The Rowlan Republic opens to embassies. (FT)

++An attractive, blonde anchorwoman in a black business suit appears on the HD screen before you, a very thin stack of papers at her elbow. They were not really needed--not in the traditional sense--but they provided an excellent prop at times. They are set on a solid oaken desk with a polished granite surface, and several people at computer terminals and glancing at small holograms can be seen in the background. The woman begins speaking, in a crisp, clear tone, with no discernable accent.
++"Today, the INN received word that the Rowlan Star Republic, some light-years "south" of Manticore--" A screen helpfully appeared at her right shoulder, with several icons indicating Manticore, Haven, New Berlin, and, of course, Old Earth, along with an icon indicating Rowle's position. "--has formally opened its doors to foreign embassies, independent of its alliance with Manticore. Speaker of the House Robert Theobald had this to say:"
++The screen blanks to the INN logo,

Official message from the Rowlan Star Republic

superimposed upon it, which held for around ten seconds to allow anyone who did not care to listen to leave, or for those who had been out of the room to return. It then switches to an image of the Rowlan Senate, the camera focused on a man at a central podium. His temples are covered in slate gray hair, with small strands of the same color invading the rest of his short-cropped locks. He is dressed in a simple suit, like the men and women around him. He glances down at a handful of notecards, shuffles them quietly, and then looks squarely at the cameras, ice-blue eyes never once wavering--a feat unimaginable by some politicians.
++"It is the widely-held opinion of this Senate," he begins in a deep bass baritone, which, by rights, sounded like it could have rattled the very foundation of the building they were in, "that it would be fortuitous to our star nation if we were to pursue relations, aside from our involvement in the Manticoran Alliance.
++"While it is true that our economic and military capability has risen considerably--" Someone coughs in the background noise. "--since joining the Alliance, it remains also true that there are even more possibilities for the Republic available. And so, it is with great pleasure that I hereby announce the formal opening of embassies on the planet of Rowle."
++Still-image cameras snap, and reporters thrust microphones at the speaker, scribbling away on notepads as they try to have their questions heard above the others. The Speaker begins to answer one, and the screen cuts back to the INN newsroom, now showing the same blonde, along with another, equally-young male.
++"In other news, the Bradford Oil Shortage continues, with the embargo..."

[ Well, I hope I did all right. n.n Send a courier boat along if you want to talk. Until then! ]

With a small flash 3 fighters attached to a harness appear on the edge of a system in the borders of Rowlan space.

"Alright, lets do this by the numbers, I don't feel like getting blown up by you hotshots today," the lead of the flight said over the coms. The 3 fighters, 2 X-wings and a Y-wing with a sensor package disengaged from the harness.

"What do you have for us today Blip-Boy?" the second X-wing pilot asked the Y-wing pilot. Blip-Boy waited for a moment before responding, "multiple DRADIS contacts, 100 klicks."

"Alright boys, form up," the commander said before sending out a radio signal on all channels, "Unidentified ships this is Serene Death Deep Explorers requesting name and nation of orign."

[ If you're referring to my ships, then at 100 kilometers, you'd be smashing into them. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y273/blast_archives/Emotes/icon_sweatdrop.gif

Sorry. Should have clarified I was using Honorverse-tech. A helpful example is found here (http://infodump.thefifthimperium.com/Harrington/pagenocss.php?page=hh_wedge_geometry.htm), although the wedge size is smaller, because all the RSN has is heavy cruisers, not superdreadnoughts, as is shown in the picture. ]

(OOC: I think I'm gonna have to pull out of this one, seeing as I cannot understand anything about your tech, and seeing as scanning far enough to see your ships without hitting your shields would take a while...I think those are shields...since light only goes 300,000 km/s. I don't understand Honorverse tech enough, though good luck to ya)

OCC: No! For God-sakes! Not Honor Harrington!!!! ... lol, jk. The stuff David has done with Steve White is better imho. Oh, and btw, he's 100 klicks from the closest point of your ship, not the center.

[ Eh. RADAR is light-speed. The delay might be a minute (from extreme multi-drive missile range, or around 18 million kilometers), or an hour from, say, the Sun to Saturn. Not quite the high-intensity battles in SW, but hey. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y273/blast_archives/Emotes/icon_wink.gif

Thanks anyway, though. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y273/blast_archives/Emotes/icon_3nodding.gif ]

[ I haven't had a chance to read much of those books, though. They're good, but the one's I've read don't have the technical depth that the HH series has. Maybe I'm just a techno-geek. Or maybe I'm just not properly initiated. What the hell. :P

But I don't really understand that second part. Even if he was 100 kilometers from the very furthest edge of the wedge, he'd still be right up in their faces (Sorry for talking around you, Serene.). ]

OOC: Yay, another honorverse nation. ^.^ Well, I'll jump in.

On the outskirts of the system hyper limit, a small diplomatic courier blinked into existence.

The crew was painfully aware that away from the Raumreich and nu-space communications, they'd have to rely on lightspeed transmissions.

From: VSS Alphion
To: Rowlan Star Republic

This is the diplomatic courier Alphion of the Imperium of Vernii, requesting a flight plan from System Control. Over.

[ Just to let you know, my NSWiki is still in the works, but here's a link (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Rowle) anyhow.

I'll go with the G0 star, since Rowle orbits that one. ]

A com relay platform nearby picked up the signal, and sent it to Astro Control Central, in orbit around Rowle. The system had not yet developed the sort of extensive communications net the Manties had, but it did have Ghost Rider because of its involvement with the Alliance, which simplified things immensely. Although there was still a slight lag, as Rowle was currently on the opposite side of the system, or very near to it, at least.

Alphion, this is Astro Control. Downloading astrographics now. Proceed along the marked route.

Meanwhile, the freighters currently in-system were instructed to proceed along new vectors, giving the courier the right-of-way.

OOC: Nice wiki.

"Roger that, Astro Control."

The courier boat neatly followed its assigned route through the system, finally setting into orbit over Rowle. After going through the usual bureaucratic protocols first, Alphion's boat bay swung open and a small pinnace (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v73/Jadeite/Nationstates/specs-hm.gif) floated down and away from its mothership.

Meteor-like fire was left in its wake as it streaked through the atmosphere before activating its countergrav engines, and then finally smoothly coming to a landing on its assigned pad.

TABAs the pinnace was descending, the pilot may or may not have noticed two sleek, arrowlike Herakles heavy assault shuttles--bought, as with most other Rowlan military equipment, from Manticore--riding at either of his flanks. If one looked closely enough, they might be able to make out the crest on its back; the eight-pointed star and red-on-black circle of the premier Marine raiding squadron, the Starsurfers. As he set down on the pad, they would pull up, and join four other such craft in making low-ceiling patrols, while a ground security detail nearby moved in on it and secured the location, forming a neat, protective circle with the pulser-armed aircars and dark-suited men. One might also notice the utter lack of additional craft on the airfield.
TABIn the midst of the security was a diminuitive woman, with tightly-bunned brown hair, streaked with gossamer lines of blonde, and possessed of shockingly-blue eyes that seemed to glimmer, such as a reflection of Sol would dance upon a mountain lake. She was dressed in a simple maroon jacket on an equally-austere white blouse, and a knee-length skirt, coupled with a pair of black leather shoes. She might have been simply a normal woman--possibly a business executive, or somesuch--but the fact was, that this was the granddaughter of the first Rowlan president, Corliss Rowle, after whom the planet and Republic had been named. She, however, did not seem prepossessing, and indeed, quite modest despite her lofty position.

OOC: Sorry for the wait.

A hatch on the side of the pinnace slid open, and a distinguished looking gentleman appeared. He waited patiently for the embarkation ramp to descend, and then walked down, stopping a polite distant from his greeting party.

He was dressed in a black three piece suit, the gold chain of a pocketwatch hanging from his vest pocket, and carried a briefcase in one hand. Appearance wise, he had ash blonde hair and emerald eyes, and looked to be in his mid-thirties.

He bowed respectfully, then smiled warmly. "I am Lord Alexander Harper, envoy of the Imperium of Vernii and His Majesty Alexis Calimar. Thank you for receiving me."

[ Right when I start thinking this had died... ]

TABThe woman smiled, tipping her head forward in a small bow. "Andrea Rowle, President of the Rowlan Republic. We're glad to have you, My Lord," she said gracefully, having had plenty of opportunities to fine-tune her cultural knowledge--some pleasant, some not so much--with various Manticoran officials. She would then gesture vaguely behind her, to a waiting groundcar limo, with the Seal of the Republic on its roof. "Shall we go?"

"Of course."

Unlike many government envoys, Harper brought no bodyguard. He'd always figured that if a government made an attempt on his life, no single bodyguard would really do anything to prevent it. Nor did he need assistants, since everything he required was tucked neatly in his briefcase.

OOC: Yeah, sorry about that. Life gets in the way of NS a lot. In the interest of time saving, we could skip ahead to the meeting if you'd want.
