FPD leadership hopefuls 'stymied' as convention day moved

Leadership candidates for the majority Federation of Progressive Democrats were surprised Saturday morning to learn that the date for the leadership convention in which one of them will ascend to the position of party leader and thusly, most probably the next prime minister, has been moved up several days.

The announcement came from party headquarters in Mandragora around 4.30am CPDT. Reports suggested the party higher-ups had been debating such a move throughout the night and had come to an agreement to move up the date so as to give the winner more time to campaign before the 30th January 2006 federal general election.

Many prominent political figures are vying for the party's top job, including Sambuca premerati Constantino Sorantanali, who announced his candidacy earlier in the week. Sorantanali is widely seen as the most likely victor in the leadership contest, while fellow premerati (of Ciocanto) Mariana Cosima Vincenza is expected to make it through to a final ballot. Potenza mayor Castel Devante and Fentomeria Progressive Democrats senior policy advisor Alberto Quinistate are also vying for the job.

The leadership convention was originally scheduled to take place 3rd January to replace outgoing prime minister Dr. Timotaio Ell, but it will now take place on Wednesday, 28th December. However, the winner will not be sworn in as leader until 4th January, almost one week later.

Date For Selection Of Candidate Moved Up As Ell's Successor To Be Selected Soon

Mandragora, Bercanto, Pacitalia - It is a warm night, here in the lush and beautiful home of Timothy Ell of Pacitalia. For years, the Federation of Progressive Democrats has ruled Pacitalia, the people, and the wealth of this land of wonder. For years have they faced up opposing parties and faced them down, with their leader, Dr. Timothy Ell at their head. But, with Ell's surprising resignation and the subsequent party chaos, what will happen next is in doubt.

Timotaio Fortanescu Amacano Jared Ell is, without any objection, one of the most recognizable and forceful presences in international politics. First arriving on the Pacitalian political scene at the tender age of 25, he became the MPP of his home constiuency of Bercanto. He then, after a tenure which was not only very successful, but also very useful in his political career, he was nominated to lead the Capitalist Party in the elections. As they say, the rest is history.

Dr. Ell is not only one of the most recognizable international figures, but he is and was also one of the most active ones. He has spoken out on many international issues, and is a Duke in Hamptonshire and a Knight in Azazia. Rumors of his being presented the Imperial Yaforite Award Of Humanitarian Excellence (known as the "IYAHE" for short, or I...yah...heee!) continue to abound, despite evidence to the contrary. But with his surprising resignation, just over a month ago, the question of who would, or even could, follow him as FDP Candidate, and president, is one which needs to be answered.

"Timothy Ell, is, in my opinion, unequallable." says Wiliat Jemered Horistony, Professor of Social Sciences at the University of Chelmar. "He will still be in the spotlight, despite his resignation. I would say that [Sambuca premerati] Constantino Sorantanali would be the best bet, being known as 'Ell's sucessor'. However, most likely, Timothy Ell will find it difficult to stay away from politics."

If indeed Sorantanali does become the next Pacitalian president, good days may be ahead for Yafo-Pacitalian relations. Soantalani's friendship with Yaforite Ambassador to Pacitalia Jyorin Kiamelar is well known and aknowledged, as well as his supposed love of Yaforite artwork. With a visit to Yafor 2 by either Ell or Sorantalani possibly on the list, this may be a good time for both nations to become closer than they are.
