A short history of Saudi Arabia, from 2005 to 2015.
- The start of a new year brought many changes throughout the Kingdom. The Saudi Royal Family finally took on the threat Al-Quieda(sp) and other terrorist networks, launching a huge offensive throughout all Saudi land cutting off all money and supplies, and starting rehabilitation programs for the minor offenders. For three months headlines were filled and network television broadcast dozens of stories of gunbattles and bombs being set off in Riyadh and other major Saudi cities. Hundreds of people died during raids, as the Saudi commando units were not very good at rapid response.
- By May, all indications were that the terrorists that once held sway in Saudi Arabia had been beaten and were now trying to either flee the country or merge back into civilian life. In news that shocked the Kingdom, and resonated throughout the world, Osama bin Laden was captured alive in Mecca as he tried to make a surprise visit to his beleagured followers to boost moral. Though the United States was determined to grab custody of bin Laden, he was quickly tried and executed under traditional Saudi law, broadcast over all television stations that would carry the event.
- With the terrorism threat basically over, the Saudi government could now look to fix its local problems. Major steps were taken to improve the ordinary person's life, with a slight loosening of Shia law, in order to be able to take advantage of open capitalistic systems of trade. Oil production had not reached a peak as doomsayers had predicted, at least not yet. But major projects were undertaken to make nuclear power more stable and cost effective, with dozens of plants being built in more remote areas of the Saudi desert.
- The Middle East had become a more violent place, so the Saudi military began a major process of refitting its military and upping training requirments. Several joint efforts were taken with other militaries of the region, though only Iraq has been confirmed as a participant. A major reproachment happened between the two, and relations drastically warmed among the two former enemies.
- Saudi Arabia attempts to take a more visible stand in the global world of international politics and trade, though not all view it as successful. The Royal Family has shrunk, and now the leader is King Faud al-Saud.
- A major fortification process along the Saudi border is started, with few details being given. Major fortifications, such as walls and minefields, are seen at areas, as well as numerous gun batteries around major cities and along the border. The Saudi's also start investing in space technology, launching several test rockets as platforms for launching satellites.
- The fortification process continues, with few more details given out quite yet. Friendly relations continue with Iraq. Not much else has changed.
