Awakened Darkness (INTRO, FT)

The Time-Splitters

Cold. So cold.
We cannot feel it.
We cannot face it.
We cannot touch it.
Darkness.
Not but darkness.
We cannot see past it.
We cannot gaze through it.
We are alone.
We are so cold.
So cold.

But we are not without hope.
We are sustained by the warmth we sense approaching.
We will be whole again.
We will live again.

We shall return.

It was so small, so insignificant. A dry shell of a keel only thirty eight meters in length, thirty-eight meters wide, eleven meters tall. Across its jet-black frame made of a strange, alien metal, were thousands and thousands of runes. Each one was gloriously carved into the metallic hull, with precision and beauty that rivaled the greatest of artisans. Pictures of men-like creatures, of animals, of wars won, of wars lost. It was quite stunning to all that beheld it. It must have been done with a powerful tool, for the material itself was far too tough for normal cutters to penetrate. Indeed, radio, infrared, psionic, and all matter of powerful scans could not look through this peculiar container. The dark surface was covered with a thin film of water and organic material, long-since frozen in the vacuum of space. Still, there was something that stirred within. A single, pinging shout to the universe. A single spark of life.

It was a signal, one which used simple radio “pings” to transmit a steady, pulsing current.

This thing, this cannister, was calling out. It was hoping that something would find it and bring it aboard.

And God have mercy on whomever opened it.

OOC: Heya’ll. I’m an old player here who left his long-dead civilization a year or so ago. I could have brought it back, but I decided that this would be a much better race to use. So, if you’re going to join, know this:
1) You WILL loose at least one ship and all of its crew. Please respond with multiple ships and multiple crews.
2) Whichever ship “takes in” the craft should be large, but not too large. IE: I would ideally like to have a ship 800 meters to 1.5 km in length. However, if you have a larger one, that is fine too. Just remember, whichever craft takes up the device WILL be lost.
3) I do not suggest you bring your best weapons/technology to this RP. My race works kind of like the Beast from Cataclysm. It consumes other ships, absorbs their technology, then uses them for their own. So, you know, don’t bring your mondo-awesome-goober-cannon unless you want to part with it.
4) Despite what my name implies, my race is barely based on the Timespitters. Honestly, I just loved how the berserker splitters looked like in TS3, and I designed the “foot soldiers” of my race to act like them. That’s it. There are no other connections to Timesplitters.
5) More will come about the complex society, technology, and purpose of this race. This beginning isn’t much to work with, I know, but just bear with me. There will be a lot of action starting off. Lots of action.

"Seventeen lightyears to source, Commodore, the boats right near it." Commodore Felkenjar looked at the screen. The source of the alien signal was very small. Very small, and yet, it somehow gave off an impression of...oldness, of depth, in a way.

"Heave it in, and bring it back. Land it in the bay of the Fulnkep, and get marines there and enough bombs to destroy whole hangar. And another load in the main reactor. I don't trust the ancients. They invariably seem to come up with ancient evil races of exterminators to do the tasks of a common factory robot, and this might be one of them."

"Yes, sir."

The boat, hanging nose on to the anomaly, swung around, opened its bay door, and reversed, taking the alien object into its gut, then started for the squadron again.

Half an hour later, Felkenjar surveyed the marines in the docking bay of the light cruiser, Fulnkep, through a cieling camara. He spoke a command into his mike.

"Okay. Open it."
