Colonel Barten walked down from the head observatory where Grand Admiral Schwartz and a horde of other high officers of the Thrashian Military sat. They were in one of the main scientific observatory/testing labs aboard the Epion Space Station. Barten had been given command of the operation that was currently underway.

He walked over to his command staff. "Have all test subjects entered the designated zone?" asked Barten. He stood strait behind the row of computers and consuls staring up at the large veiwing screen.

"1st MS Team entering the specified area now sir," said an operator. A camera switched over and six large humanoid figures filled the screen. Four of them were green painted MS-05 Zaku I's and the last two were the more recently made Leo Space Types. They were liked large space suited men with rocket packs on their backs. Each held a beam rifle and all other standard Mobile suit equipment.

Barten put on a communications headset. "Captain Kyiad, hows the mobile suit?"

One of the leading Leo's communications channels opened. A small screen with Captain Kyiad's face appeared. "Smooth as silk commander. What is our target?"

"You'll be facing the 1st Clone Brigade," said Barten. In answer to what that ment a Star Destroyer appeared into the large area, facing the six mobile suits. Its huge form was gigantic and fearsome compared to the 17-18 meter high mobile suits. "Which is currently crewing this Star Destroyer."

"Clones sir?" Kyiad's tanned face frowned.

"Yes Captain. We wish to test what our mobile force pilots in their suits can do against battle hardened clones. The 1st Brigade is the best. Your orders are to destroy the target. Start your mission captain," said Barten. Kyiad nodded, and the screen shut off. Another screen appeared and the bland face of Major 049 Alpha, commander of the clone brigade appeared.

"Combat testing is beginning?"

"Yes."

"1st Brigade out." the face disppeared. Barten watched as he switched the screen to tactical to veiw the entire battle.

Kyiad grumbled slightly. "Alright men listen up. We're going to destroy that SD coming at us. We'll make a spiral approach, then Micheals, you and Johnston and Rodiquez are to cut to the right, draw fire and fire point blank into its flank. Kines you are to cut up over the top, draw fire as well. Allen and I will cut below it and cause some damage to it's balls. Move out!"

"Sir!"

The Star Destroyer came straight at them, with no other real manuevers that it could do. The six mobile suits formed a moving circle that constantly shifted. Long range fire from the SD fired, but missed, the circle keeping every mobile suit from staying still for more than a second. Then just when they entered the range of the SDs smaller cannons, the circle burst.

Three Zakus accelerated and moved up and across to the left of the SD, firing into it with their beam rifles. The SDs shields were strong enough that they did little damage, however a majority of the ships guns concentrated on them. Point defence cannons massed on the three. One of the Zakus slowed and was his. It blew up in a tiny red-yellow ball.

"Rodiquez is down!"

A lone Zaku had accelerated to top speed strait up the length of the SD, over its top. It was too close and cannons could not compensate for its speed or range. It manuevered under the shields and fired its beam rifle into the ship, causing little damage, and went all the way up to the 'head' of the ship, over it and behind.

The two Leo Space type mobile suits cut to the right of the ship, their newer and better suits giving them top speeds and performance. They fired their beam rifles to the same affect as the others, no affect on the enemy shields.

They regrouped behind the SD.

"Sir, it's shields are too strong, and even when I got under them, my beam rifle didn't do shit," reported Kines.Kyiad listened as each reported quickly. They only had a few dozens seconds. The SD was already coming about.

"Alright then...Kines, you join Micheals group. Micheals, take all the Zakus and manuever into an over head firing position, I want you to just pour fire down onto it. I know its shields wont be affected much, but it will draw their fire and attention," said Kyiad.

"What about you and I sir?" asked Allen asked. His counter-part Leo was hovering close by.

"We're going to test out some other of our equipment. We're going strait below it and around to the rear."

"Yes sir!"

Once more the SD had come about and began firing its long range ordanance. The four Zakus shot forward, then with a quick thrust, shot upwards high above the SD. They poured on a rain of laser fire onto the length of the ship, their shots sometimes hitting targets that had no shielding. The entire ship started to rotate in a position to fire at this new threat from above, its cannons firing at a hightened pace. Another Zaku was hit by concentrated fire when it's pilot forgot to keep moving.

Meanwhile, the two Leo suits shot below the the plane of the SDs main firing capabilities and then forward. They didn't fire their weapons, causing only a few scattered cannons to fire at them as they passed quickly under the huge beast. When they got over they came up just behind the 'head'.

"Alright Allen, get your beam saber out."

"What!?"

"Do it!"

Kyiad pressed a button on his control consul. A small hatch on his suits left shoulder opened and a large cylinder apeared. He moved the Leo arm with practised ease and took hold of it. He ignited it, and a great dozen meter long red beam of laser appeared. Allen's Leo copied him.

"Now, lets test these babies!" Kyiad moved to the neck of the 'head' and with a quick movement sliced into it. The powerful energy and heat of the beam saber cut through and melted the metal. Allen went to the left side and began doing the same. Within moments they had cut off the entire 'head' of the SD. Kyiad pulled his beam rifle into his hand, pressed the muzzle deep into the ships neck, and fired a volley into it.

With a quick burst from their booster packs the Leo's launched away from ship. Its 'head' was sealing off the places that were exposed, but the under ship was too heavily damaged to take it. It blew up in a fantastic explosion, its radius engulfing the 'head' of the SD as well, causing it to explode as well.

The six mobile suits had managed to destroy a 1600 meter long ship in just under 27:00 minutes. Colonel Barten pressed the button on his stop watch and looked down at it. He smiled down at the results. The mobile suit team had lost two Zakus, but had succeeded in destroying the intended target, and with the majority of the MS team still alive, it was a successful operation. Barten leaned down next to the control panels. "All battle data has been recorded and saved correct?"

"Yes sir, just finishing now," said a tech. Barten nodded and straightened. He pressed his comms button.

"Excellent work Captain Kyiad," he said. A small screen with the captains face apeared. He had sweat all over him and his flight suit seemed to stick to him.

"Thank you sir, couldn't have done it without good men, and these good suits. Oh, and by the way, maybe we could test the flight suits next? Their kinda sticky when it gets hot," said Kyiad, his humor was well founded, and Barten laughed.

"I will look into it. Return to base, and ready for a debriefing of you and your men. After that I think maybe a little R&R is in order."

"Yes sir!" The four remaining mobile suits shot out of the area, heading to the moon base several hundred kilometers away. Barten turned and walked up the steps to where Grand Admiral Schwartz was sitting, the entire staff were talking about what they had just witnessed. Barten smiled inwardly. The fools, he thought. He went up to and saluted the Grand Admiral.

"I hope you enjoyed the test sir." Schwartz gave him a heavy look.

"I did...how much did each of those suits cost to build and construct?"

"Well both models are massed produced or capable of mass preduction, the Leo costs us about 800 thousand in credits...and the Zaku 200 thousand less than that," said Barten. He new for a fact that it cost up in the 20 or 30 of millions to construct the Star Destroyer that had just been annihilated.

"I wish we had had these when our home system had been attacked...they could have taken on and destroyed the entire Imperial Fleet by God!" said Schwartz. Several other officers nodded their agreement. Barten once again smiled inwardly in triump.

"Indeed sir. Well we have already arranged for several thousand of each model to be produced, and our scientists and engineers are already working on other models and new armaments, as well as other systems to improve the mobile suits. That and a school for training pilots has already been brought under way."

"Can clones be used?"

"They can, but our tests thus far have shown that a real human's reaction time and pure instinct as well as ingenuity and imagination are far more suited to mobile suit combat than that of a clones. We've already tested a clone vs a human mobile suit battle. The human won with ease," said Barten. He personally hated clones, they were unfeeling mindless drones, and he would never suffer for one or any number of them to pilot his mobile suits.

"Very well Colonel Barten. I will inform the Emperor of this amazing test you have conducted today. I look forward to reading your reports," said Grand Admiral Schwartz. He stood up from his seat. Barten saluted in sharp military fashion. The room emptied of all the officers and aides of the Grand Admiral. Barten turned away from the door they left by and went down into the control room.

"Good work men. Take a five minute break. We have more testing to do."

"Colonel Barten sir, when will we begin ground operations and testing?" asked Kyiad. He and his men sat around a metal table inside the debriefing room. Colonel Barten stood in front next to a screen which was silently playing out the battle that Kyiad and his men had just participated in.

Barten looked up from his notes. "Captain Noin and his company is currently undergoing Leo and Zaku combat testing in the southern hemisphere. We're trying to find out how our mobile suits adapt to jungle and mountain terrain."

"And we won't be taking part?" asked Kyiad, he waved over his shoulder where several dozen mobile suit pilots where chatting quietly and talking about the battle simulation that Kyiad and five others had been in.

Barten looked Kyiad in the eye. "No Captain Kyiad you will not. Grand Admiral Schwartz has seen fit that once a full military of mobile suits is established, that we should have branches. Ground and Space. You've been slotted as to be the first Space units."

Kyiad's eyes went wide. "Is that right? Oh well, I think its rather stupid though, since after all, it would be better that all pilots of mobile suits would be ready to fight in space and on planets...but then I'm not the man in charge," said Kyiad with a sly smile.

Barten nodded. "I will note that opinion Captain. I too see along those similar lines. See to your men captain." Kyiad saluted as Barten left the room.

The early hot sun rose over the horizon, the light shining down between the high canopy of the jungle. The high valley of the surrounding area was partially covered with massive clouds of steam and fog. Captain Noin took off his flgiht jacket, the heat already rising. He wiped his brow and set his gear behind his seat. He put his headset back on.

"Fuller, has your squad got into position?" he sent. His own RX-79 human type mobile suit was in a prone position just on the side of a hill. It was painted green to match the surroundings, and foilage had been put up and down it's length. Around Noin four other mobile suits were in hiding.

On the other side Lieutenant Fuller and his squad of mobile suits were to be in position as well. The comm was slightly fuzzy when the reply came.

"Yes sir. The jungle road is down below us. I have all my men ready."

In this operations test Noin had been charged to ambush a large and heavily armed convoy, in a radius of 200 miles. He and his men had spent three days finding the right road and then positions. And now they simply were waiting. They raised their Minovsky particle put-out so that it would scramble any sensory equipment that might be searching the area.

"Good, according to our breifing the convoy should be here in...4 minutes. Fire on my command only," said Noin.

"Yes sir, Fuller out."

Just over the lip of the valley moments later came a small cloud of dust. The dirt road that the convoy was expected to take, was dry from a two day lack of rain. But it was slowly starting to drizzle at that moment.

To tanks came over the rise. They stopped just at the valley's tip. It was the scouts of the convoy. "All positions hold until my command." Seeming satisfied the two tanks rumbled down, their large guns swiveling left and right, checking for signs of movement.

Several dozen meters behind the tanks rumbled four more tanks, followed by a line of canvas covered trucks. Behind this line came several of the Clone armies walkers, less than 10 meters tall, came up from the rear.

Noin's high powered beam sniper locked onto the lead tank of the convoy. He brought down the targetting device and looked into it. The tank jumped into view, marked with cross hairs.

He waited until the last truck and tank came over the edge of the valley lip and had travelled down it, then he fired.

The red beam lanced out from the side of the valley and hit the tank. The tank blew up in a great ball of red flame. The tank behind it swirved off the side of the road. The entire convoy stopped, then suddenly the machine guns of the mobile suits ripped into them. Most of the lead tanks were wipped out in the first five minutes.

The clone walkers got into the forest. Several of Fuller squad rose from their positions and had their suits stand up. Several dozen clone troopers armed with anti-armor rockets fired at the exposed mobile suits. The closests was hit hard, its armor being rent in several places. It fell back and lay still, inoperable. The second one brought it's shield up and deflected the majority of the rockets, then rained fire down on the troopers.

Noin's own squad opened fire with their rockets. Several of the walkers went down in a blaze. Another two found one of Noin's hidden men and fired their own rockets. They smashed into the head of the mobile suit and blew it away. The pilot hit the ejection button, the chest of the mobile suit opened and the pilot launched out to safety.

Fuller launched another attacked once more. One of his men jumped down using its rocket boosters to land in the rear of the convoy. It brought out its beam saber and destroyed the last of the walkers.

The entire road was turned into a charnel house as the rest of the mobile suits came down from their positions and fired into the remnants of the convoy.

Noin wiped his brow once again. "Mission complete. Come'on boys, lets report back to base."

Thus far testing had been a success. Even when matched against an Imperial Star Destroyer the Mobile Suits had proven the better match. But Barten had to consider the politics involved with his research and pet project.

Many of the older naval and army officers did not like to see such change in the armed forces. They saw Colonel Barten's creations as a the harbringer of the end of the real old style Imperial Fleet. No more of the magnificant Star Destroyers or other ships. It would see the end of the Clone Armies. It was something that many opposed.

But besides all this opposition, Colonel Barten had the backing of the Seele Intelligence Organization, the project and its research would continue.
