Government System
The government system was always an imperial dictatorship since 1958 but kept the Assembly adding some democracy to the government. The constitution was democratic too. For someone to claim the Imperial Throne they must gain support from the people. It was a mix of dictatorship and democracy. The people had no problem with this, except for the Communists, but that’s another story. When the first change of regime occurred during the Third Greek Civil War the new ruler, Empress Olympia disbanded the Assembly, destroying what democracy was left in the country.
Imperial Throne
The Imperial Throne is they key governing element in the government of the Fourth of August Regime. It has complete power over the country and any major change needs the final say of the Imperial Throne to be approved. Any man or woman can lay claims to the throne but they will need a lot of influence in the military and among the people to back up there claims. So far there have only been two regime changes in the Empire’s history.

History
Greece is around 9,000 years old. The first Greek settlements were by the Minoans, which settled on the island of Crete and the Mycenaeans which settled on mainland Greece which was around 7,000 B.C.
Around 3,000 B.C. the Minoan civilization on Crete was wiped out by a very, strong volcanic eruption on the island of Santorini in the Aegean Sea. The Mycenaeans city-states were in always at war with each other but they finally reunited for the war against Troy. After the war, peace did not last long. The Mycenaean city-states started there fighting again. Finally barbarians from Northern Europe called the Dorians invaded Greece and defeated the war-torn Mycenaeans, forcing them to leave mainland Greece and to sail towards the Aegean Islands where Greece entered its "Dark Age".
During the Dark Age they had to restart civilization by farming and hunting. As they relearned there lost knowledge they soon started calling themselves Hellenes or Greeks. Many Greek city-states where founded on mainland Greece and to name a few they were Sparta, Athens, Corinth, Thebes, Macedonia, etc… Athens was the city-state that brought the "Golden Age" to Greece where philosophy, medicine, astrology, mathematics, arts, etc… flourished.
Hellenistic Period (336 B.C.-146 B.C.)
The Hellenistic Period is the most interesting part of the nation’s history. There were three key city-states that helped shape the future of Greece and they were Athens, Sparta and Macedonia.
Athens created the world’s strongest fleet made up of the Athenian invention, the triremes. Meanwhile Sparta had the world’s strongest army. They were both rivals but that did not stop them to help each other during the First and Second Persian Wars, when the largest Empire, Persia, decided to invade mainland Greece. Both of them, including other city-states, successfully repelled both invasions.
Athens went on later to create the first Greek empire, the Athenian Empire. Sparta took this as a reason to finally declare a full scale war on Athens. After years of siege, Athens finally fell to Sparta. This war was later known as the Peloponnesian Wars.
In Macedonia, Emperor Philip II started his own military campaign in bringing down the Persian Empire. But he needed the help of the rest of the city-states. Sadly they were to busy fighting each other. He organized a full time, professionally trained army and came up with strategies such as the Phalanx. Not even Sparta was able to withstand Macedonia’s might. Philip II was able to reunite the city-states but was assassinated, probably paid by Persian gold, before he can begin his expedition in Asia. His son, Alexander took up the campaign and with 40,000 soldiers he was able to destroy the Persian Empire and conquer most of the known world. He spread Hellenism throughout the known world. However his empire did not last long. On his death his Empire was split in three among his Generals.
Roman Period (146 B.C.-330 A.D.)
Greece was finally brought down and was occupied for the first time by a foreign power, Rome. Greeks and Roman both saw that they where alike in many ways like religion, society, military, economy, culture and so forth. A treaty was offered for a Roman-Greco alliance so Rome and Greece can become economically and military allies. There were of course a few Greek city-states that refused this and that were Macedonia and Thrace and the city-states in Asia Minor.
The Romans conquered those city-states. The other Greek city-states wanted to do something but they did not have the military power on land to attack the Roman Army even if Sparta was to send its entire army. Things remained like that until Christianity was introduced.
Byzantine Period (324 A.D.-1453 A.D.)
When Christianity was introduced to Rome and Greece they both started following a new religion and the 12 gods of Mount Olympus became just a myth. Roman-Greco relations where going smoothly until 324 A.D. Greece started separating away from the alliance because it did not like the idea of the Pope and did not like the Roman occupation of Macedonia, Thrace and Asia Minor.
Greece separated from the Roman alliance and cut all ties with it. That’s when the Byzantine Period started and the Eastern Greek Orthodox Church was born. The Roman Empire was divided in two. The capital of the Byzantine Empire (Eastern Roman Empire) was decided to be in the newly founded city, Constantinople. When a strong army was raised it was sent out to liberated Macedonia and Thrace and then Asia Minor from Roman occupation.
The Byzantine Empire became the dominant force in the East. But as the years slowly passed by the Byzantium Empire was losing power and was becoming more unstable. Finally in 1453 the Ottomans managed to capture Constantinople which brought the end of the Byzantium Period and opened the way of the Ottoman horror that will soon spread into the Balkans.
Ottoman Period (1453-1821)
The Ottomans spread into the Balkans like a wild forest fire. Northern Greece was lost to the Ottomans but the South remained strong. Southern Greece was made up of Central Greece, Attica, Crete, the Aegean Islands, Cyprus and Peloponnesus. Cyprus was later lost to the Ottoman Empire. In 1821 Greece planned the liberation of the rest of Greece that was being occupied. An army was raised consisting of professional soldiers and mountain bandits. In 1827 all of Greece was liberated.
The Balkan Wars (1912-1913)
The two Balkans Wars raged on in 1912-1913 against the Ottomans by Greece and the other Slavic nations. The Balkan League won both wars which got the Ottomans out of the Balkans up until Eastern Thrace (Constantinople).
The World Wars (1939-1945)
The World Wars was another crippling blow to already crippled Greece. Greece desperately tried to keep out of the First World War but due to its geographic location it was forced into the war on the side of the Allies. Then World War II came knocking on the door.
Greece did not enter the second war until 1940 when Italy attempted an invasion. But they failed miserably. Even when the Italians had more firepower and soldiers they where chased out of Greece and even out of Albania and all the way back to Italy. The Hellenic Army did not enter Italy and returned back to Greece which was one of there biggest mistakes. Italy and Germany both launched an invasion on Greece. The Greek generals tried to repel them but they did not have enough soldiers or firepower to fight the Germans too.
The German Army made it all the way to the south and eventually captured the capital city, Athens. They then captured the island of Crete, after two attempts. But With the cooperation between the British Army, the British Special Forces and Greek resistance they were able to liberate Greece.
Fourth of August Regime (1958-2006)
There were too many wars for Greece to handle which plunged the country into poverty and in some regions, starvation. That is when a political party the Hellenic Imperial Party was gaining major support in Greece. When they won the 1947 elections, they revived the Greek economy and began many social and economical reforms. But a communist terrorist group killed the leader of the Hellenistic Imperialists and the Greek political world fell to chaos, which included two civil wars between the communists and royalists.
When the two civil wars ended in favor of the royalists, nobody agreed on anything and that’s when General Nikolaos Onassis attempted a military coup and succeeded.
He brought many changes to the nation. He first reorganized the army and tested it’s might against Albania and Skopje. They both fell to the Army in one week. General Nikolaos then declared the new Greek Empire called the Hellenistic Empire and declared himself Emperor.
To keep the people happy Nikolaos announced the democratic Assembly, which housed 200 Assemblymen which where voted by the people. As Nikolaos continue to rule he turned Greece into a superpower the world can fear and brought the economy to immense. The people gave the title of “the Great” to him and many people call him Nikolaos the Great.
Emperor Nikolaos also revived the Megali Idea which was originally planned by Elefterios Venizelos but he never put it into action because of his death. His Megali Idea pictured a Greater Greece controlling most of the Balkans and Turkey. Nikolaos liberated Cyprus from Turkey and then launched a full invasion on Turkey itself which brought the surrendering of the Turkish government.

On the morning of August 4, 1958 he managed to take control of the Army. He led 4,000 soldiers into the streets of Athens and surrounded the Parliament. The government quickly surrendered and Nikolaos proclaimed himself dictator of Greece and then later on claimed the title of “Emperor” when he created the Hellenistic Empire consisting of Albania, Skopje, Bulgaria, Turkey and Cyprus.
