OOC: I'm posting the invite on the main thread. I'll just assume that anyone that wants to show up has already arrived.

IC:

"Thank you for coming here today," started Praetor Territorialis Lucius Cornelius Jomus Mareanus (com. Jomo Marea) with the assembled crowd at the Curia in Rome. "The reason why we are here is because we are interested in reviving the Roman Confederacy alliance, and we gather you all today because we want your input into what you want the Confederacy to do for you. We want this to be 'everyone's' Confederacy and thus we encourage your input. We are also opening the floor to any nations who have questions or concerns about the Confederacy and what it is all about.

"Who would like to begin?"

Russian Representative Kuzma Lobtsov stood up.

"I would Gospodin Lucius. I would like to inquire as to what position will the confederacy maintain towards other major alliances of this earth such as the October Alliance and the Voronej Cooperation Organization. Also we would like to know if the confederacy would like to consider improving relations with the nation of Russian Federation and purhapse the whole of VCO, if such a project is approved by all VCO members."

"The Roman Government's position on the Confederacy is that it does not wish to position itself against any nation or alliance," said Marea. "So therefore, yes, we are committed to improving relations with Russia as well as every other nation on Earth."

"Many in our government believe the best way to avoid such a situation is to remove any clause of mandatory support in case of attack. However, mutual defense should be encouraged, to prevent larger nations from victimizing the smaller ones."

"How would you go about creating a mutual defence agreement without, essentially, a guarantee of defence?"

"There are several ways. One could follow the style of the MESC, and have the members of the alliance vote over defense issues that occur, alternatively, one could use a phrase like 'although defense of members is encouraged, it is up to individual nations to decide on their status in any conflict.'"

"Well, since it seems like our focus will be mostly on economic integration, this is an idea."

"Shall this Confederacy be open only to Mediterranean nations as it was before? Also, we believe the idea of no mutual defense agreement to be ridiculous. An alliance is a group dedicated to the protection and support of its members, and Kreynoria will join no alliance in which protection and support are not required.

Hmmnnn, Kreynoria is right- defence should be guaranteed.

"I see your point. However, what sunk the Confederacy last time was that our defence arrangement was too loose- any minor dustup would bring in the entire Confederacy and it became a strain. Perhaps we keep guaranteed defence but ensure that the rest of the Confederacy 'approves' help, like the MESC does?"

OOC: I like this, but I'm gonna stay out of it because I'd like to see another major alliance form. Make things a bit more colorful, so to speak. Good luck!
