Former General of the Army Shaun Churchman named Man of the Year
by Paul Remital

"Since this magazine's inception in 1987, we have had an annual tradition of honoring one man- be he a military leader, a statesman, a criminal, a business tycoon, or an Average Joe- to be Man of the Year, i.e., the man we feel garnered the most press attention and had the biggest impact, positive or negative, that year. Men of all walks of life and from across the political spectrum have earned this coveted position. Last year, this magazine aroused considerable controversy when Marxist Prime Minister Timothy Ell of Pacitalia was Man of the Year. We responded in kind that we did not approve of Ell's strong-armed tactics or draconian one-man rule, but selected him merely because he happened to be the biggest name in news that year.

Field Marshal Shaun Churchman has long been one of the most popular and beloved people by Roach-Busterians. Born in Irondin, he has lived in Roach-Busters most of his adult life, and has held dual citizenship for many years. Since his youth, he exhibited signs of leadership, statesmanship, charisma, genius, and a world-class strategic mind. Joining the military at a young age, he rose rapidly in the ranks, and gained fame for his brilliant strategies, phenomenal capacity for hard work, utter devotion to his troops, staunch patriotism, and ability to remain cool under pressure, even in the heat of battle. He was well-loved for being a "soldier's general," who genuinely cared for his troops, often conversing, joking, and drinking with them. He became a war hero when he saved Roach-Busters from imminent destruction during the war with Socialist Cockroaches. This led to his becoming General of the Army, as well as being promoted to Field Marshal. He also led with distinction in the Holy Paradisian Civil War, the Buchianan secession wars, and the counter-coup that toppled General Creighton Eastmoreland's dictatorship.

Recently, the Marshal has returned to Irondin, which lay in ruins after years of abandonment. Under his strong, capable leadership, Irondin has quickly risen from the ashes, with recovery and economic growth proceeding at a brisk pace. Irondin is poised to become a regional- and possibly international- superpower, and is already showing signs of becoming an economic powerhouse. The Marshal's love for his people, undying devotion to both Roach-Busters and Irondin, which he has served faithfully over the years, and bold leadership both in the battlefield and in restructuring his nation, more than earn him the coveted position of Man of the Year. Let us pray that his future holds yet more successes for this brilliant and noble man."
