Hunt for the Destroyer Crystal (OOC/Sign up Thread: FT)

The Cassiopeia Galaxy
09-01-2006, 18:27
I am starting a New RP, one that I think will Change the World of NS as we know it.

The Story: 560,000 Years ago, The Powerful Malcakite Empire ruled half the Known Universe, from their Homeworld Malcak they enslaved Billions with a Powerful weapon, The Destroyer Crystal, so Powerful was this Crystal that it could Destroy a whole Galaxy in one second. But The Crystal couldn't save the Empire from one of the most Powerful Sith Lords ever, Darth Vemomous. He and his Grand Army Destroyed the Malcakite Empire by Attacking Malcak it self, at the cost of Vemomous's Life. Malcak and The Destroyer Crystal were lost for all time, and the story became a Fariy Tale told by Story Talers in the Universe.

The whole Plot of the RP is that The Cassiopeian Empress, Cas'rai Gon'dor'ri has found proof that The Crystal is real and she wants it. Now the Hunt is On for the Crystal, for who ever Finds the Crystal, will be All powerful.

Oh and did I forget to say that the Crystal is Powerful only in light, even starlight and that it is Garuded by a Monster? (I got the Light Idea from the movie Red Sona where the evil Queen Stole The Talsman which could make worlds are destroy them. The Talsman was powered by light and grew more powerful with More light.)

These RP will not go anywhere because this will be a way for godmodders to be even more of a godmodder. You can make the Crystal all powerful. I have a biomech which has the power to destroy planets, and galaxies (if in a group). but they have limits. You are saying that this is all powerful. It wont work you need to dumb it down some.

Ok, now If something that powerful existed it would be picked up by every sensor in the known universe. Now. Going on if someone already has it. it could be possible that it could be destroyed so that it may never be used again?

I'll join; however, I share Hobbeebia's concern. Taking one single world and possessing a weapon of awe-inspiring power is too easy. Better to have had the Sith Lord shatter it; and the weapon only be formed when all it's parts are assembled. Even then, it must be roused to it's full power; thus allowing time for a Decent Plot to develop.

Well, I thought of one thing, The Crystal is only powerful when in Light, any kind of light. And now stop Coging up the thread please, I want people to sign on, not trolled to death. and Thanks for Joining Chronosia :)

I'm prepared to sign up on the proviso that Chronosia's suggestions are followed.

And the light thing is a little too vague. You could have someone going up to it and wreaking massive destruction with an inadvertent sweep of a torch.

Actually, that might be a good idea: Have it's destructive capabilites based on the exact inflection and intensity of light along it. That way it's less of a weapon and more of a very dangerous object that with careful use can be used as a weapon.

Sort of like a hypersensitive reusable nuclear bomb.

Since I'm ICly in a nominal peace (cold war style) with you, would it be possible for me to use a Cassiopeian Democratic Party expedition? It would be a lot easier and (in my opinion) entertaining to use non-military grade equipment and specialists hunting of their own accord.

Not to mention they'd have an IC reason for knowing.

OOC: Cassiopeian wackos? Hmm...

Yes - They're primarily pacifists and committed to peace. They're subtle and have a strong information network. Their equipment is rugged and compact. Their elite are comprised of a diverse, highly intelligent democratic council. They have limited, but effective resources. They are secretive, and whilst posessing significant notoriety, outside of their public campaigners their identities are unknown.

I think I'll add in the use of a reformed, pacifistic sith. That would make for an interesting character.

Let's start already - Jolt's going offline and online, and the sooner we start the less likely people will pass this off as dead.

The Story (Rewritten):
In ages long past, legends tell of an empire so great it spanned half the known universe, using a powerful artifact far beyond their ken. This artifact was known to them as the Destroyer Crystal, and had the power to annihilate galaxies within seconds. Using this, they terrorised whole galaxies and formed the basis of an empire - The Malack empire. However, all empires must come to an end.

The Malack were beset by corruption and greed when a general by the name of Vemomous launched a daring attack on Malack itself, putting an end to an empire of terror. Vemomous himself was said to have perished in the attack and is remembered in many cultures as a hero. His name varies, each race bestowing upon him a name of honour, Vemomous itself a product of legends. Nobody knows the great general's true name, and the knowledge has been lost to the ages.

Nobody knows what happened to the crystal which imposed tyranny on the universe, but to this day people search in the hopes of gaining absolute power.

Some legends say Vemomous did not perish, and continues on his quest to destroy the crystal, finally ridding the universe of its tumor, however dormant.

(OOC: Yes, I omitted the 'Sith Lord' thing - it's probably best to be something specific to your culture. Heck, it's possible one race says 'Vemomous was a Sith Lord of great power, and we respect that', whilst another might say 'Vemomous was a champion of freedom, and we love him for it' and so on.)

I'm perfectly serious. It's best to start before everyone loses interest - Next time it would be a good idea to just do an interest thread if you haven't got a storyline properly fleshed out, or at least a skeleton.

Since you're still trying to work a story out from the 'artifact of ultimate power' stage, here's a few suggestions:

- Character RP - It's not interesting if the military just goes around deep scanning every planet. It's got to be individuals who can sometimes call on their contacts to obtain information.

- Artifact danger - We're dealing with a Type III* artifact, meaning without the utmost care you're liable to accidentally blow up your own galaxy accidentally. The analogy here would be giving nitroglycerine to a caveman.

- Creator danger - Since this is a Type III artifact, it follows that there's a Type III civilisation which made this. To them, a planet or star is nothing and they may just decide to intervene. The space fleets might suddenly find themselves in a star-sized petri dish for a child's science experiment.

Don't wrory, The RP will be started as soon as i can start it. and about your Ideas, me, MM and Chronosia have got a few ideas.

The Character RP: The RP will have Characters, but they have to follow Clues (left by a Sith Lord.) among the Clues is a map of Malcak's Surface.

The Crystal: It is in two Pieces, both are in a valut on Malcak (which is also to be found.) The Crystal is Powered by light and the only way to destroy it is to Crush it into Dust, Grinding it into dust.

The Malcakites: No need to fear them......they all dead. Venomous made sure of that. The only thing you have to fear is The Monster, which was made by the Malcakites to guard the Valut.

In short, you are going to love this....

The Character RP: The RP will have Characters, but they have to follow Clues (left by a Sith Lord.) among the Clues is a map of Malcak's Surface.

- If you're going to do a follow-the-clues, think harder. If it was a Sith Lord, they would already have taken it, because of the inherent nature and definition of the term 'Sith'. This scenario also means that you cannot participate, as you need to GM.

The Crystal: It is in two Pieces, both are in a valut on Malcak (which is also to be found.) The Crystal is Powered by light and the only way to destroy it is to Crush it into Dust, Grinding it into dust.

- Too simple and too vague. I could rub something with my finger and I'd rub it into powder a bit by mutual contamination. It should require both pieces and full charge to destroy itself.

The Malcakites: No need to fear them......they all dead. Venomous made sure of that. The only thing you have to fear is The Monster, which was made by the Malcakites to guard the Valut.

- Tha Malackites are obviously not the Type III civilisation. A type III civilisation would pop the things out by the crateload and issue them to construction workers. The colossal Type I Sith army would be punted into the nearest black hole by even a Type II civilisation with nothing so much as a figurative flick of the finger. The fact that the Malackites only had one means that they simply found a misplaced crystal and used it to gain power.

Actually, now that I think of it, Type III civilisations would have eschewed physical form entirely, and would be able to flatted a galaxy with the same 'flick' that a Type II would need to flatten stars. No, it's a Type II artefact whose civilisation has since ascended to Type III. At any rate, had the Malack even been Type II, the entire fleet would have spontaneously and simultaneously fissioned (or something equally horrid) as soon as the Malack noticed.

- The Monster is rather cliche'd, as is the two pieces, even if they are in the same vault. It's gotta be something more subtle than some space monster.

Nevertheless, there has to be an effort to make this more than a godmod artifact. So far it's cliche'd and uninteresting.

Think about it this way:

Why would the crystal need to be powdered?

Why did the Malack use a space monster and not an automated defence system?

Why are both pieces in the same vault?

Why is the crystal powered by light?

Why in the hell is the vault guarded by a monster instead of being simply locked?

Someone had to make the crystal, someone had to hide it, and you really need to take that into account. Why did they make it like that? Answer that.
