45 seconds.

For AntiAir Defence the Praetor has 80 70mm AntiAir Artillery Peices firing Flak rounds. They are directed through the ship's sensory equipment and are fully automatic. The range of the guns is a full fifty kilometers at low altitudes, and two hundred meters to thirty kilometers at higher altitudes, 14 Ballista CIWS systems provide Close Range anti missile protection.

This ships armour technologies are higly advanced, from outside in:
1. 75mm Stainless Steel
2. 250mm Boron Carbide Tiles
3. 50mm High Stength Steel
4. Nanotube Composite

The Nanotube Composite is manufactured out of several materiels, outermost is a layer of Buckytubes woven into an increibly strong but light fabric, this is bonded by a layer of organic polymer, called Poly 2,2 Propquadionic Acid, three milimetres thick to a layer of diamond six milimetres thick, this is bonded to another layer by the organic polymer, this layer is bonded to the ships inner skin, yielding a total thickness of only 21.5mm while its RDA measured over 3000mm. Giving the armour scheme as a whole an RDA of about 5000mm for only 400mm, the Nanotube composite has its drawbacks however, a single 1m*1m*21.5mm sheet of the nanotube armour composite can cost upwards of four hundred thousand dollars. For of Expense the tow outriggers which contain non-explosive supplies such as food as well as non-critical spare parts do not have the nanotube composite layer in there armour-protection.

The Ship is powered by 8 Confederate Arms Mk14 Pebblebed Reactors, powering three propellors, this engine arangement gives the Praetor a top speed of 28 knots, ofcourse in combat its speeds will be infinately lower than this.
The Praetor Class has a crew of 5700 menand women, it can carry 5000 extra troops, these can be deployed by the 6 assault hovercraft stored in hangars on the inward-faces of the outriggers.
The ammunition supplies available to the Praetor is as follows:=

10000 10" ETC Shells
1000 10" ETC Flak Shells
20000 5" ETC Shells
15000 Rounds for the CIWS systems
500 Shockhound I Avenger Missiles
500 Tomahawk Cruise Missiles
3000 DumbFiring Bombardment Rockets
1800 P.746.A missiles
1200 P.746.B missiles

Length: 640 Meters
Width: 106 Meters
Draught: 14.6 Meters
Displacement: 1,000,000 Tonnes fully loaded

Cost: 190 Billion Dollars

Sol Invictus-Class Armoury Ship

The Sol Invictus Class is essentially a floating VLS assembly, and is as such massively armoured and also benefits from an incredibly low profile. Many an enemy of the Confederacy has come to fear a massive supersonic missile barrage, annihalating them with ShockLAM missiles before they even hear them coming.

ARMAMENT:

The Ships Primary Armament has and always will be missiles, 78% of teh ships length being devoted to the massive VLS array that makes the ship such a fearsome opponent.
The Ships loads out a huge 980x80 bank of VLS tubes, each loaded with two missiles, one above the other, ofcourse the top missile must be fired before the lower one, but this inconvenience was considered worthwhile for it allowed for the removal of the complicated missile handling gear, thus allowing crew numbers to be reduced.

The ship carries a total of one hundred and fifty-three thousand six hundred (153,600) missiles, a mix of either Shockhound I Avenger AntiShipping Missiles or the Land Attack Variation, known among the Crews by the rather tongue in cheek name, Shocklamb.
The ship, although massively geared towards this massive missile armament does boast some other weapons to defend itself with, this includes a Twin 5" Rapid Firing ETC mount, utilising EMR and allowing the ship to engage ships small enough to penetrate to the centre of the battlegroup inwhich the ship is located without being blown apart by massed 5 and 25 gunfire.

For air defence the ship possesses 600 P.746 missiles in a stock aft of the primary VLS bank, these are fired through 12 Vertical Launching Tubes, automatically reloaded through the Use of Heavy Hydraulics.

For a last ditch defence against enemy missiles, and for use against light boarding craft, aswell as against low flying planes, the ship possesses twenty-two Ballista Block 2 Close In weapons Systems, more than anyother in the Confederate Navy.
Below the waterline this is augmented by eighteen ASHUM guns.

ARMOUR
The Ships sides are armoured with a series of lightweight steel boxes, rendering the first few torpedo hits totally ineffective. Behind this is thirty inches of the advanced armour composite used aboard the other large ships of the Confederate Navy.

The motorised box lids of the VLS cells are armoured with 12" of this composite, and each cell is isolated from those around them by atleast five inches of this composite.

The Crew quaters are on the back of the ship, centred around a conning-tower like structure that would not be out of place on a submarine, This is armoured with fourty inches of composite and the rest of the crew structures are protected by thirty inches of armour.

The reactor and engine spaces are protected by some sixty inches of composite. Allowing them to shrug off the heaviest in weapons fire.

PROPULSION

The Ship is powered by two Mk29 Pressurised Water Reactors, powering the ships four screws to a top speed of 32knots and a cruising speed of 24knots

Roma-Class Battleship

HULL

The hull of the Roma is based upon the Zealous, Neptune, Milliard and Argentine class hulls, the superdreadnaughts currently serving in the Confederate Navy, however it has been scaled down to the Romas required displacement. The Hull is as with normal conventions a trimaran based system, made up of a large central hull and two smaller identical hulls serving as outriggers, the primary armament is mounted along the ridgeline atop the middle hull and the secondary and tertiary gun armaments are mounted along the outsides of the outriggers, however a second array of secondary armaments is mounted atop the outriggers to allow for extra firepower without increasing the length of the ship.

PRIMARY ARMAMENT

To serve as its primary armament the Roma Class wields 3 Mounts of Triple 20" LowG™ ElectroMagnetic Accelerator Cannon (All forward). These weapons accelerate the firing rounds to a velocity equal to that of a 20" ETC gun at a similar acceleration, together with an EMshielding Plastic layer around the projectiles fuses and sensors this allows the railgun to fire shells containing explosives that are normally impossible to use with Rail or Coil Guns. Although you may ask what would be the point of the trading away of all the Railguns advantages? The answer is the Propellant used in Electro Thermal Chemical Rounds makes up a substantial part of the mass of the ready to fire ammuniton, the removal of this in the LowG™ system allows for several distinct benefits.
