It had been months since the declaration. The conscripts and elite-trained Dylaron military sat upon the borders of the Jaegar Union, poised to strike as M-26 Balten tanks sat in the Ophen Forest. The few aircraft that the crazed dictator had at his disposable had completely bombarded the Jaegar Union's capitol city of Heleth, killing both civilian and military personnel alike. Although this caused much outcry from the powerful and oil-rich nations to the east, the Republic of Dylaron found no option but to retaliate when an open attack on Graza Hill and Nene Crater. Perhaps this war was destined, and at last a unification of the Azethlei Islands could be obtained. After 20 centuries of warfare, it seemed that a united Azethlei was imminent.
The Jaegar Union was setup only a year before, uniting the nations of Regan, Khazi and Melethan into one great country. Openly declaring freedom from all shipping and trading due to and from the "evil" nation of Dylaron meant a major damage to Dylaron's economy. Soon after, the Jaeger Union declared war on Dylaron. Although Dylaron's politics were disgusting and they were not favored by the world, it seemed that at last a conflict in which the nation was involved was justifiable and reasonable.
Meri Loketh, the leader of Dylaron, declared an immediate draft, which became known as the infamous "thousand man draft". Overnight, 10% of Dylaron's population had been drafted for military service against the Jaegar Union; roughly 500,000 men, making the Dylaronian armed forces numbers swell to 800,000. Although the war was abrupt and awkward, the population of Dylaron for once was willing to fight for Loketh's cause. His ambition and personal gain had got in the way of his country's loyalty before, but it seemed this time that Dylaron's "freedoms" were in jeopardy.
Close skirmishes began. The 20th and 59th Combat Infantry Divisions with close air support and artillery invaded Dylaron from Regan, setting up postions on Graza Hill and capturing 100 miles of Dylaronian territory. Quick to counter, the Dylaronian 3rd Armored Division, 321st Glider Reserve and 9th Conscript setup defensive positions and pushed them back into their own territory. Poised to strike, Dylaronian general Aero Idalo, Supreme Commander, launched a large attack onto Regan territory with air raids and an amphibious assault from the west. The Jaegar Union was ready to defend, and concentrating their forces west meant an open door for the main force of the Dylaronian military. Reconassiance photographs and close air support showed that the enemy moved west, and the Dylaronian forces began to mass at the border.
On April 3rd, the invasion began. Pooring into important key cities, the two armies of Dylaron and Jaegar met in one of the largest land battles in Azethlei history. The start of the unification of Azethlei had begun.
