History
Bulgaria was a province of the Ottoman Empire from the 14th century until support from Russia enabled it to become an autonomous principality in 1878. Revolution in Turkey in 1908 enabled Bulgaria to become an independent kingdom under Prince Ferdinand. Prince Ferdinand allied with Serbia, Greece and Montenegro to drive Turkey out of Macedonia during the Balkan War. However Bulgaria felt it was given less than its fair share of the territory, and so declared was on its former allies. The Second Balkan War resulted in the loss of all the territory Bulgaria had gained from Turkey.
