Woke up this morning to more of the same. The continual rains that has plauged our nation are getting worse. The lowlands are under about 3 meters of rapidly rising water, causing those who might be barely alive to scramble up to the mountains in the center of the big island. The earthquakes have caused our telephone lines to be cut, and the volcanic ash in the atmosphere makes radio communication impossible. There was only one thought running through my mind at the moment. If I had listened instead of writing this off as nothing, then perhaps most of my fellow countrymen would be here. If only...
Note: In this RPG, a world renowned psychic has claimed that a comet is rapidly approaching Earth and will cause the Earth to flip nearly 90 degrees, causing catastrophic worldwide devastation. Huge tsunamis assaulting all coastlines, Richter 9 earthquakes, volcano eruptions, and continual rains for up to six months.
This RPG starts in the year 2106, in late April. According to the psychic, this event will start with the Earth stopping rotation for about two months, then the dramatic event. The event itself is scheduled to take place on July 15th. As your nation's leader, it is up to you to decide how to prepare for this disaster and rebuild your nation's structure. Will you let your people drown, or send out rescue boats? Will you stockpile supplies for public shelters or send out information for each family to fend for themselves? Will you order evacuations or tell people to buckle down and prepare for the worst? All this is up to you, the leader, to decide.

The president was currently seated in his executive office. Currently, an eccentric old woman had been demanding to see him, in order to tell him something important. Being a man who felt it was important to hear from his constituents, he showed her into his office.
"Miss, won't you please be seated?" he asked, showing her to a seat in front of his desk.
She sat down, with an obviously nervous air about her, and proceeded to talk.
"Mr. President, I know you might not believe in psychics, but I am here on an urgent mission." she said.
"Um, what kind of mission is this?" asked the President.
She hesitated.
"Well, last night I had an extremely detailed vision depicting the end of the world. A comet will pass by the planet, causing it to rotate nearly 90 degrees onto its side, wiping out 75 percent of the world's population." she said.
He tried hard to hold back a laugh. Instead, he seemed genuinely interested and said:
"Well, I'll be sure to pass this along to the next administration. My term is up in about 3 years, and as you know, I cannot be elected again." he said.
"You don't understand! This thing is on its way right now! Beware the Ides of July!" she said.
He had had enough. His usually calm temper flared.
"Okay, I've had enough! If this thing is on its way right now, then we should see it by now. It's about two months until July, and in case you're not aware, there is no comet in sight! Ma'am, I must ask you to leave and not bother me again!" he said.
With that, she was escorted outside by a pair of bodyguards.
That night, however, would become the longest in the world's history. Armageddon had begun.

OCC: This is interesting, however, 2106 would be what tech? Is is enough for FT ? PMT? What are we dealing with here. The number of possible solutions is drasticly increased if I were to have greater tech.

OOC: PMT I imagine. But I wont get involved unless people are realistic, there is not going to be that much of a tech change in 100 years, in my opinion.

- April 12th 2106 -
It was Miss Ashlyn's first year as a teacher. She was a bit shy for a teacher and still fairly young having graduated Juliana Natioanl University just last year. She was dressed in a yellow sun dress that showed perhaps a bit too much cleavage for the boys in her class to pay attention to such a boring concept as the importance of the fusion reactor. Poor Ashlyn probably never even knew that she was doing it, but the boys never seemed to miss a day. She was too busy going on about the importance the invention of the fusion drive had.
"In 2073, Dr. James Cross VII invented the Fusion Drive. This solved the nations dependence on fossil fuels and ushered in a new era of prosperity for the nation. Our cites were able to be powered safely and the enviroment began to recover."
Bobby was sleeping again. Miss Ashlyn picked up the yardstick and pounded it on his desk loudly. Bobby snapped wide awake.
"Bobby, can you tell us another invention that was enabled through fusion power?"
The class was laughing at the guy. Bobby, now red in the face, stammered a bit and finally answered, "Superairships?"
Miss Ashlyn smiled, "Very good Bobby! With the invention of fusion drive, airships were no longer dependent on air to keep them airborne. They could now be powered by rotary engines that would otherwise be impratical if hwe had to use fossile fuels. These massive airships also proteced us from invaders who wanted our techology to make weapons."
RING!!
"Ok, that's enough for today, remember we have a test on Friday!
Miss Ashlyn sighed a bit. Her life was so simple and boring. Why didn't some knight in shining armor come rescue her from this monotony? She would have checked her horoscope, but the lady was just preaching doom.

The chronomter on Brett Hauglin's wall started chiming in a rhythmic pattern
"Wake up, wake up! Time to go to work!" it chimed.
Groaning loudly, he got out of bed and began to get himself ready for work. Brett worked as a doctor at the Karabal Regional Hospital downtown, and boy, would he have his hands full. The flu season had struck late that year, but when it did arrive, it was particularly nasty. Not as bad as some years, but still causing the hospital to require all hands on deck during each shift.
After grabbing a quick bite to eat, he grabbed a pail of water and proceeded to his automobile. He opened up the fuel tank and added more water to the hydrogen separator in the car's fusion reactor. Thanks to the tireless work of scientists, a new method to induce a fusion reaction from pure water, with its byproduct being separated hydrogen and oxygen, which would eventually turn back into water, provided a clean and limitless supply of fuel with which to power things.
As he was driving down the highway towards the city center, he turned on the radio for a traffic and weather report.
"Good evening Karabal! And now here's your traffic and weather report:
"An accident to report southbound on the Mt. Newton Turnpike, causing major delays. You might want to consider using Terwana Ave. or the subway to travel.
"And now here's your weather forecast. Currently, the temperature recorded at the Naval Observatory is 20 degrees, very comfortable, but forecasters are warning that a major snowstorm is on its way. Temperatures overnight will drop dramatically, only reaching minus 15 degrees, with snow accumulations around 50 centimetres. Engineers will be cranking up the city's central heating supply, in order to adjust to this rapid shift."
Had he heard correctly? A snowstorm? The snow had all melted by early March, and temperatures had remained unseasonably mild. Now they would be heading near the record low, -23 degrees, in a heartbeat.
Having been too preoccupied with the weather report, he missed the turnoff to Terwana Ave. and ended up stuck in a major traffic jam. By the time he had gotten through the area, he was already noticing snow starting to fall heavily, and decided that it was too dangerous to continue. Noticing a travel center on a walkway spanning the highway up ahead, he decided to turn into there and wait out the storm.
Meanwhile, transportation all over the area was virtually halted by the heavy amounts of snow. Already, nearly 10 centimetres had fallen in the hills to the west of the city, which were nestled against the backdrop of the Arsenian Mountains. The snowplows, which had been put in garages in anticipation for the summer season, were unable to be started fast enough to keep ahead of the problem. City engineers had ordered all highways closed, flights out of the airport grounded, all boats returned to port, and all trains except for the subway system were to be stopped.
However, the Arsenian people were not known to worry excessively. Freak storms had happened before, and surely things would calm down by tomorrow, or the next day at the very latest. So, faced with being stuck outside in gridlock, most people headed to the nearest building to wait.
OOC: To answer a few of your questions, yes, this is a PMT scenario. I really liked the idea of the fusion reactor- it seems to make the story a little more interesting. Plus, having that type of power will allow nations to rebuild much more quickly after the disaster strikes.

It was raining.
Alot.
It had not rained so much in the History of Fourhearts. Miss Ashyln did recall a time when it had.
Long ago, The Kingdom of Fourhearts was located in the Pacific. Due to the global warming at the time, the ocean had risen up and engulfed the islands. Fourhearts used airships to evacuate all 5 million of them to the Region of Texas. These thoughts were also going through the mind of King Drake the XX.
"Revo, when was the last time we had weather such as this?"
The King's advisor had already looked it up.
"2005, the year the Kingdom evacuated."
The King looked at Revo quite sqaure in the eye.
"Now that crazy lady on TV keeps saying that there's disaster coming. Normally, I'd ignore it, but given our history... Revo don't look at me like that."
"I'd agree Sire, but try getting it passed through the Parliment."
The King nodded, "Evo, how many ships would it take to evacuate 600 million people?"
Revo's eyes went wide, "You don't want to know sir!"
"Yes I do."
"Sigh...We could never build enough. We would have a better chance of raise a city than build a massive fleet such as that."
"Call Dr.Cross, I want to know what it would take to build a floating city. If Fourhearts floods or quakes or anything like that, then I want as many people as possible in the air. We'll need to convert some ships into farming ships, water ships. How many Salamanders do we have? We'll need to find ways of protecting everyone."
Revo tapped a few things and a holographic old man appeared in the room.
"Ahh, Your Majesty, what can I do for you?"
"Build me an Ark"

It was obvious that they had a major situation on their hands. The blizzard that had buried the city under 50 centimetres of snow had stopped, but they had a new dilemma to deal with. It was nearly midday, but there was no sun in the sky. At first, people thought it was due to the storm, but after that had passed, it was quite obvious that there was something wrong. The President was busy conferring with his officials.
"Are you sure that you cannot get her to return? I mean, this is what she predicted, isn't it?" he said.
The Secretary of Health and Human Services responded.
"Um, not exactly. If I can recall, her words were 'the Earth shall rotate 90 degrees' and something like 'beware the Ides of July'. What the heck is an Ide?" he asked.
Everyone shrugged. Nobody knew what an Ide was.
"Well, I say that we should wait and see what happens. I mean, if a comet were to pass, wouldn't we see it?" asked the Vice President.
"Yes, unless it was directly behind the full moon" responded the Attorney General.
There was a knock on the door. An aide entered the room, carrying a couple of telegrams. The President thanked him, and began to read them.
From: Revo, advisor to King Drake XX of Fourhearts
To: The President of Arsenius
Heavy rain, STOP. Sun will not set, STOP. Trying to meet with psychic from T.V., but with no success, STOP. Preparing air evacuation, STOP. Advise on your situation, STOP.
From: (Name Smudged)
To: The President of Arsenius
This is a preview, STOP. I have advice for safety, STOP. Karabal will be flooded, STOP. Arsenian airships cannot fly at present due to ice damage, STOP. Evacuate citizens to the Mt. Newton area by July 10th, STOP. If you can get ships going again, send them to the mountain, STOP. Now do you believe, STOP.
The President placed the telegrams down. He turned to his advisors and said:
"Send Mr. Revo a reply, updating him on our situation. Tell him that we're trying to repair our ships, but will move to the mountains at present."
He turned to his military commanders.
"Send in the Army and get the snow cleared off the Mt. Newton Turnpike and all other roads heading up that way. I want that road passable within two days. Have the Navy and Coast Guard call in all vessels within our boundaries, either domestic or foreign, and have them dock at Karabal and Terwana ports. Then have the people transported to Mt. Newton.
"I'm going to need to get our civil engineers up that way and establish shelter. For now, RVs will do. By July, we'll need to bore into the mountainside in order to afford extra protection.
"Lastly, in order to transport people to Mt. Newton, we need to use every option available. Vehicles with one person inside them, for example, should be used to put more people inside. Fill up all trains, buses, trucks, cars, pack animals, and as a last resort, lead them up on foot. Keep supply and first aid stations about every four klicks on the way there. No need to have people suffering while trying to save them."

Brett Haughlin was huddled next to a deep fryer vat in a corner cafe. He was wearing several sweaters, and in a stroke of brilliance, he had taken the grease from the fire and lit it to produce light and heat. He sat there thinking about what to do next. The other travellers in the building had expired overnight, despite frantic efforts to keep people from freezing to death. He sat there thinking about when his moment might come next.
The blizzard had hit this area especially hard, since it was outside of Karabal, and therefore, was not plugged into the city's emergency power supply. Thus, when the lights were cut at the heart of the storm, there went the heat! He kept seeing the faces of people, like himself, who were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. And now, just like the corpses he had placed in the walk-in freezer (how ironic), he would simply sit there, killed by an act of coincidence.
It was at this moment of thought that he heard a banging on the door. At first, he thought it was a hallucination, but then he realized that someone was actually there. He gathered up his remaning strength and propelled himself to the door. By flipping the manual override switch on the automatic door, he was able to open it, with some difficulty, and let the frigid air in.
Inside came a group of men dressed in army uniforms, carrying supplies. They turned to Brett with great amazement.
"By golly, you're the first survivor I've seen all the way out here!" said one of the men. "All of the other service plazas were either deserted or full of people froze to death".
Breathing heavily, and trying hard to support himself against a chair, Brett spoke.
"Dead? Yeah, we've got them here too. I've placed them inside the walk-in freezer, though it would probably be warmer in there then out here, eh?" he said.
With that, he fell unconscious.
The man who had been talking to him turned to the others.
"Get this man some medical help, stat! We've got a severe case of hypothermia!" he said.

Meanwhile, traffic on the roadway below was slowly inching its way forward. The Army Corps of Engineers had a large fleet of snowplows clearing all six lanes of the highway. Followed directly behind them in a contra-flow direction were the evacuees. After the lengthy discussion between the President and his advisors yesterday, officials immediately went on the air and ordered a mandatory evacuation of all of the low-lying areas.
Simultaneously, workers from the large Spanish-speaking city of Terwana, located on the opposite side of the island, were slowly pushing their plows up the Autopista de la Paz to Mt. Newton. Unlike their Karabalian counterparts, who were moving slowly due to the steep mountain backdrop literally a stone's throw away from the city, the group from Terwana was pushing through flatlands, and on into a large valley, where they picked up the pace. By the time that the Turnpike was 1/4 finished, people were able to drive the circuitous coastal highway to Terwana, then head inland.
As the President had promised, he had all forms of transportation filled to capacity, and by daybreak on the 30th, nearly 1/3 of the population of Greater Karabal was either on the Coast Highway or following the even greater caravan into the mountains. Luckily, in Brett Hauglin's case, the cavalry had arrived in the nick of time. However, as people were yet to discover, major problems presented themselves the next day...

Deep in the Swamps
The following conversations have been translated from Spanish, except when in italics.
Mary Warren was among the few who had decided to take the more circuitous route around the island, rather than follow the major traffic jam heading up into the highlands.
"Mom said this route got her there within 12 hours, rather than the 48 hours predicted by officials." she thought.
It was strange to be driving this far south. Rather than taking the main turnoff to Ramisc, which gave people a shortcut to Terwana, she decided to follow the coast all the way to Eagle Point, the southernmost point on the island. As a result, she was only one of a handful on the road.
Too bad this part of the island would probably be underwater soon. She had never been to this part of the country, and the darkness made it difficult to see any scenery. It also made it difficult to see the ocean.
As she rounded a bend in the road, she saw a large, dark figure on the right-hand side of the road.
"Eagle Point!" she exclaimed. As she drew nearer, however, she noticed several flashing lights. Right at the monument, the police had blocked the road. She pulled up next to a police car, and an officer approached her.
"Miss, I"m afraid you will have to turn back. The sea is rising quickly. It is unsafe to travel here." said the officer.
Mary was unable to understand him, as she could not speak Spanish. Reaching into her purse, she pulled out a red book, and flipped to a section marked "Spanish Phrases".
"Uh, no hablo español, señor. Uh, let's see... Yo quiero Taco Bell. No, that's not right, either." she said.
The officer was not pleased.
"Great! Out of all the people to travel down this road, I get stuck having to talk to the American! Let's see if I can find my book"
The officer went to his cruiser, and came back with a blue book. He flipped open to a page marked "Frases Inglesas" and proceeded shakily.
"Este... The road is a-closed. Please return to Ramisc immediately." he said.
Mary flipped through a few more pages.
"Por qué la carreterra está cerrada? No veo ninguna problema con la condición del camino."
The water was rushing onshore now.
The officer got a call on his radio.
"This is the Ramisc post of the National Weather Service. A tsunami wave is rapidly advancing. Please evacuate inland immediately!"
The officer was frantically flipping through his blue book. As he was about to tell the lady what was going on, a tsunami wave struck the coast, killing them instantly.
