Official Release from the Empire

To begin immediately, the October Alliance shall conduct our yearly wargames. These games will be conducted in the following locations: the Norwegian Sea, Kazakhstan, Belarus, and Murmansk. The wargames shall test the readiness of air, land, and naval forces of the various members of our alliance against each other. These wargames have been under the development and the consideration of the alliance for the better part of the past six months. The members of the October Alliance wish that all nations present and involved as well as those in proximity understand that these wargames are not hostile in nature, will be conducted within our own borders, and, lastly and most importantly, that they are not to be interferred with.

Russian Federation shall not interfere with these wargames, however may we be allowed to send observers?

Official Statement

In light of the extreme caution, logistics, and danger involved we wish to keep this between ourselves. Should a Russian observer come under harm or duress it could further strain our already fragile relations.

Official reply

We cannot answer for our allies, but we will not allow any Russian observers in or near Norwegian territory or territorial waters. We repeat our policy of sinking any vessels from hostile nations who violate our territorial waters or clearly threaten out national security.

Official Reply from the Reich

"We will allow no outside to observers into our territory during these wargames. Should our battle tactics become known to foreign nations it may compromise our ability to defend ourselves. Furthermore, tensions are already high between Russia and Germany and should a Russian observer be injured, these tensions would increase even more."

Throughout northern Norway, the military presence was becoming stronger. The citizens had been informed the previous week of the exercise, and that they might find soldiers on their properties. However, they knew that the soldiers were training so they could better defend the citizens, so they allowed it. There would perhaps be some shooting in the snow-covered streets of the cities and villages, but it would be firing blanks using MILES equipment. However, the first phase was at sea.

Out there, two aircraft carriers and their battlegroups were out, as well as a large task force lead by a Ragnarok class battleship, and three smaller surface groups consisting of cruisers, destroyers and frigates. Submarines were also lurking under the sea, and aircraft were in the skies. All the aircraft in the exercise would be based at either Andøya AFB, Banak AFB or Bodø AFB, all well within range of the Area of Operations. The exercise would span the entire Norwegian coastline, from Sør-Trøndelag to the northern-most tip of Norway, and out through the 24 nautical mile territorial waters the Kingdom had claimed. There would be naval battles, live fire exercises and a lot more. The next days and weeks would be very exiting and fun for the Norwegians, and hopefully also the Layartebians and Germanians!

Bodø, Norway...

The Waffen-OS soldiers of the 3rd Waffen-OS Infanteriebataillon of the 5th Waffen-OS 'Wiking' Division had landed in the snow-covered city where they would greet Norwegian citizens. The black-uniformed soldiers wielding SG-33 assault rifles walked through the streets, shaking hands with people and those who could speak Norwegian struck up conversations with beautiful local women who seemed impressed by the elegant German soldiers. These men were here to help protect them, just as the Norwegian soldiers were.

Before the wargames began, the OS soldiers were allowed to go to stores and buy luxuries such as alcohol, cigarettes, and candy. High-ranking officers were allowed to go to local pubs and bars, where they tried their best to develop 'relationships' with the best looking Norwegian girls.

In the Norwegian Sea, near the city of Bodø, was the 5th Reichsmarine Fleet. The ships were stationary for the time being, until the naval wargames began.

Minsk, Belarus...

The Norwegian and Layartebian soldiers had been greeted warmly by the local population. Most Belarussians could speak English, so communication was not much of a problem. The local government had allowed the Norwegians and Layartebians to go to any bars, clubs, or pubs they wished to attend and encouraged them to socialize with the citizens of Minsk. The OS-Polizei, as a standard rule, did not speak to anyone except when spoken to.

Pavlodar, Kazakhstan...

In the city of Pavlodar along the Irtysh River, Norwegian and Layartebian citizens were greeted with mixed feelings. The population of Kazakhstan had not long been under German rule, roughly for only eight years, and much of the population only spoke Russian. Their tradition was partly Russian and partly their own, so the presence of people they viewed as bizarre foreigners was a bit confusing. Some of the civilians were excited to meet such interesting people and some were afraid.

The OS made the people nervous enough with their strict policies and brutal punishments, but now there were new soldiers? Soldiers they knew nothing about? These people looked different from the Kazakhs, though some of them resembled the Germans. The civilians had also been informed that wargames were going to take place. "What is such a thing?", they thought. "Games and war mixed together?"

They had been informed by the Polizei that if they heard gunshots in the streets, not to worry. And also to not be afraid of the foreign soldiers and their tanks and jets. But how could they not be? This was new to these people. The women who were afraid offered the Layartebian and Norwegian soldiers vodka and flowers as a way to ask them to not hurt them. Very few of the Kazakhs could speak English, but roughly 80% of the population was fluent in German, so the Norwegians and Layartebians who could speak the language were able to communicate with the locals.

All-in-all, the Norwegians and Layartebians were greeted with open arms.

OOC Note that ships, missiles or aircraft marked with * are Top Secret IC. Thank you.

The medium assault carrier HMNoS "Djevelspyd", the fifth ship in the Alliance class, was 15 nautical miles off Alta, steaming southwards with its escorts, a cruiser, three destroyers and three frigates, while getting ready to start the wargames. Its airwing had been drilled continuosly for the past few weeks, partly because of the tensions between the Kingdom, partly because of the wargames which had been planned for a longer period of time. Now, they were in the best shape ever, ready to have fun. The airwing on the "Djevelspyd" contained the following aircraft.

C-6B Mule: 2
E-2E Advanced Hawkeye: 2
F-35C Rapier (JSF): 24
F-39C Typhoon: 12
RQ-15C Mack*: 2
SH-60R Seahawk: 6
SH-99C Lynx II: 2

The escorts, a Kubler class light cruiser, one Rothsky class and two Devlin Flight II class destroyers, a Bergen class air defense frigate and two Mjelde class general purpose frigates, were there for the protection of the "Djevelspyd". For that purpose, they carried a lot of armaments.

RIM-161A SM-3ER: 204
RIM-162E Evolved Sea Sparrow Missile: 576
RIM-201A Gaupe*: 272
RUM-139D VL-ASROC: 138

This was the ship-borne missiles and torpedoes in the carrier group. In addition came the rounds for the CIWS and cannons, as well as the weapons for the aircrafts. For now, they were going to move down to off Bodø, where another carrier group sat waiting.

That other carrier group was the group belonging to the HMNoS "Einar Tambarskjelve", a brand new Enterprise class heavy aircraft carrier. The "Einar Tambarskjelve" carried a much more powerful airwing than the "Djevelspyd".

S-3C Viking: 10
SH-60R Seahawk: 6

The "Tambarskjelve" was a more important carrier than the "Djevelspyd", and that showed in the escort. A Hordaland heavy cruiser, three Devlin Flight IIs, a brand new Indefatigable class destroyer and two Rothskys, as well as two Bergens and three Mjeldes. It also had a Hades class submarine attached to it. The combined weaponry for the ships was formidable.

Both the "Tambarskjelve" and the "Djevelspyd" would meet up off Bodø and greet the Layartebian and Germanian ships that were going to participate in the wargames. More Norwegian ships would also take part, but they wouldn't arrive untill later.
