One of the few TIE Fighter types with Hyperdrive, The TIE Defender is an extremely high-performance starfighter. Unlike standard TIE craft, the TIE Defender possesses a Novaldex shield generator and a hyperdrive. Like its predecessor, the TIE fighter, the TIE Interceptor carries no shielding but has superb acceleration and maneuverability. Improved avionics are implemented and the radiator panels has a cut-out notch to improve lateral visibility. The original production variant has four laser cannons, one mounted on each wingtip, though some have hypothesized the existence of a version with ten cannons, including an additional cannon mounted at the end of each wingtip and two more in the empty command pod hardpoints, much like the original TIE fighter.

The TIE Torpedo Bomber is a modified version of the TIE Bomber, the TIE/tb is designed exclusively to carry a heavy load of torpedoes capable of handing out significant levels of damage to even capital ships. The TIE/tb is easily recognized by its extremely odd single solar panel placement which acts as an aerofoil to keep the fighters maneuverability excellent even within an atmosphere. The double-hull has been replaced with a single pilot's pod, and mounted above this is a large solar panel/torpedo bay.

The I-7 Howlrunner is a short range attack starfighter. The Howlrunner is constructed around an aerodynamic fixed-wing structure.
