January 2006: Opium was to be fully eradicated, however this goal was not met. Laos government officials set a new opium eradication date for January 2011.
March 2006: President Khamtai Siphandon dies a natural death. PM Boungnang Vorachith becomes the new president.
May 2006: The Lao PDR welcomes many Indonisian refugees, after their nation's failure to rebuild after the early 2005 tsunami.
June 2006: A new constitution is adopted by the nation. It allows for more military power, and opens the nation up more to the international world.
July 2006: President Boungnang Vorachith dies a natural death. Party is not sure who to name as the new president.
August 2006: Rioting against government begins. Opium warlord from Thailand takes over nation.
October 2006: The new government chooses Prince Sauryavong Savang as their president. Prince Sauryavong Savang is brought back from exile.

May 2007: Laos complains about British involvement in Israel.
June 2007: Followers of Islam becomes higher than Buddhists.
October 2007: Islam is named official religion of Lao PDR.
December 2007: Arabic is named 3rd official language of Laos.

January 2008: Laos ends all diplomatic ties with the UK.
March 2008: Thousands die in the capital after a deadly earthquake.
December 2008: Prince Sauryavong Savang dies a natural death.

May 2009: Laos ends all diplomatic ties to France.
July 2009: French is removed from the official language list.
August 2009: New constitution is proposed, allowing Islamic law to create the rules.
November 2009: A Muslim Indonisian refugee is named the new president.
December 2009: An alliance is proposed with Iran.
