The Beginning of a Crusade [ATTN: Antanjyl]

[This session of the Imperial Senate is to be considered completely secret until such time as I reveal it.]

The head of the Progressive Party was in full fury, "We have the reports from Mr. Kermani, correspondance proving not only the existence of a slave market but the implied active participation in it of the Antanjylian government, video surveilance, three dead ESS agents, three Imperial Marine casualties, two dead slave girls, several billion dollars worth of destroyed property, and all you shitheads want to do is suck on your thumb and pretend this never happened? What the fuck is wrong with you people?! We shit turds bigger than Antanjyl and you all are sitting here preaching 'moderation' and 'a measured response'. Well, I have a measured response, I say we go revisit an old policy and make cesspool nations fear Imperial kinetic weapons! Destroying a few capitals would go a long way towards making Imperial opinion very clear."

Viktor Boderenko, Primus of the Senate and ally of political convenience, if not exactly ideological conscience, of the man now ranting, banged his hammer on the gavel, "Arthur, please. I agree with you in principle about this, but could you please at least pretend to observe the Senatorial rules about decorum? Yes, we need to formulate a response, but not this instant, and I don't think turning Antanjyl into rubble is exactly the tone we want to set. At least not yet. The Antanjylian government knows what happened, we know what happened, but nobody else does. Let's keep it that way until we know for sure what's going on elsewhere, then we can formulate a response to Antanjyl specifically, and slavers in general.

"In the meantime, the Empress has decided to announce that broad strokes of what went down, specifically that it was a string operation gone horribly wrong, with specifics coming once everything becomes clear. Obviously the Government is going to back her, but I'd like to vote on it in order to give the Opposition a chance to voice their opinion."

It came to pass that the vote for this measure was unanimous, and it was surmised that it was largely due to Arthur Blake's impassioned speach. What was even more clear, although it would only be later, once everything had come to pass, that the sleeping giant that had once helped rid the world of an injustice was rousing from its slumber to right another. It was only a matter of time until the arsenal of the giant was used once again to put down the purveyors of iniquity.

Antalia Castle, Throne Room

Emperor Galf had been told the news of the slave vessel which was destroyed in Scandinavian States Harbor some time ago. Though assured that they couldn't tie what happened to the Empire, he wasn't too sure. If anything happened though, he had more than enough resources at his disposal to put up more than a fair fight. Though at this time, with his navy relatively thinned across the globe, a war was something he would try to avoid. After all, with no evidence to bare against him, what would the international community think? Galf would know what to say, since Galf could not lose, especially at such a crucial time as this...

"Nothing can stop us..." Galf said in a fanged parody of a smile as he leaned back on his throne, bringing a deep red cup of blood to his lips, as he gave a glance to the window, viewing the hundreds impaled outside, "Gares!"

"Yes my Emperor!" Gares quickly responded, like the good soldier he was.

"I require you to make some changes to the Slave Harbors. If any unknown ships approach our shores I want this taken out by our artillery immediately. After all, being so isolated has its own benefits. I'd like the Legion Virus to garner more funding, perhaps another hundred billion."

"Yes sir!"

"Take it out of our bank account or whatever it is you do. If we receive any attacks inform our allies. Is the Ragnarok Program still coming along?" Galf finally slowed down his talking as he stared his dark red eyes at the large general in front of him, who seemed to shrink, "If so I'd like them to hurry that up. With these programs pushed into overdrive I am heavily confident that nothing can go wrong, especially with no evidence against us. Oh and accept no more slave trade from unknown buyers. We may be able to strike a deal with one of those criminal organizations..."

"Of course my Emperor."

"Now go. Inform the other generals to keep on a slight alert and I want our artillery mobilised to defend our two ports, though keep them in the trees so that nobody discovers them. Ah... I think that will be it for now. Carry out my wishes Gares. Remember your oath to me always, remember that this is not just a battle for your own lives, but a war for my integrity, the integrity of Antanjyl."

"Yes, my emperor. I shall never disappoint you. Praise be to Galf." He said, the second half almost religiously as he marched out of the throne room, a cold snow-filled breeze blowing in from the window as he left, his long red coat billowing behind him.

With Galf's plans implemented, he would be safe enough to continue what he had already been doing, with no fears at all present. After investing so much time and effort into Antanjyl, it would be too bad that he doubted there would actually be any type of conflict to reach Antanjyl's soil. Though if it did, at least that would give his military some more use other than enslaving people and wiping out the terrorist minorities. In fact, deep down he was actually hoping for the war, yet another chance to prove how powerful he himself truly was. Galf, the heart of Antanjyl.

[Alright, here we go.]

Imperial Navy ships up and down the coastline of the Imperium were embarking supplies and crews. It wasn't the hurried embarkation that would have followed a declaration of war, but it was definately not something the precluded a standard patrol. For one, eight entire expeditionary fleets plus three of the IN's strike fleets were preparing to be deployed. For another, IN landing ships were already exercising with Imperial Marine divisions, landing them on the coasts of plains and mountains.

Imperial Aerospace Force bombers stationed at West Galicia Isle were already on standby, warloads tucked neatly into their bays. Kinetic strike satellites were being quietly nudged from their geostationary orbits to something that would take them over Antanjyl once every day. The Europa-class orbiters were being covertly stripped of their white and blue IAS markings and repainted slate grey with IAF roundels.

And to explain it all, Her Imperial Highness Lien I Larsen appeared before the Imperium and the international community, "Citizens and friends, I come before you today to speak of a wrong not only perpetrated against the Imperium, but all of humanity. I speak of slavery, which despite the best efforts of civilization manages to continue unchecked.

Two nights ago, the Imperium executed an arrest warrant as part of a sting against a slave market. In the process, a handful of slavers were killed by an Imperial Marine squad. However, the remaining crew blew themselves, two slave girls, three External Security Service agents, several billion dollars worth of private property, and also injured three Imperial Marines. The people responsible belong to a group called the Antanjyl Slave Market, which the Imperium cannot only prove exists without a shadow of a doubt with the evidence gathered during the course of the operation, but which also hints at the collussion of the Antanjylian government.

"I realize that such an accusation is very grave, for if the Antanjylian government is the organization running the slaving effort in that country, they have committed an act of war, plus crimes against humanity and crimes of war. However, the Imperium is prepared to drop such accussations if the Antanjyllian government arrests all inviduals belonging to the Antanjyl Slave Market, extradites them, and hands over all documents it has or can find about the slavers and their organization. If, however, the Antanjylian government does not comply, the Imperium will have no choice but to assume the worst and commence the blockading of the Antanjyl coast and shutting down the airspace of Antanjyl. The Imperium will deny Antanjyl any revenue through international commerce and starve them out of existence should they refuse to comply.

"No doubt the international community would like their diplomats to see the evidence, and we would be happy to provide copies of any hardcopy we possess, but I'm afraid the original evidence will remain in lockdown until such time as the persons responsibly are brought to justice. That is all."

To the Nation of Scandavian States,

We are appalled by the fact that you have attempted to blockade Antanjyl in the attempt to produce a forced proof that he deals in slaves. However we can assure you this is not true. Our scientists have been in Antanjyl for nearly a year now and have not seen hide nor tail of any 'slave'. If you choose not to take our word we request that you allow our military base in the region an ample amount of food and water while allowing our scientists to return to Maldaathi.

Galf stared at the screen for a moment, a fanged scowl crossing over his face as he brought a glass of red liquor to his lips. In front of him was a banquet fit for an Emperor, with large quantities of meat and strange dishes plated upon a massive table, surrounded by Galf's personal staff. From dukes to slave masters to the few generals not away on business. Almost immediately the room was filled with cries of outrage.

"They can't do this without proof!" The Minister of Antanjyl's economy suddenly shouted, getting onto her feet as she shook a fist at the screen, "This is outrageous! Who the hell do they think they are?!"

"Gah..." Slave Master Sirius muttered, his aged face filled with distraught, "We can't hand over millions of our own workers and soldiers, can we? Theres also that massive shipment due... Emperor Galf?"

After another minute of chatter, the Emperor himself finally stood up, his demonic visage, not entirely natural, reaching behind him to hold up the Brunhild sword, which he promptly stabbed into the feasting table to get the group's attention. His eyes shimmered as he opened his mouth, speaking in a repulsive, dark voice which could send shivers down the fiercest soldier's spine.

"Now you see why I've brought you here, correct?" Galf muttered, spitting at the floor as a small boy rushed over to wipe it off, "If there is one thing I know... Its that the international community will not stand for something so outlandish without proof. It is time for us to send our own representative in front of a television camera. I would do it myself, but I would like someone a little more personable."

"So who will it be?" General Hikash said quietly, strumming his beard with a free hand as the other stirred a spoon deep in a bowl of red colored broth, "And what will we tell our allies who have diplomats within our borders?"

"Oh shut up and just say their name. Theres only one of them after all." Secretary of Finance Lanea Spirav said indignantly, "Maldaathi. They won't enjoy the fact that they can't leave, not to mention the fact that they'll be starved as well..."

Sirius whispered to himself, "The slaves... They will be the first to starve..." He said in a voice that was almost depressed, "Though perhaps when they all die off we can hide everything and lower that country's standing within the international community?"

"Good..." Galf said with a smile at Sirius, "But back at the matter at hand, I have chosen the Foreign Minister Daemon Farwell. If we can trust anyone to display outrage in the international community it is him. Though if anything happens, we must be prepared to fight tooth and nail for this country... Which is why Gares shall take command."

There were resounding sounds of affirmation all around the table at the spokesman chosen. He was a bit rough around the edges, but still had a certain amount of respect and dignity to him that was hard to forget. Finishing this, the large group of people once again continued to eat.

-------------------------------------------
Message to the International Community
-------------------------------------------

Daemon Farwell sat seated in front of the camera, a black wall behind him and two archaic looking lanterns on either side of him, giving the entire room a mellow feel to it. He was a man in his late 30s, however still had the warm smile of a man much younger, perhaps that which reminded someone of a brother or the like. Brushing his black hair behind him, he coughed a bit and took a drink of water before beginning the speach...

"Hello, this is Daemon Farwell, Foreign Minister of Antanjyl and loyal follower of our Emperor Galf. I've come to you today to make a plea, not just for myself or our emperor, but for the entire population of Antanjyl who will suffer from this... And perhaps even the world while we're at it, since if we allow nations to blockade others without any facts, then where will that road eventually lead us? It would no doubt lead to Anarcy, since one nation cannot attempt to simply walk in and blockade another simply because they think they are doing something wrong, without any evidence alluding to the fact."

Daemon smiled warmly and leaned back in his chair, "Though I'm getting a bit off topic. What I'm here to tell you all is that the government of Antanjyl is an Isolationist Empire, and for this very reason we feel that Scandanavian States is simply trying to stop us from following our way of governing this nation's people. It is morally wrong for them to even attempt such a thing, so they've decided to talk of slaves and the like, without any burden of proof. Now they expect you, the international community, to listen to them and do as they say.

But you cannot allow them to do this!

If you do, you will be punishing innocent people for something that we have nothing to do with. The last reported act of slavery Antanjyl had ever been involved with was over one hundred years ago! We admit it was wrong of us to do this, but to look into our history to find a way to punish us, why... That is just disgusting! So please, for the sake of our great nation and everyone who lives here, don't allow this to happen..."

The screen was suddenly shut off with a panoramic view of some mountains with clouds going by in the backdrop. In the background classical music began playing before the entire thing went black.

Leaving aside the fact that you think anybody would be stupid enough to use a blockade to generate proof of wrongdoing, the Imperium already has all the evidence it needs. If you would like, I can forward a copy of the Slave Market and our operative that carries the untamperable digital watermark of the External Security Service. We can also provide video of the sting itself, which carries audio picked up by a long-range microphone.

As for your men, I'm afraid that once the blockade is in place the Imperium can't allow anything into Antanjyl by way of ship. We will, of course, allow any diplomatic or military personel to withdraw, but I'm rather afraid that you will have to rely on your hosts in Antanjyl to provide your troops with relief until such time as your troops do withdraw. Considering that the Imperium is going to use military assets to starve your nation to death, do you honestly believe the Imperium is going to shy away from combat with a slaver nation that has little more than a fifth of the population of the Imperium and whose entire military outbudgets the Imperial Navy on its own by the slightest margin? We won't.

However, what we will do, is see your head and that of your ministers and flag officers on pikes, give the population of Antanjyl the ability to choose its own government, and to free the slaves in your nation. Especially if you push the Imperium. So please, make our day and give us any excuse.

Galf stared at the message before tossing it into a nearby fire, a grim smile on his face. While he knew for a fact that alone he would not be able to defeat them, he was completely sure that his ability to garner allies at this time would pay off against them, should they be foolish enough to attack. After all, any evidence they had was at the very most circumstantial, since all slave vessels, though from Antanjyl, had nothing from the government onboard to incriminate him...

"Now I suppose it would be rude not to respond, wouldn't it?" He asked with a sadistic grin, his messenger, a small boy in a military uniform cowered a bit at the expression, "Well lets prepare another letter for our enemy, shall we?"

SIC: Upon the Emperor's brave words, all over the country the military was mobilising whenever there was sufficient cloud cover over the country, which was very common within the snow choked country (http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y21/Kutulmak/Awesomesauce.jpg). While not very large, it was extremely mountainous and frozen, with an extremely small amount of farmland distributed throughout it. Though the harsh terrain, though hostile to all but the heartiest souls, was easily defendable. To make this certain, whenever the cloud cover was dense enough numerous battalions of artillery quickly began before being covered in camoflauge nets. By the end of the first week all troop movements have finished, and the only port city of Kinshash was quietly evacuated, the entire population moving by railroad to other areas of the city. The few that remained would simply need to fend for themselves. The naval forces not already fighting overseas quickly evacuated to rocky encroppings to better protect themselves from being spotted.

Meanwhile, within Antalia palace, Galf looked over the latest message and laughed, tossing the thing out onto the spike field, where numerous religious terrorists had perished. If they would not share the footage with him, then it was obviously nothing to worry about. If it were so condemning it would have already struck the international community, but this was not the case.

And since Jim hasn't replied yet, let's get this show on the road. Oh, and before I forget, how big is your country?]

The ships of Anti-Slavery Task Force 1 had spent the better part of three days getting underweigh and forming up in their fleet components, or at least that was true of those ships belong to the Expeditionary Fleets assigned to the task of supressing Antanjyl. ASTF 2, also known as the 1st Strike Fleet, had simply just started towards Antanjyl at the same time that the ASTF 1 assets were forming up; this was simply because ASTF 2 has no surface assets to form up on, every single ship in the task force was a submarine.

ASTF 1 was an impressive force, even by Imperial Navy standards; it had 144 capships, nearly two hundred cruisers, a little over four hundred and thirty destroyers, almost a hundred fifty logistics ships, the same number of submarines, not to mention the eight Gehenna class fleet flagships. ASTF 2 was a much smaller and more straight forward force, comprised of seventy-two SSNs and SSGNs whose only purpose was to hunt down and kill enemy commerce ships and warships, which meant it wouldn't be directly involved in the blockade and probable destruction of the Antanjylian navy.

Even though ASTF 2 had a three day head start, it would take both the better part of a week to reach their stations. That, of course, also meant that Anantjyl had the same amount of time to prepare, but nobody in the Joint Strategic Command expected that to matter much, if at all.

It looks nice. Thats where the mountains are located pretty much. "So they should be here within two weeks according to our allies and satellite feeds? Hmm... Thats quite a bit of time to plan and make sure that those foreign bastards suffer." Galf said with a smile as he moved figurines across a large map of Antanjyl, a snow filled breeze moving through the room, "They are unfamiliar with the terrain... Not to mention the Slave Tunnels. With this in our favor, along with our traps and camoflauged troops..."

"But they outnumber us greatly..." Gares said in a repulsed grumble, sitting back in his chair, which was trembling under his seven foot tall, heavily muscled frame, "And our ships?"

"Well I have a few plans in mind to save them in case the enemy gets trigger happy." Galf suddenly let out a fanged grin, "However... With more soldiers in this enviornment, it simply means more troops to feed and maintain. If we can have some allies cut off their supply routes, we can starve them faster than they can starve us. Also..."

Galf continued to smile as he went over more and more possible strategies with his generals, each one more impressive than the last. It was easy to admire such a cold and calculating leader, who attempted to make each and every single advantage the enemy had into a disadvantage. Even if the enemy came to shore, Galf assured everyone at the table that the enemy would never leave Antanjyl alive. At this, everyone at the table felt a sense of relief in the divine light reflected off of their leader.

OOC: So has the invasion fizzled? After all the work I put into my numerous preparations... Ah well. I guess Antanjyl will go back to opening our slavery up a bit more once the heat has died down.

[No, I've just been busy with other stuff. I'll try to get a post in tonight.]

[[Mind if I rile up some aid under the guise of an unjust regime trying to depose our benevolent ruler? ^_~ Also, I would like the war to have a seperate title. Like "The Sovereign War" Or whatever. Since I haven't admitted to having slaves I wouldn't really appreciate something overtly stating such a fact. Wouldn't look good in a history book.]]

[You're free to call the war whatever you want, I haven't even named it yet.

As for the support, be my guest.]

really piss my government or the Admiral off? Like, launch a gas attack or something?]

The ships of Anti-Piracy Task Force 1 slowly wound their way around the nation a hundred miles off shore, almost boa-like in the way it constricted the space around Antanjyl. Any aircraft that were coming or going from Antanjyl were instructed to either turn around and/or land in Antanjyl. Ships approaching the blockade line were turned away with a message informing them that no sea traffic to or from Antanjyl would be allowed, always with the implied threat of enforcement hovering in the background.

Finally, a message went out over every open radio frequency, "This is Fleet Admiral Xavier DeSoto, commanding Anti-Piracy Task Force 1. I call upon the ring leaders of the Slave Market to surrender themselves and any government officials in collusion with those private individuals to do likewise. Those individuals who run the slave trade have twenty-four hours to signal their intention to surrender. That is all. Admiral DeSoto, out."

[[Antanjyl is far too smart to further incriminate itself. However, I'll make another thread where one of my planes will fly over your blockade in an attempt to incite the international armada against you. The only slavery you're likely to detect will be if we win and a few thousand of your people eventually disappear into the night after our invading forces come ashore. IF we decide to come ashore.

But yeah, I'll make the response in another thread.]]

[*grins* But of course. I honestly didn't expect anybody to surrender, and neither does DeSoto. Just issuing the ultimatum so that things can be shelled.]
