Brief History:
-War finally erupted on the Iberian Penninsula as Spanish troops stormed across the border, meeting a pathetic Portuguese resistance of civilians-at-arms and small patrol forces. After a week of bloody fighting claiming nearly 50,000 lives, Spain surrendered and moved it's capital to Morocco.
-After the outbreak of war in the Balkans, Portugal partially mobilized to defend it's remaining colonies and precious coastline. Spain, feeling threatened by their rival neighbor's mobilization, began patrolling the Portuguese/Spanish border. After a tangled web of rumors and small engagements, a temporary peace was arranged between the two, although no official treaties or cease-fires were signed.

The Iberian Peninsula and the Portuguese colonies have now been integrated into the United Atlantic Republic. Under this new nation, Portugal and Spain have been downgraded into provinces and Angola, Mozambique, etc. have been upgraded into provinces. The republic will currently be divided into West Iberia (Portugal and northwest Spain), East Iberia (Spain), West Africa (Angola and the western Portuguese colonies), and East Africa (Mozambique and the eastern Portuguese colonies).

All Portuguese, Spanish, and colonial civilians are now citizens of the republic. All citizens over 18, regardless of race, sex, height, etc. will be able to vote and all citizens over 25, regardless of race, sex, height, etc., will be able to run for office in parliament. All citizens over 30, you know the drill, which have served at least one term in parliament, may run for Prime Minister, who shall currently remain Manoel de Arriaga. Other rights issues shall be voted on by the new parliament, which shall be elected by the end of the year (some African areas and war-devastated areas may have a little delay in the creation of Voting Centers). A new Prime Minister shall be elected in 5 years unless he is removed by parliament or military force before then.

As some areas, especially in Africa, may find such new and sudden concepts disturbing, the Republican Army is growing and shall put down any rebellious actions. Provinces wishes to secede may do so once the new parliament is fully elected. Please be aware that parliament and province governments may alter these laws once everything is settling in, so please don't go blowing up mines or torching politicians' houses (unless they're conservatives). While open protests shall be tolerated, violence against the Republican Army or actions against Voting Centers shall be declared treason, which will indefinitely shorten your life span. All other nations opposing/supporting this action are open to comment.

OOC: Sorry to double post, but this is pretty much a seperate topic.

The East African and West African provinces shall begin modernization to catch up with it's European counterparts to create a more balances parliament and people. All British companies are invited to stay in the areas, but once the equal rights start to come into effect, that means they're not going to get to work my African citizens like slaves. To help pay for all this construction, the diamond minds in Angola shall be expanded, tariffs on foreign imports, except British, shall be slightly increased and approx. 1/4 of government spending shall be reconcentrated into this area for an estimated 2 to 3 years, except in the event of war, embargoes, etc.

@ Magdha: Yeah, Portugal had a lot of small colonies, even some that were single cities. I'll make a map/list of the colonies some time, but for now I'll just refer to East/West Africa which is what I've divided them all into.

@ Haneastic: Nah, just Portuguese provinces. Northern Angola is still yours as well (we can figure out some sort of boundary some time). This was mainly just to make the citizens equal and start the transfer of power from my European territory to Africa. ;)
