The Cassadian naval forces have had a long history of excellence defending our borders here on Cyrius. When pirates first

discovered the Cy system 20 years ago, Cassadia was putting the first ships on the drawing board. The men and women did

themselves proud on the first ships which were nothing more than converted cargo carriers. Our previous planetbound enemies

became our freinds as we fought back for our space. Although we all know that the planet of Cyrius is certainly not united,

we have been able to build off eachothers stregnths. Cassadia's strong engineering ability has financed a sizable navy

comapred to other nations on Cyrius. We continue to lead the search for more benevolent cultures outside our own solar

system...

Cobra space fighter:

This is the standard fighter in the Cassadian space army. It can be outfitted to fullfill an number of combat and recon

roles. It has been in service for 3 years.

Raven Space Bomber

This bomber was origionaly a recon vessel design. It was decided that hit and run missions on the outer system pirates would

require a vessel with a quantum shift system and heavy weapons.

This carrier was built around a common space feigher superstructure so that merchant ships could easily be converted to fighting in the pirate wars. It can carry up to 6 fighers, and is used as a scout.

The Colt class was the first carrier specifically designed to be such. It has an increased hanger space that can hold up to

10 fighters with the ability to hold more in the main hull if necesary.

The stalion is a newer design that incorperates new advances in optical computer networks and hull design. This ship can

carry up to 30 fighters in both landing bays and 20 more internally.

This is by far the largest ship in service my Cassadia. The large hanger pods can even accomodate a full hanger pod of a

Lighthorse class with room for the machinery to service it. Only 5 of these behemoths have been built. It has full flight

capabilities for over 100 fighters.

Cassadian technology:

Space frames:

For the entire duration of the pirate wars military space vehicles were not different than civillain freighters except for their function and propulsion. These vessels were bult of supersteel frames with layers of aluminum and other alloys on top. Ships were well shielded from radiation by the layers of lead used in the armor and most energy weapon blasts were kept away by the plasma screens set up by anti starfigters cannons.

Recently most of the fleet has been refitted to include boron composite armor which is much stronger than any other previously used. The problems that come from the base superstructure still remain such as heavy reliance on inertial dampeners when manuevering or travelling at high speeds. Older ships have to virtualy stop before making a qauntum shift becuase due to the switchover of all gravitic systems.

The next generation of starships promise more manueverability and stability during shifts.

Power/Propulsion:

Fusion power was the dominant power source on the planet Cyrius for 100 solar cycles (80 years). It was tightly regulated and very expensive, but only due to the corporations who owned the rights to it. When quantum power was discovered, it required no fuel, only constant maintanence. When world powers attempted to outlaw the new energy, there were world wide revolts, most of the governments were overthrown and reestablished. It resulted in a new and freer society. However, due to strong racial prejudices, a true world government was never established.

This resulted in the declassification of years of research into gravitic manipulation. There was a great economic surge as the entire solor system was colonized and even new nations were established.

There are two standard methods used for gravitic manipulation, ion based, and boson based. Ion based gravitic manipulation is usually used in conjunction with a tradtional ion drive in atmospheric vehicles with some aerodynamic characteristics already. Boson interference feilds are used to create gravity feilds in situations where ion drives would impossible or impractical. These uses include inertial dampeners, quantum containment units, and internal gravity feilds. However, this method is far more expensive.

Faster than light is achieved through one methos, Quantum Plane Reference Shifting. This can only be achieved on large vessels as it requires two quantum singularities to perform. What it does is takes the craft and nullifies real dimensional effects on the vessel allowing it to tranverse dimesnion. It is able to access the 11th dimensional plane (OCC: this is thesible, look up M-Theory) for a less than mesurable amount of time. It can transverse as much of a distance as it's electro-gravitic coils can store. Usually a civillian vessel can transverse to another star system and nothing more, however military vessels are built with larger or more effeicient coils to allow longer range jumping.

Procedure for faster than light shifting happens something like this.

1. A destination is determined and fed into the computer for processing. This usually takes about 5 minutes.

2. While the navigational computer begins to work the shift computer begins to ion charge the electro-gravitic coils and prepares to switch breakers.

3. The ships batteries are given a boost charge.

4. Main power switched to batteries and the coils charge for about 7 minutes.

5. All gravitic systems are transfered to shift computer and it recieves the finalized nav computer data (this is not done as soon as the calculations are finished for security) this lasts 10 seconds.

(this has taken 10 minutes total)

6. The ship shifts and arrives at it's destination.

7. Main power is resoted and gravitic systems fire up again. This takes 30 seconds.

This loss of systems on the front and back end of a shift means that a ship will usually have it's systems fully charged and escape coordinates waiting to shift in as little as 30 seconds. However the normal time consuming process is still required at some point prior to the shift.

Computing systems:

The computers used on almost all vessels are silicon based computers. These are not much different than 21st century earth computers other than overall security and coheasivness. These computers are almost not intigrated with eachother. They share simple and secure network protocols which are almost impossible to hack. All wireless data is shared on a seperate system which can access shipboard computers only through a human operator. These systems developed during the pirate wars who managed to crash the entire allied fleet computer network.These computers, while primitivly based, are extremly fast and specialized for what they do.

Quantum and biological computers (and even combinations of those) are under development currently. There is only one superhybrid computer currently operation in any space vehicle. It resides on a prototype battleship more complex in design and more massive than any preiously attempted. The computer is biological with a quantum calculator and optical relays. It is intended to be the central brain of this new supership.

Weapons

Weapons continue to be largely kinetic, nuclear and plasma based. Quantum bombs have been out of the question due to their projected size. The Cassadian military has absolutly no qualms about using high radiation nuclear weapons. Chemically driven kinetic rounds have been complely phased out and magnetic drivers are the standard. These have been tweaked to reach realetivistic speeds on capital ship turrets and highly damaging but not as high speeds on fighters. This was an incredible advantage during the pirate wars who has sheilds that made plasma turrets useless and dampened nuclear energy and radiation, however projectiles were very effective as the pirates had no shelding against them. Kinetic rounds were the choice for itroducing nuclear wepaons inside a pirate ships missile kill boundry.

This eventually led to the development of magnetic tunnel guides. These were short range magnetic interference channels which could slightly redirect objects already launched while in transit to compensate for enemy maneuvers.

This was later found to be extremly usefull in creating plasma weapons. This system could create magnetic bottles to keep the plasma from disperesing, turning it into an offensive weapon. This system is being constantly improved.
