FPD leadership hopefuls 'stymied' as convention day moved
Alberto Canazzari in MANDRAGORA
Leadership candidates for the majority Federation of Progressive Democrats were surprised Saturday morning to learn that the date for the leadership convention in which one of them will ascend to the position of party leader and thusly, most probably the next prime minister, has been moved up several days.
The announcement came from party headquarters in Mandragora around 4.30am CPDT. Reports suggested the party higher-ups had been debating such a move throughout the night and had come to an agreement to move up the date so as to give the winner more time to campaign before the 30th January 2006 federal general election.
Many prominent political figures are vying for the party's top job, including Sambuca premerati Constantino Sorantanali, who announced his candidacy earlier in the week. Sorantanali is widely seen as the most likely victor in the leadership contest, while fellow premerati (of Ciocanto) Mariana Cosima Vincenza is expected to make it through to a final ballot. Potenza mayor Castel Devante and Fentomeria Progressive Democrats senior policy advisor Alberto Quinistate are also vying for the job.
The leadership convention was originally scheduled to take place 3rd January to replace outgoing prime minister Dr. Timotaio Ell, but it will now take place on Wednesday, 28th December. However, the winner will not be sworn in as leader until 4th January, almost one week later.
