Aux-la-Philan, Philanchez

The Imperium had stood for centurys yet the nobles usurped much of the power of the Emperor's. This would not continue.

Johan IX had recently taken the Imperial Crown and Throne and he had dreams for this empire. He knew the poeple could do better but they needed a strong guiding monarch. He would be different then all before him. His first act was to call on all retainers and nobles armys to muster in Aux-la-Philan.

He told the nobles that in the name of unity and the ceaseing of inter-belligerence, all armed forces would be placed under the Crown and all would have a seperate Commandant. they would no longer be under the rule of the Nobles but under the Crown. his next act was employed as the armies were assimilated.

All nobles present had their rule over their lands taken away and were left with their estates. They would be given positions in the Imperial Council of Lords which would be the advisers and court of the Emperor.

In two swift moves of utter briliance and domminance he had taken all virtual power away from the nobles. He would rule like none other had. ANy noble that rebelled was quickly hunted down and killed by the Imperial Philanchian Army and replaced by one of the Emperors close friends.

It was the beginning of a new era, an era of pure absolutism and autocracy. The Emperor would rule over all and all would obey.

OOC: basically its a landlocked empire(is there a map we are useing?) which has recently become absolutist...very steeped in cavalry and archer dominance with a main force of spearmen rather than swordsmen...ill post other stuff later...any who want contact just post here...im looking for Caladonn to post here and be my naval imperial ally ;) although others are welcome...

IC:

King Clauro sat on his throne, hunched over some old text. He was a young man, crowned barely months ago, but he was strong. Like all kings before him who sat on this throne, he lusted for another land. But he also knew he needed allies. Which is why he had sent the messenger to meet Johan IX of Philanchez. The messenger would bring the hand of friendship to this region that Clauro had no imperialistic idea's about. Being land locked, Frozopia could not use its extensive naval forces to great use. This was a chance to build trade and more importantly, make an ally. The messenger would hopefully be meeting the emperor about now......

Johan sat on his throne, attending to daily matters of court and intrigue when a messenger was sent in. he walked hurriedly up the aisle and knealed before the Emperor. Johan looked down upon him. He looked nothing like men he had seen before. Ancient texts from Rome spoke of fierce northern barbarians but his people had never encountered them. perhaps they were branching out into the world?

At any rate, Johan spoke "Welcome messenger, I am Johan IX, Emperor of Philanchez, you may call me Johan. From where do you hail and what do you offer. Ah, and what is you name?"

"I am a noble from the lands of Frozopia, far to the north of here. My name is George, my mission to extend the hand of friendship to the mighty people of Philanchez. First let me bring you a gift to show our friendship."

George stood, turned around and clicked his fingers. 4 Men walked in, carrying a heavy chest. Hurriedly carrying it infront of the Emperor, they opened it to reveal armour of great beauty. Plate mail armour, so well crafted and cared for that it shone, appearing almost as if it was made of silver.

Encrusted along the armourp were priceless gem's and rubies, that shone brightly in the daylight. The helm consisted of a simple winged helmet, yet its simplicity only made it more beautiful.

And the sword. A sword of the sharpest edge, perfectly balanced, its hilt encrusted with more precious stones. Beside it sat a shield, polished brightly so that you could see your reflection within it. It was boardered by more precious stones.

It was truly an object of great beauty.....

Johan sat stunned at the maginificence and beauty of the pieces laid before him. "I-I thank you for your genorous gift. Philanchez will indeed be glad to have formal relations with Frozopia. I am pleased to say that we will offer your King a gif as well for you to take back with him along with the news of you gaining a new ally. If you shall stay for a while and observe the court we will be able to create the magnificent Philanchian spear we will return as a gift to your King."

Immediately smiths were ordered to create the magnificent spear. The philanchian spear which had a six foot shaft and a one and a half foot point of metal on it. This particular spear would have the shaft gilded in gold and engraved with silver. A large diamond would be placed at the but of the shaft and the spear point would be made of the finest steel with golden script engraved in it. A second piece which the Emperor did not want to tell about yet was gilded steel gauntlets with fine engraveing and gems on top of the knuckles. Guantlet and spear, eternal symbols of Philanchez...

"Your generosity is without bounds, your majesty." George replied with a smile.
"May Frozopia and Philanchez be great allies in the future, and may our shared greatness be a light in a chaotic world." George would discuss more important business later, but what was important had passed. Frozopia had its first ally. For now George would exchange the niceties.

Johan walked with George into the Imperial Court. as he ascended to his throne he said to him "I have enjoyed your company these past weeks. Your nation seems to be a great one and one which will only benefit us as an ally.

In return for your Kings gracious generosity I present you with this Philanchian spear to take to your King.

Even with its ornate gilding and engraveing it is stil a battle worthy spear and we hope that he takes pride in receiving such a fine gift. And as a surprise we give these gauntlets to your King.

These are the Imperial symbol of Pilanchez. Gauntlets gripping a Philanchian spear. we hope that he will proudly display it."

George gaped at the spear and gauntlets.
"I have heard tales of your generosity, your majesty, but words do not describe the depths to it. Thank you, these will be a great gifts for my King."

Now is the time to hell him
"Tell me your majesty, have you heard of the Kirusban Empire?"

Emperor Nexlon scrutinized the offical document carefully, taking in all it's information. The paper stated the current situation of Philanchez, a land a ways west of Ravea; Nexlon frowned as he finished the document. This Johan was smarter than most kings, and he seemed to know it, too. He was dangerous, and could make Philanchez just as dangerous. Nexlon decided that it was safer to remove this new emperor then risk him getting much more powerful. Ravea didn't need any competition when it dominated the land around it.

Ravea had an expert army, made up of thousands of Jeagers-lightly armored, well trained, and versitile soldiers armed with long, light lances and curved sabers. These men could demolish almost any force they came up against, especially when they were supported by the huge number of armored swordsmen Ravea had to offer, as well as it's deadly force of lancer calvary. Yojimbo fighters-hardened mercinaries from other lands-added to the army. Crossbow infantry and a number of siege weapons completed the force.

The Ravean navy was just as powerful; made up of a core of well-made and lightning-fast frigates, it could easily hold it's own against other navies. Ramships, fireships, and huge Galleons supported the seas as well, making it difficult to compete with the Ravean ocean forces.

As if to spite it's fabulous forces, Ravea seldom used them. Instead, it relied on the Ravens, a legendary and secretive group of assassians and spies who specilized in infiltrating enemy govenments and armies. Cut of the head and the body will fall, as the old saying goes.

Although Nexlon did want to remove Johan, he didn't want to rush to any conclusions either. Instead, it made more sense to use Philanchez as much as possible before it became too powerful to compete; Nexlon would try and sponge as much profit from the nation as he could before making any dangerous moves. A twenty man delegation was sent to the royal courts of Philanchez to request an alliance and an embassy; each member of the delegation was actually a deadly Raven assassian. They would implant themselves in the government and strike when told. Fighting with hidden poisions and knives, Philanchez's new leaders would be brought to their knees.

Ravean Frigates-Well made and incredibly quick, these ships are well armed with a variety of missile weapons.
Ravean Ramships-Self explanitory. Ramships are loaded with skeleton crews and explosives and driven into groups of enemy ships for massive damage.
Ravean Skiffs-Small and quick warships equipped with a small crew and a heavy bastilla.
Ravean Fireships-Spouting Greek Fire from a special cannon and housing many archers, these ships provide deadly covering fire for the rest of the navy.
Raven Galleons-Massive and incredibly well-made, well-armored, and well-armed, but very, very slow. These ships are huge floating fortresses that can withstand many attacks before sinking.
Ravean Boarders:Well armored and fast, but without much weaponey. These ships are loaded with soldiers with the intent to board and take enemy ships. Can also be used as an effective landing craft.

IC: "I have not heard of such a nation although traders have spoken of a far off nation with odd customs and spectacular products. Perhaps this is the nation you speak of?"

Johan welcomed the Ravean delegation. He told them that he sadly could not accept an alliance with them but that he did not want war and would gladly sign a treaty of friendship. He would also allow an embassy but there was no need for twenty men and that only five need stay, the rest may leave.

OCC:Eh, Ravea doesn't like anyone getting too powerful. Although you do have a point; someone should probaly make a map. My home computer is without Photoshop or such programs, but I might be able to make a map tomorrow at school if I find the time. Just tell me where you want everything to be, and I'll try and make something.

I'll post military stats soon as well.

IC:Nexlon was deep in thought. First contact with Philanchez had gone considerably worse than he had expected. Not only did he not achive the alliance status that he wanted too, but 15 of his assassians were also sent away from the country. Five was still enough to do the job, but it would make each individual Raven's life quite a bit harder.

This was compounded to the fact that Ravea could not intimidate and interfere with Philanchez's trade routes as easily as it usually could have. Seeing as how it was a landlocked nation, there were no ocean shipping routes to boss around with Ravea's considerable navy; one less thing for Philanchez to be catious about. A military mobilization would draw suspicion and was out of the question. Nexlon hoped the Ravens would keep a low profile and could obtain as much information as they could.

Ravean Embassy in Philanchez

The five remaining Ravean ambassadors stood before Johan and bowed. One of the delagates-an short, older man-stepped forward.

"My name is Ambassador Teros; On behalf of the Ravean delagation to Philanchez, I would like to politely request for a tour of the royal courts and the surrounding area. We would like to get to know our new home."

OOC: IDK where I want to be...Id prolly have to see the map though...

IC: "Very well. I shall escort you myself." said Johan as he stood, hand on the pommel of his sword, and escorted the men out of the court. As he left two Royal Guards followed him.

OOC: just consider the rest of this niceties and such...im kinda sorry that you picked me for your enemy though because its gonna be damn hard to assasinate my monarch...you have to remember he just stole all the power of the nobles...not only is he quite paranoid but also well trained in self defense...

OCC:I'm not expecting to, actually. Although it would make any kind of war between us a good deal easier.

IC:The Ravens glanced at each other as Johan led them through the courts, giving them small bits of information as he stopped to examine this and that. The assassians hadn't expected a chance like this so soon. Should they take it? No profit had come from Philanchez so far, and Lord Nexlon would be displeased if they killed Johan so soon. Still, an opportunity like this might never come up again.

Teros nodded to the other four Ravens as Johan had his back to them; they all drew hidden knives from their boots and sleeves. Teros unhooked his cloak to reveal a hidden sword. Nodding to each other, they all silently decended upon the emperor of Philanchez.

OCC: Do what you want with them. Johan does certianly not have to die-indeed, it would be much more interesting to have him alive than dead. But please keep in mind that the Ravens are very skilled and experianced at killing people.

OOC: i think you missed the two guards part?...

IC: As the 'diplomats' showed themselves for assassins the two guards drew their swords. The sound of steel sword on steel scabbard alerted Johan as he swung around and unsheathed his sword. The three men were around the five diplomats who mostly had knives. Johan said, "Drop your weapons and you will be sent back to Ravea, go through with this and be mercilessly slaughtered."

As the assassins dropped their weapons Johan and the guards moved forward, lowering their sword, and then swung quickly cutting of the heads of three of the dipomats. they then clustered around the remaining two, castrated them, and then went about the business of makeing it so they survived the castration and could be sent back to ravea. Afterwords Johan said, "I never said all of you would go back, nor did I say you would go back as you were."

OOC: Can I join as a colony and subject kingdom of Valgard? Also if I can join is it okay if a ruling warrior class of Valgardians can live up to three times the lives normal humans can achieve (about 240 to 300 years on average)?

OOC: Aw I was hoping George would help defend you. Aw crap.

IC:
George quickly rushed to meet the emperor. He had heard events of yesterday, the attempt of Ravean assasintations. Talking to the Emperor assistant he politely requested a meeting.

OOC: I was going to make an offer (you can RP this). I help you defeat and conqueror the Raveans, you help me conquer and and defeat the Kirusbans (1 after another so its always 2v1. I havent declared war on the Kirusbans yet.) We split the land and loot 50-50, and become joint imperialistic allies. Well?

OCC:I doubt the Ravans would give up that easily, but meh, I'll let it go for now. And Topal, you had better be prepared for some tough battles before conquer Ravea. Who knows, mabey Ravea and the Kirusbans will ally? Anyways, I like a challenge :P

IC:Nexlon shook his head and sighed as the two defeated assassians were droped at his feet. He immedietly ordered one killed; the remaining Raven happened to be Teros.

"Well, Teros, so much for the "Fight to the Death and never get Captured" part of your job. Becuase of your mistakes, War will be inevitable. And we don't have many allies to call upon as I would like."

"My Lord," gasped Teros, "Perhaps if we go to the east...There are nations who are friendly to us! We can plead for help!"

Nexlon stood and delived a sharp kick to the Raven.

"No! The nations of the east are too far away and are fighting their own wars. I won't have Ravea beg for troops. I doubt that Philanchez can defeat me on their own, but we don't know what allies they have."

Nexlon waved his hand.

"Take him away and to something nasty to him. I want this man to suffer for what he has done." The royal guards complied as Teros was dragged away screaming. The only thing to do now was prepare the military for an long war.

OOC: yes to topal and to ravea, you said do what you want with them...oh and just wondering how the man being castrated wasnt nasty enough so YOU have to go and torture him too?

I missed this when you posted it but Im not sure. You would have to post in the Past Tech RP Planning Thread about them. I wouldn't mind you as a cubject kingdom or something just alert me before there are any revolts or other such things.

OOC: Sorry, about that, but I made a confusion I was on my AOL explorer with multiple browsers open and I pasted that rp from my Microsoft Word, but I accidentally put this on your thread. The reason for this is because I had both this thread and the Past Tech RP planning thread open at the same time, but still want to join this thread with the subject kingdom not being a subject to you, but to that of their homeland of Valgard.

A messenger from Ostia entered the Royal Court of Johan dressed in full Roman Military atire then took a knee in front of the throne, he looked over to see a Barbarian also in the room,

"My name is Lucious Grevious from the Empire of Ostia, i bear this from my Mighty Emperor"

From under his left arm he placed a box on the floor, not raising his eyes he opended it slowly turning it around so the contents were visible. Inside lay a remarkable Gladius golden trim, jewels encrested in the sheath and handle,

"Your Majesty im here on official buisness regarding a netrual status..maybe an Alliance between our two mighty empires...this is a time on which we need support from Nobles such as yourself sir..."

OOC:Ravea, i am going to war with the Frozipans in Kurisbo..well not exactly in Kurisbo but in the Kurlie islands. I have 2 Entire Legions headed to the east from Ostia now.

OOC: Im allies or at least friendly with the Kirusban Empire. So I wont attack them.

OOC:yes the Kurisban's are your friend, that is why once my men arrive i have to leave..they are in-between i think...there will never be hostillities between our nations in Kurisbo..

Perhaps your legions might just run into a few Ravean Frigates along the way...We'll see.

The Toop mob stopped to grab some rest and relax, the Boss Captain stood above his men, he was the only one wearing any armour, he had pillaged it from a rather advanced nomadic tribe, it covered his chest, head and half of one arm, the nomads had called it "Bronze" but Boss Ripgutz didn't like that name so he called it "Ripgut Armour" the mob agreed that it sounded like an excellent name.

Ripgut was not like the other Toop, he was a new breed which had been named Noom by the various prophets in Toop who declared to be learned in such matters, Ripgutz had pretty much better everything then the Toop men who were weak and frail causing only little damage in a singular attack, Ripgutz could have taken any task in the Toop armies but he had drafted himself into the Raiders, piratical mobsters who would go from nomadic village to nomadic village looting, pillaging and raping, it was taxed lightly by the Toop King and had become a lucrative pastime with a Toop able to become a noble in a short period if he was estute enough and stayed alive, Ripgutz had a tendancy to stay alive.

A small block of black on the horizon had attracted Ripgutz eyes, he stared deep into the morning mist, it was a town, possibly Nomadic, he smiled as his carrying Grobble had only just managed to catch up.

"Come on lads, next towns just over this hill!"

(OOC: I dunno if you're willing to RP with Goblins or now that i've introduced them demi-Orcs, basically the Goblins are just as strong as a normal Human and the demi-Orc is as strong as a strong human, it's a balance and no real advantage to me, by the way, they're on thier way to a Philanchian town, once they realise it's not nomadic then they'll open into trade)

"Ah welcome Lucious. I thank you for your gift and wish to inquire as to your nation of origin. We are a fairly hard people with relatively good overland trade and allys in Frozopia. Oh and my name is Johan, please call me that." Johan took the sword and looked it over. It was a short sword compared to most he had seen and used but he saw its purpose. With a large sheild and long ranks this weapon would be deadly.

Lucious nodded not raising his eyes to look upon the king,

"I come from Ostia in the West, my Emperor wishes to honor you with this gift i have brought forth..we need trade routes that would be accessible on our way to the East..a new war brews there"

Ripgutz and his men stopped about a mile out, the Noomian could now see that the town was densly populated and did not bear the hallmarks of a nomadic civilisation, there would still be money to be made, the loot carried on the back of the Grobbleys could be exchanged for better weapons and tools, the group wandered the rest of the way in to the town, there was no longer a rush to get there.

(OOC:what do my people see? Are they greeted friendily or hostily?)

"A new war you say? between whom? And to what profit does it involve you? Also, please do not act meek and beneath me. I take it as a personal affront."

The messenger stood and replyed,

"Johan, my emperor sends many ships to the East, An officer returned and spoke to the Senete about a nation called Kurisbo..we are sending a General to complete the alliance between our 2 great nations...i am not entirely clear on who..it is we are fighting ..no one knows...it is being kept a secret untill it happens..does this news..intrest you?"

Lucious looked at the King deep in thought,

"that is all i know your highness.."

Ripgutz and his men stopped about a mile out, the Noomian could now see that the town was densly populated and did not bear the hallmarks of a nomadic civilisation, there would still be money to be made, the loot carried on the back of the Grobbleys could be exchanged for better weapons and tools, the group wandered the rest of the way in to the town, there was no longer a rush to get there.

It was a rather large town by the name of Julimek that the toops had stumbled towards. Its walls were of medium height and relatively thick. Swordsmen and Spearmen stood guard at the gate and allowed the Toops to enter after a few provisory questions and the confiscation of their weapons untill they left.

OOC: any weapons that were in chests and such would not be confiscated its just stuff they saw immediately...

"My allies, the Frozopians have spoke of this...Kusrisubo...they say that it is a lush island nation far to the east and that they looted their shoreline but are now engaged in talks or such. Either way, we have no means to get there and are only interested in our immediate surroundings. So back to the talk of alliance. What can yous nation offer?"

The Messenger replyed to the King with great enthusiasm,

"My Nation offers fine things on the way to and from Kurisbo, we will be traveling alot through the waters off your coast and might aswell stop in mighty Johan..? an example...spices..silks..."

The news that Ostia was going to war with another nation was all over the city, what that nation was remained a secret so not to alarm the Frozipans of the attack. IC: "This would be most profitable. I believe that I can not agree to a military alliance but would be glad to reduce taxes and tarrifs on your trade and goods if you do the same for ours."

The Messenger replyed with a smile,

"that is why i am here Johan, i feel very privilaged to be in this court today..also glad to not be on a war galley going to the other side of the world to fight an unknown enemy..i accept on behalf of Emperor Xavier your terms..Ostia agrees to tax reduction!"

He paused then continued,

"Military Alliance is not a problem, as long as we have friendly discussions"

Lucious then bows to the king, and waits his approval to rise...

OOC:holy shit..with an army like that you are land locked..damn..

Ripgutz left the group just inside the town walls, he needed some information from the Guards.

"Is there a market in this town?"

"I assure you that no quarrel will come between our nations. that is as long as your country isn't the one sending troops to fight my allys the Frozops in the east."

OOC: heh...if we are useinf regular pop's like in RL then take three zeros off of each but yea its pretty damn good ;)

"not to my knowing Johan, so it is done..i shall return home, thank you"

The messenger turned at headed for the doors in the kings court. If Ostia was sending troops to the East he didn't want to be here when the king found out.

Johan had been thinking of ways to mark his reign, more than just uprooting the feudal lords but something monumental, something none had done before. He decided that what best suited him was conquest. Not only conquest of the lakes that their nation was centered around but conquest of the entire continent. He would be remembered as Johan the Great in his mind and he could imagine the epithat on his tomb Here lies the greatest ever, Johan the Great. Conqueror and autocrat, creator of the Philanchian Empire.
