Just in time for Christmas, the Politburo today has issued a statement concerning Christmas and other religious hilidays, citing a religious revival of sorts and the introduction of alien faiths.

"Being that the Workers State is obligated to respect religious liberty, all major religious holidays such as Christmas are to be considered legal holidays. All employers and government institutions are to observe these holidays, or face a fine of NDD$10,000. Shops may open, but with limited hours.

The Workers State will pay special attention to, on December 25th on the People's Standard Calendar (Gregorian), Christmas. This is due to the widespread and entrenched nature of the holiday, both in social and economic life, in parts of the Workers State recently incorporated into it.

Also, for non-Christians and those who wish to abstain, the previous unofficial holidays of Christmahannukawnzakah and Festivus have been combined into a new holiday to be observed on the same day, the National People's Day of Joy.

Both holidays will, and shall be from now on, commemorated with miltary and civil parades and festivities."

All over the Workers State, reports of record sales and increased public morale have been reported, as parishoners and merchants alike have praised the new edict. A few Conservative Arm members, and traditional Marxists, plus members of the Patriotic Church, have called the edict "an example of reactionary pandering," but many seem to be ignoring their pleas to boycott Christmas.
