Pale Rider Arms has noted the rate of combat disabilities that prevent continued service with some alarm. A severed limb will remove a soldier from combat permanently, and often remove him from much of the labor pool as well. With the recent rise of high-calibre weapons on the market, Pale Rider Arms set out to solve this growing problem once and for all. The result of their research is their new line of combat Augmetics.
Augmetics are replacement limbs, not merely made to add a semblance of normality to a person's life, but to improve it to a point beyond that of a un-augmented human being. Such augmentations will range from extra joints to extendible limbs, to interchangable hands or feet. Additional options are also available for combat personnel, from weapon mounts to multi-tools to locator beacons.
The limb itself is a marvel of modern engineering, dublicating the musculature and skeletal structure of a human limb precisely. Hands and feet possess a full range of movement, often beyond that of an un-augmented subject. The surface of the limb is dotted with sensors, which, when connected to the nerve endings in the patient's stump, allow complete sensation in the replacement organs, as well as full conscious control over the augmetic's movements.
This also allows for a remarkable range of systems, including the world's first true Smartgun, a weapon incapable of being fired on accident by the weilder. The weapon does not possess a trigger, but is instead plugged directly into an augmetic arm. In the same manner that one controls his own body, the operator controls the rate of fire, the safety, even the firing of the weapon itself, all without any visible effort on the operator's part. The Otagian government is considering the implantation of augmetics in all willing subjects of the Otagian Army, a costly measure but one that could reduce accidental deaths and improve efficiency a hundred fold.
